As for us, I got on Honda's web site and e-mailed dealers within 100 miles of me saying that I wanted an EX Starlight Silver and would pay MSRP with no add-ons and that we were ready to buy now. I put our phone number and e-mail address for contact responses.
I got a lot of e-mail and phone calls from dealers with vans on the lot and they would sell them to me at over MSRP.
The call we got last Saturday was for a van that had been ordered by someone else who then changed their mind. I have since had the same call from other dealers.
Be patient and hold your ground on price. The dealers who called me with vans on the lot at over MSRP tried to tell me I'd never get a van at MSRP with no options or that I'd have to wait until the 2002's came out. That's nonsense and we're proof!
If you don't get what you are looking for right away keep e-mailing, even the same dealers. Lots of dealers did tell me that this is a great time of year to buy - everyone else is spending their money on Christmas presents.
rictom - I am enjoying the heck out of our new baby but wishing the garage was bigger!
Mel Rapton at Sacramento is selling at MSRP at well I heard.
Anyone ever get their Odys under MSRP in California?
Crown Honda at Reddings also sell at MSRP.
I too would like to know if anyone bought at below MSRP in California.
Thanks
My guess as to why the change happened (and only MR himself knows for sure) is that the Odyssey sales were eating up so much of the sales staff's time and not causing much good will among his local customers (who were getting squeezed out by us long-distance bargain hunters). It was a lose-lose situation for him. So, he now sells them for MSRP and saves time, effort and local goodwill while making more money in the process. Seems smart to me (although I wish I could have gotten mine first!).
Any info will be helpful,
Thank you.
This a.m. I got a call from Brown's Arlington Honda. Gabe told me they had got one in. I asked what color it was. He said it was green (I first clarified which green) and I asked "How much are you charging". He said "26,840". I knew that this was MSRP, so I clarified that we were talking about the EX. He said yes.
I took off from work, took my son to LaPlata, MD and then met my husband in Alexandria to got to Arlington. When we got there, Gabe said that he just sold the green one and that he had a white one. He took us down on the lot to find it. He found it in the shop. Gabe said they were about to install mud flaps and cross bars. I told him that I did not want either. He said he couldn't stop it. I said "When I talked to you this morning, you said you were selling it for..." He interrupted me and said "MSRP". I knew what he was trying to do, so I clarified "You said 26,840." He said that is MSRP. I knew that there is an MSRP on add on also, so I wanted to make sure that he knew that I was aware that he actually quoted me a price and didn't just say MSRP. I asked him to tell the guy, who had not yet install the add ons to not do so. He said he couldn't do anything about it. I told him that the only reason I was there was because he quoted me a price of 26,840. I asked to speak to his manager. After normal salesman stalling, I again asked him if I could see his manager. The manager came over. I explained that the salesman had quoted me 26,840 over the phone this morning and that was the only reason I came. His reply was that his salesman shouldn't have told me that. He has 150 customers waiting for the van and he wasn't going to do a thing about it. I told him that his dealership was sleazy and left.
I understand that dealerships want to make as much money as they can while these vehicles are hot. I don't really have a problem with that. I have turned down at least 6-7 calls that have told me they have the van, but have marked it up. I personally am upset that I have to pay MSRP, but I refuse to pay over MSRP. In this situation, they got me over to their dealership on false pretenses. I took off from work and if you know the area, the traffic is terrible.
I realize that if you are waiting for a van and one comes in at Brown's, that you will likely go for it. Since eventually there will not be a shortage of vans, I'd like it if people would not buy any other Honda vehicle from Brown's Arlington Honda. Of course I'd like it if no one bought anything from them at all.
I was told what they did was illegal and I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau as well as the Attorney Generals office about this. In the meantime, I wanted to post the message here.
I have tried on numerous occaisions to tell what my dealer WILL do price and delivery wise, only to be scribbled by Edmunds "host".
Good luck on finding your van.
Was asked for $2,000 over MSRP, neg. down to $1,600 over plus tax and license. What can I say, it's bay area and everything cost more. Love the van.

who still has several Canadian 2000 EXs on
the lot. I was originally going to order
a 2001 LX but now I'm thinking of making an
offer on one of the 2000 EXs. Besides the
fact that the original warranty is voided,
are there any other potential problems when
purchasing a Canadian model? Thanks for any
info...
Needless to say, they are very very happy Ody owners.
Now comes the hard part...getting them another one!
It seems like I'm always seeing exceptionally low rates on the commercials but none of these are for the Odyssey (mostly its for domestics). Is this also due to the high demand for the Odysseys? Any pointers would be appreciated. I'm just starting to fish around the Northern Cal. area for an EX and I'd like to have my head on straight and ducks in a row before I start talking numbers to any dealer. Thanks again.

Thanks to all for sharing info, tips, etc.
I've seen many posts regarding the 7/100K/$0 extended warranty for around $900. I turned it down at the dealership during the purchase without asking about price. I have had good experiences with Warranty Gold (.com) and also figured the Honda would be more reliable than domestics.
Is there an advantage to having the Honda extended warranty? Thanks for the advice!
Anybody else in Atlanta with suggestions????????????????
Last weekend (11/18) they had an Emerald Green on the lot that the customer had cancelled.
It might be worth a call.
Boomershine Honda in Cartersville
Mike Patton Honda in LaGrange
Both will sell the Ody for MSRP without dealer add ons. Of course there is a waiting list and a $500.00 deposit
Nalley Honda in Union City usually will have 1 on the lot or 1 come in mysteriously. If you stand firm on what you want to pay for the car, they will sell it to you for MSRP plus 295.00 doc fee
(the dealers listed above list their doc fees at $195, so negotiate that too)
