Yeah, its a dark blue/grey color and like the prior poster said its really beautiful.

My husband actually likes that color better than black.

Honda dealers are getting $3000/car from Honda. Is this the year end sales or will there be another cut in prices later this year? I was told that 2007s are coming next week and no more 2006 by one sales person; later he said another shipment is coming in 2 weeks. I am confused.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,733
If they are really coming next week, I'd say this is it. But it seems, if they ARE coming next week, they are early. Doesn't Honda usually switch over end Sept/early Oct?

I just experienced a different prices for leasing vs. purchasing a Pilot. When I told the salesperson that I am leasing a car, she said it would be $1,000 more than what she quoted me previously. Is this normal practice?
  • myen2myen2 Member Posts: 15
I called over there because they have the exact model I wanted, but the "fleet manager" (there's two apparently) didn't want to give me 26,900. I'm not sure who helped you without trouble.

Also, did you say that the manager took 1000 off of 27188= 26,188 for a 4WD ex-l with NAVI? Or did you mean that he gave you a great price for the 2WD EX-L with NAVI minus $1000.

thanks. looking to buy one soon.

I'd like to thank everyone for their help. This is the most useful forum I've visited on any topic. Definately made the task of purchasing a new vehicle a lot easier.

I purchased from Ludgren Honda in Auburn, MA. Oddly enough, it was the first dealership I visited. I did a TON of research and comparison shopping and went back to them in the end. It really was the most painless car purchase I've had to date. The salesman was really great and there were none of the typical games.

I purchased for 28,686 EX-L with RES. They called around for the color I wanted as they didn't have it on the lot. That was a Friday and the car was in on Monday and ready to drive away. No extra charge. No complaints.

Happy Pilot driving everyone and enjoy the remainder of your summer.
  • myen2myen2 Member Posts: 15
It depends on if the Honda cash to dealers include leasing or not... if you can't purchase it outright and want to keep the car, just take their financing deal (2.9%).
  • tinypoemtinypoem Member Posts: 26
Very nice price. I also got the same 2WD EX-L w/NAVI for 27,162 from the internet mgr also in Sagebrush Pearl at a different dealership. I didnt have good luck with Diamondbar. 2 quote requests were never responded to. The color is getting harder to find. Many dealers only have silver left.

Given gas prices, no design changes with the '07 Pilot, and the SUV market in general . . . . What are the chances the rebates for the Pilots will stay or come back qiuckly on the '07's? Especially with a re-design expectd in '08. Any prognosticators out there??

I just got a great deal at Pohanka honda in Marlow heights Maryland. EXL AWD - $26900 (including freight) + dealer processing $100 + tax + tags. No other charges, I was out the door at $28612. They threw in the wheel locks and pinstripping already on the pilot for free as we had agreed over the internet on no dealer add ons.

I submitted requests to 10 nearby dealers (DC area), received quotes from 7, three had quotes within $100 of eachother after a little negotiating via the internet, but only two had my top choice of Steel Blue. Put down a little more than half and financed the rest at 2.9% for 24 months.

To buy for $3,380 under invoice ($6,695 under MSRP) and to get 2.9% financing on a vehicle as unbelievable as the Pilot is crazy! I'm so glad I waited I almost pulled the trigger on one a couple months ago.

If your picky on color like me and want a great deal on an '06, I'd say to hurry up and get your Pilot.

Conicelli is up to $29.8+TTL for an AWD EX-L with Navi

The reason for that maybe is that you didn't haggle for the price you want and doesn't show that you are an interested buyer...

You have to be ready to counter what the dealer is trying to quote you and be prepared and have your research handy.

are you happy with how south bay honda did business with you? i'm considering buying 2WD EX from them thru their internet sales dept. anything i should look out for? thanks.
  • mgreene01mgreene01 Member Posts: 1
I just bought the 2WD EXL with Nav in FL for $27,100 + TTL.

I used the internet for quotes and pushed pricing via email. Once I got it to that price point, I pulled the trigger to secure my color.

Thanks to everyone on this board. You just can't beat this resource.

I have checked several dealerships and most of them are telling me that they can't go below 28,000 on an EXL, but one dealership told me that they are getting as much as $6,000 back from Honda. I just don't get why they are sitting on these cars when the 07's are already arriving and the 07's are only about $200.00 more. (sticker price) Anybody have a thought on this?
  • 2cents2cents Member Posts: 2
Wow, I can't tell you how amazing it is to read all the replies and read the experiences y'all have had. I've been looking at the '06s and have done some comparison shopping--I've test driven the Acura, Pathfinder, Lexus, BMW, saw the Mercedes, and I keep coming back to the Honda. The drive is unbelievable!!! So, we've narrowed our choice to, yes, purchasing a Honda pilot.

We're considering using AAA Car Club, or COSTCO to help with the fee's. Apparently COSTCO has a low MSRP agreement with the local dealers. Can anyone speak to that? Also, any comments about purchasing a 2007? And...what's this I hear about the re-do on the '08s?

Any information you can share would be appreciated. Signed, Wet Behind the Ears. ;););)

For what it's worth, one dealer told me that the complete redesign of the Pilot will not be until 2010.....

Average price off of pilots is 6500-7500 with sightings of 8000+

Click on my screen name and see message 7208

Also see message 12481 under Honda Accord board for resources to learn how to purchase a new car.

Honda Pilot depreciates 10k first year so they are still not giving these machines away.
August is a big volume bonus month for Honda dealers so get 10-15 quotes (email or fax) from your nearest dealerships the last week of the month for best results

    Happy hunting..

See my message 7252 The dealer incentives (advertised or unadvertised) will be there.

BTW there are not and prob never will be rebates on Honda Autos. (if there have been, I have missed them)

Rebates are almost always advertised and in any event are usually coughed up without negotiation as they make for a happy customer, lower price, and are uncollectable by the dealership or you without your signature. (State Attorney General gets upset otherwise) No real reason not to offer up spontaneously unless you called the dealer's kids ugly.

Dealer marketing support (advertised or unadvertised) may or may not be there and if and how much you may have to smoke out. As is the case with most new car names. message 7252 again. In this case the advertised "Honda Clearance" is one clue.

My advice would be to expand your circle of dealers. I went out 200 miles and worked back to my area. Email dealers and tell them you are seeing prices online (for example this forum) of less than $27,000 for EX-L 4WD models. This was my starting point, so my quotes began at $26,995 from a dealer in Atlanta and I would use the lowest quote with the next dealer and the price continued to come down until I hit my best deal at $26,300 (including destination. My advice would be to use Edmunds request a quote service and also some of the other sites where you can get quotes on Pilots. I don't think Edmunds likes us to use the names of the other services, so suffice it to say that you should look for websites where you can get prices online without even contacting dealers.

Find a dealer with a bunch of 06 Pilots on their lot and I'll bet you'll be under $27,000 in a flash. Be willing to walk away and to drive a fair distance if necessary.

    Good Luck!
  • 214amy214amy Member Posts: 4
I emailed out about 10 inquiries. 3 of the dealers have responded with "we will match any price in Texas." That's pretty irritating, especially when you use the "quick quote" feature of their website. Lowest quotes so far for EXL with RES is $28,500 and without RES $27,000. Anyone else doing any better?
  • rbell2rbell2 Member Posts: 180
As far as I am concerned, if dealers are getting back an extra $3,000 for each '06 Pilot they sell from Honda corporate, that is a Rebate. You can call it what you want, that is just a play on words. These Honda "dealer marketing" discounts are listed on Edmunds and are as easy to read and negotiate with as the "rebates" listed from Chevy and Ford - makes no difference to the informed buyer.

To say Honda has never had rebates is like arguing the definition of "is" for the beloved President Clinton.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,733
makes no difference to the informed buyer.

absolutely right ... sadly, though, informed buyers make up a surprisingly small percentage of all buyers.

So not offering up money back to the general public and somewhat hiding the money back in the form of dealer cash is one of the reasons Honda resale is so good. If EVERYONE knew you could walk in and get such a big discount, you can be sure the used values would drop.

Well, I closed a deal on Sat for mine and it took some serious work. Once I pick it up tomorrow (they are currently installing backup sensors and tinting it), I will post my deal. It is not as good as the $26,300 that people have gotten in other parts of the country, but it was a pretty good deal.

Also, I didn't opt for RES or NAV because you can put those in after market in the Pilot and the after market ones can and will be a better investment in the long run.

Are you looking for 2WD or 4WD EX-L? $27K is not bad in DFW for a 4WD. Read through some of my previous posts. I wouldn't waste my time with Honda Cars of McKinney or Lute Riley. Bankston and Rusty Walis were relatively competitive.
  • 214amy214amy Member Posts: 4
We're looking for AWD. I've looked at the aftermarket DVDs. The going rate appears to be about $1,100-$1,300 installed. I'm sick of dealing with salespeople.

Where can I get good research materials to back up my counteroffers? We are in Austin and are getting offers in the 30s. help.
  • mseenviromseenviro Member Posts: 64
I think anything under $27 large for a 4WD EX-L is a great deal. Three months ago I would have been pleased with anything under $30K for the EX-L. What a great time to buy a Pilot!
  • budinctbudinct Member Posts: 21
I picked up my 2006 Black/Grey AWD EXL for $26,900 in NY. I shopped for several weeks in NY and CT with internet quotes and dealer visits. I did the last bit of negotiating via email. Signed the papers and was out in 1 hr. I also took the 4.9% and I am very happy. My trade was the key and I felt I got the best deal.

My measure was SI Honda. They have 175 Pilots on the lot! They would not beat my price and told me to take the deal from my dealer. I thought thet were crazy that they would not beat the price.

    Bring on the snow!

Check with David McDavid in Irving. They offered me 29.2 for an 4WD EXL-Navi, the DVD is usually a couple hundred bucks less I think.
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
    4WD EX-L Navi
    $29.4 +TTL
    in Dallas/Fort Worth
It isn't the lowest, but seems fair. Any feedback?
  • tinypoemtinypoem Member Posts: 26
I also pulled the trigger on a 2WD EXL with NAV for 27,100+ TTL in Sagebrush Pearl. That color is rare in Socal now. Most dealers still have many of the Billet Metallic in stock and want to unload them. Used internet qoutes only. All the other dealers were quoting in the high 27's. Got it from Rock Honda. Very hassle free. Was in and out in a flash!

I think you can do better. I measured all of my quotes against Reliance in Lake Jackson and called up dealers telling them I had an offer from another dealer for $xx. I of course, refused to give them dealer information because it wasn't relevant.

I will post my deal info tonight...

I got mine last Saturday from El Monte, CA. 4WD EX-L NAV in white color for $28,766 including destination charge. Only drawback was that when I wanted a lease, they added $1,000 to the price mentioned above. I took it with several minor optional accessories (cargo organizer, mud guard, wheel locks) at no charge. I am putting chrome side step and chrome exhaust finisher to add the final touch to the car. The car looks very good in white with chrome accents. Happy to get the deal done, but I thought I could have done better if I spent more time on the computer plus phone calls. At the end, it got too much negotiating and just pulled a plug.

Happy shopping everyone and this board shure helped me a lot!
  • amandatamandat Member Posts: 3
Were your tax and license fees added on top of the 28,766 (29,766 with lease) or were they included as well - so what was your out-the door price?
  • mseenviromseenviro Member Posts: 64
Isn't the Black/Gray color combination awesome? After a clay bar treatment and two coats of Meguiars NXT it shines like a mirror.

175 Hondas on their lot and they wouldn't beat the price you had? I have to admit I don't get some of these dealers. You would think with that many 06s on their lot they would be slashing and burning to move them. The closest dealer to my home had 30+ Pilots on their lot and told me they would beat any written offer by $200. They then did not do it even though I had a quote by email. They didn't believe it was a legit quote. It was.

I'm ready for the snow too. Bring it on!
  • rshapirorshapiro Member Posts: 2
According to the salesman I spoke to at SI Honda about a week ago, they have about 40 Pilots left, not 175. The online inventory has been stuck on 175 for at least 2 weeks, so it obviously hasn't been updated.

I ended up taking the quote of $26,500 excluding taxes and MV fees from SI Honda to my local Paramus Honda dealer and bought a black and gray AWD EX-L for $26,500 + $129 dealer doc fee + $354 title/plates/reg + $7.50 NJ tire fee + tax. I dealt with the internet dept at both dealerships.
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
2006 4WD Pilot EX-L with Navigation (Pro Pack and Moonroof Visor dealer adds) 10 miles on odometer (after my test drive, plastic still on the floor) - in Dallas/Fort Worth

$30,000 out the door (included car, my 0 NET trade (actually a vehicle that is just barely worth more than the remaining cost - by anyone's standard, including CarMax, edmunds.com and another dealer), all fees, 6.25% sales tax) 100% out the door.

The salesman and Sales Manager spoke with me. Told them both I could not argue the fairness of their deal, but had to walk away.
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
Two dealers that I have to give big thumbs up to:

    Conicelli Autoplex, Conshohocken, PA

Hendrick Honda of Woodbridge, Woodbridge, VA

Both dealers have great salespeople and offer very competitive prices. I am not going to do a deal with them because I am in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and have received offers here that are very competitive, but I think both of these dealers deserve recognition for their professionalism and fair dealing. :shades:

I just picked up my Pilot. I live in Plano, but drove all the way to Fort Worth to Frank Kent Honda and picked up my 4WD EX-L for $27,600 with tint ($169) and backup sensors (about 600 installed). My previous best offer was $26,200 for a 2WD EX-L with "pro" pack from Rusty Walis and $27,350 from Bankston and Rusty Walis for 4WD EX-L's. Honda Cars of McKinney and McDavid Frisco wouldn't even come close to any of these prices...they must think they are selling cars lined with gold or something. Lute Riley bait and switched me and wasted my time.

So, on to the specifics. I called up Frank Kent on Saturday morning. I asked to speak to the Internet Sales Manager and was immediately told that I was speaking to her. She gave me a price of $27,169 including tint + $824 for the backup sensors. I said no way. She said she would ask her manager, but she doubts anyone would call me back to get the price of the sensors down. A few minutes later she called back and said that was her best offer. About an hour later, I got a call from a salesperson who sounds like he has been there a long time. He was courteous, professional, and we agreed on $27,600. He promised me that there would be no games if I made the trip out there. I drove out with my wife. He had Black w Tan and also a Sage Brush coming. I didn't like the Tan interior, so we decided to go with Sage Brush. It's a beautiful car...it drives like a dream.

Note, I also contacted Reliance and was willing to fly down there. Their price was $26,800 with no backup sensors or tint or any add ons. They had our first color choice...black with grey, but I didn't want to devote an entire day to flying down there and driving back up to DFW.

The experience at Frank Kent was top notch. As others have noted, they hesitate to give you pricing over the phone for fear you will use it against them by getting another dealer to beat it, but if you get to the right person, they will give you a fair price and a great buying experience. They did try to sell me a bunch of extras in the financing room, but I declined them all. I will consider buying Honda care from one of the online dealers.
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
Frank Kent Honda is top notch. They are professional, no games, great all around. Definitely would recommend them to anyone in the Metroplex.

I got a quote for 28,999 for a 2005 EX-L with navi, and the salesman took a deposit over the phone, saying this was to hold the car. I now have a better price from Open Road Honda. Original dealer won't lower the price. Didn't sign anything, so I should be able to have them credit the charge card for the deposit? Note...bad experience in West Caldwell. Salesman would not go below 31,267 for the navi, saying Edmunds new nothing about cars. Walked out of there.
What are people paying in NJ for the EX-L with navi?
