I see people saying $500 below MSRP, is that including Destination charge or without it.

That make a diff of over $500.

Please let me know what is the case.

    cdstar --

Thanks for your detailed message. I have a very busy prof./travel schedule and am willing to pay a premium to an extent to save time. However, if the difference is $2,000 to $3,000, it certainly makes sense to check things out. I will do precisely what you suggested and report back so that other people will benefit from your suggestion and my experience.

    Again, thanks.

Just wondering if you have taken delivery of the Ocean Mist '05 Ody yet? Looked at the dealership today and did not see one in the back. I was told one would be coming in on Wednesday of this week.

This New ODDY I think is priced way High. I bought an '03 in December '03 for 25,5 for an EX I traded it in 4 months later for 26k. 33-35k for an EX-L with Nav and DVD. Why not go for the 05 Pilot Which has almost all the features plus AWD at a couple grand less. This is actually what we did I got a 04 Pilot EX-L RES for 30k. I here that the 05's with VSA, Sunroof and 6cd are only going for 1200-1700 more. I think the Pilot at 31-32K is a better deal than a 35k+ minivan.

That's about $910 below MSRP. I think it is a good deal provided they do not inflate it with any unnecessary items/costs. I have put in a deposit to get EXL for MSRP without Nav/DVD. I live in the Portland, Oregon area too. I don't think that 2 months down the line, these vans are going to sell close to invoice, atleast in the Portland Metro area but its just my opinion. Can you pls. share the dealers name. Thanks

    Try Thomason or Captol Honda.

White Plains honda claimed they located the car I wanted 10 miles away, and wanted to close the deal asap. Then, they proceeded to make themselves unavailable for 24hrs. I had another dealer do a locate and the car was not on the ground anywhere in NY/NJ/CT area. (liar liar pants on fire)

So, dealer doing the locate did find the car for me outside pittsburgh, I called that dealer,
and I will take posession of the car for MSRP-500,
no fees, and all accessories at cost.

    paid 34100 for EX-L w/DVD & NAVI (500 under msrp)
no nonsense. 5hr drive, but thats fine.

Got a sage brush w/olive interior DVD & NAVI.
Adding plusone and all weather mats.

Ill post the dealer once I have the car, definately straight, no iterations or nonsense.

Curious about the type of cargo net that was an accessory...I thought that the cargo net was included with the EX and above?

We are looking at the EX-L Odyessy, still trying to decide if this van is going to be the "one" for my back problems. We began looking at SUV's again, like the Expedition husband does not like it and says I probably won't like it but go see anyway. We will be going to look at Volvo XC90 tomorrow or Thursday and then decide for sure what to go with. What are the most popular exterior colors, like the beige interior more than the gray but will do either one. Saw the 2005 goldish color today on the road, definatlty not my choice.

I have been dealing with the guys from Renton Honda too.
Was your price over or under MSRP?
    Any tips you might have?
    Thanks.
  • cpstarcpstar Member Posts: 31
If you can wait you should, probably for 3-6 months. Clearly prices are not going to rise IMO. At worst they will stay the same. At best they will hover around invoice.

Given that both Honda and Toyota plan to produce more minivans this year than in the past chances are prices will come down sooner than later. DC's T&C is another strong competitor and so is Quest. Sedona seems to be getting some serious attention as well. With the minivan market being so competitive it is likely that manufacturers including Ford will get more aggressive in pushing their products. All of these scenarios would play in favor of the consumer putting downward pressure on sale prices.

The bottom line is the demand is not likely to exceed supply, so sales at or around MSRP cannot last for long.

I've been looking for a 2005 Odyssey EX-L in the Rockville area. I spent the day emailing all the Honda dealers within an hour drive of Rockville, MD. If a dealer from VA or PA give me the best price, can they register the tag in MD or do I have to transfer the tag myself? BTW, the best price I've found so far is in Baltimore for 600 below MSRP. I'm thinking of expand my search into central PA for a better deal.
  • dulnevdulnev Member Posts: 652
Any dealer in VA and PA can register your car in MD; there's absolutelly no hassle involved. I live in Northern VA and bought my car in New Jersey because the local dealers wouldn't budge on price. Buying the car was no different than local dealers.

One thing you have to be aware of is the documentation junk fee. Most dealers in MD don't charge any, while ALL dealers in VA do and it can be as high as $300. I would highly recommend expanding your search area to include New Jersey.

Don't be suckered by this scam. Do search on the net for window etching to learn more. You can do it your self for 15-$35. A glass shop will do it for $60-$100.

Talked to the internet manager and he said it will be in sometime today (Wed). We'll be picking it up after work. Once I hear from him, I'll post a message to you that it has come in.

stopped to look at colors last night. Between the one on the floor, one out front, and the 6 I found hiding in the back, thei dealer (S. NJ, a high volume one) had at least 8 Odys on the ground. 2 had sold stickers on them, but the rest seemed to be available. Seemed to be lots of EX cloth models.

Not sure how much they would deal on price, but all the stock units have an addendum sticker for the 'protection" package. Wheel locks, pin stripes, window etch, plus a couple of other fluff items, and a Lojack, all for the bargain price of $995!

I can live with locks/pins, as they are useful and relatively cheap, but I can't beleive too many people really want a lojack, Truly cheesy to add to every unit in advance. WOnder how simple it is to remove?

They also had an EX with an added Removable DVD. On the ceiling, but not quite sure what was removable. They also had the gall to ask $1995 for it.

just paid 34100 for that car (exl-dvd-nav) which is msrp -500. I believe this car will hold its own against the new stuff coming out, since it
is a generation ahead to start with. I expect to
keep mine in tip-top shape for 200K miles.

(Im replacing a totalled volvo with 200K)
got the price 400miles from me in metro pittsburgh

I am also looking a EX. Ourisman honda quoted me a $500 off MSRP and I believe college park honda can do better.

I agree, there is no hassle with buying from VA when you are a MD resident. I purchased my Subaru from the Honda dealership in Leesburg, I was a resident of Columbia, MD at the time.

The only thing I would caution you about is the VA inspection sticker that goes on your windshield. The Subie was a used vehicle, so I had to bring it to a MD dealership for its safety inspection. The guys that did the inspection removed the VA safety sticker as they said MD didn't allow stuff on the windshield. For the 3-4 weeks before my MD plates came in, I was driving with a VA temporary plate with no sticker.

Since I worked in Sterling, I was worried that the lack of sticker would draw unwanted attention from the local PD. Nothing happedend but definitely hang onto the VA inspection slip and/or sticker just in case.

BTW. That dealership did have a doc/service fee that the charged everyone. There was noticeable sign that stated that they charged the fee for ALL vehicle purchases. I don't recall the amount, but I recall that it was pretty high.

I purchased yesterday at $34,000 (610 under MSRP) in Columbus, Ohio. There may have been more room in price, but the dealer had our color in stock, and we needed delivery within one month. We found only three of this model in stock in the market and one on order.
  • mybuymybuy Member Posts: 42
    baileybrad,
I just talked to Performance at 4pm and my Ocean Mist is on a truck somewhere and is scheduled to be delivered (I hope!) shortly. I'll send a message as soon as I hear anything more.

I'm surprised Ourisman quoted $500 below MSRP. They're one of the dealerships in the area that is still charging a ridiculous over MSRP price. Back on 22 SEP they were charging a $1500 markup. Not sure of the markup now but believe its still $1K. Just about everyone in the area is willing to go $500 below MSRP. I was hoping someone had reach the $1K off MSRP level. I don't think its too much to ask with the dealer making about $4K on every vehicle sold at MSRP.
Also the inventory at Oursiman is pretty low, so they will steer you to make a down payment on one that's due in.

Which dealer in Baltimore offered $600 off MSRP?
  • dv8tordv8tor Member Posts: 23
Well, I've been shopping for an EX-L the last two weeks. I actually went to a dealer this weekend to find out availability of the color I'm looking for. Looks like the "target date" for the color I'm looking for was 10/16-10/18 for a lot of dealers in the Orange County, CA area. The dealer indicated that the "target date" is scheduled completion date. It takes approx. 1-2 weeks after that date for the dealer to receive the vehicle. This dealer was offering me $200. under MSRP. This MSRP includes destination. Hardin Honda sent me an email that they were selling theirs for $500. below MSRP last weekend. And I just received an email from Norm Reeves today that they are selling theirs at $400. below MSRP. Fladaboe is about $3000. ABOVE MSRP because they said it includes LoJack ($795 from Carsdirect.com) and a paint and interior protectant. They are absolutely crazy to charge this price. Norm Reeves Huntington Beach is $2100 ABOVE MSRP for their add-ons that are worth $200. Well, looks like I'm going to let the market settle down as it looks like pricing is starting to move BELOW MSRP. If you can wait another 2-3 weeks, it just may save you another $1000! Good luck to all!

In MD, Bowie Honda, I recently bought an EX-L RES/NAV for $1000 under MSRP (had to pay destination fee) but convinced them to include ~$350 worth of accessories which I got to choose. All this and a great experience with the dealer, especially compared to others in our area.

    Kendokid,

My price will be around 200-300 over MSRP. They gave my trade in the value I asked for.

If you got a chance to meet with sale staff,
and ready to negotiate with them, you should be able to get a deal. But be firm on your out-of-pocket cost with open mind like accessories, ... Maintain good and healthy discussion.

They just got the Ody I like delivered from Honda
yesterday morning. As soon as I got the news, I hit the road with check book and they knew I am a very serious buyer. The fact that my trade-in could be a certified used car candidate also helped.

Of course, both parties want to get the best out from the deal making. But this is impossible,
compromises defintely need to be reached. Both sides need to be motivated and willing to neogatiate then a deal will be reach.

At my part, I am asking for good condition KBB
dealer trade-in value, which could be higher...

If you can wait, my guess that the price from dealer will drop as early as around Christmas. 2004 is not 1999 for Odyssey buyers. Especially too many
potential buys opt for the 2004 model clearance. For me, I am just too happy with my trade-in civic and can't wait to drive odyssey.

    Hope this help.

I offered the dealer who sold me a 99 and 02 Odyssey exactly the mid point between invoice and MRSP for a 05 EX-l NAV-RES. Their one price is $500 off and I have seen $1000 in the area. What brain surgeon will turn down 1800 profit plus a 2%holdback for van to be made in mid november and delivered end of november? Well, my dealer. Yes you will all say these are hot he can do better but overall I bought 3 vans there (one Caravan) and referred over 20+ people to him over the years as attested by the many referral fees I get. I will wait and I firmly predict lots in stock by Christmas. Production is only about 80% right now and demand is from the must have new model people. Economy is not 1999 and production is not just 50k per year. This dealer offended me with sorry but that is the deal. Yes, it was his business decision. And I have made mine.
By the way this dealer has had 4 tourings sitting on the lot for quite some time. No res no navi. I think HONDA made a mistake on that one. Too much when EX-L with navi and dvd is $400 less!!!!!

I wouldn't buy from any dealer with policies like this one. I would try at least one or two others, or use one of the internet services to locate a dealer who will give you a fair deal on an Ody. Toyota dealers used to pull stuff like this in the days when there was high demand and limited supply before Toyota and Honda started assembling cars in the US. I got stung for junk like this on my previous car (Toyota) and the dealer I bought my current Accord from tried to pull a scam on me with financing/extended warranty. I persevered and got the certified used vehicle warranty at a fair price. Be aware that Honda offers only a 3yr warranty on its cars, no extended power train warranty as on other makes.

We saw your van today while it was being prepped and when it was out front with the white balloons attached waiting on you (around 4:40 pm). So you wound up getting an LX...I thought, for some reason, that you were looking at an EX of some type. Your van is beautiful...we were torn between the silver pearl and the ocean mist. Seeing your van swayed to the OM instantly. I will post the break out of the numbers when the final papers are signed. Hope you enjoy your vehicle and I really appreciate you keeping us informed of your experience. Any additional comments on your vehicle after you have had it a few days would be welcomed.

Performance Honda in Fairfield has 3 Silver Pearl Metallic EX 05 Odys on the lot at the present time. We purchased an EX on the 17th and gave them our color choice today (the 21st). We went with Ocean Mist Metallic over the SPM so they will have to try and locate one for us...or it will be around 4 weeks. Not sure about LX 05s...I only remember seeing 1 LX on their lot in the past few weeks and I don't think that it was SPM.
  • ecarmackecarmack Member Posts: 161
Thanks for the info. I will be in that area in a week or two, and may check with them. I finally came across a Slate Green and thought it looked pretty nice, but I still preferred the Silver Pearl. I have yet to see an Ocean Mist, but I hope to before I purchase. You must have really liked it to put off your deal for a month.

Originally looking for LX. After the one we were dealing on was traded away, we were shown the base touring model. Wife liked the slate green, olive interior. Since the one we were discussing was traded away, dealer offered the base touring to us at 33324.00. We are very happy. Hendrick Honda Charlotte NC

Guess What? This is real. I am not making it up.

I just able to buy 2005 EXL with DVD and with NAV for $32,200.

    MSRP is $34,095 + 500 destination fee.

That is over 2K under MSRP.

The dealer is in Orange County, CA.

Carltao, I don't know if it legal to do that but it's in Orange County. I'm new and don't want to get in trouble. Just use Edmunds and get a price quote. Use Orange county zip code. You will get response from the four dealers. One of them should be it.

  • surferjoesurferjoe Member Posts: 18
    DV8TOR:

Excellent information on Orange County, CA. The two of us must be crossing paths. I'm hearing the same stories as you from the dealerships.

I'll keep you posted if I get any new information.

I have a deposit at Norm Reeves Cerritos for an EX-L NAV/DVD that is due in around 11/15.

This discussion is for telling other members what you paid for your Odyssey and who the dealer was.

It's not a place to ask for email addresses so you can get referral fees (not to mention the spam you'll get if you post your email on a public forum).

So, please, tell us who your dealer was, where the dealer is located, and how much you paid.

    Thanks!

Yes, I purchased it in Norman, OK. You in Sooner country also? I purchased a White Touring R&N and received a $300 discount after a few conversations with the manager. Every bit helps. The biggest discount was in their Tires For Life program. They are running the promotion on all new hondas, the PAX system I assumed was going to be more expensive to replace then a normal tire. The managers eyes definetly lit up when I asked him if it fell under the promotion. They hadn't even talked about it! Hehe, needless to say as long as the title is in my name I only have to pay for mounting and balancing when they need replaced. Overall it was a good experience, but I'm sure they will be ammending their Tires for Life program to not include the PAX system. Love the Odyssey will keep it until the wheels fall off, and then have them put some new ones on. hehe! Good Luck to you.

I hope you haven't bought a car yet! I got a call last week from a dealer in the Western Suburbs of Chicago who said he'd just received 15 '05 Odysseys and that they would be selling them for $1000 below MSRP. Problem is, I can't remember which dealer it was (might have been Grand Honda/Elmhurst). I live in Michigan and will be heading to Chicago next weekend to look at Odysseys. Our dealers around here are very limited in their stock and I want to see the color before I commit to the car. Good luck!
