I wanted to purchase a few items for my new 05 CRV SE and was wondering if someone could recomend which website is the most reliable and has the best customer service, I'm still a little leary on buying things on-line. Some of the ones I was considering was:

My personal favorite is http://www.fairhondapartsforyou.com I liked them so much that I even bought my previous car from them. If you don't see a part on their website, call the number ask for John and he will help you find what you want or need. Fair Honda is a brick and mortar dealership with an internet department selling parts at a discount. They are in Danbury, CT and if you are local, you can just stop by and buy the parts in person and get the same discount (just have to make sure you ask for John and tell him you are an internet customer) You can tell him Dave sent you and he may give you a better discount.

If you are on the west coast, the site sponsor HandA is probably a better choice. It took them a week to ship something to the east coast, but I didn't know better, and it wasn't their fault they are on the west coast. I see you listed HandA in your list.

If you are in the midwest, http://www.hondacuraworld.com is probably better, it is another Brick and mortar Honda dealership located in Buffalo, NY area.

I have a new trunk rack for my car to carry my bicycles. and am thinking about bying a crv. It would normaly fit on a hatch style back if there wasn't a tire in the way. Should i get a new mount? or can i remove the rear tire and keep it inside the crv? the swing gate for the tire might have to be removed also.

I recently purchased a 2005 CRV. I would like to remove the center folding tray and add an aftermarket console. Is it difficult to remove the factory folding tray? How is it done?

I would also like to access the area behind the lower part of the dash to run some wires for my portable XM radio reciever. What is the trick to getting the lower dash off as well as the cover that joins the floor and surrounds the lower storage bin in the middle of the of the dash? I found the two screws on either side of the center housing but I am not sure how to proceed from there to remove this cover and I cant find any more fasteners.

You can go to the site sponsor and look at the subwoofer installation instructions or XM radio installation instructions on how to remove the head unit. AS far as I know you no longer need to remove the center console to get to the radio. That was Gen 1 CR-V problem, to get to the radio you had to tear the whole dash apart.

As to the tray removal, look at it. There should be bolts holding it to the floor.

I have not owned a CR-V, but I am looking to purchase one 2-3 years old. From looking at VIN numbers, it appears that they were assembled in Japan until the '01 year model, then moved to England for '02 & '03, then back to Japan for '04. Is this correct??

Not sure when they started in England, but they have been made in both locations ever since..

S = Swindon (England)
J = Japan

You'll find units from both factories... Mine is an '02, and was made in Japan.

You will find that a used, 2-3 year old CR-V is only a couple thousand dollars less than brand spanking new one after some negotiations. And if you are buying in the next month or so, you can get a great deal on brand new Honda. Ask you shall receive.

All of Gen 1 CR-V's were made in Japan. Gen 2, 2002 were made in Japan and UK, but US got Japan made ones only. Later in the 2002-2003 Honda started shipping UK made CR-V's to the East coast, while supplying the west coast with Japan made ones. Manual EX's are most exclusivley Japan made ones as well as SE's, regardless of the coast. Sometimes you can find a Japan made CR-V on the east coast with auto, and vise versa. IF you are that picky, like KYDFX said, look at the VIN number. If it starts with J then it is Japan made, starts with an S- UK made.

I am a newbie to do-it-yourself accessory installation, so I apologize ahead of time for what is probably a very simple set of questions.

I recently purchased door edge guards for my 2005 CR-V, and am uncertain about a couple steps noted in the installation guide (a copy of which can be obtained at link title). Step 4 says to "...trim the seam sealant from mark to mark," which is followed by Step 5, which says to "apply touch-up paint to the door, and let it dry."

So... what does this mean? Am I actually supposed to cut the paint off the inside edge of the doors with the "seam sealant cutting tool" before installing the door edge guards? If so, where do I apply the touch-up paint? To the entire area where I've just cut the paint off? This doesn't make sense to me, and I'm more than a bit uncertain to try it without getting some input first.

I'd appreciate any assistance / recommendations from someone who has done this before. Thanks!

I installed the Honda Door Edge Guards on my '99 EX. The instructions were about the same concerning trimming and touch up paint. I didn't do it, and skipped to actually installing them. I used a rubber hammer and a doubled over rag to tap them in to place...5+ years and they still look fine and are still in place.

Does anyone know if the Thule 579xt base will fit directly on the honda roof rack? Or would I have to buy the thule crossbars or some other special attachments? The fit guide on the Thule web site isn't much help.

There is no swing gate for the spare tire. The whole back hatch swings open gate style, and the tire is mounted to that. If you get a spare tire mounted rack then your bikes will swing out of the way when you open the back hatch. It's actually the best bike hauling setup I have seen. I do a lot of road trips with my bikes on the back and I like the fact that they are never in the way when I want to get in the back.

My 05 CRV did not come with a pre-installed front license plate holder. The dealer was nice-enough to give me the standard one from Honda, but he did not tell me how to install it. It didn't look like it would be too hard to do, as I am mechanically inclined, however, I can't figure out how to do it. Can anyone point me in the direction to a website with instructions? I suppose if all else fails I'll try to find a CRV with the front holder installed and take notice of how it was done. Just trying to avoid having to do that (don't want to make any one mad that a stranger is messing with his car).

I am looking for an '05 SE in the Boston area - I'm having trouble finding it in the color I want, nevermind for what I want to pay - there don't seem to be too many left. The only difference that I care about between the EX and the SE is the heated seats - anyone know if the heated seats are add-able afterwards? Has anyone done it? Honda is one of those companies where you have to get leather to get heat - any alternative that anyone knows about?

You can usually buy the pads your self and install it your self. Check out leather seat installer shops or internet sites that sell leather skins for seats. One problem with CR-V, the seats have weight sensors, and improper installation will render airbags useless. So, be carefull when installing heating pads. It better be you who scres up, rather than installer who then just takes the air bag lights out so you don't even know they made a mistake.

Anyone know if it is possible to change the scale of the speedometer of a 2005 cr-v?
The scale of 0 to 140 MPH is a bit useless. It is so nice to have 80-140 MPH eat up half the dial.

Would like something like 0-100 or so, over the full range.

I have a JDM/UKDM cluster that has a different rate of rise on the speedo needle. You can overlay the KM scale with a home made one to match the actual speeds.
The 12 o'clock position is 100 km/hr which is equivalent to 62 mph on the USDM cluster. But 60 is not at 12 o'clock on the USDM cluster. Let me know if you are interested in the cluster. It is for automatic tranny.

Hi, You can get all possible instaructions how to remove the whole dash board at www.manhonda.com then click parts then automobile and at the right side screen click instruction and instalation....pick the car you want. . I know its a very very late response because I just got my 05 EX CR-V four days ago and I'm installing a fog light to my new toy

I already installed my roof rack, it took me 30 minutes to do it, vice the dealer is charging me 3 hours in labor, they are insane :mad: you can get all the assy. from that site and its all OEM assy.

Hi...

I love my CRV -except- for the antenna. It's manual and the radio really doesn't work well without it all the way up. I always forget to put it -down- before going into the garage and thus end up whapping it every time I put it away for the night.

So are there:
1. A GOOD quality replacement antenna that is -floppy- (like the short rubber CB antennas I recall from many years ago.)

or...

2. A power antenna that fits in the same place on the roof?

I am planning to buy a new LX model which does NOT come with factory tint/privacy glass.

I plan to get my rear windows tinted. Any comments regarding the following would be appreciated:
-How long will an after-market tint last?
-Is there any "risk" in doing this i.e. violation of Honda warranty etc?

The longevity of the film will depend on its quality. If you are doing it your self, then you have a choice of films to use. If you are letting someone else do it, then you rely on them choosing the right film. I don't think Honda voids warranties for having aftermarket tint. But if the film is a little on the thicker side, and your run channels or window regulators fail, you will have to fight the dealer assuming that thicker film caused the failure.

Does any one have experience with a trailer hitch mounted bike rack on their CR-V? I know that a bike can be mounted on a bike roof rack but frankly I don't think I can lift my bike up over my head to attach it up there. I was also told that a bike can fit inside and I have tried that but I don't like the idea of getting the inside of my new car all scuffed up. I did buy a trailer hitch on-line at Handa.com . I'm wondering if the weight of the hitch itself -150 lbs. is really worth the extra stress on the vehicle. After all, once it's on I'll be bringing it with me wherever I go. I'd appreciate any input. Have you considered a hitch that mounts to the spare tire? I think there are two kinds: those that strap to the tire and those that include an adapter 'plate' that fits between the lug nuts and the wheel. Here's an example:

I use tire-mounted carrier made by Hollywood. It was something like $80 and works fine for 1-2 mountain bikes for day trips. The best part is that I can put it on/take it off as needed in like 20 seconds.

The problem I am having is that when loading my hockey bag into the trunk,the top edge of the rear bumper is getting scratched.It is silver in color and the scratched area looks black.They are visible even when the door is closed.

I'm looking for advice. I'm waiting on a '06 CR-V LX and am planning on buying the Curt 12515 hitch (a class 2.5 which fits the '06 per Curt) which has a 2" receiver and can take a tongue weight of 350lbs. What I want to do is figure out the best cargo carrier that swings away, DOESN'T" INTERFERE WITH THE SPARE and is safe. I'm concerned the extensions may not be safe with the tongue weight... am I overly concerned?

I'm looking for the 12-15 cu ft. capacity for 150-200 lbs of camping gear that swings away. Any comments on the following options regarding fit with the spare tire or in general?

You are a hopkey player, you should be able to lift the 80lbs bag high enough to go over the piainted bumpers in your SE, instead of dragging it over the bumper. :-)

I assume you have an SE because no other 2005 model trim come with painted bumpers.

You can get touch up paint from your dealer and fix the damage you have already done.

I think the OEM cargo mat has a lip that goes over the bumper to protect it. But that means you have to open the hatch, roll out the lip, drag your bag over the lip, roll the lip back up, close the hatch. Too many steps, when it is probably easier to:

A) Just lift the bag over the bumper.

Get a bunch of smaller bags to carry equipment, to make it easier to lift over the bumper.
C) Pick up synchronyzed swimming, no heavy bags to carry.

Spare Road...I beleive the manufacture is Hidden Hitch. It has a bracket that is bolted onto the spare tire bracket and then the bike rack sllips into the added bracket.

The US CR-V never came with daytime running lights (DRL), so there's no way to "enable" them. You need to have an aftermarket DRL kit installed.

wiring harness, on for the US, and one for Canada. I guess what is needed is the service
manual for the USA and the Canadian model, and see if Honda just left off pieces
parts of the US one.

I am also frustrated that DRL are not available here in the US, my insurance company offers a discount for cars with DRL...
