Does anyone out there know if these $3,000 "marketing incentives" to the Honda dealers will continue on the '07 Pilots? The '07's are showing up on the car lots and look absolutely no different from the '06's. Will the Pilot be revamped in '08?

    Thanks!

I've seen some forums showing spyshots of the next generation Honda Pilot. However there is a disclaimer that states, it may just be a Acura MDX test mule.

I just purchased a Pilot EXL 2006 last friday. Prior to the puchase, I've rec'd a few emails & phone messages saying when the 06 inventory are finished the deal is finished as well. I assume no deals for the 07 models.

We bought our '06 EX-L with NAV tonight, and after the extended warranty question (which we declined) we were asked if we wanted gap insurance for $650. What are thoughts on this?? We declined, but now I'm second guessing myself.

    29,453+TTL - OTD 31,471

This is a clean vehicle, not even off the train yet. No adds, salesman agreed that nothing would be put on the vehicle until I gave them the go (not even the dealer ID logo on the back).

    Any thoughts?

This is a couple hundred above what I could have gotten at the other dealer, but I just didn't feel right about that one. This one feels right. The dealer is great. Salesman is great. No pressure, lots of honesty.
  • momto3momto3 Member Posts: 12
I paid 31,435 for the EX-L with nav tonight, and while I could have gotten a few hundred less at another dealer, this dealership made it a pleasant and hassle-free transaction, plus they were able to locate the color I preferred (black) at another dealership. I went with my gut feeling as well, and am glad I did.

I used this forum extensively for my research for the Honda Pilot so I thought I would contribute. Just bought a Honda Pilot 2006 4WD EX-L from Ohare Honda for 26390 including destination. The dealership is located in Des Plaines, IL north of Chicago. This was a painless transaction since we did most of the negotiation through email and phone. My wife wanted the Amazon Green (very few left) and they were able to find it. The salesman (I know we can't mention names but not sure about initials so I'll go ahead mention it - A.B) I dealt with was very energetic and thorough. He even let my kids play on his and another salesman's computer while we were waiting for the finance guy.

Overall, it was an excellent experience.

    Good Luck
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
What region are you in? Also, is 31,435 an out the door price?

I am pretty sure that I could have squeezed another few hundred out of the deal, but this is an honorable salesman at a good dealer. Their accessory prices are significantly lower than other dealers in DFW. A lot of the accessories are cheaper installed by them than they would be for the parts alone, on the internet.

Here is a quick overview. I would check with your insurance company though. based on the deal you received on your Pilot, depending on which service your insurance would use, you may not be upside down. The dealer offers are usually overpriced, but I would definitely talk to your insurance agent.

I'm in NJ, and yes, 31,435 was the OTD price.

    Hi Ralph,

First of all, you should know that a 2006 Pilot EXL-Navi are becoming hard to find, especially if you want your choice of colors. I wanted the Sage Brush Pearl and Hunting Honda was able to work out a swap with Garden State Honda to get it for me. Here is the breakdown on my deal.

29,517.00 Selling Price of Car w/destination
10,500.00 Trade-in credit for my 2001 Pathfinder (Right on
with Galves-the auto industry wholesale guide)
    1,640.21 Sales Tax
    12.50 Tire Management Fee
    10.00 State Inspection
    45.00 for Registration Processing
    60.00 for Plates Transfer

    20,784.71 Total out the door

The car is suppose to be here tomorrow, and i have not decided if I will be adding any accessories. I am thinking about adding the running boards, cargo cover, rear mud guards, and the auto day/night mirror.

If you have a trade-in, when they give you an amount ask them to see what the Galves wholesale guide estimates the value of your trade. The trade in values on Edmunds and KBB tend to be on the high side. Try Galves.com as a resource. I hope I have been able to assist you.

My wife and I just purchased a Black 2006 2WD Pilot EX-L (no NAV or RES)from Reliance Honda in Lake Jackson, Texas. The final price was $25,800 with no destination charges or any other charges. Financing is at 2.9% APR for 36 months. :)

I did everything on line, the process was very painless. I actually would look forward to buying a car again if I could have the same experience. The internet sales manager was great, and she really made it easy to buy the car. There was absolutely no pressure at all.

Reliance was able to beat every other offer I received by over $1000. Most other Houston area dealers were in the $27K range, and some dealers were even unwilling to go below $30K (Sand Dollar Honda). When I told the other dealerships about the offer that Reliance had made, the standard response I got from them was that Reliance was doing a bait and switch, and would not be able to get me the car. Despite what they said, Reliance delivered on their promises, and everything was exactly as we wanted.

I have been watching this board for a couple of months, and I have learned allot. I doubt I would have gotten the price I got without all the information everyone has shared. Thanks for all of your help!

I'll share because I got a lot of good advise on this board when purchasing my Piolot. I got a 4WD EX-L w/Nav in Taffeta white at the end of July. Curry Honda in Yorktown Heights, NY.
Great dealership, wonderful to work with.

    Price $29,295 included destination.

From the research I did here I thought I could have done a little better on the price (by maybe $400 or $500) BUT Curry had the color I wanted and honestly I was getting really tired of dealing with the dealerships. I had done the mass-email route and found that many dealerships, no matter how many times you e-mailed them your criteria, would constantly respond with "call us, come in and see us". Curry Honda and Greenwich Honda were the only ones that responded to me directly with prices and negotiated with me via e-mail and phone. Greenwich Honda quoted me a price of $29,695 and I had countered at $28,900 (cause I knew my prices from doing my research here). Greenwich wouldn't budge one penny and I told them I wasn't a tire kicker I was ready to buy that day. Still they wouldn't budge. I guess I could have reached out to some of the other dealerships in my area to find out exactly what they could do for me price wise, but like I said I was getting very tired of the dealer run around.

Good luck with your new Pilot, everyone whe sees my car and rides in it absolutely loves it!

    gaissa,

I am just starting to look at the EXL AWD (no nav or ent) in the Denver area, have you gotten any feedback or prices from dealers. Any dealers you would stay away from or talk to?

    Thx,

Hi, Is $25800 the out-of-door price?
    Thanks.

I went the route of emailing dealers throughout Southern California. By the end of the day, the best deal I could get was actually an hour away from my house:

2006 Honda EX-L 4WD with Navi, silver ext / gray int
    --Price: $28,258
--includes destination, splash guards, wheel locks and the protection package

Most of the dealers I contacted couldn't go this low and offered mid $29K. Only two offered at the $28,258...the added pieces sealed the deal.

Like other people's experiences, dealers that couldn't meet the price were quick to jump on the skepticism bandwagon:

    1. Does it really include this, this and this?
    2. Are you sure they have the car?
    3. I may be more expensive, but I'll take care of you

One dealer even went so far as to say that the extra $40/month ($2K total) wasn't a big deal. One, $2K to avoid driving an extra hour is not a good selling point. Two, they had no idea if I planned to finance, pay cash, etc., but had the $40 already figured out???

I'll update with the dealer and experience after we pick it up.

Today, I got a quote for the above SUV with OTD 24,2K. Is it a good deal? It seems that the dealer gave me the price without any hesitate. How low can I go further if not a good deal? Any info will be highly appreciated.

We live in washington state (near seattle) and are looking for a 2006 Honda Pilot EX (no NAV/RES). Being new in this car-buying stuff,i sent some inquiries on the internet to various dealers. One of them quoted us for $29370 OTD ($26723 selling)and has 1 year roadside assistance, wheel well moldings, door edge guards & coupons for oil changes. Another dealer quoted it for under $27700 (said we have to come in to get the actual clearnace price). Having heard about the $3000 dealer incentive, what will be the best asking price to start our negotiation with? How about OTD? Having only a week left for this month, will this be a factor in getting a better deal? We were thinking in the range of $28000 OTD. Does that sound reasonable or too low? We would really appreciate all your expert advices on this.

I forgot to mention it was a '06 Honda Pilot EX 4WD. .
  • pitt94pitt94 Member Posts: 5
They had my car on the lot, I put a deposit on it Monday and picked it up last night. It was a tad more expensive than my best price (I got $26.9 for 4wd EXL) but at this point I was willing to pay extra for the color (sage brush), dealer location and service. I'm still happy with the deal. The purchase went great and I love the car.

Your deal sounds a little high, but not out of line assuming tax is included. You might be able to get a couple hundred more off of that. I'm under the impression that the incentives are volume based. And since they don't have the same volume of 2006s left on the lot, the dealership won't hit the highest incentive level with Honda. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I got. In fact, several of my quotes were higher in August than they were in July. This was true with several dealerships in Jersey and PA. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Honda pilot probably depreciates about 10-12k 1st year depending on model. So getting 6000 off msrp is by no means giving them away. All the low mileage vehicles are under pressure.

One gentleman in july stated he got a 25200 deal (8200 off MSRP) off a Exl. The average for exl's seems to be around 6800-7200 so I don't disbelieve this.

I don't know what OTD is as some states tax 300 and others will be 2200 on the same vehicle, depending on state. Additionally some will include $499 in dealer "fees " as OTD so itemize your
    deal.

In my opinion, the (non navi and res) pilots are as common as rain (especially silver in my area anyway). Go to my message 12481 in the Accord prices paid forum, study the resources recommended and learn how to buy a car.

I generally don't recommend price targets but if you need one shoot for 8200 off the 20 or so sales managers you email or talk to and see if you can meet or beat it (give them your cell#). Maybe you'll find 1 or 2 who really want to book a no profit sale at the end of the month to make their #'s . However that's not the way I would necessarily pursue it. The resources I mention are better.

Go to dealer locator on honda website for info. If a search of ex's you like are plentiful then you can try towards the end of sept too. Also means a higher probability of a price concession

isell: please expound. Which part is not true? There are noticeably more dealer installed options on the Hondas, so I figured there had to be some reason. Not that other car companies don't have dealer adds, but I have never seen a lot with so many installed options on almost every vehicle (only three dealers - small sample).
  • rbell2rbell2 Member Posts: 180
Used car pricing over the last few years since the Pilot came out in '03 would by no means support a 10-12K depreciation off MSRP the first year after purchase. More like 5 to 7K. With this recent 3K incentive and gas prices, then I am sure it has gone up some, maybe 1-2K.
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Every monkey and his uncle is and has been getting at least 6000-7500 off MSRP for these vehicles for several months.

If you think you are going to buy a EXLNavi (35600?) for 28000 or 29000, put 17000 miles on it and sell it singly for 26000-27000 to a dealer in a year I have some swamp land to sell you.(unless the dealers your mother)

IOW, theres a reason why people are getting 7000 off without too much trouble. You are not going work a good deal and drive a 28000 vehicle for a year and eat only 1 or 2k.

Congratulations on your new purchase! Actually the price she quoted me was NOT with tax or any other fees. That was the base price. I felt that she was trying to rip me off. I will see how it goes with them, if I decide to go to them. Did you remember seeing any 2006 EX with cloth interior in silver on their lot? Haha Thanks and congrats!

Try Clawson Honda of Fresno and Honda North of Clovis. I think you can get the same type of deals at Capitol Honda of San Jose and Stevens Creek Honda

I got a quote from showcase honda for EXL 2WD RES 26,800(base price) which includes a value package for 1K. When I went there, the dealer said he dont have a pilot for that price. Man they need suckers to get at higher price (31k OTD) for their pilots. Went to another dealer and he showed 33K at OTD for same 2WD RES EXL. Man these dealers are greedy.... Especially when they have 07 coming and a friend of mine bought the same spec pilot for 30.5K in may and honda only gave 2k as incentive...

Barang - The price you get is very HIGH. I got my Pilot EX with fabric interior and no options at $22758 plus tax and license fees two weeks ago. I got it at Honda World in Southern California. You need to name your price for the car with the internet sellers and ask them to beat or match it. I hope it helps.
  • 7milehi7milehi Member Posts: 28
My LHD made me a real deal today and I passed it up. 06 EX awd , stickered at 31.6K and I could get it for 28.9K . Hummm lets see , dealer gets 3K back from Honda , that comes to 28.6K but I could get it today for 28.9 PLUS tax, tags & fees. Fees you ask..... oh a mere $399. Had to pass on this "deal".

What should be a good deal less tax and tags & no fees for this Pilot ? I'm thinking 24.5-25K .
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Just out of curiosity .... 8400 off MSRP for a EX AWD pilot. (very good) Was it by any chance silver?

sent email to dealer, but I still think there is some space for decrease 1k, Honda has 3000 cash to dealer now.

Does any one have a Pilot, how about the gas mileage? I am afraid that I can afford to buy it, but I can't afford the gas expense.

Interesting. Others on this site seem to think that every monkey and his uncle are getting 6K to 7.5K off these cars. So you must not be a monkey or an uncle . . .

    Good luck.

I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now and I've finally contacted some dealers (in the DFW area) for some quotes. I got a quote for an EXL w/RES for $29,321.17 and this includes the protection package and tint package (TTL not included). I have some questions:
    - What is the protection package and tint package. I've looked at the Honda website and Edmunds etc...and none of these sites mention anything about this? :confuse:
    - I asked the delaer if the price is for an AWD instead of 2WD since it was not specified int he quote. If this was for an AWD, is that a good price?
    Thanks for your help.
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
For AWD, that is not bad. The Protection Package includes Lug Nut Wheel Locks (1 per wheel - Cost: 40 bucks on line), Rear Splash Guards (Cost: 32 bucks) and a Cargo Tray (Cost: 71 bucks). The window tint is usually for added tint on the two front windows. The rest of the windows come with tint. Some shops may tint the other windows too, but you should ask ahead of time.

If you are not talking to David McDavid in Irving, you should. Get a quote from them, they were the lowest I received in the DFW area. They were willing to do Invoice less $3,000 and gave the Protection Pack and Moonroof Visor for free.

i guess i will have to do more research now. we are thinking of dropping by one of the dealers near us to check on their inventories and from there, we will start calling/emailing these dealers again.thank you for again for all the feedbacks. wish us luck. ;)
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
Most of the dealers have their inventories on line. The on line info is not always 100% up to date, but it is a good place to start. Simple reality is, the more units they have, the better deal you will get.
  • lahirilahiri Member Posts: 394
Well, if you need 3 rows of seating, you will have to pay for gas. If you need 2 rows, get CR-V. One exception exists though: Highlander Hybrid.

We have an EX auto transmission and get awful mileage around town. If we are very, very, lucky we get 15 mpg...

  • pitt94pitt94 Member Posts: 5
That does look high. For what it's worth, I had multiple dealers give higher quotes in August than July. One dealership (Madison in NJ) even quoted me 32k on a 2006 EXL, which gave me a good laugh. My advice would be to get an internet quote from Sussman and see if Conicelli will match it.

Conicelli still had several silver and black Pilots, but I don't know if they had leather or cloth trim. I think their web site has an inventory search. Hope that helps. Good luck!

    I am getting a 06EXAWD for 23,864 + dest + tax + doc + dmv
From what i read here, think i got a very good price. [except for someone who got 8400 off msrp.. wow !!]

    What say everyone ?
  • lignamuslignamus Member Posts: 9
    Mattchalmers,
Thanks for your response. I am in touch with them (David McDavid) via email and the internet sales manager emailed to tell me that he would match any quote that was given to me. The best I got was the quote I mentioned above. So did you end up buying from them? I'm in a bit of a unique position right now since I am currently deployed overseas so I will not have a chance to take a look at the vehicle before I put a deposit down to hold it. I return in less than two weeks but I'm worried about what may happen to the vehicle until then. I just don't think I would get the same deals if I start looking when I get home. Any advice?
  • mattchalmersmattchalmers Member Posts: 159
I have a deposit down with Frank Kent. While the McDavid offer was about 500 lower OTD, I just didn't feel like it was the deal for me. There was nothing the Internet Salesman, Sales Manager or anyone else did that was "wrong," I just didn't feel comfortable with the deal.

Did McDavid Irving give you an initial quote?

Change your zip code and do a quick quote on Edmunds with Conicelli and Hendrick. The zip for Hendrick is 22191, Conicelli is 19428.

Once you have your quote, send it to McDavid, assuming it is lower than the quote they have already sent you.

The invoice on a 4WD EX-L with RES is 31,763 accourding to Edmunds.com so you should be looking at 28,763 as a fair price right now. McDavid Irving gave me an initial quote of 29.2 for a 4WD EX-L with Navi (32.3 Invoice). Hope that helps. Good luck with your purchase.

If you decide on a vehicle on this side of the Metroplex (Fort Worth, Arlington) I would be glad to go take a look at it for you to confirm condition and accessories. Just let me know. Thank you for your service.

Prices in Seattle are always higher than everywhere else. The best I was able to get for a EX-L 4WD was 27,950, added running boards and the crossbars for an additional 750 from Lynnwood Honda.
  • sharpei25sharpei25 Member Posts: 14
Wow, you did get a great deal! Did you happen to get it fromopen road honda in madison, nj? That was their quote. What was your OTD? Thanks and congrats!

Can you share your sales associate's name and when you purchased how many were on the lot? We're getting the pricing run-around at Bellevue, Kirkland.
  • mjjpowermjjpower Member Posts: 12
You know we live in Kitsap County and had the same problems getting decent price qoutes from Seattle, Tacoma, Lynnwood etc. Finally West Hills Honda in Bremerton gave us what I think was a fairly good deal. We got a 2006 EX (not leather) 4WD for $25,049 plus tax and licensing. We didn't haggle at all...that was our lowest qoute from California and they matched it.
  • khnnkhnn Member Posts: 3
I got it from open road in edison NJ.
    OTD=26,750
They specially procured that trim [06EXAWD] for me in black !
As of yesterday, they have only 4 pilots left [all exl's with navi/res [approx otd:30k]] on the lot which must sell before end of august..

First off, thanks to jcabrera4 for the advice on nanuet honda.

I gathered a bunch of internet quotes including theirs which was 27280 + 45 docking fee, tax and dmv fee. After going back and forth on the phone with other dealers, I called Nanuet back and told them if they make it $26,500 and have Silver or Black with grey interior, they've got a sale. Called me back about 25 mins later, accepted. Went in that night and did the paperwork. I'm including summary of fees as I was looking for this info before purchase and didn't have much luck finding a full breakdown.

    Total summary of fees:
    2006 Honda Pilot EX-L AWD.
    Price: 26,500
    Tax (7 3/8 %): 1954.38
    Docking Fee: 45
    NYS Waste Tire Fee: 12.50
    NYS Inspection: 10.00
    DMV Fee: 187.50

    Total out the door: 28,709.38

I'm happy, the wife is happy, the dealer seemed happy. Transaction was incredibly painless and Honda of Nanuet has a DMV link right in their dealership so when we picked it up today, the plates and registration were on the car. Couldn't have been easier. Hope this helps current shoppers. If you're in the Westchester area, Greenwich Honda quoted me at 27050 including destination as their lowest and Rushmore in Tarrytown went to 26,900 but didn't have my colors.

Thanks to this board for all your help. I remember thinking 32,000 out the door they tried to do at Greenwich at our test drive sounded like a good deal since it was under invoice.
