    Hello ,

I have gotten couple of quotes from dealers about a
2009 mdx + tech package - 38K, which will make it around 42k on the road.

I am strongly considering a 2007 CPO also , for some reason all the acura dealers do not have a lot of 2007 MDx'es available , one dealer gave me a quote for 32K for a 2007 + tech package.
I think the CPO is way over-priced since the brand new one itself is just a few grand more.
did any one buy a 2007 MDX with sport package recently? , if so please let me know price paid

Hi there, I have priced them in Virginia and was offered $36,450 (this price includes the $399 dealer processing fee), so on top of that are taxes, tags, and registration. Sounds like you have a good deal, barring unreasonable processing fees (or any other hidden fees). :)

This is to share our deal with those out there either considering or working on figures with various dealers. I read some posts here that gave me ideas on what may be possible so I hope this is helpful to someone.

    (1) Went to BMW Dealer and test drove an 08 X5 4.8i with NAV. Interior color was tan and not our 1st choice. Dealer shot us a price of $2520 under MSRP and basically wouldn't budge unless we wanted to enter the haggling process. We told him we're in no rush, thanked him for his time and left. (Sales person gave us a buy-one, get-one free entree dinner at a chophouse. We had king crab legs that were spectacular!)
    (2) On the way home, the Sales person e-mailed me dropping the price another $2520 and asked me to contact him.
    (3) Before we got home, the Sales person left a phone message on our answering machine saying he would drop the price to Invoice.
    (4) The next day, I found a comparable BMW at another Dealer in same region so I called them and almost made an appt to go see the other vehicle. Interior color was not our 1st choice but was close. I told the Internet Sales person about the deal the 1st dealer offered and that person wanted paper proof before working any numbers. Needless to say, the Invoice offer was on the answering machine so there was no proof so I sent the 1st dealer an e-mail and asked for confirmation that I had the correct understanding. I also mentioned that I was working with another dealer.
    (5) The same day, I went to the Acura dealer down the road from my office. I met with a fabulous Sales person and took test drives in 2 vehicles. I left with some basic numbers of this dealer's 1st offer.
    (6) That evening, I wrote back to both BMW dealers indicating that I was working with a competing dealer for another make and asked them if they would go below invoice.
    (7) The following day, the 1st dealer dropped the X5 to $500 under Invoice and asked when can we sign. The 2nd dealer wasn't willing to do business via Internet and still wanted paper evidence. I received both e-mails while sitting at the Acura dealer and showed the Sales person what they're willing to do on the X5. The Sales person came back with $700 under invoice. Now we're talking!
    (8) I asked if they would sell accessories to me at Dealer Cost (wood grain steering wheel and gear shift knob), cargo cover, all weather floor mats (rubber / slush type), protection package (cargo tray, mud flaps, locking lug nuts) and sport running boards and I offered to pay the labor on installation for the wood grain steering wheel and gear shift knob. The dealer agreed.
    (9) Upon finishing the work day, I called the dealer back and asked for the $0 deductible extended warranty at dealer cost. I asked for the best one they had. The dealer e-mailed me back indicating that the Finance Department could discount the warranty but not provide it at cost.
    (10) I called the dealer and said that my husband and I are seriously thinking of the purchase and that if they could drop the extended warranty to dealer cost, it's a make or break deal.
    (11) The dealer agreed. The cost on the extended warranty is $2440.

    Final Price:
$41873 ($700 below Invoice) for 08 MDX with Tech & Entertainment Pkg
$697.73 for wood grained wheel (installed)
$147 for wood grained gear shift knob (installed)
$698.25 for sport running boards (installed)
    $152 for cargo cover
    $2440 for 8 year / 120,000 $0 deductible warranty

    $46145.98 @ 3.9% for 60m and $0 down --> $882.64 / month

I've found that if you work patiently, that if you're friendly, easy going and courteous, you can enjoy your shopping experience and hold on to more of your hard earned money than you think. I probably could have pushed to figures lower than $700 under invoice but I also respect that dealers have to make money to stay in business. The fact is, they had a dozen or so 2008 model MDX's they had to sell because they already have 2009's on the lot. They need to get rid of them so as the next month or two progress, deals will probably get better than this one.

Ours is coming from out of state and will be driven to the dealer. It's Black with Taupe interior. We put down a $500 deposit since there's a $300 transport fee. If there is something terribly wrong with the vehicle and we're dissatisfied when we see it, the money is refundable.

    Good luck!

Car_Girl, the dealer probably apparently didn't t tell you that he's getting $2,500 in dealer cash if you use Honda financing (or $3,500 if you don't). That dealer cash is generally provided to customers as an incentive (it basically reduces the dealer's cost on the vehicle by the same amount). Since MDXes are selling below invoice, the entire dealer cash would generally come off the invoice price (not MSRP). Don't worry, they still make a profit -- they have a dealer holdback. Since it's not in your dealer's stock, you probably can't dip into the holdback, but I still think you should be able get it for around $39,900 - $40,400 ($1,000 less if you don't use the 3.9% AHF financing), and they'll probably still thrown everything else in to get the sale. I mention this only because it sounds like you still might have a chance to negotiate a better deal.

Incidentally, if you're willing to take one that they already have in stock, they'd probably be willing to dip into their holdback and give you another $500-$750 off.

    dkla76,
I'm apparently not supposed to post the name of salespeople on this site. But as I mentioned, I got mine at Acura 101 West in Calabasas. Contact their internet sales team. I don't know if they had white/beige, but they supposedly have the largest inventory in SoCal (hence the great pricing). I believe white/beige is hard to find (we got blue/beige, which is also very tough), so I wouldn't wait until Labor Day. I seriously doubt the deal is going to get any better -- it will probably just be better advertised then, but with fewer to choose from.
  • soccerandlostsoccerandlost Member Posts: 50
    Jessie12,

If they have a lot of inventory, you might be able to push them $500-$1k lower and/or get some accessories at dealer cost -- especially if they don't have the PTG -- but those sound like pretty good offers.
  • soccerandlostsoccerandlost Member Posts: 50
    Pilot84,

That seems a bit high for SoCal (where inventory is HUGE). I just leased mine 2 weeks ago, and I'm paying slightly less than that ($571/mo incl. tax) for the exact same vehicle with $0 drive-off. Now, granted, we went w/ a 3yr/10k lease (my wife has a 4 mi RT commute), but I don't think the difference in residual would amount to $2k. For example, if it's a 1% residual difference, that would be less then $500 (~$12/mo). Even at a 2% differential (the max, I would think) it would only be around a $900 difference over 3 years (roughly a $25/mo difference).

The best offer I got was $488/mo (incl. tax) for $2998 drive-off. I took that offer, but financed the $2998 to make it a $0 drive-off. With 15k you can probably get out the door for about $500-$515/mo with no drive-off. If you want to stick with the $1999 driveoff, I'd probably shoot for $525-$540/mo. depending on what they tell you the residual rate difference is between a 10k lease and a 15k lease.

you should be ashamed of yourself for buying a mazda and not acura. not even in the same league. good riddance! off to mazda board for you. good day.
  • dishwash42dishwash42 Member Posts: 89
great price and all but i think that PTG is really a waste of money. Completely useless imho.
  • dave210dave210 Member Posts: 242
Seeing my wife had a power tailgate on her what-would-now-be 8 year-old Town&Country, the deletion of this option when we got our first MDX in 2003 was a hard adjustment.

We certainly didn't use our PTG very often, but for those few times when we had our hands full, it was nice to just press a button without having to set everything down again.

While I understand this feature may not be for you, I certainly wouldn't call it completely useless.

Now the heated seats in my Infiniti are what I would call completely useless...they don't start heating up until the car has warmed up...which at that point, who cares?

Were you kidding? Hard to tell. Anyway, I'm currently in the market for a CUV and can afford either the luxury or non-luxury lines. And I have to say the Mazda CX-9 is still in contention for me, even after test driving both it and the Acura. Have you actually driven one? Car and Driver and Motor Trend did among others and all gave it awards. Honestly, if it were just about drive, features and styling I'd probably get the Mazda right now. I just can't get over their really poor radio/nav/car tech integration (no trip computer at all) and the consistent reports about Mazda dealership service centers handling the vehicles poorly. But to say its not in the same league is laughable.

Thanks...actually here is the most recent development:

Tech+Entn (with PTG and wheel locks) inclusive of fees and taxes: $40,000

    Still negotiating the Extended Warranty.

    dkla,
i agree with soccerandlost's opinion. I bought 1 from the same place 2 weeks ago. They dont have any white/beige with sport/ent pkgs. Which email address do you want the contact details at? I can fwd them to you. They are very easy going and good people to deal with.

    Best of luck.

I am surprised how is this guy dishwash42 is not yet banned in this board. His contribution is close to nothing and he only criticizes every one. He must be ashamed of himself for his comments and not some one who buys Mazda.
  • soccerandlostsoccerandlost Member Posts: 50
Totally disagree about the PTG, dishwash42. I didn't really care whether we got it or not when I was shopping, but now that we've had it (for just 2 weeks) it has become one of our favorite features. Particularly with a young baby, it makes life just that much easier.

It's a lot like the seat air-conditioners in my Infiniti: a feature I never would have cared about when I first shopped, but which has become nearly indispensable ever since. And for what it's worth, the seat heaters in my Infiniti are great as well.

Hi folks, these boards have been incredibly helpful. I just picked up a 2008 Acura MDX/Tech package today in Virginia and here are the numbers (to the extent it might be helpful to someone else):

$36,501 (this is the rate with financing at 0.9%)
    $399 processing fee
$850 accessories (roof rails and rack, side molding, cargo tray, and wheel locks)$895 tire/wheel protection for 5 years
    Tags, taxes, and registration
Total OTD price $38,246 with 0.9% financing - if I had not financed the vehicle, it would have been $1,000 cheaper.

We also plan to get an extended warranty, but we don't need to do that right away (need to do it before we hit $6,000 miles or 1 year). We brought in the Bernardi figures and our dealership (who was way off on the numbers) immediately said that they could match the numbers - this is a huge tip for anyone looking to purchase an extended warranty through AcuraCare - bring in this chart and you likely will get better numbers! Of course you can purchase the extended warranty through any Acura dealer - you don't need to purchase it through the dealer where you bought the car.
    http://www.bernardiwarranty.com/Departments/Acura/MDX/New-MDX-Personal.aspx

    Happy shopping everyone! :D

I just bought the 2008 MDX Tech with PTG in Long Island, New York.
$37,000 (2.9% fiancing for 60 months) plus tax.
    DMV fees may be $50.

Most dealers still offer the same vechicle over $38,000.
  • vavavoomvavavoom Member Posts: 42
despite his foul tone and idiotic disposition, the mdx really is superior to the CX-9. there is a world of difference in the drivability of these two cars. the CX-9 feels like a lumbering truck with little tightness in the steering - now i shelled out a little more mulah for the mdx sport suspension but even the base mdx i testdrove far outshone anything the mazda could muster.
  • reccarecca Member Posts: 3
Wow, great deal you have there clui. I live in Brooklyn and planning to get a MDX with Tech and don't mind driving to LI. Could you send me some details of the deal, like the salesperson and the fees they charged. My email is ccwin93@yahoo.com . Greatly appreciated if you could. Thank you in advance.

Sealed the deal this afternoon. $33K OTD. 2.9% APR for 60 months.

    MSRP was $41K.

OTD as in taxes and fees included? that is cheap!

This is a great price. What is the best price that you have seen for 8 years/120 K mile extended warranty? I am getting ~1800.00.

The best cash offer I am seeing in the bay area on the Tech + Entn ( PTG) is 38,188.00 + fees equals $41,756.05 out the door...Any comments?

    Thanks

Thanks soccerandlost - Dealers have to make money in order to stay in business. I realize they're still making money even at the figure we've negotiated. Your comments are helpful though in case we notice anything on the vehicle that doesn't seem right or that makes it appear that it's not brand new. We were told this vehicle was sitting on the showroom floor at an out of state dealer and there is a driver heading down in a vehicle this dealer is trading. If the car comes back and smells like french fries, it looks like we've got a little more bargaining room and they can still make money on the deal. We'll see. Thanks again for your post! In my mind, the saleswoman we dealt with was so professional and low pressure on our whole discussion, it doesn't make me feel badly knowing how much they're still making. Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the MDX--I owned an 06 and I'm looking at the 08 now. However, I'm also looking at the CX-9. While I agree that the MDX handles much better, the CX-9 is much more family friendly. More room, easier access to the back rows, and usable cargo space behind the third row might make it a better choice for families. If I were buying an SUV just for myself, I'd look to the RDX and X3...
  • dreamcast18dreamcast18 Member Posts: 5
Faced the same options: CX9 or MDX...for $33K it was no brainer for the MDX even though I had the S-Price (employee/friend) for the CX9.

Thanks to everyone on these forums. Just took delivery of a new 2008 MDX and thought I'd share the details. Purchased in Northern Virginia.
2008 MDX with Tech and PTG (Gray/Taupe)
    MSRP: 44,960
    Purchase price: 37,211
    Dealer fee: 385
Gross capitalized cost (includes DC taxes, etc): 38,490
Money down: 2,500 (1924 cap reduction + 576 first month)
    36 month lease, 12k/year, 53% residual
    Monthly: 575.21

I also got ~$300 worth of accessories at cost plus two years of free oil changes.
I may have left a few dollars on the table, but feel the process was overall pretty fair and I'm pleased with the deal. It was Radley Acura and I can share the name of the salesperson if anyone is interested.

SOCCERANDLOST, thank you for your input!

I am a little confused about your last statement.

With 15k you can probably get out the door for about $500-$515/mo with no drive-off. If you want to stick with the $1999 driveoff, I'd probably shoot for $525-$540/mo. depending on what they tell you the residual rate difference is between a 10k lease and a 15k lease.

Do you mean for 15k, I can expect about $525 - $540 with no driveoff and $500 to $515 with about $2,000 driveoff? Just making sure I understand and I think you may have switched the numbers. Thanks again.

I'm assuming you love your vehicle!!
  • sleepybubbasleepybubba Member Posts: 61
Well, dishwash42, I know I am on Acura forum, but to say what you just said only underscores your ignorance, stupidity and not knowing a bit on the subject. A car is only a car and whatever one buys only depends on one's tastes and pereferences. You can stop reading here, as you won't be able to comprehend the rest anyway...

I won't go into explaining the differences I drew for myself while extensively test-driving both - only I'd say both CX-9 and MDX were the final contenders in race for my ownership and Mazda won due to the sum of features not, any specific one, although Acura was very close one.

If you are mostly after a sport car handling, MDX wins hands down, no questions asked. I loved that sporty feeling especially when throwing the X into the tight corners or accelerating. The CX-9 was surpisingly close despite it's size and weight. However the CX-9 had a much cushier ride while still retaining the sport/SUV car feeling and responsivness.

Inside the CX-9 is much roomier. The third row is larger and easier to access. The X has a very nice interior that immediately scream "Luxury" with wrap-around dash. CX-9 enjoys a different approach to an interior being more "americanized", flat with all controls positioned very logically. If you are getting their top of the line GT trim, you will be suprpised how nicely it was equipped inside - it does not feel inferior to the X at all, only different. On the top of that, we were looking for the dark interor (due to our 2 boys magic ability to turn any light interior into the dark one anyway). I really liked the MDX parchment or sand interior while their ebony was looking unimpressive to me. The CX-9 however has these really nice grey accents in their seats. Additionally, their faux wood trim also add the elegance.

The only gripe I had with Mazdas is their subpar NAV and questionnalble Sirius/MP3 player integration. I ended up forgoing the NAV option with Mazda and I was not looking for this in MDX either so here it was a wash to me.

And finally, the important part is WAF (wife's acceptance factor). Hands down the looks of CX-9 (check out that Liquid Platinum Metallic) won her out and I couldn't disagree.

Again, I am in no way ashamed and in fact very happy with my choice. When it's time to replace my wife's car - I may give Acura another look this time at RDX.
  • citivascitivas Member Posts: 144
Great review sleepybubba. I have test driven each of these cars at least three times and can't stop being tempted by the CX-9. You're right, most drivers don't focus on only one feature for their buying decision. The Acura may be the best-in-class ride for the CUV, but the CX-9 has a bunch of advantages over it, including much more roominess and to the subjective opinion of my family a nicer interior and exterior (only looking at the GT model). An regarding ride, I actually liked the acceleration and responsivness of he manual shifting better on the CX-9 than the MDX, and thought it was a "smoother" ride as well. It also gets a bit better gas mileage. Like you, it is the terrible nav, radio tech and RES (the screen is cheap, sticks down too far even when closed and completely kills rear vision when open) that hold me back. I have toyed with the skip-the-nav and just get a great after-market one approach but I did this with a previous car and totally regret it because it is a pain to setup and stow all the time.

If Mazda hadn't screwed up the cabin tech, I would buy a CX-9 over the current MDX even if they were priced exactly the same. As it is, they are similarly discounted. You can easily get one right now more than $10K under MSRP, making it still much cheaper than the MDX comparably equipped.

I am not sure this is the right forum. However, I used this site to secure a fantastic lease on a 2008 MDX in Northern Virginia this past November. I am now, however, moving to NY and would like to move up without a car. Therefore, I am looking for someone to take over the lease. Is anyone interested?

    Pilot84,

You're right -- I screwed up the numbers. Unfortunately I'm not sure that transposing them makes it right, either. If I have the chance later, I'll try to rerun them.

And yes, we love it. Wish the nav was as user friendly as our other car (an Infiniti) and that it had a true Ipod dock, but it's still great nevertheless.

I too looked at the Mazda CX-9 as well as the Dodge Journey before buying my MDX SPort. I agree that the MDX is a little more in the luxury dept. but I wasn't looking to impress my friends or have a status symbol more than I was just looking for a an all around nice and comfortable SUV. The Journey was actually a well thought out SUV. Howeverm it was really quite slow and had Dodge not been so pushy as well as their arrogance in adding $2k in "market adjustment" to the MSRP, I might have bought the Journey. The CX-9 was, in my opinion, very comparable to the MDX. It may not have been as high of a status symbol, but it was a few bucks cheaper. However, it too was not very quick despite the claim of decent horsepower. Overall, my wife really just liked the MDX better. The smoke/chrome wheels on the Sport model and the really cool black/grey interior wood trim really won her over. So, we spent the extra couple of dollars and went for the MDX. I also agree with the PTG comment earlier. I really thought it was a stupid option, but now that I have it, I really like it. We got the MDX Sport with PTG for $42,900 out the door. This included the side molding, mats and a cargo tray. I had to fight but I did also get the 2.9% financing as well. They wanted to raise the price $1,200 in order to get the 2.9, but after threatening to leave, they somehow managed to give in. I also got the 7 year/100k mile warranty for $2,240 extra. We live in Florida, so for some reason, the really good deals on the extended warranty are not to be had here. Anyone know why? Overall, I think I got a really good deal. I don't see too many people here with a significantly lower deal than I got. Besides, they had the exact vehicle we wanted and we did not have to compromise color or options at all. And since the 2.9% was a clincher and would end soon, I thought now was as good a time as any to buy.

To sum up my deal for anyone interested in buying here it is.
2008 MDX Sport with PTG (Sport includes the tech package plus performance suspension and 5 spoke wheels - which I really liked better than the tech wheels)
PTG = power tail gate (Trust me...this really is a cool option to have)
Side molding, floor mats, and cargo tray included.
NO roof rack or running boards (I will add later as I really like the looks)
    $39,640 + tax/tag/?
$42,912 total out the door price
$2,440 for the extended 7 year/100k mile warranty
$2,400 for trade in (2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee)
    2.9% financing for 60 months
$0 money down - All we did was give them our trade in and sign
$760 a month for 60 months (They pushed for higher months but I refused)

Has anyone done a better deal or is this at least something to be proud of?

Which website do you recommend for price quote? There is of course edmunds.com. You can also go directly to acura.com and quote directly from the dealers. There is Costco (www.costcoauto.com). There are also third party websites like www.whypaysticker.com.

    Would appreciate your experience.

Bought an 08 MDX Base sterling gray on ebony with 12 miles this past Sunday in the south bay:
    $32, 850 Vehicle including destination (MSRP $40, 900 invoice $37,274)
$638 Roof rail + body side molding (my choice)
    $55 Doc fee
    $2767.30 CA Tax
$301 (DMV and other gov fees)

    $36,612.05 Grand total cash price.

Another local dealer actually offered $200 less on a similar MDX via email, phone, and in person, but I wanted to do business where I test drove the car and let the sale consultant see the result of his effort (a gent in his 70's).

This might not be the lowest price around here, but it only took me 24 hours from test drive, to soliciting quotes from other dealers via email, to bringing the car home.

Can you post the dealership name, city and state info for both Acura dealers? The one you purchased from in the end and the one that offered you $200 less on a similar base MDX. Thanks.

The dealers are Sunnyvale Acura and Stevens Creek Acura in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, CA respectively.

The Base model only lacks the Navi and Power Tail Gate, otherwise it is identical to the Tech package. To me, the Base is the best value for money.

Does the base come with a rear view camera? Also is the audio system the exact same as the Tech model?

i highly recommend those who plan on plunking down $35K on a car to at the very least visit the manufacturer website and familiarize themselves with what they're buying. You've already garnered an imcomplete answer to the question and if you rely on it, you'll be sadly mistaken. here's the tip; visit acura.com. mdx specifications. TECHNOLOGY PACKAGE FEATURES. You'll see plenty you don't get with the base which imho, is a necessary upgrade if you want to buy this car. base is utterly bland.

Is $39,000 too much to pay for a Sport with Entertainment given the dealer rebate (I believe $3500)

lol. that's $1,500 less than I would've paid for my non-entertainment sport without special financing. I'd say it's a fantastic deal. including destination charges, a sport entertainment should invoice at $44,347. you're getting this car about $5,347 below invoice. if you do deal at this level, i'd consider it a steal.
