2013 and Earlier - Toyota Camry Prices Paid and Buying Experience
tonysgirl...did you have to order the car or drive off the lot? what kind of delivery time did they tell you? I ordered an SE but it had NAV, apparently that is a big cause for delay of delivery.
I'm curious to here about any other delivery times for SE's with options.
I could not even get to test drive a 07 Camry in indianapolis area. What the deal with that? None available. Checked all trims. I dont know if they are not interested since there is heavy demand.
He was giving me a used 06 camry to testdrive. Just walked out.
I could not even get to test drive a 07 Camry in indianapolis area I'm surprised they didn't have something. The dealers around here are now having a decent supply of non-TCH models. Then again it seems like they get an alottment that moves quickly and then they sit for several weeks w/o any on the lots. They will eventually catch up supply with demand.
I don't consider this the same car as the 06 model so I don't see why they'd even offer that as an alternative
Anyone have any idea why I can't preference the following :confuse: ?: LE V6 (2552) Magnetic Gray, Bisque, sunroof (SR) and aluminum wheels (AW).
I gave the dealer a deposit early June and they finally come back end of July saying they can't preference and they think it's because of the aluminum wheels. Really want the car with this configuration. I read a post here somewhere that said AW can be preferenced only if the car is loaded. I asked the dealer to try again with JBL and/or VSC. Does this make sense, is this because I live in the Northeast, is the dealer incompetent?? (last one's rhetorical)
I'm trying to decide if I should get my deposit back, change my stubborn position or go without the rims
Man you should call our Dealer, they have a ton of them on the lot. The only ones they don't seem to have a lot of is the xle with nav. But they have probably 25-30 sitting there just today, when I stopped in.
Hi grapesmuggler, We went thru Costco and called several dealers. The one we ended up with actually had the color combo with the options I wanted on order with a delivery date of 7/25. I guess we just lucked out. Another dealer told me 3-4 weeks to locate the white/dark charcoal we wanted. We picked it up last night and I love it! Hope this helps!
I think that NAV is what is going to hold this thing up. I'm in sales, and always in new cities. I'm sick of being lost. I guess it will be worth the wait.
I hope you enjoy your car. I'm sure I will too...in a couple months that is.
Bsically put on all options avaliable (I think)for LE. JBL, Alloy Wheel, Moonroof, VSC, Cargo&first aid, Mats, Owner's Portfollio, First Aid, Door edgeguard, Wheel lock, Pinstripe. Don't like the preferred package/appearance package, but it was already on the car so we had no choice. The first time I saw it, my wife and I fell in love with it immediately, but then the dealer told us someone else was buying it. So the next day when dealer called and told me that guy didn't come, we just went over and paid downpayment and drove it away. MSRP $27479
Thanks for the info. Can you give some details as to what kind of options you get along with the price? I've been emailing/calling/visiting many dealers around Boston and didn't have any luck. They all tell me if I want VSC it will be a special order i.e. 2-3 months at MSRP. One thing makes me wonder is according to buyatoyota.com, VSC is now available in NE, which wasn't the case 2 weeks ago.
Can you tell me which dealership this was? Also what kind of options and total MSRP? I'm looking for a SE V6 with VSC in Boston area but it seems impossible.
I've been comparing invoice price from edmunds.com to that from dealers including options. It looks to me that the dealer invoice number is always higher (as much as $600). Does any one had similar experience?
The invoice price does not include any fees that may be charged by the manufacturer to dealers in a particular area of the country, such as local advertising fees. Edmunds.com does not track or provide such local fees.
If an advertising fee appears on the invoice, it is an actual cost that the dealer paid to the manufacturer when buying the vehicle. In other cases dealers may choose to write in their own ad fees on the consumer sales contract. However, in either case these advertising fees are just one example of the dealer's cost of doing business. As with all such dealer-itemized fees, consumers should treat as "negotiable" any advertising fee they are asked to pay.
Many consumers attempt to determine the dealer's "actual cost" for a vehicle and then "allow" for the dealer to make some profit. However, the invoice price is almost always higher than the amount the dealer actually ends up paying to the manufacturer. This results from a variety of discounts offered to the dealer that do not appear on the invoice. The two most common discounts are "dealer holdback," and "manufacturer-to-dealer cash" - both of which are available on Edmunds.com - but there are often others that are not generally known and that are based on other factors (for example, the dealer's sales volume for a particular month).
Accordingly, determining the dealer's actual net cost is difficult even for seasoned automotive insiders. This is why we developed the Edmunds.com True Market Value® (TMV®) pricing system, which is our determination of what other consumers are actually paying for the vehicle. The TMV® accounts for the effect of all of the manufacturer's extra charges as well as the dealer's hidden subsidies, and we believe it is the most important price to know when negotiating your purchase.
Wow, so you must work fo edmunds.com Good. I've always wanted to ask how you guys come up with TMV. Do you survey recent car buyers in the region to come up with those numbers?
I have a purchased a '07 Camry LE 4Auto and have heard that there are Toyota dealers out there offering deep discounts on the platinum extended warranty. Please advise. Thanks.
How can I get them to come down to this on the 2007 Camry? They are so popular right now that the dealers are selling them off the trucks before they even get to the lot. I haven't had any luck getting them to come down much. The Camry I am getting is going to have to be ordered. LE 4 cyl. manual trans. so how can I get the invoice price for this? I appreciate your help! I have been screwed over too many times by car deals. I don't want this to be the same. Thanks!
Hey jpfive. I am in the houston area also and just starting the process to get the new camry. I will be looking to purchase the LE 4cyl. Have you gotten a good price on the vehicle and if so, what dealership are you working with?
Did you have to finance through Toyota to get this discount?
Yes.. has to be financed thru Toyota, but I paid off my loan after 2 payments. hehe..
Many credit unions offer auto re-financing with no fees, and better interest rates than the manufacturers finance arm.
Unless there is a specific low interest rate as an incentive thru the manufacturer, I bet credit unions will beat them most of the time.
Many folks don't realize they are eligible to become members of credit unions....some just require you to be a resident of the city or county they are in.
Ok. I didn't think about doing that! I will go ahead and check with my credit unions and see what the refinance rate is in advance. I actually belong to 2 credit unions. Thanks for the info!
Have to check all -- ONLY -- sure way to compare 'apples' is MSRP value and then discount the heck out of it -- comparing with some average of the so called 'dealer's invoice'
I had to finance thru Toyota Financial to get the college rebate. Toyota Financial gave me a 6.2% APR for 48 months. I'm sure I can get a better rate if I refinance, but I just can't find it. I checked eloan.com etc What kind of rates did u guys get? I'm in Milwaukee, WI.
In June I got a 5.9% loan over 48 mos. thru State Farm Bank, a subsidiary of the insurance company. Toyota Credit couldn't match this. Check them out, I don't think you need to be a policyholder to qualify and the application process was very quick and easy (there was a small application fee).
With regard to the pricing of the regular '07 Camry. Most dealers will ask for invoice. However, you need to look in the papers or with the dealer that does the most volume in your area. The have what are called "ad" cars that are loss leaders just to get you on the lot. With dealers that do higher volume, they get better discounts off invoice from Toyota and would more likely give you a discount to bring you closer to invoice. If you don't like the hassel or negotiating, have a costco membership and would be happy with something like $500 above invoice then costco auto buying program is the way to go. They a even giving a small discount on the hybrids. With regard to the college graduate discount, definitely go for it and then refi with your credit union or bank. Capital one is oferring a 5.9% for their platinum customers and my credit union has gone as low as 4.99%. It just takes some leg work and since you already have a loan with toyota you have time to search for the ideal situation.

This term may confuse some. Invoice usually refers to the paper the dealer hides that says what they pay for the vehicle, that is it's cost (ignoring dealer hold back). The "list" price or MSRP, Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price is the "sticker" price and should be printed and stuck on the window. Beware dealers that stick additional options on a seperate sticker and add that to the "sticker". Those are not from the factory option, but still are in some cases legitimate items. If's it's simply "Market Adjustment" it's BS and can be negotiated away.
Now for your comment, most dealers were asking "sticker" (I believe that is what you possibly meant to say) or MSRP for the Camry when it first came out. Most all are discounting heavily all but the Hybrid and I understand also the loaded SEV6's somewhat
You may include the dealership name, city and state in your post. Please do not post names of salespeople, telephone numbers, email addresses, or other contact information.
hi all, I am new to this forum. I bought a camry yesterday..deposited $500. The delivery time is between 2-6 weeks. But they said I will probably get it after 2 weeks. After going to a few dealers in NJ, I went to Hackensack toyota. They said they acept these AAA, costco buying programs. According to AAA progam, it is 3% above the invoice, which came to $581. I said I won't pay it. Later, they came down to $400 above invoice. That was the price. Later what surprised me is the registration fees ($222), documentation fee ($149) and vehicle glass etch ($169). Did you all paid for these? $222 for registration seems high.
I asked for the college rebate, they said that I need to finance through toyota for that. I asked if there is any minimum number of payments for that, they answered "yes, minimum 6 months".
Later, they said that the camry does not come with the vehicle security systems, I need to buy it separately. It will cost me $695 with the dealer, and if I install lo jack , then it is $695 for lo jack vehicle recovery, $300 for early earning and if I get these two, then $150 for car security.
Guys, from these information, could you please share with me your suggestions about these costs, specially the college rebate and vehicle security.
Vehicle glass etching is a dealer scam. Don't pay for this. As far as the other fees, find out what your state department of transportation standard fees are to make sure the dealer isn't adding to them. Tax, title, and registration are standard fees that vary by state, but some dealers try to add in their own fees.
As far as security goes, I've had after-market car alarm systems installed in my 2000 Camry and 2004 Odyssey (one by Best Buy, one by Circuit City), and the cost was around $150-$200 installed. Buying any accessories from the dealer and/or having the dealer install parts is generally going to be more expensive than getting them somewhere else and having them installed.
I noticed that Costco has Camry Hybrid pricing now. I placed a quote request and I received a prompt response. The deal is that the dealer will give $100 off MSRP for a TCH.
Thanks for the clarification on the sticker vs. invoice and I did mean that dealers are asking for sticker. But definitely check the papers. There are numerous deals in SoCal for the 4 cyl and V6 versions of the car. The only one that you can absolutely not get a deal on is the Hybrid.
As for Toyota of San Bernardino, my recommendation is not do deal with them unless you have a written quote from them. They tried the bait and switch with my mother-in-law's 2002 Camry. We ended up going to Crown. I believe the best bets for selection in our area is Crown and Longo. The other dealership that is very polite and does not push you to make a decision right then is Glendora or Redlands. The other high pressure sales dealer in the area is Claremont - very bad experience there.
As for the Costco Pricing on the TCH, mine in SoCal was also $100 below MSRP. - Better than some dealers charging a markup.

I pay from below dealer invoice to $300 above invoice depending on how popular the model is.
Always have, always will.
