I'm definitely sold on EX AWD or better on the Pilot. looking for the '06 EX-L AWD w/ RES.
You mentioned that Silver is the the glut out there, how about the silver blue?
Although glv2 makes some good points regarding 2WD-4WD...I just don't see the need in Florida. I'm not towing, mudding, etc.
Ready to purchase ASAP.
Thanks.
Thanks a lot!
Kevin
If you scroll thru the messages the last few months (or search for NY) I think some NY people have posted.

got a quote from a dealer for $27,800 on a 2006 Honda Pilot EX 4WD 5-Spd AT w/ Leather in the Manhattan, New York area. Is this a good price? Anyone in my area getting a better deal than this?
From Edmunds: "Get Dealer Pricing": July 26, 2006:
"Our current Haggle and Hassle Free Internet Sales Quote for the 2006 Honda Pilot Ex 4dr Suv Awd W/leather (3.5l 6cyl 5a) is $25,888" plus $550 destination.
(Yes 4WD/sunroof/XM/leather, No RES)
Paid:
25888+550 = 26438
Invoice:
29730+550 = 30280 (paid 3842 below invoice)
MSRP:
33,045+550 = 33,595 (paid 7157 below MSRP)
I am speaking with Madison now and Bayridge in Brooklyn. Madison seems more interested.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
There a few place around the NYC are selling the 2007 at $500 over invoice. Try Open Road, Staten Island, dch and middletown.
One should also consider the time value of money. Assuming you can save an additional $2,500 today, it is worth the following:
After 12 months: $2,628
After 24 months: $2,762
After 36 months: $2,904
After 48 months: $3,052
After 60 months: $3,208
So the question is, at the end of each of those periods, is the re-sale of the 2007 model greater than those values? If so, go with the 2007, if not, go with the 2006.
That may be way too detailed, but that is really the decision you are making right now, whether you realize it or not.
It is not the difference in value between a 2006 and a 2007 Honda Pilot as of today that matters most.
It is the difference in trade-in-value between a 2006 and a 2007 Honda Pilot in the future - say in 5 years - in 2011 that matters.
Edmunds.com would estimate the difference at about $2,500.
My vote is save over $4,000 today buying a 2006 versus a 2007. In future value - the $4,000 would grow to about $5,000 in 5 years - which would more than offset the $2,500 difference in trade-in value between a 2006 and a 2007 in 2011.
My view was this when I bought my 2006 Pilot a couple weeks ago: there is no change between a 2006 and 2007 so the value in 5 years will be very similar, therefore, save the money now.
In the NY area, all the dealers use Galves, and their prices are much lower than kbb.
Also, you indicate that $4000 will grow to about $5000 in 5 years. That is not bad but the rate of inflation is more than the interest rate at the bank. You also pay taxes on that $1000 interest. If you have money market account or mutual funds; then your taking a chance. That $1000 could be $100 or $10000. I'll take my odds with the market
If someone is looking to get rid of the vehicle in 1 or 2 years, they should probably just lease whichever model year is cheaper right now. Of course leases are still based on sale price, so the 2006 will probably still come out ahead.
for me - paid $842 below invoice plus $3,000 dealer incentive = $3,842 below invoice for 2006 - versus lets say $500 above invoice for 2007 - which is a difference of $4,342 in today's money - which grows in Vanguard NJ tax exempt money market triple tax free at 3.5% - so equals $5,157 in 5 years - which my vote was a bigger number than the difference in value between a 2006 and 2007 Pilot in 2011 - if one has a 5 year time horizon - mine actually longer - which makes 2006 even more compelling.
You are also assuming that a potential buyer has this extra $4342 in their account and can invest that money in Vanguard. Every single one of us has a different financial status.
This can be debated in so many ways. But at the end of the day, the person that is buying the car will have to look all the pros and cons and decide whether to go with an 06 or an 07.
We can only give our opinion to potential buyers as to what price they should be trying to get and what dealers we recommend.
borrow the money / have the money - would still go for the 2006 if owning for a 3-5+ year time horizon - and the difference to buy 2006 versus 2007 is $4,000+.
actually financed the whole thing thru Honda Finance at 2.9% no money down - since my money was earning more tax free at Vanguard.

How does $31,892 compare to dealer invoice as shown on Edmunds.com?
Before the incentive - I paid $842 below invoice in July for a 2006 EX-L. And my cousin paid $1200 below invoice in August for a 2006 EX.
Today it seems people are paying $500 over invoice for a 2007.
All before the additional discount from the incentive which lowers the price another $3000 in July and now $2500 on a 2006.
Thank you.
Your price of $31,892 looks like invoice. Which is good. Does it include the destination of $595? (was $550 on 2006) If it does - would consider it a great price.

best internet quote I can get on a 2007 EXL 4WD w/Navi is $31,892 from Grand Honda in Elmhurst

I think this is the final model year for the current version of the Pilot. When the public gets a whif of the '08's it will mean Honda will have to pour on the incentives. That in addition to the fact that the SUV market is in a dying.
As for your comment about the SUV market dying, I fail to see any market indication to support that statement. While car sales are down, that is a reflection of the overall economy. Gas prices are finding equilibrium and that will make people more comfortable.
Either way, the Pilot is a great vehicle that should provide many years of happy motoring.
Thanks.
I am looking for a Pilot, EX-L, AWD, RES(dvd).
The best prices I have found now are $29.2k for 06 and $31.6k for 07. This is in the San Fran Bay Area.
What is the common wisdom, is saving $2.4k now worth getting the older model? Yes, the difference seems to be the marketing support $$$.
I must say, I am leaning to being cheap and going after the money now...
Thanks.
S.
If you plan on replacing it within a few years, then the blue book value on your 06 will likely be a few thousand less than the 07. So if you are considering trading the car in, then consider spending more for the '07. Otherwise, save your money.
No options --- just the base package.
Price quoted -
$24,288 - no taxes, titles yet
I have to pay $2,000 for leather - extra.
Live in San Jose, CA area. Dealer is a local SJ Area one.
Is this good?
----------------- :confuse:
BTW - this is for 2WD.
1. Since this is a Honda, does it really make sense to have extended warranty?
2. Anyone tried fitting one booster + 2 car seats in the 2nd row? Do they fit ok?
Thanks all!
Recieved best price and had a great experience with Dick Hannah Honda in Vancouver, WA
Best!
IF you can still find 2006. Dublin Honda had a handful of 2006 Pilots a few weeks ago when I bought.
We ended up paying $26,602 ($28,400 OTD) for the 2006 Pilot EX-L in 4WD (silver billet). We bought from Sheehy Honda in Alexandria, VA. They were great to work with. Several other local dealers were competing for our business - but in the end they just could not match this price.
We're happy - and excited about our new Pilot!!
Also, are there low APRs for the '06s or only the '07s?
Thanks.
Thanks in advance!
Use the package info to solicit bids fax(preferably) or email from about 20 dealers around now (end of month) . (This is not hard around Cincinnati using Honda dealer locator)
Most people are getting about $6500-7000 off in an ad-hoc fashion so with a little org and strategy shooting for 8000+ (8500 seems to be the record) is doable. Putting silver among your color prefs may be a winner as there seems to be a lot of them.
happy hunting

Looks like ppl are getting great deals along coasts, like NJ, CA,WA etc. Not so much discount in mid-west regions. Has anyone had better luck recently in cincinnati area, ohio?
It looks like I'll check out the prices on a 06 Nissan Murano before going any further down this path.
I thought September was a good time to buy? Maybe the cheaper gas prices is pushing the price up.
-I just thought I'd share
Anybody out there know of any great deals on the 07 Pilot EXL AWD with Navi? Anybody got pricing yet from dealers?
The dealers in the NY/NJ area are currently offering 4.9% financing but who cares about that when they're asking 34K.
Anyway, the 08 Pilots will be totally redesign, as told by Honda corp., so hopefully these dealers will wake up and offer a better price on the 07 models.
