    jfergus,

Yes, December is an excellent time to get a car for a good price. There's no reason that you shouldn't be able to wait for end-of-month, end-of-quarter, end-of-year pricing. Your dealer and leasing company would probably be thrilled if you made a deal to continue your lease for a couple more months at the same rate.

I paid 19200 OTD for 06 AT Accord LX.

I have just been offered an '05 Accord LX SE Coupe for $17600. Do you guys think I can get a better deal? I am in NJ and would be greatful if you guys can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks

    Hi,

Could you kindly tell me where you get such good deal. Thanks !!
  • jfergusjfergus Member Posts: 30
Actually Blane, I have no choice. :( Mine is a company car on a fixed, non-extendable lease. Others have already asked, and have been denied an extension because there is a new lease program now. The lease payments are automatically payroll deducted, so the company has control on the payment end of things.

Thank you for the info. I guess I will be looking around 24800-25000 before TTL. All I have to do now is save some money for down payment.

I am happy to hear that dealers are trying to get rid of the stock before end of year, not only at the end of model year.

Hi Everyone - HELP! Poor negotiator here in Ohio looking to get a good deal.
I'm am going to purchase a 2005 EX V-6 Sedan w/ XM Radio Accord (Nighthawk Black Pearl) this week and am starting with internet quotes. First offer was unimpressive $23,673.32 + tax + $125.25 doc.& title fee. I'm working from an invoice price of $24,158 so this offer is not even $500 under invoice. After reading the boards here I think I should be hearing prices at least $1500 under invoice. Am I off base? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
  • shaolingolfershaolingolfer Member Posts: 28
Which Honda dealer in DFW is easier to deal with, has good price and a good internet sale department? Please recommend.
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
No leather, no Nav. I think you could do a little better personally. The thing is there are not as many 2005 models left to choose from. I would probably make a substantially lower offer and see what they do. You and they know that the 2006s are entering the market. Also, I think some people exaggerate about their savings on these boards and what's good to one may not be good to another.
  • ohiogirlygirlohiogirlygirl Member Posts: 4
Thanks. one clarification:I do want leather interior - but no Nav. system. Your continued opinions are appreciated. I'll share my end results.
  • tmarietmarie Member Posts: 3
I believe dealer holdbacks for the 2005 Accord are 3% of MSRP. I purchased a 2005 Honda Accord Ex V-6 w/XM Radio (no nav) on the last day of March of this year for 23,300 +TTL. With the alarm and TTL, I walked out the door right around 25,000. So, I would guess that you should be able to get it for at least $800 under invoice, if not more, since it is the end of the model year.

I suggest to get quotes on the internet from the fleet sales manager and then call the best ones and play them against each other...i.e. "Dealer A" is about 200 less than you, can you beat that price? "Dealer B" is around 23,000, if you can beat that I will be there this afternoon to sign the paperwork. Then have them email you the price. Take the email to the dealership and do the paperwork. If they can't honor the price they gave you initially, they probably aren't reputable enough to deal with, just leave and go to the dealership with the next best offer.

I bought my car in Southern California and the dealership was great...still are. Very customer service oriented and super nice. Good Luck!

Did you try Bankston Honda in Lewisville? I just bought at HAH below invoice. Internet sales Dept. made it an easy- nearly painless purchase.

Hey, we got quotes from local dealers (we are in Northern CA) last week. The lowest quote for 2005 Accord LX Sedan(Automatic) is $17760 plus TTL. Our target price is $18000 OTD but it seems a little bit tough to reach. I read posts here saying they only paid 17,150 for automatic and another guy paid only 16,500 for stick two months ago. Since new 06 Accord is out, shouldn't it be easier to bargian down on 05?

Does anybody know what is the bottom line on LX Sedan in Sac area? Anybody bought LX recently? Share and Help please!

I am interested in the 2006 LX SE but manual transmission. You seemed to have gotten a good deal. Could you let me know where I should request a quote. Also, could you share what your car included as option if any. Many thanks.

    Hi,

I just closed on a purchase today for the Graphite Pearl color 2005 EX-L V-6 and I paid the following and paid $22,600 for the car not including the destination fee of $550.

However, there was the same exact model as yours (in black) available at another dealership for $22,200 - unfortunately, they didn't have the Graphite Pearl available, so I paid $400 more for the exact color I wanted.

If your offer @ $23,673 does not include destination then you are about 1K - 1.5K off, I believe. There were other fees, which are bascially the same as the ones you mentioned.

I live in Westchester, an affluent suburb of New York City - not exactly a place to get amazing deals, so I think you could get something similar to me.

    Hello,
I paid 19200 for Accord Lx 4 door Automatic Trans. Options included all in the base LX, ABS, Power windows, am/FM/CD with 6 speakers, cruise control - the total MSRP on this vehicle was 21375.00 including dest and handling. I shopped around dealers in the area contacting them via the internet and originally wanted an 05 which best price I could find was 18900 - for 300 more i got the 06 which has more horsepower, better warranty, nice looking tail lights (led with 1 on creast of trunk - unlike standard 2 on 05 model). All in all I think the extra 300 was well worth it.

I did initially try Bankston Honda. My bf bought his Honda from them, and was pleased with their service.

I was given a decent quote on a 2005 LX: $18,300 or so about 2 weeks ago. With everyone posting they were buying at $17,500 or so, I asked them for a more aggressive price. About two days later, I got an e-mail from a General Manager saying that they would be willing to make me a "deal that they generally would never consider."

So I flew to Dallas (I'm currently living in Arkansas) and went to Bankston. I specifically asked for the internet manager that had sent me the e-mail. When I was told that he was not available, I asked for another internet manager by name, then for the GM who sent me the e-mail--all not available. The GM I was finally able to talk to just passed me to a salesguy who happened to be on the floor.

The salesguy left me, then returned with a piece of paper stating $19,600. I told him about the e-mails, but he refused to even look at the copy I had printed out. He started going into a song and dance about why he couldn't come down on the price. I waited until he was finished, thanked him, smiled, shook his hand, and left.

But I have e-mailed Bankston several times since then to ask about their remaining 2005s, and their 2006 models, and I have gotten no response. Maybe I've been blacklisted? I do feel that I was treated poorly at Bankston. Sorry for the long post.
  • haefrhaefr Member Posts: 600
You weren't only treated poorly - you were played. (At least in Vegas, you get complementary drinks.) At some point someone at Bankston figured out that you traveled a long way and the dealership bet you wouldn't leave empty-handed. Congratulations for not caving in. (As I suspect you did, I would've also maintained a calm demeanor, but I wouldn't have shaken the salesguy's hand after his obviously disrespectful treatment and I certainly wouldn't have communicated any further with the jerks. Consider the entire episode a precious learning experience.)

By the way, being "blacklisted" by a car dealership carries about as much stigma as a raucious belch in the wilderness.
  • mitchfloridamitchflorida Member Posts: 420
Some dealerships will give bogus "low-ball" price quotes to get you into the dealership, then try to switch you to another car. They never had any intention of selling you that car at that price, but use the phony price to prevent you from buying elswhere. It is all part of the game . .
  • mitchfloridamitchflorida Member Posts: 420
I would want at least $1200 under invoice to buy a 2005. Otherwise just buy a 2006 at invoice .. it is a better value in the long run.
  • shaolingolfershaolingolfer Member Posts: 28
So far I have not found a Dealer (my own experience) in DFW area with a decent Internet Sale Department. They won't give you a quote at all, they always want you to come in, call them, ask you bogus question in the email to induce you to call them ro go in to talk to them. They just treat it as a "SALE LEAD" and they don't really care they lose that lead or not.
  • ohiogirlygirlohiogirlygirl Member Posts: 4
Thanks! The 23,673 quote did include the destination fee ... but it stills looks like I can do much better. did the $22,200 on the care you saw include the destination fee?

I had a friend who used carbargains.com to find them the best deal on the Acura TL. They highly recommended them to me. Anyone use or know about carbargains? I went to their website and the it sounds very appealing to me.
  • minivanmama1minivanmama1 Member Posts: 28
Try Bankston Honda in Lewisville. I had a fantastic experience with a recent purchase of a 2005 HAH with Navi.
  • ubrnoodleubrnoodle Member Posts: 2
The $22,200 didn't include the destination fee of $515. So to be perfectly comparable, my offer was at $22,715. So you have some room to negotiate down the price.
  • ygraceygrace Member Posts: 8
I have found Huggins to be a good dealership if you're looking for a fair, no-haggle price. They were my lowest price in my first round of e-mails.

McDavid Honda of Frisco was willing to work with me and beat Huggins price to win my business.

I found Bankston to be wonderful to work with over the internet, but I had a terrible experience with them once I went to the dealership. If you go to Bankston, I would recommend scheduling an actual appointment with the internet salesperson to make sure he will be there.
  • ygraceygrace Member Posts: 8
I would also like to mention Freeman Honda. They were prompt and polite in their replies. They were willing to negotiate, and even after I declined, they kept their lowest offer open and notified me when the car with the exact specs I wanted became available on their lot.
  • greens1greens1 Member Posts: 2
Go to openroadhonda.com at Edison, New Jersey, get a online quote, print it out and bring it to dealship. You can have 2005 Honda Accord LX auto for about 17100+destination.
  • dglozmandglozman Member Posts: 178
    javner,

Could you give more details on the lease you got. I assume its 4cyl 2005 Accord LX. How much you paid out of pocket upfront and what are the lease payments per month?
  • memphisguymemphisguy Member Posts: 13
Memphis is cheap... paid $17.8 OTD for an 05 LX AT (no options).

That's total for everything... tags, destination, fees, etc. One check for $17.8k. Wolfchase Honda, Bartlett TN. No trade involved.

    That's a great price!
  • mlrtexasmlrtexas Member Posts: 8
I don't think you have been blacklisted. I think Bankston is probably not sending quotes outside of Dallas area right now. After reading the post on the low price here, I also sent emails. After 3 tries I never heard back.

That is bogus that they would not back-up their quoted price even with documentation. I am guessing they had a lot of low price backlash because of that one post.

Russell and Smith in Houston is advertising $18,100 for the same vehicle with an additional $100 discount voucher off their website. EX-V6 is on par at 23,500.

I am at the verge of buying a new Honda Accord. I tried Edmunds.com to get dealer quotes. Unfortunately majority of dealers in NY/NJ area refuse to provide internet/phone quotes. They keep emailing you promotional material and want you to come to the dealership. Some are really bad even on phone. My worst experiences were with the following dealers (stay away from these).

 Route 22 Honda, Hillside, NJ, they had very unprofessional sales persons answering the phone, you wonder if they even do any business!

 Paragon The House Of Honda, Woodside, NY (after agreeing to beat a competing deal, they reported they did not have any cars for the particular style)!

I am buying a 05 Honda Accord LX, 4d/4cyl/AT. One New York City dealership is quoting $17,650 (with destination) and another $17,750 (with destination). Is it possible to get a better "legitimate" quote than $17,650? Any pointers? Thanks much for your responses on this forum.
  • s2000hks2000hk Member Posts: 3
I agree with "hondalx05", Rt 22 honda is horrible. The mgmt are have no respect to customers and they use sales tactics from the 1990s. I have no idea how they are still in business. They should understand that consumers now days are much more informed and educated.

Anyway, I ended up driving 5 miles south to Planet Honda. I got a great deal on a 05 Accord EX V6 for 22,800 without much haggling. (<15mins) They only thing is Planet Honda asks customers to give tips to sales people since they claim that that sales people do not work under commission. It's hard to believe. Anyone know is this a common practice?

    Thanks.

"Planet Honda asks customers to give tips to sales people since they claim that that sales people do not work under commission. It's hard to believe. Anyone know is this a common practice?"

Sounds like a crock to me - was the new car sales manager actually able to keep a straight face during that spiel? (and I thought I'd heard just about everything - truly, the wonders of earthly life are limitless!) I can't imagine someone joining any car dealership's sales team and agreeing to forego his/her rightful sales commissions on the premise that management would encourage customers to "tip" their saleperson. I hope you didn't fall for it. Just what percentage of the purchase price were you asked to cough up as the "tip"? (The only tip I'd offer a car salesman would be to plant his corn early next spring.)
  • s2000hks2000hk Member Posts: 3
I ended up paying $75 which is 0.3% of the deal. I saw in the back alley that the fiance mgmr split the money with the sales. I decided to give b/c it saved me part of those ridicious doc fees.

Haha... I was actually going to blow them off about the tip part. But, it was late and the guy was pretty nice.
  • pptigerpptiger Member Posts: 4
Where is $100 discount voucher on their website? I just got an email from them, offering the LX AT at 18,239 + TTL. Thanks.
  • biker4biker4 Member Posts: 746
Can tipping some guy on the side to lower the price be far behind?

What is this - some commie economy?

But back to pricing. It seems to me that while there's great push to get the leftover 05s out the door, the great real price increase on the 06s have pulled some of the 05 prices up as well.

I went to the dealer from which I bought my LX from 6 years ago and couldn't believe they stooped to the "market adjustment" price increase scheme of other area dealers.
On all 06 Accord and Civics they added a $1,995 market adjustment and to make it worse added: $199 for mudguards, $100 for wheel locks and even charged $15 for the state inspection (all of which are normally free at this dealer).
So of course a slightly discounted 05 looks like a great bargain compared to the ridiculous 06 prices but I have a feeling the great deals of a couple of months ago are gone.

Biker, who can't believe anyone would pay $2200+ over sticker for any car, much less a Civic/Accord.
  • hondalx05hondalx05 Member Posts: 3
Okay, so after doing my homework on this forum, and getting muttiple competing offers, I went to Bayridge Honda in Brooklyn, NY. The sales agent brought the sales manager to deal with me, and after some back-and-forth, they offered a Honda Accord, LX, 4dr/4-cyl/AT for $17,756 (with destination). They offered only one color (not my top choice), wanted me to put a deposit on the car, without having shown the actual vehicle. I declined to do so and asked to see the exact car. They asked me to come in next morning. Next morning, they show me the car, let me test drive it, etc. Next, the sales agent prerapres all the paperwork, meanwhile I order my new insurance. Now a new sales manager appears with the sales agent informing me that the dealership is unable to honor $17,756, that it is too good a deal that his daughter could not get couple of weeks ago. Essentially, at this point the guy wanted me to shell out an additioal $250. At which point I collected all my documents from them and walked out of the dealership.

Beware of these dealers who suck you in spending 4 to 5 hours into a deal and then back out. First thing, have them committ to a price in writing with manager's signature. This was my first trip to a dealership ever so I learnt a lesson for my next trip to a dealership

But beware of this bunch of morons, disrepectful, and shady sales personnel at Bayridge Honda.

Thanks to all forum posters. Reading the posts gave me what I needed for this deal last week.

Herb Chambers, Seekonk, MA quoted me over the phone $16,850 in Desert Mist Metallic (my choice of colors) 2005 LX w/M. I went in the next day and closed the deal in less than 30 minutes after viewing the car (47 miles on it). Out the door a couple days later for a few dollars less than $18,000 (5% tax, $200 doc fees, $29 inspection).

One thing I learned...if you are thinking about changing what you were quoted over the phone...you are right back to just dropping into the showroom. When I asked how much more for an automatic the sales manager mentioned $1500. That's even though they had dozens in stock.

So decide exactly what you want when you make the call and get quoted for a specific car and specific deal.

    Thanks again...Bob M.

Paying 2k more than stick for a "regular" car is just not right. We are not talking about buying a limited edition SL600. It is just an accord or civic. Plus, majority of the buyers are average joes... we work hard for the money. $199 for mud flaps are just crazy. I remember paying MSRP for the 02 RSX when it came out the first day. Two weeks later when I went back to the dealer to pick up the plates, the dealer are adding $1500 as marketing adjustment for all the other RSXs. I felt bad for the new buyers...

purchased 05 accord lx/4dr/at for 17,650 + destination. add dealer processing $100, tags $195, and 5% md sales tax. total OTD $19,399. cash sale. got the black color i wanted. price included 3 other items:
    1. free lifetime oil changes
    2. appearance package (already on the car) dealer did not want to remove.
    3. trunk tray (dealer didn't discover until opening the trunk)

to me item 1 has value because i'll keep the car 10 years. items 2 and 3 are on the honda site at $595 and $110 respectively but it's cosmetic and high margin so wasn't a factor.

    Buying experience in DC area:
shopped 14 dealers hard via internet and phone during one week process. submitted a written counteroffer with 3 final dealers before cross shopping the final deal and buying from Ourisman. if you don't care about color, maybe you can get the car for less, but i don't believe much less.

about the dreaded trip to the dealership. forty years experience of buying cars and my experience at Ourisman was the best. zero pressure, professional and courteous staff, quick process. i can definitely recommend Ourisman.

    hope this information helps.

I needed to buy my wife a dependable car so I decided to get her a new 05 Accord, anyways after reading some of these post and what people are claiming they paid for theirs is really making me feel like I got taking for a ride, I sent faxes to all the Honda dealers with in 600 miles and I received an offer for a new 05 Accord-EX Coupe V-6 Automatic and agreed to a price of $23,750 which is around $600.00 under invoice, with taxes I'm paying $25,303.00 out the door, this dealer charges no dealer fees.

Even if you believe everything ( I do, doesn't everyone?), you aren't always going to be able to match the lowest price you see here.. If it was that easy, it wouldn't be the lowest price...

I think your price looks great... I think if you search this forum, you won't find many lower for that model...
