Recent press release from media.mitsubishicars.com indicate that they could start shipping as early as October. Although I have talked to one of the dealerships near my area (IN), and he hinted they could start receiving it as early as 3rd week of September. AFAIK, Mitsubishi has started test drives with several auto review companies in California, thus, the vehicles are here in the USA already, though might be in limited quantities. I am decided I will get one as soon as it arrives at the dealerships, after a thorough test drive of course. I have been a Mitsubishi owner and have been satisfied with my vehicle. This one will be the second Mitsubishi I'll be owning. Just look at www.ralliart.com and see how Mitsubishi excels in motorsports. The Montero (Pajero) has won the Dakar Rally (www.dakar.com) 6 consecutive times, 10 times total, beating Volkswagen, Ford, Nissan, and BMW. Hummer made an attempt last year with Robby Gordon and it didn't even get to finish half of the grueling race before it broke down, unable to continue. And where can you see Honda and Toyota in these races? They are in the F1 races. Why the ....? we don't drive f1 cars!! Mitsubishi races rally prepared vehicles that are homologated (patterned and designed) from their passenger car line-up. So when Mitsubishi wins in the rallies, WRC or Dakar, the technology gained will be directly injected into passenger car technology. The Lancer Evolution is a very fine example of that...

It's about 10 pages, spiral bound. I don't see much new in it, although the trip computer appears to contain the gas gauge, temperature gauge, as well as service reminders.

The attached letter give no date, just "this fall."

    :shades:
  • rcpaxrcpax Member Posts: 580
I actually have two of those :) Well, in the US, fall starts this Thursday, Spetember 21. So it means, "any day now". The dealerships in my area should get it by the end of the week. And the dealerships usually get it first for a week or two before it gets announced in their websites.

As for things new for 07: a lot of things:
    >bigger engine 3.0L V6 MIVEC, much more horses under the hood
    >bigger cabin space
    >more seating options
    >flap-fold tailgate
    >new HDD based navi system
    >6 speed gearbox, sportronics mode or auto
    >paddle shifters in xls for those want to drive semi-manual (I do), for other models, you can do it via stickshift
    >ASC, auto skid control, to help you navigate slippery winter roads, covered in ice or snow. this feature not much discussed.
    >safety improved a lot, side airbags up to 2nd row seats, dual 2 stage front air bags
    >2wd, 4wd, and auto 4wd modes
    >keyless entry
    >standard tire pressure monitoring across all models
    >and of course as you've mentioned, the all new dash display, almost similar to what rally drivers get.
... and that's just about a few of the notable changes

now compare that to other small SUVs and see if you can get the same features for the same price.

Also try to look at their warranty and compare. ;)

Is there any word on pricing or do we have to wait for the website updates for that?

If it's significantly cheaper than the RAV4, I'll probably go for the Outlander.
  • rcpaxrcpax Member Posts: 580
Mitsubishi has just released the pricing for the 07 Endeavor at 28.9K$ for the Special Edition (06 Endeavor Limited Edition AWD priced at 32.2K$). Currently the Outlander 06 Limited Ed is priced at 25.9K$, the highest priced trim. It wouldn't make sense for Mitsubishi to sell the 07 model at a price significantly more expensive than what it replaces. Estimates ranges from the basic trims to be priced below 20K$ and the XLS trim below 29K$ with all options included. The v6 4wd RAV Limited edition with options somewhat similar to what the Outlander 07 xls offers would run at around 30.2K$. but of course we still have to wait for the official pricing to be announced, and you will see it here posted, since I too am watching out for that. And since we're talking here of MSRP, you can always get the vehicle at a lesser price from dealers if you know how to deal correctly. And RAV4s are so in demand, I don't think you can bargain much, but the good thing about the Outlander, the previous model didn't sell that well, chances are you can bargain for a good price from the dealers. And just my 2cents, Mitsubishi wouldn't really want to price it high since it want to establish its market first. So that means volumes first before profit.

So 07 Outlander pricing is cheaper by about 2-3K$ by estimates. Lets now look at what kind of warranty Toyota is willing to give you. For a new RAV4 07: Basic-36mo/36,000 miles, powertrain-60mo/60,000 miles, rust through- 60mo/unlimited miles
For the new 07 Outlander: Basic-60mo/60,000 miles, Powertrain-120mo(10yrs)/100,000miles, rust through-84mos (7yrs)/100,000miles. Plus 60mos(5yrs)/unlimited miles Roadside assistance.

So I guess that'll help you decide which is a better choice. :D And don't be swayed by other people's opinion about Mitsubishi. The Outlander 07 is the no.1 SUV in Japan. Read here: http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm/newsid/2060421.002/country/jc- f/Mitsubishi/new-mitsubishi-outlander-japan's-best-selling-suv (copy and paste to browser)

And as further proof of its success, PSA Peugeot and Citroen will have SUVs based on the Outlander 07, manufactured by Mitsubishi by OEM contract, for the Europe market.

Anyone know if the front screen will play DVD's?? I know for safety reason this is kept out alot but sometimes they provide a work around for it. Just wondering...this is kind of a big deal to me if I was to buy the Navi system.
  • rcpaxrcpax Member Posts: 580
Yes you definitely can. DVD movie supported. And the 30GB HDD acts as music server. It downloads yous CDs as music files. ;)

There's a few things that may help to reduce the noises. (At least these have worked for me):
    1) Change the tires. Stock tires are too hard and bounce off the pavement exaggeratedly promoting break pad rattles. I now have Good Year tires which have much better road feel and softer manners (and being wider... look much better to!). You may buy any brand you prefer but... stay away from steel belted tires!!!
    2) Change brake pads AND clips. Buy pads that come with metal shims that are glued to each pad (shims are chromed and have a peel off label to expose the adhesive), you just press the shim and pad together.
    3) When installing brake pads use brake pad grease in all metal to metal contact areas (caliper, clip/pad contacts, etc).

I bought the brake clips set at a local Mopar store (these are original manufacturer - OEM).
I bought tires and pads at Western Auto store, where you may also find the break grease. It comes in a small black plastic tube for about $1.00, ask for it at the service counter.
Hope these tips helps. I know how anoying it can be.
If someone else had the same problem and different solution please let us know.
    Thanks.

I live in New Zealand. Earlier this year, the first of the 2006 (07) Outlanders arrived here. Our funding criteria put the mid-range model in my sights for a company vehicle, and I am now the driver of a silver XLS.

The new models come to NZ in Japanese spec. They are all 2.4 litre motors with CVT transmission. The XLS get 18” mags, 6 CD stereo and all the other things you would expect. One thing that is missing here though is cruise control. This is a pity because the vehicle needs it. The 2.4 motor is surprisingly powerful and the CVT transmission sensitive to little pressure on the throttle. As a result the speed of the vehicle can go from 110km/h (our legal limit is 100 with a discretion of a further 10 km/h) to 120 or 130 without you even realising.

The handling is quite exceptional. My last company vehicle was a Ford Mondeo which was ranked in handling terms with the Peugeot 406 and Audi A4. The Outlander loses very little in terms of ride and handling in comparison to the Mondeo. I hope the extra weight of the V6 doesn’t affect the level of handling I am enjoying

My vehicle only has 5,000km on it so far so the engine is quite tight still. Fuel consumption is improving and Mitsubishi here reckon the Outlander is good for 8.6l/100km. Sorry about the measures, but you may be able to find a conversion.

The other SUV options were all a bit expensive here in NZ. The Suzuki is too small. The RAV4 wnt up in price dramatically with the new model as did the Hyundai. I am really pleased with the Outlander. It is the sort of vehicle that I find myself making excuses to take it for a drive.
  • njawdrivernjawdriver Member Posts: 23
    FYI - 8.6l/100km = 27.4 mpg
  • rcpaxrcpax Member Posts: 580
good for you guys down NZ. I think not even australia have it yet. the 07 outlander will be out in a month's time here in the US. I would have wanted a 2.4L engine option, but it seems for now the 3.0L is the only option. I hope the Sportronic manual transmission coupled with good driving techniques will give a little plus to the realworld mpg. :)

    Product features: Outlander Concept

    * Outlander Concept sports an eye-catching Red Metallic body finish using silver accent coloring for the grille, roof rails and other elements to give a sporty dash to the overall appearance. The car rides on 20-inch 6-spoke alloy road wheels that give the lower body a tauter look as well as leaving no doubt as to Outlander Concept's on-road SUV personality.
    * The powertrain mates the 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC direct-injection diesel engine that produces maxima of 103 kW and 310 N-m and powers the Europe-market Grandis sedan to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Outlander Concept uses a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet Euro-4 emission standards.
    * The driveline uses an electronically-controlled 4WD system developed from Mitsubishi Motors' All-Wheel Control (AWC) approach to deliver optimum drive torque for any particular situation or driving conditions and realize economy and go-anywhere performance that do justice to an all-round SUV.
    * All-round independent suspension delivers responsive and accurate handling with a pliant ride. The aluminum engine hood, as used on the Lancer Evolution, reduces roll to improve road holding and increase stability.
    * In-car entertainment is provided by the same 650 Watt 9-speaker Rockford Fosgate Premium Sound System™ acoustically tuned to the interior of, and well-received on, the Japan market Outlander.
    * Outlander Concept uses the same split tailgate as the Japan market model with separate upper and lower sections that facilitate loading or unloading of different sizes and weights of luggage. It also uses the same fold-and-tumble second row seats and occasional-use third row seats, normally stowed under the floor, to produce a cavernous luggage compartment or to provide seating for seven as required.

Looks very sporty to me. :D This is the concept car for the European Market. It runs on diesel using a Volkswagen 2.0L engine, manual transmission.

The Mitsubishi North America site has not yet released details as to what color options there is for the 07 Outlander, but the japanese version has a nice selection of colors. I have the link below. The choices of colors will most likely be the same for the american market as could be seen from the media photos taken from california

    Color Selection: http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/outlander/color/index.html

The color variety for the american market can be seen here (though not clearly for some colors) :P

Hi, everyone. As you've probably noticed, we have been trying to refine the discussions into more narrowly focussed topics. Our objective is twofold. We want to make it easier for people seeking specific information about their vehicles to find it easily and without having to wade through hundreds or thousands of postings.

To those ends, we will be shutting down the general make/model discussions and work exclusively with specific issues. This requires us to populate the make/model subsections with relevant, interesting and timely topics. Rather than having the hosts simply create boilerplate topics for each make/model, we feel that you, the owner, the make/model enthusiast and the prospective buyer can best judge what those topics should be.

You can help by adding a discussion (it's easy!) or suggesting one here.

To add a discussion, click on the last link in the "You are here" line at the top of this page. That will take you to the topic page for this make/model. Review the list of topics and click on the "Add discussion" link when you've decided what topic you'd like to add. Follow the directions and you're done! Feel free to add more than one. Just avoid duplicating existing topics and try not to make it TOO specific!

Your help and continued participation in the Forums is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Anyone know if the XLS will have rear seat DVD screen or this is only for LS? I don't see Entertainment Package option on the web side for XLS.
  • beanbagdanbeanbagdan Member Posts: 1
Having just serviced my 04 Outlander XLS and looking to replace it in early 07, the dealer appraoched me very excited about attending the launch the previous evening of the new Outlander due next month.

Referring to the NZ model brochure, apparently the Australian versions will be higher specced and will include a VR and VR-X. More details to follow....
  • matchpointmatchpoint Member Posts: 1
    Are they made in Japan?
  • rcpaxrcpax Member Posts: 580
Made at their Mizushima plant in Japan. This will include all variants of the 07 Outlander sold in the US, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, China and the future Outlander vehicles to be sold in Europe under the brands Mitsubishi Outlander, Peugeot 4007, and Citroen C-Crossover.

Mitsubishi is currently focusing on manufacturing a particular model in their country of origin only, and exports them to various markets. Example: Outlander in Japan, Triton (L200) pickup in Thailand, Eclipse in US.

Does anybody know when crash test results will be available for the new Outlander? I think they already posted them for 07 Santa Fe and 07 CRV.
Also, finally real owners reviews on Edmunds New Cars. Mostly positive.

any way to set up a discussion specifically for the 1st generation Outlander? Maybe for problems and solutions?
  • tidestertidester Member Posts: 10,059
That would be easy enough to do (you could even do it yourself!) but, if I am not mistaken, the first generation Outlander appeared in North America only for the '03 and '04 model years. The second generation started in '05.

My neighbor has a 2005 Outlander with about 34k on it. When he took it in for service he was informed that his 10y/100k mile warranty was negated because he didn't do the 30K ( $800+ ) required scheduled maintenance on the vehicle.
He said he was never informed about the 30K required maintenance and the local Dealer told him it was HIS responsibility to read the contract. He called Mitsubishi and they confirmed what the Dealer told him. So after another 2K he will be on his own. Doesn't sound right to me
  • mikevegas06mikevegas06 Member Posts: 272
Which maintenance schedule is your neighbor on? Regular or Severe? Ask him to check his manual. He's does have to take some responsibility and read through the manual:-) Either way, I think that the 30K maintenance consists of changing the plugs and air filter along with an oil change/tire rotation. From the tone of your message, I assume that he gets all of the maintenance performed at the dealership. If so, then the oil change/tire rotation/brake check, etc. was already done per Mitsu specs. All he has to do is change the plugs and the air filter. It is highly unlikely that any damage occurred because he's 4K overdue for a filter/plug change. Also, the manufacturers are conservative with the maintenance schedules. Tell him not to sweat the minor oversight. Also, I put in platinum tipped plugs when I changed mine so that I wouldn't have to do it every 30K. There's a lot of room in the engine bay so don't be afraid to help your neighbor change the plugs.

Click on "Help" at the bottom, far right of the page. I'd like to separate the discussions into first gen/second gen as well. I'll set it up a first gen discussion if you don't want to.
  • kenymkenym Member Posts: 405
Not sure what you meant by "From the tone of your message". Anyway I haven't talked to him since I posted that 30k warning for Outlander owners. He puts high miles on all his vehicles and I am sure he has all the proper maintenance done. He asked the Dealer if he could have the 30K required maintenance done now and was told no. It is past the fact and is too late. His 10 yr/100k warranty is negated. He called Mitsubishi and was told the same.

Did any of the Outlander owners purchase the paint protection scheme from the Mitsubishi dealer when they bought their car? If so, is there a re-application schedule? My last 2 cars, a Saab and an Infiniti came with such a scheme and the dealer would re-apply the coating every 6 months, but the Mitsubishi dealer said that the coating application was a one time deal and no re-application was needed. Granted that I never actually paid for the scheme directly, as I got the dealer to throw it in to complete the deal (as I did with the Saab), I can't help feel that as the dealer never saw the actual dollars, they are short changing me here.

    Any comments?
  • clutchguy77clutchguy77 Member Posts: 25
Personally I didn't buy it. There were 2 options: a $700 and a $1,000 one. Too expensive considering I've never had ANY paint problems on any of the cars i've owned in my life. This one was a one-time only coating and no further applications were necessary.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
For grins, look up "mop and glow" with the Advanced Search tool on the left. And hang on to your billfold. :shades:
  • polmcspolmcs Member Posts: 27
Oh, the billfold is still in my wallet as I never actually paid for the paint scheme with cash. I had it added in at no cost by the dealer to sweeten the deal. The only time I've actually paid for paint protector is when I bought an Infiniti G35 Coupe. I'd heard horror stories about chipped paint on those models, so I figured that I would cover myself and let the dealer and Infiniti work it out between themselves if the paint had a problem. Also, living in Phoenix, it doesn't do any harm to have any extra protection against the sun!!!

As far as the other add-ins referenced by the notes you mentioned, when I bought the Saab, they sourced it from another garage and it came with paint protection, pin stripes and window VIN etching at a cost of around $1000 for the package. I told the dealer the pin stripe looked horrible and to take it off and I didn't want the VIN etching, so he was free to swap out all the glass :) I think that wore him down enough that they said that they wouldn't charge me for the paint scheme either!
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
VIN etching is free at some police departments, or used to be until everyone figured out that it didn't really help recover stolen cars, or prevent them from being stolen in the first place. I wouldn't pay $5 for it.

Mop and glow often costs $400 and up, and is basically a $20 wax job. Modern paints don't even need wax unless you like the glamour look. I'm in sunny Boise and I rarely wash my cars, much less wax them - but they're aren't Ferraris either. :shades:

I went into my cal dealer this afternoon for a look. I spent about 45 minutes with a salesman who knew the vehicle.
He knew up front that I was just looking and since it was a slow day took his time with me. This was a black XLS with beige interior and had everthing, luxury, nav ,S & S. I thought the interior was nice, not cheap at all, in fact looked very good. Leather was good quality. I have trouble getting in and out of sedans thats why I have a van but it was easy to get in and out of the Outlander. Lots of storage. Witah the power seat full back i saat in the second row in back of the driver and had adequate knee room.
I liked the car. Definitely on top of my list. Ahead of the CR-V now. Just not the time to buy now.

This week bought the 2007 Outlander. This new model has only just reached the Dealers in Canada. My vehicle, one of the first off the car lot.
Have been really pleased with the ride and comfort.
One small problem, very wet around Vancouver the last couple of weeks. Has anybody fitted mud flaps to their vehicle. Cannot find a supplier so far. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyone had rust proofing done on their brand new outties?

I will be getting my 07 on monday.
  • rcpaxrcpax Member Posts: 580
How well does rustproofing work? I heard from CR that it's just gimmick, and that new vehicles today gets better paint treatment that it's almost not necessary to get rustproofing. Does the rustproofing product come with a warranty? Sorry for asking, I just don't have much idea how it works, and my dealer didn't offer it as an option as well. I was also thinking of getting it if it does actually offer added rust protection and indeed rustproof my car literally. I live in NW Indiana and it snows hear, and I know the salt they put on the road is detrimental to the metal parts of the car.
  • growwisegrowwise Member Posts: 296
You are right.. I think I'll pass. Ontario is terrible in terms of salt on roads etc.
  • piastpiast Member Posts: 269
"I heard from CR that it's just gimmick"
You are right here, it is just extra profit for the dealer, same as window etching, fabric protector, paint protectors, etc. In the end you can apply Scotch guard or good wax yourself (same effect) and take your family for a road trip with the money you just saved.
  • dodo2dodo2 Member Posts: 496
I leave in Toronto and indeed our roads are covered in salt during the winter time (my car has a coat of salt on it right now). I think the undercoating helps a little. I had an '89 Acura Legend which had the undercoating done and after so many years the floor was just plain black and virtually no rust. I did the undercoating for my 05 Mazda3 just for the peace of mind. I think I paid some $600 CAD or so. I agree with the other type of "protections" that you mentioned. I wouldn't take any of those.
  • growwisegrowwise Member Posts: 296
600 seems a lot. Where did you get it done? I live in Toronto as well. I am a bit leery on doing it for several reasons. Not sure what it does for moving bits of suspension. Add the 4 wheel drive componentry to the dilemma.

I agree that rustproofing is important in place like Toronto. Too much snow/slush/salt.
  • dodo2dodo2 Member Posts: 496
$600 was for my Mazda3 and I had the dealer spray the car before delivery. I think they used a third-party company. They gave me a certificate for 10 years warranty. I'm supposed to have it checked every 2 years.
As far as the Outlander is concerned, I don't think Mitsu dealers in Toronto have this service. I will have to shop around. I want the car sprayed at delivery but not injected with oil and wholes drilled into the body.
  • dodo2dodo2 Member Posts: 496
Did you get your Outlander yet? I haven't seen any on the road even though the dealer I was talking to said they sold so many.
  • growwisegrowwise Member Posts: 296
Was supposed to get it tomorrow. But dealer said they need to get it detailed and detailer was not in blah blah..

So will pick it up on monday around lunch hour. Cant wait. Had insurance arranged and am all set to go.

Could have had it last week or so if I didnt change my color choices every minute. :P From the time I gave them my final choice it was day before yesterday. They located one in markham and is on its way.
  • dodo2dodo2 Member Posts: 496
Which color and trim did you get? Which dealership? Price?
  • growwisegrowwise Member Posts: 296
I finally settled for graphite gray pearl XLS. The only option was nav/dvd which I passed. Dealer is Dixie Mitsubishi. They have some awesome staff over there. I strongly suggest them for anyone living west of tdot. Price is pretty much standard (just got 1250 off of msrp). Trade-in was decent value and no haggling was required thru out the deal. vehicle was actually sitting with mitsu in markham so they just put it on truck today.
  • dodo2dodo2 Member Posts: 496
I know the dealership. What other fees did you pay apart from the government fees?
  • missvicmissvic Member Posts: 6
I just bought 07 outlander from the north shore Vancouver. I live in Langley im yet to see another out on the streets. I ordered the graphite but on delivery changed my mind for the pearl white i thought it looked sharp with the silver and black acsents on the xls . the nav is great and i load mp3 files unlike the u.s. models. the heated mirrors come on with the rear defoger.
  • dodo2dodo2 Member Posts: 496
"the heated mirrors come on with the rear defoger".

Hi missvic, could you please elaborate on the heated mirrors? Heated mirrors are not listed in the spcs sheet for 07 Outlander.
