I see you just bought your Odyssey, which trim was it? We are currently looking for a starlight silver Odyssey EX w/ Nav, and nobody seems to have it. Of the dealers we visited, they all try to charge us an arm and a leg for it, and the car still may not arrive for another 2 weeks! What was your approach to find your vehicle?

where is a good place to buy an Ody with aftermarket leather- chicagoland
  • craigvcraigv Member Posts: 1
Valley Honda-Naperville/Aurora. Sell for MSRP, no hassles. Ask for Mike Katz. Not sure who does their leather, but I saw one and it looked great.

you're welcome, and welcome to the Ody family. I hope you enjoy the heck out of your van!

Bluehippo - Good luck in your Ody search - you'll find it!

As for us, I got on Honda's web site and e-mailed dealers within 100 miles of me saying that I wanted an EX Starlight Silver and would pay MSRP with no add-ons and that we were ready to buy now. I put our phone number and e-mail address for contact responses.

I got a lot of e-mail and phone calls from dealers with vans on the lot and they would sell them to me at over MSRP.

The call we got last Saturday was for a van that had been ordered by someone else who then changed their mind. I have since had the same call from other dealers.

Be patient and hold your ground on price. The dealers who called me with vans on the lot at over MSRP tried to tell me I'd never get a van at MSRP with no options or that I'd have to wait until the 2002's came out. That's nonsense and we're proof!

If you don't get what you are looking for right away keep e-mailing, even the same dealers. Lots of dealers did tell me that this is a great time of year to buy - everyone else is spending their money on Christmas presents.

rictom - I am enjoying the heck out of our new baby but wishing the garage was bigger!

I believe I am among the few fortunate folks in California who got their Ody at MSRP. I got mine from Merced Honda (ask for Phil - he is great).

Mel Rapton at Sacramento is selling at MSRP at well I heard.

Anyone ever get their Odys under MSRP in California?
  • cookiekelcookiekel Member Posts: 6
I called Mel Rapton. the have a waiting list of over 200.

Crown Honda at Reddings also sell at MSRP.

I too would like to know if anyone bought at below MSRP in California.

    Thanks

I was able to see a leather unit at Valley and they told me MSRP.

We purchased our 2001 ody Lx on 11/2/00 and it was 200.00 below msrp including destination charge in Miami, Florida

I bought a wrecked Honds Odyssey 2000 with 2k mile on it for $10,000. The repair specialist has restored over 35 vechiles. Mostly current year vechile with very low mileage. I will have a van in factory condition in two more weeks for a total investment of $20,000. This is less than 6k for an EX
  • timothyadavistimothyadavis Member Posts: 322
    But no warranty, I presume?
  • rictomrictom Member Posts: 89
I know what you mean about a bigger garage. We have a two car garage-and two cars. I find myself backing the van in, that way the dogs can get by it on their way outside. Nose first would fit but it'd be really tight for anyone trying to get by. I've marked a spot on the garage wall that when my side mirror lines up with that I stop and know I'll have clearance to close the door.

would Honda "inform" a dealer that they cannot sell a vehicle for a certain price? If I'm not mistaken, that would violate several anti-trust statutes....
  • timothyadavistimothyadavis Member Posts: 322
I'm sure that it was simply a decision by Mark Roberts and not Honda pressure that caused him to stop selling Odysseys at $316 over invoice. If you check the Mark Roberts Motors web site at www.autoinvoice.com you will find that they still sell the other Honda models (with the single other exception of the couple of S2000's they have gotten) at $316 over invoice. If the other Honda dealers were complaining to Honda corporate to pressure MR, it would be for these other models as they undoubtedly sell far more of these than the few Odysseys they can get (and so steal more sales from the other dealers in the other models). That MR still sells most models for $316 over invoice testifies to the facts.

My guess as to why the change happened (and only MR himself knows for sure) is that the Odyssey sales were eating up so much of the sales staff's time and not causing much good will among his local customers (who were getting squeezed out by us long-distance bargain hunters). It was a lose-lose situation for him. So, he now sells them for MSRP and saves time, effort and local goodwill while making more money in the process. Seems smart to me (although I wish I could have gotten mine first!).

My question was largely rhetorical! I'm not sure which amazes me more -- things dealers will say, or things people will believe.
  • timothyadavistimothyadavis Member Posts: 322
are to be believed, I have never needed even the thin excuse of a rhetorical question to launch into a long-winded opinion. But then some of the posts here that I was certain were rhetorical, tongue-in-cheek, or fraudulent put-ons have turned out to be very serious requests for a response (with some huffy postings to those who felt snubbed when no one answered them). I should have known that you were not one of those....

I picked up my GG Ody EX, Saturday. Paid MSRP plus title, tax and license. Got the extended 7/100/0 warranty for $885. While driving there did not here here the clunk on reversing. Now some times I here it. Is is serious problem?. No pulling to the right though. Has any one gotten this Ziebart rust proofed, or interior protection?

    Any info will be helpful,

    Thank you.

I'm hoping you all will understand why I am upset and not patron Brown's Arlington Honda in Arlington, Va. Many dealers in the MD, DC, VA area are adding options to jack up their prices on the Honda van. I have gotten many phone calls from dealers. My first question is always "What color is it?" (I don't want the Beige). My next question is "How much are you asking for it.

This a.m. I got a call from Brown's Arlington Honda. Gabe told me they had got one in. I asked what color it was. He said it was green (I first clarified which green) and I asked "How much are you charging". He said "26,840". I knew that this was MSRP, so I clarified that we were talking about the EX. He said yes.

I took off from work, took my son to LaPlata, MD and then met my husband in Alexandria to got to Arlington. When we got there, Gabe said that he just sold the green one and that he had a white one. He took us down on the lot to find it. He found it in the shop. Gabe said they were about to install mud flaps and cross bars. I told him that I did not want either. He said he couldn't stop it. I said "When I talked to you this morning, you said you were selling it for..." He interrupted me and said "MSRP". I knew what he was trying to do, so I clarified "You said 26,840." He said that is MSRP. I knew that there is an MSRP on add on also, so I wanted to make sure that he knew that I was aware that he actually quoted me a price and didn't just say MSRP. I asked him to tell the guy, who had not yet install the add ons to not do so. He said he couldn't do anything about it. I told him that the only reason I was there was because he quoted me a price of 26,840. I asked to speak to his manager. After normal salesman stalling, I again asked him if I could see his manager. The manager came over. I explained that the salesman had quoted me 26,840 over the phone this morning and that was the only reason I came. His reply was that his salesman shouldn't have told me that. He has 150 customers waiting for the van and he wasn't going to do a thing about it. I told him that his dealership was sleazy and left.

I understand that dealerships want to make as much money as they can while these vehicles are hot. I don't really have a problem with that. I have turned down at least 6-7 calls that have told me they have the van, but have marked it up. I personally am upset that I have to pay MSRP, but I refuse to pay over MSRP. In this situation, they got me over to their dealership on false pretenses. I took off from work and if you know the area, the traffic is terrible.

I realize that if you are waiting for a van and one comes in at Brown's, that you will likely go for it. Since eventually there will not be a shortage of vans, I'd like it if people would not buy any other Honda vehicle from Brown's Arlington Honda. Of course I'd like it if no one bought anything from them at all.

I was told what they did was illegal and I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau as well as the Attorney Generals office about this. In the meantime, I wanted to post the message here.

too bad about your experience with Browns.

I have tried on numerous occaisions to tell what my dealer WILL do price and delivery wise, only to be scribbled by Edmunds "host".

Good luck on finding your van.

Anybody that has gotten a good deal and professional treatment in the South Florida area for an Odessy LX, please post the name of the dealer. From what I have read there have been some bad experiences trying to get a van.

Have been on the waiting list for more than 2 weeks here on San Francisco bay area(Silicon Valley), finally got a call from my dealer yesterday afternoon. Called wife at work and went home to get check book and showed up at dealership 1 hour later.

Was asked for $2,000 over MSRP, neg. down to $1,600 over plus tax and license. What can I say, it's bay area and everything cost more. Love the van.

I live in the San Francisco bay area. Does anybody finance at dealer when you buy your Odyssey? Or it's better to get from outside? What's the best deal you can get at the dealer and from outside (better than 7.29%?) If outside is better choice, where I can get the best deal? Eloan or bank? Thank you for your time and help.

Anybody know, what is different between alarm systems and security system on 2001 odyssey EX,Thanks a lot for helping us
  • mphan_2000mphan_2000 Member Posts: 1
The security system on the 2001 Odyssey will sound the alarm only if the door/s is opened without using the remote control or the key. There is no glass breaking detecting mechanism.

If they are like what I hear of those Honda dealers in the Bay area screwing their customers with prices way over sticker I sure as heck would NOT let them get a kickback on my finaning too. Tell them they screwed you enough.

Any one know of good Odyssey EX deals in LA/Orange Co area? MSRP+$2000 (includes protective package) is a ripe-off and dealers know it. It appears to simply be a supply and demand issue.

THAT IS $ 1000 TO $2000 OVER STICKER ON THE ODYSSEY LX

I purchased my 2001 EX from Executive Honda in Wallingford, Connecticut for $26,839 "out the door" -- $1 below MSRP. Ray, a salesperson there, personally delivered the vehicle to my door (no incremental charge for this). I ordered the vehicle on August 19, 2000. I took delivery on November 2, 2000.
  • bostongardenbostongarden Member Posts: 25
Oh, by the way, I live in the Boston area, so the delivery was quite helpful to me -- I wanted it delivered to my door. I have never seen nor visited the dealership. Everything was done via the Internet and telephone. One should think carefully about buying a car this way before doing it as there are some aspects to this process which may be risky to some.

I purchased my 2001 EX from Enfield Honda in CT for $380 under MSRP. I went to their web site and requested a quote. It took 5 weeks to come in from the time we put the order in over the phone. I live in central CT and contacted all the Honda dealers in this state. All the other dealers were asking MSRP except for Fair Honda in Danbury which wanted MSRP + $2000 + add ons. The next lowest quote I received was from Balise Honda in W. Springfield, MA. They were asking $268 below MSRP. Hope this helps!

I'll be visiting a dealer tomorrow in MD
who still has several Canadian 2000 EXs on
the lot. I was originally going to order
a 2001 LX but now I'm thinking of making an
offer on one of the 2000 EXs. Besides the
fact that the original warranty is voided,
are there any other potential problems when
purchasing a Canadian model? Thanks for any
    info...
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
Yes a very big problem will be on your horizon with this. Its called TMU (true mileage unknown), when you go to sell your van or to trade it in your values will be half. You will likely have problems with MVA if you sell it also.
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
I had a customer in last night looking to replace their 99 Ody with a 2001. Seems they totalled theirs out last week. They were broadsided by a Ford F-150 at 50mph! I went out to his car and he showed me pics....wow. His wife was driving, and their two children in the middle rows. Not a scratch on either of the tots. The wife has bruises from the seat belts.

Needless to say, they are very very happy Ody owners.

Now comes the hard part...getting them another one!

I just saw a post from someone here in the SF Bay area on this same topic but now I can't find it to reply to. I am also interested in the financing of an Odyssey. I put out my loan bid on LendingTree and received what appears to be a good deal from PeopleFirst. My only question is about the interest rate. They are offering 7.99% to 8.49% (depending on payment method) on $28,840. When I mentioned this to a family member that had recently bought a car, they seemed to think that either of these rates were outrageous. The loan is for 60 months so I don't know if the rate would be less for a shorter time.

It seems like I'm always seeing exceptionally low rates on the commercials but none of these are for the Odyssey (mostly its for domestics). Is this also due to the high demand for the Odysseys? Any pointers would be appreciated. I'm just starting to fish around the Northern Cal. area for an EX and I'd like to have my head on straight and ducks in a row before I start talking numbers to any dealer. Thanks again.

Honda of Oakland is selling the EX at $1000 over MSRP and the 7yr/100k miles warranty was quoted at $1450. They didn't seem to be too interested in negotiating the price either. I know that there have been a few folks from this area looking for dealers so I thought I'd let you know what I found from this one. All of this info was through email and over the phone so something better may have come out of it had I gone to the lot.

I am trying to get out of my 1997 Maxima to purchase a 01 MB EX. I live in the ATL area and dealers here won't budge. Anyone know of any dealers that will let me "swallow" some negative equity and still be around MSRP. I will go anywhere in the southeast to find a great deal. We have a baby due any day now and would really appreciate any help tracking a dealer down.

I've been on waiting lists at several dealers for the last month but my car died this weekend and I had to make an emergency purchase (really wanted the Odyssey). I walked into a dealer yesterday who had some 2001's on the lot and bought a 2001 Odyssey EX for $750 over MSRP + taxes + tags. This price included the dealer added options of pinstriping, mud guards and wheel locks (none of which I really wanted but they were already on the car). They were origonally asking $3995 over MSRP + $571 for the options. I'm sure I could have done better had I had time to wait, but when your car dies, there aren't to many choices.

Okay, I'm ready to take the plunge. Has anyone located a dealer they can recommend in the mid-Atlantic region? (I'm in the DC metro area). I hope to get a GG EX at slightly below MSPR. ($500-800 below). Is this unrealistic? Is it possible?
Thanks to all for sharing info, tips, etc.

Has anyone attempted to use a buying service for an Odyssey? With what results?
  • crodysseycrodyssey Member Posts: 4
Just bought a 2001 Odyssey. Paid sticker plus destination charge, tax, title, and a state lien fee (Iowa).

I've seen many posts regarding the 7/100K/$0 extended warranty for around $900. I turned it down at the dealership during the purchase without asking about price. I have had good experiences with Warranty Gold (.com) and also figured the Honda would be more reliable than domestics.

Is there an advantage to having the Honda extended warranty? Thanks for the advice!

Dooooh. Good luck on the Atlanta dealers. The best I've found so far is asking MSRP plus $1295 for the mud guard package and $1995 for the leather. My buddy bought in Gainesville for a little bit better than that but not much better.
Anybody else in Atlanta with suggestions????????????????

What is MVA? Why will there be TMU if bought new? I bought a new Canandian '01 in Seattle a few months ago? Can I buy the HCW ($895) 7yr/100k/$0 warranty for this vehicle?
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
MVA is Motor Vehicle Administration (here in Marland). A brand spanking new Odyssey purchased in Canada will be TMU at trade in, or at resale here in the US. I dont know about the warranty, you'll have to ask a Honda dealer in Seattle.

You might try Vardaman Honda in Hattiesburg, MS.

Last weekend (11/18) they had an Emerald Green on the lot that the customer had cancelled.

It might be worth a call.

Atlanta people looking for MSRP on a 2001 Ody, see the following dealers:

    Boomershine Honda in Cartersville
    Mike Patton Honda in LaGrange

Both will sell the Ody for MSRP without dealer add ons. Of course there is a waiting list and a $500.00 deposit

Nalley Honda in Union City usually will have 1 on the lot or 1 come in mysteriously. If you stand firm on what you want to pay for the car, they will sell it to you for MSRP plus 295.00 doc fee
(the dealers listed above list their doc fees at $195, so negotiate that too)
