My buddy just showed me the 2002 brochure and I am more positive that pleather from the Accord has been deleted this time. Anyway, I saw his buyers order for an inbound 2002 with dvd -leather.
He is being given a $4500 trade difference. His 2001 plus $4,500. I could not believe it. That equates to about 26,000 trade for the 2001 EX. In fairness he added VHS system and a few options-bug thing, tranny cooler etc but to get out of a 2001 with only 7,000 miles and get leather, 2002 improvements plus dvd looked really sweet for him. I guess dealer is convinced he can sell for $27000 making $1,000 there and $3,000 on the new one. Why is dealer treating him so well. I guess all are not greedy. He was worried he could do better in Tulsa. I laughed and told him to go see one of the Tulsa dealers. He is tonight. I predict they want van plus $6,000 or so.

    You mentioned the following:

"The bad news -- The Acura trip computer and outside temperature features ARE NOT part of the Navigation System and do NOT use the Navigation System Screen. This information appears on a small display on the dash below the speedometer."

Are saying that there is an outside temperature feature on the dash below the speedometer on the EX model?

How well does it drive and ride? What about road noise? And are the amber taillights much better looking in real life?

NO, I was responding to speculation that the 2002 Odyssey NAV might include outside temperature and trip computer because the original poster thought the Acura NAV system included it. The answer is that it is not part of the NAV system on either car; the Acura has these features on a separate dash display. The Odyssey does NOT (I haven't seen a 2002, but it isn't listed in the specs and does NOT come with the Navigation System).

Hope that is clear. As far as I know, if you want outside temp and trip computer, buy an Acura, or add it on 3rd party...

Well now have 100 miles on the new 2002!
Drives great, You can definitly tell the HP difference. The handling seems alot better because of the new supension. Have not heard any rattles at all and the noise reduction improvements seem like a great addition too.
There are cup holders everywhere including one
on each of the middle seats that fold away.
Nice touch! The front seats seem a little stiff
though I hope they lossen up especially on the
sides this might be due to the side airbags that
are in the seat! The hooks in the rear seat are
a plus, as you can hang your plastic grocery bags
without leaving them on the floor.
Overall I am still extremely pleased with the van
seems to glide down the roadand has plenty of
pickup when accerating. I will give more info
    after further mileage.

Any Info on the 895 warranty for anyone.
I check the previous postings but couldn't find
    it. Info requested:
Type warranty: zero or 50 deductible, years/mileage Ect.
Also does anybody bought the aftermarket
cassette (original Honda)from internet and had installed
at dealership.Would like info on cost of install and if
    still cover by ext.warranty.
My dealer wanted 695.00 when I bought my 2002
When I said NO,NO,NO, He then lowered to 495.00
I still said NO, But I'd think about it!

Cassette - skip it. Buy 49 CD's at $10 each and keep the handy pocket for your tissues. Even at $200 for the cassette, skip the old media and spend the $ on some new tunes. This was my wifes idea - we needed a change from Baby Beluga tapes then anyway. We have never turned back since.
IMHO, the only worthwhile stereo add-on in that pocket under the stereo is the in-dash 6-CD changer. Looks cool and I am thinking about adding one on. You can get it cheaper at one of the Internet Honda parts suppliers and if the dealer will not install it and you are not enterprising, then have a local stereo shop or garage do it.

I agree. Various and sundried motivational types are now offering CD versions of their lectures; books-on-tape is quickly becoming books-on-CDs. Furthermore, you can get the in-dash CD changer and then buy a portable audio cassette player for around 20 bucks at Best Buy for those occasions (which should become increasingly rare) when you absolutely need one. The CD changer is a much better investment, IMHO.

Message 3031 displays 2002 Ody colors. They take several minutes to display--I, like many users, have dial-up and seldom can connect at greater than 28,800. Every time I hit that page, I wait.
The colors bog down your servers and take quite a while to load for the typical user.

Next, color displays are usually "off" compared to the real thing due to
1.scanner used to feed the colors in and
    2.monitor used by the recipient

I really believe that people will simply have to go to the dealer to get the color charts (and even they are often slightly different from reality!!)

Therefore I recommend that you delete the message with the color chart.

Just curious if anyone out there has had any success selling their used vehicle thru Autotrader.com or any other service. I've had my 1999 Ody Ex listed for a week, and not one bite. I live in the New York Metropolitan area, so there should be a huge number of potential internet users out there. Anyone?..........
  • viskhaviskha Member Posts: 35
Just a clarification: I had asked the original question regarding trip computer on the Acura MDX versus the Ody NAV - actually I have an Acura RL that has outside temp in speedometer; however, the Acura brochure on 2001 MDX shows the NAV screen used as a trip computer - if you do not get NAV on the MDX it is only a trip computer, if you get NAV the screen fuctions as the navigation screen as well as a trip computer.
Thanks for the clarification on the Ody EXL-NAV though.

I'm looking to sell my van.... Also why do you need my E-Mail...Can't everyone else see?
  • looboolooboo Member Posts: 7
Oh no! That was the one complaint I had about test driving the 2001 EX- the seats aren't as comfortable as my old Grand Voyager. I was hoping with the new lumbar seating and "deep bolstered support" that the 2002 boasts- would be more comfortable. I guess I will have to wait until my 2002 arrives and see.

Ok, I now have 152 miles on my RP EX 02 Ody. I love it! Drove it home from www.goudyhonda.com in LA yesterday. BTW, excellent dealer service, great car buying experience. Paid msrp+$700, but I got it in one week and I am satisfied. As for the ride --- Seems like plenty of power. The break-in advice is don't push it for first 600 miles; so I didn't. Didn't get over 65. I have been driving a Toyo Camry, that I also loved. This Ody is Not as quiet as the Camry, but is quieter than the 01 Ody. It is quiet enough for me. The stereo isn't great and I am plan to beef it up with at least better speakers. I do want to find out if the 02 stereo has been improved over the 01. I don't know yet. The ride seem very nice. again, not as good as the Camry, but good enough. My wife has a bad back and it is certainly good enough for her, as is the front passenger seat. BTW, only the driver seat has the lumbar adjustment. The van has Michelin tires on it; that was a pleasant surprise. Not lots of road noise. The gear shift lever is in a peculiar position very close to the dash. It is taking a little time to get used to; though I don't think that is a real problem. The tranny itself seems to shift very smoothly. I am pleased with the shifting. Vision to the rear when backing is a little tricky; this is the same as previous years -- no change. I am thinking about adding the rear sensor's that detect something in back. I haven't checked out the cost/trouble yet, but I will. I figure not hitting something one time would pay for itself perhaps... Backing will be even harder for my wife; if she ever gets a chance to drive it. ;) I didn't hear any rattles, but then I don't hear very well, in fact, I wear 2 hearing aids. So I am not the best person to make that judgement. All in all, I am very pleased with my Oddy. I am looking forward to tricking it up with a few things like: better horns (the stock horn really sounds weak), steering wheel cover (not a necessity just something I want), better stereo speakers (though hard of hearing I do like LOUD AND GOOD quality sound) I only turn it up when no one else is in the car. Maybe the rear sensors, fog lights (though I don't really think they do all that much) I will be looking for other stuff to do to the vehicle. I love it!

Well, it looks very upscale. Saw silver with Quartz and Gran Green EX cloth. First two that dealer received. Nice overall BUT I have a grinding, sneaking suspicion that by March when Alabama is on line will have easy $500 and $1000 discounts with no wait. But I guess it may be better to buy a Canadian built Odyssey now then an Alabama one built by greenhorns later.

the website I am talking about is BELOWWWWWWWWWWWW MSRP.....trying to keep the list from getting too long and prolonging my wait for my odyssey....and btw..there are no deposits neceesary to get this price..only PATIENCE!!
  • phoenix2001phoenix2001 Member Posts: 22
The two online sites I know of that are selling Ody's for below MSRP are selling Canadian Ody's with a third party warranty instead of the Honda warranty. www.xpresscars.com and www.anyautosonline.com are the ones I have seen.
  • tom477tom477 Member Posts: 42
the one I am talking about is different than those two
  • tag9tag9 Member Posts: 39
With all due respect, why are you soliciting e-mail addresses? Your stated rationale, "to keep the list from getting too long and prolonging my wait", defies logic. Doesn't the service operate on a first-come, first-served basis? If so, how would revealing the name of the company or the URL affect **you**? If not, how can you (or anyone else, for that matter) be certain you'll see your Ody before next summer?

I mean, if you're getting something out of this deal (e.g. a referral fee), why not disclose it? Otherwise, why not simply post the URL on this board?

    Hi,
On the warrenty for $895, it is 0 deductable. Got the leverage from an earlier post. Sales Mgr. must have had a weak moment. The salesman said it was less than he paid for his (he waxed philsophically).

The amber tail lights do help. I think if they were red they would get lost in the rest of the RR Pearl color.

We drove through a nasty storm this weekend :( and the noise wasn't too bad. Had a spooky moment of hydroplaining, even with new Michelins. The van handled it well, and the passengers didn't even notice. Note to self, don't use cruise control in a heavy downpour.

The grade sensing logic seemed to work for a couple of hills. Lots of power on the highway. The fifth gear puts the engine at 2000 RPM at 70mph. Ride was really nice and lot of room to spread out in the middle seats and take a snooze. Haven't made up my mind yet on the stereo.

Does anyone know how to get a hold of Honda?

After visiting and talking to various dealerships on the net, by fax and by email, I ordered a 2002 MB EXL-NAV on July 6 at a local dealership. I was told that I would get the van no later than October, but probably in September, 2001. The dealership informed my a few weeks ago that the order had gone in for October production and I should have the van anywhere between October 15 and November 10 (did not talk about the possibility of September, now that I had given my deposit and ordered the van through them!).

I just got a call saying that Honda had changed the order without informing the dealership why (they say this is the first time they have had this happen since 1999, when the current method of ordering Odysseys came into being) - they have got an allocation for a MB EX without leather or the Nav!

This is terrible especially since I sold my previous van 2 months ago. The dealer says they have talked to Honda's regional rep and others but have not come up with any answer on why this happened. They also do not know if they order again for November production if the same thing will happen! I believe this is a good dealership but am without words to express my disgust at Honda.

Has anyone heard of something similar? Any recommendations on what I can do (besides get a different vehicle, which I am now considering)?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

    Fellow Odyssey Lovers,
I was happy to make a trip from Tidewater Central KY and average 26 mpg for the trip. I just wish I had more power climbing those long WV grades. Hopefully the more powerful '02 will climb those mountains better.
I am looking for a trip computer to add on my '99LX. Does anyone know where I could locate one at a resonable price?
    Thank you for your inputs.

I have a '00 EX with 28,500 miles and want to purchase an extended warranty now that end of factory warranty is near. I was quoted roughly $1000 for 6 yr 100,000 mile by two dealers in the area. When i was researching my purchase two years ago i recall someone pointing to some delaers selling extended warranties for less than others even if it was long distance and as long as van was still under factory warr. Does anyone have experience with a late purchase of extended warranty on EX? TY

Their explanation doesn't sound reasonable to me.
You might try the Honda's Customer Relations
office 1-800-999-1009. They might be able to assist you in contacting the appropriate department. Also, since they already stated they talked to Hondas Regional Rep. You might call
another Dealer in your area and request the
regional Rep's number. Advise them you have a
complaint against ANOTHER dealer (not them)
and thought they should have the same Rep.
    I hope this helps. jrm2002

I hope my memory serves me correctly, but check out postings around July... I was looking for the same info. around that time and found a post with a low price for a warranty if you have over 24 months/24,000 miles on your van (I have not reached that point yet, but will very soon). I hope this helps... at least it narrows it down a bit for you.

Sounds to me like the dealer is trying to pull a fast one on you. Obviously, I cannot tell you for sure, but this sounds very suspicious. Doubt highly Honda would undermine a dealer - in my experience (and that of many other posters) when shananigans occur it is the dealer's profit margin speaking and not Honda factory.
If you call Honda, dealer may think you are undermining them and this may permanently upset them, dealing with them may then become a dead end (not just a 1 or 2 month delay). However, if you are getting no where, then you may have to deal w/ Honda. My advice is to first call the dealership manager/owner. If you cannot (or have already) spoken to the highest up, then write him/her a letter. If still no dice, then write to Honda and cc the dealer. I find no utility in calling and there is no record. If you cc the dealership AND salesman, they may not think you are trying to undermnine them and they will be on board every step of the way. Be cordial, concise, but firm.
You may also hit the road and see if you can get lucky at another local dealer. Maybe someone cancelled their order when their $26k was in a DJIA-linked mutual fund?
    Good luck.
ps - My wife and I find that for our 3 kids, 2 bikes with my one pulling a 2-kid trailer and one bike/tandem set up can get us just aboue anywhere in any weather. You may want to try it until your ship (er - Odyssey) comes in.

Uh, patience??? How about being a member of an affiliated group that's located in DC, MD, or VA?

This "service" is obviously subsidized by employers and credit unions and is offered as a benefit to employees and members thereof. Basically, it's utterly worthless to the vast majority of prospective buyers on this board.

    But, gee, thanks anyway.

That's a Canadian car. No US warranty and it'll be tough to resell or trade.

Is the extra $2500-$3000 worth it? My wife and I love the Odyssey, but money is a little on the tight side. Certainly power side doors, security system, remote entry, power driver seats are nice to have, but I'm really struggling whether to bite the bullet and go with the EX.

I finally found my list of bookmarks on discounted warranties from July - #2597 & 2659 (NY), #2591 (NJ), #2590 (TN).

My 2 year anniversary is on 10/1, so I'll need to get one before then to avoid the 'penalty' for cars over 2 years old.

    ukrich:

    Here is my 2 cents.

Go with EX, I had the same concern EX vs LX before I purchsed my 01 EX. You will appreciate all the nice things on EX, you will use them everyday. This is the first power sliding door I ever have. The whole family love the power sliding door. Love the remote entry, no scratch at key hole anymore. If you get a LX, you will still get a security system and remote entry, which will cost you $300-500 bucks. I like alloy wheel, not just look better, also I don't have to buy any wheel cover in the future. Also CD vs Cassette .....
If you purchase items separate it will cost you more than buying an EX.

For $3000 more now you can 6.5% for 60 months is about $59 more per month.
  • jleeyapjleeyap Member Posts: 4
I read your message and am faced with the same problem but I finally ordered an LX. I kept my last van for about 11 years so the resale value difference would be minimal in my opinion. I will have a keyless entry and CD player installed. Honda will charge about $760 for both of these. I do want the cassette player for audiobooks that I borrow from the library. The price difference between the LX and EX at my dealer is about $2500. My old van did not have power doors, power seats or even airbags! But I figured that the price difference over 10 years will still be almost $4000 and perhaps better if the stock market comes out of its doldrums. But whatever you decide I think we are all going to get a great van!
