HomeLink system of my van stopped working when I programmed my new car's HomeLink system. Not sure if it is an coincidence or what?

    Any ideas? Thanks
  • kimo9kimo9 Member Posts: 71
thanks for the idea......tried it this morning but no luck.......
It almost sounds like there is a bearing out in one of the pulley (if there are any), but the fact that the sound stops after a few minutes puts a damper on that theory.

Also, are the stock tires on the Odyssey "Directional" or "Unidirectional". I'll be rotating tires soon and want to confirm.

    Thanks everyone.
  • fibber2fibber2 Member Posts: 3,786
(EX tire) is unidirectional - you can cross rotate if you like.

I have a 15' slope of about 100 feet (driveway is about 500 ft total) at the beginning of the run. Snow tires make all the difference. And I have turned off the traction control if it starts to bog it down.

but nobody responded. '02 EX. Does anybody know where the fuel filter is?? I followed the fuel lines up the firewall and to the fuel rails under the plastic shroud (mirror & flashlight), but don't see anything that looks like a filter. Maybe back by the tank?

I have an '04 LX (not EX). Do they both have the same unidirectional tire?
  • tcasboytcasboy Member Posts: 214
I'm pretty sure the LX comes with different tires than the EX for 2004. If the tires are unidirectional they will have an arrow on the outer sidewall depicting the proper direction of rotation. If they have the arrow, just rotate front to rear, otherwise I guess it would be ok to cross them up.

It is inside the fuel tank, part of the fuel pump assymbly

'00 LX w/ 119,000 miles. We're flatlanders but took the Odyssey on its first trip through the mountains last month. Cruise set @ 65-75 on steep uphill grades and the cruise control would refuse to downshift/ dip into throttle more, resulting in 15-25mph loss. Once I floorboarded it, the van would rocket back up to speed. About 25% of the time, cruise did its job correctly and maintained my speed on these grades. Very frustrating! Any ideas? BTW, love the van, no prob's. Having timing belt and water pump done today- $625.

I found an exploded diagram of the fuel system on line, and came to that conclusion yesterday. Actually looks like there are two filters in there?
So I assume that this is now considered a 'life of the vehicle' item, and that nobody changes them unless there is a real problem???

I recently purchased a 02 Oddssey which came with Homelink system. Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to program the garage door opener(Brand:Craftsman)? Thanks a lot. (Email: bluemax0@hotmail.com)

Yes indeed, I too shrugged my shoulders when I was left stranded on a marginally steep hill during rush hour traffic with a slight amount of snow. I knew the symmetry tires were not going to do for the winter but I thought my new Pirelli Cinturato P3000 M+S tires would suffice but they didn't do much better. Saw the light and bought Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice (due to our winter road conditions) and a spare set of used alloys. Smooth winter driving ever since.

I own a 2004 EX ODY. with 4300 miles. It has a suspension rattle in only the right front when that wheel goes over a rough section of road. I have brought it into the dealer and they cannot find a problem with it. However when the left wheel goes over the same type of surface, it sounds normal. Anybody else had this type of problem? Any help would be appreciated!
  • tcasboytcasboy Member Posts: 214
I had a similar problem with the left front strut of my 2000 LX. I had the strut replaced under warranty at about 25K miles, and the sound went away for about a year. Then the car started making a worse noise from the left front area when going over bumps at about 45K miles. I never could figure out what the noise was, it seemed worse in colder weather, but it wasn't consistent. I had the car appraised for trade at 3 dealers and to sell to CarMax and none of them mentioned the noise. I don't know if its common, but it bugged me like crazy. Our new 04 EX-L is also loud on bumps, but it doesn't sound like its going to fall apart.

I think the dealer can rig up a microphone to determine where the sound is coming from if they want to take the time. Sounds like your dealer isn't willing to do so, might be a good idea to try another one. I would continue to press the case however because the suspension shouldn't rattle over every bump, especially only one side.

    Best of luck.

Its time to replace the Michelin Symmetry on our 2000 Ody (44k miles). I was ready to buy another set, but the Hydroedge intrigues me. Price difference isn't much, but my main concern is road noise. Anyone have any experience with these?

FWIW: i brought our new LX into the dealership for a driver's side rattle with only a few hundred miles on the car.

during the process of a test drive with a very proficient mech rep, he driving, me in the front passenger seat, he quickly diagnosed the driver's side rattle as the hood release cable moving...

during the ride, he also picked out and brought my attention to a very faint right-front-side rattle, which you could only hear when going over bumps. I could barely hear it but i told him that yes, when I was driving, sometimes I could hear it too.

i got the car back a few hours later with both rattles solved.

the driver's side was the hood release cable. the right-side rattle was something with the strut/strut-tower interface. they dis-assembled, applied some lubricant and re-assembled and that noise was gone. he said it was something he'd seen (and heard) before.

    regards.

the dealer tells me that there are 6 codes, 1 for each ignition module, they called Honda since they had never seen all 6 go at once. Honda did not have a ready solution so they sent me home. They light has since come back several times. The codes showed up during a vehicle inspection as well. Has anyone seen this?

We have the 100k, no deductible hondacare warranty. I told them to just fix it but they say that honda has not determined what to fix. The 00' Ody Ex Navi only had 51k miles on it.

I have had this problem with my Honda Ody 03 for the past 6 months. The sound has gotten progressively worse over the last month or so. It would happen while driving at all speeds, whether foot was on gas or brake. It was a sizzle, rattle or bag blowing in the wind noise coming from the front wheel area or very close to it. It took two visits to the honda dealer for them to even hear it even though I have had passengers say they hear it sitting next to me and behind me loudly. Finally, they agreed that I was hearing an issue covered under service bulletin 02-145 http://www.honda-pilot.org/images/1.pdf
and that my VIN was in that batch affected. My dealer said that I was the first van that they did under that service bulletin and they had my car all day saying it was a bear to do. So far, i have not driven the car since it was done today, but I will be listening for the sound. So have your dealer check your VIN against that bulletin. Happy to help!

I got a MIL code 35 which I found out means FPDTR signal line
failure. Any one know what FPDTR means?
    auburn63?
  • auburn63auburn63 Member Posts: 1,162
Usally all 6 cylynders means dirty or clogged fuel injectors, I would pull one or two out and check. There are other things it could be but I would start there...Sometimes if the person with the scanner looks at the LT/ST fuel trim they can see evidence of this by abnormal readings..

    jnash2
Typically we clear this code and see if it returns as stand alone code. This is a communication code bettween computers and sometimes when a code is set on the ECM it interfers...
  • jnash2jnash2 Member Posts: 31
Thanks auburn63. I did clear that code yesterday morning and it hasn't come back yet. I was interested in your explanation of what it was, but you trailed off there. I'd still be interested. Thanks again.
  • auburn63auburn63 Member Posts: 1,162
To get more specific I need to know the year, trim level, and with or without TCS. Also if there was a P/code or not. Most of the time the ECM gets a P/code for something and then the other computers loose the communication line and give their own codes such as a ABS code 35..When the ABS or even TCS control unit shows the code on its own the problem can be anywhere in the system so the entire system has to be diagnosed..
  • jnash2jnash2 Member Posts: 31
I have an 02ex with tcs. Sorry I don't know what P/code means. I found out how to jumper the service connector (the plug with 8 over 8 holes that is under the dash and above the gas pedal) with a small peice of wire. When I did that, the MIL flashed 3 long 5 short. Then someone told me what the Helms said 35 is. (FPDTR signal line
failure)The ABS or TCS control lights never flashed codes on their own, if that's what you are asking. I guess I am in over my head here with my little peice of wire and no Helms of my own. I pulled fuse 13 to clear the 35 code. Now when I jumper the service connector the MIL comes on steady. Would you suggest having my dealer check this? I don't know if he can, since it hasn't come back. Or should I chalk it up to a one time thing?
  • auburn63auburn63 Member Posts: 1,162
Since the light has not yet come back on then it was probably be an intermittent failure, with the system being OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the ABS/TCS control unit and the PCM.If the light stays off then I wouldnt worry too much about it until the light came back on if it ever does. If the problem was a hard code(meaning you clear the code and then it returns right away) you would then diag the abs/tcs control unit and the pcm/ecm, as well as the wires and connectors involved..I dont think there is a need to go to the dealer or anyone else until the light comes on again so I would just chalk it up for now..Good luck

The passenger side sliding door (manual) has developed a roller problem. Especially while closing, the door "sticks" wobbles and makes noise. The hinge that holds the rollers (in the middle) has developed a lot of play!, which is absent in the driver side door. Is this considered as normal wear and tear? Honda dealer is asking $42 for the part and 1 hr of labor to put it in! I think it is not fair for Honda to charge for obvious defects. Any advice?
  • hogboyhogboy Member Posts: 84
I guess you haven't owned an American vehicle in awhile. IMHO I would just get it fixed and be done with it. If this is the worst thing you have had happen since you owned the vehicle and it is going on 5 years old I wouldn't be complaining other than the inconveniece of tying up the vehicle at the dealer for the day.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
A big difference between normal wear and tear and a "obvious defect".

A lot of this has to do with the amount of usage. Do kids constantly slam the sliding door?

Just part of owning a car...things wear out, even on Hondas.

I have an '04 LX Ody with less than 1K mi on it. Ever since I bought it, there has been a rattling sound from front right dashboard area - its more a creaking sound (almost like old floorboards). It doesn't matter whether the car is driven over a rough surface or not - sometimes just taking foot off the gas on the freeway will cause this noise. Any ideas? Thx in advance.
  • rockycow33rockycow33 Member Posts: 76
Try putting a thin piece of cardboard or plastic between the glass and dashboard to see if it is coming from that area. If it is honda has some kind of material they can put in to stop the squeek
  • shekharshekhar Member Posts: 23
    hogboy, isellhonda....your point well taken.
Had the rollers replaced @ the dealer for part + 30min labor. Reached 5 min before opening time so did not have to wait for the service. Not a bad experience.
Kids (15 and 12y) are extremely well behaved....they have never slammed doors. For the privilege of riding in the van they keep it clean, inside and out.
  • hogboyhogboy Member Posts: 84
We have a '04 EX and ours is also doing the same thing, more of a rubbing sound coming from the middle of the dash. I think I will let the dealer try to figure this one out when it goes in for the 3k initial service. Smooth road, rough road, doesn't make any difference on ours either.
  • desertkevdesertkev Member Posts: 76
We have an '02....and just started getting similar problems....and we have a 2 year old.....and it is happening on both sides of the vehicle....and we mostly use the driver side slider. I will take to the dealer and they WILL fix it. I will let you know.
  • kimo9kimo9 Member Posts: 71
I take my foot of the brake and slowly initiate acceleration. There is some kind of "thud" --- sounds almost like the brakes are releasing.......... normal?

Also, my 04 Ody LX had the rattling in the right front too......since the weather has warmed up its not been a problem.
  • camuelcamuel Member Posts: 1
I have the same problem with my 2000 model.

Have you received any information regarding the root cause?
  • beauprebeaupre Member Posts: 4
I had the same problem with 2001 Ody. Mine was due to broken Power Steering Pressure Switch wire. The Odyssey idle problem seems to be related to 2 major categories. If no Check Engine Light, as it was in my case, then probably due to power steering wiring related. If check engine light then probably related to engine vacuum or EGR valve.

I don't have a clue as to why the power steering switch wire will break since the wire/switch is down and behind passenger side front tire, not accessible by most users. If the wire is too short then it is a design defect which I should not have to pay for repairs. A Honda dealer charged me 3 hours of labor for rewirng. What a bunch of BS.
  • soccermomsoccermom Member Posts: 2
I own a 2001 Odyssey that started with the same problem they thought it might be the EGR valve, however it turned out to be a bigger problem ,it now has a new transmission. I would not have known about this problem had I not asked the dealership to hook it up to the computer they found it was the tranny. Honda stood behind it and I am one happy Oddy owner again. Best of luck to you.

    here's my problem
my wife has a 2002 odyssey with 40,000 miles on it
the speedometer broke and my mechanic says he located a speedometer with 86,000 miles on it
my question is if I have him put the speedometer in will I end up with 86,000 miles on the van
my mechanic says he doesn't know if the memory is in the computer or the head

Take it to a Honda dealer to have looked at.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Odometers can be legally reset (not to mention that tools are available on eBay for the felonious d-i-y'er!).

A reputable mechanic or dealer could reset the replacement odometer and provide an affidavit or other form to DMV to verify that the replacement odometer is showing actual miles. Or maybe the receipts showing the work done would be enough.

Here's what one state says about replacing odometer's and resetting the miles:

    Wisconsin DOT (.pdf file)

In Florida it looks like your signature on the odometer form is sufficient:

    link (another .pdf)

So check with your local DMV.

If you go to your dealer it is possible they could warranty it for you even though you are out of warranty techniclly. If they say no I would maybe take it a step or two further by speaking with the rep or calling American Honda. 40K is not alot of miles and a bad speedometer is rare..There is a possibility it is a bad speed sensor wire even...Good luck

I am having a problem with my 2003 Odyssey LX. On a sunny day it gets really hot in the front seat. The sun beats down on the driver and passendger to the point of discomfort unless the AC is cranked, and then the passengers in the back complain that it is too cold, even with the separate AC controls.
I went back to the specs on the honda website and noticed that the LX does not have the "heat resistant glass" that comes with the EX. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I figure that I can have the windows tinted by the dealer or have the EX windows installed on the LX. Any idea how much this would cost.
    Thanks in advance

lboule wrote about a similar issue a couple of years ago and I couldn't find any response to the post.

I just purchased a 2004 EX and had never owned a van before. I'm not sure whether this is a common problem for vans. I noticed a vibration when riding in the middle row. I don't feel it when driving. It's very noticeably shaking only in the middle seats.
Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Anyone found a place to hide a spare key. I know this is not a question to ask online but my wife has already locked herself out and I can not find a place to stick a spare key! Too much plastic for a magnetic key holder I would also like to know if anyone has had their lights rewired to work as daytime running lights. If so what did it cost?
  • uj01uj01 Member Posts: 3
I also noticed the vibration when riding in the 3rd row. Therefore, to summarize, I feel the vibration when riding in the 2nd and 3rd row seats even on smooth asphalt road. It vibrated so much that I got a headache! Anyone noticed this with your Odyssey?

Just bought an 04 LX and am questioning my choice. I have now driven it 155 miles. At 35 miles I brought it to the dealer to check on a thumping sound when braking, they changed brake shims. It was better until I filled it up with gas and the sound is back. I've decided it's the gas sloshing back and forth in the tank that I'm hearing(evidently much worse when tank is full). Is this normal? I can't say I've ever heard this in any car I've previously driven! My wife is already saying we should sell it and buy a Highlander as originally planned. Help!
  • Karen_SKaren_S Member Posts: 5,092
That seems to be rather prevalent in the Odyssey. It bothers some people, others not so much. Enter "gas sloshing" in "search this discussion" to read other owners comments concerning this issue.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Definitely gas sloshing. After a couple of weeks, you'll get used to it and it will disappear.

    Good Luck.

Put this information under the category of "could come in handy to know" when dealing with an inoperable power door.

We have a 2001 Odyssey EX. For the first time ever, the driver-side power door failed to operate. I was concerned, but I kept my cool and flipped through the owner's manual rather than immediately going to a dealer.

I removed and checked the fuse (stashed away inside the wall on the passenger side); it looked fine. Nevertheless, I put in a new fuse (which Honda kindly provides in the fuse box under the hood). Bingo, the door worked! I decided to put the original fuse back in; the door still worked.

So, before you consider replacing a motor or some other item with respect to an inoperable power door, check the fuse first :-).

(Why the original fuse worked after I put it back in is a mystery. Maybe it became loose somehow, and therefore the power door failed? And, then when I placed it back in, it was properly secure?)

My 04 Ody EX-L RES came with the privacy glass. Privacy glass doesn't block out as much heat as you think it would. My van was very hot even with the privacy glass on all the rear windows. The heat resistant glass helps but not much. I think tinting your windows is the economic way to go. I had limo tint installed on all rear windows even though they already had the privacy glass. My leather seats are always on the cool side to the touch. My two year old doesn't fall asleep due to the sun beating down on her anymore, DVD's look better too. I also had a light shade of tint installed on both the driver and passenger windows also. The EX also has climate control so that you can regulate the interior temp. I was told that the privacy glass is just black glass and that it doesn't do much in terms of blocking out heat. Before tinting the windows my seats were always burning hot on sunny days. I paid $160.00 with a lifetime warranty on my tint job. P.S I recently drove to Arizona from Southern CA and it was a "COOL" ride all the way.
