Purchased a Glacier Blue 2008 CR-V 2WD LX last Sunday for $19,607 (Price + Destination + Dealer Junk Fees) plus Tax, Title, and Tag last Sunday. Only accessory included was Splash Guards.

This was the lowest quoted price after internet inquiry.

    How did I do?

Hey all, so we put a deposit down on a Tango Red Pearl EX-L!

I would rate the experience as good, but I did have to haggle quite a bit on everything but the actual price of the base vehicle ;) I think I left some money there, but in the end it was worth it to me to get this done and make my wife happy heh. I certainly gave them some profit in accessories, but I feel I was fair and got a good deal in the overall walkout price. Also there was one fee I couldnt decide if it was legit or not so I ended up just paying it... DMV registration fee?

The pitch was "hey we price this really aggressively so we cant take a hit anywhere else". So they didnt want to budge on accessories pricing for instance. And the prices they had were far too high in my opinion. For instance Fog Lights that i can buy for 210 online they wanted over 550 from the dealer installed. I understand you need to pay your techs but come on. The manager tells me "Well yeah I can give the Fog Lights to you half price in a box but are you gonna install it?" To which I immediately pointed to the Mats on the sheet and countered "You telling me it costs over 50 bucks to install floor mats? There's obviously overhead in these prices" That shut him up ;)

At the end of the day though, I took a bit of a hit there and negotiated 600 bucks for the Fog Lights, Splash Guards and Wheel locks all installed. Could buy them for 300 online, so they're getting 300 bucks from me for installation. I can live with it. Wasnt worth walking out over. I mean hell they gave me 500 under invoice right off the bat.

I also had to fight for a while on my trade in but hit my number of 18,000.

So base price plus destination: 24,961
Accessories installed. Fog Lights, wheel locks, splash guard: 600
    Total Price of Vehicle: 25,561
    Trade in: 18,000
    Taxed amount: 7561
    Tax: 529.27
    Docs: 188.00
Vehicle registration fee: 254.00 (is this legit? I thought I read it was so I paid it...)
Plus my net pay off for the trade

    All told 17,154.47

I'm happy. Wife is happy. Thanks for all the help here!
  • szerszer Member Posts: 80
Congrats on your new car... personally for me, what I did was to take the accessories to be installed somewhere else which cost me like $100-$120 ( for fog lights and auto dimming mirror). Installation costs on splash guards and wheel locks is close to $0. You don"t even need an hour to complete those tasks.

On the side note, to check the legality, you could call up your BMV / check the website for that. Cheers and have a good day.

I do not want a moon roof but do want leather seats. Honda has said that I need to get an LX and add the leather seats with heat to it. I am in the Cincinnati, OH area. They are giving me a quote around $23200. Any place to see how much leather seats would retail for?

    Check http://www.bernardiparts.com/
Some items are priced even lower then handa...

Thank you again Wanda! I've been doing my homework and you've suggested some things I hadnt thought of.

So here's what the wife would like, after all this will be hers heh ;)

    Front Splash Guards
    Color Matched Door-Edge Guards
    Moonroof Visor
    Door Visors
    Wheel Locks
    Rear Armrest Tray
    All-Season Floor Mats
    Fog Lights

I think I've talked her out of the door visors because I didnt like them, and I added the fog lights because I like them... anyway, MSRP on all of those items comes to $1,049.00. I found them all on www.handa-accessories.com and the total was $692.00, plus shipping. So I have a good starting point!

Hey there Charles, yes I went to Route 23 Honda in Pompton Plains NJ. Specifically went via Costco through their internet department.

Make sure to do the Costco survey and let them know you bought. I believe you get a $50 gift certificate to the dealership for accessories or service.

Yes, it's B. Glad to hear he got the job done for you. He told me he has 3 black cars on the ground in 5-state area, so let's hope he can do the job for me as well. I'll post the result, so other people lokking for Honda in MN could know. Thanks!

Well, he didn't. He has never called back, so I called him today, and he told me he will not have any Navi until January. I cannot blame him for this, I can only blame Honda. It's a pity RAV4 does not have Navi option, and it is even worse CX-7 ride feels too harsh for my wife (we are buying SUV for her), otherwise Honda would never see our money. Although personally I think CR-V is still best value for the money unless you need plenty of power, as well as my own Acura TSX, which is essentially just European Accord. But their marketing is way too bad and they should be punished for it

We are not going to buy a car in January because my wife has grown up in the South and does not like driving in snow, and she also need some time to get used to different car, so I do not want her to have a car change in the middle of the winter. I guess it is also more difficult to sell our old car at that time ('99 Civic with 66K on it, should be OK for private party yet). We will wait until June or July. If Honda will not provide enough Navi by that time, we'll find something else, even if it will cost more.

on 2008 base unit--LX 2wd. The price I was quoted here in Atlanta is 19,599 which icludes the destination charge but not the 499 doc fee. With 7 percent sales tax and tt&L, I'm looking at 21,525.86. From those of you who have done their research, how does this deal sound? Thanks
  • carsavycarsavy Member Posts: 1
I got this quote in atlanta valid only for 30th nov 08 on a CRV FWD
LX with no options except splash guards.

    $19,145 (includes the destionation charge)
499 (Processing Fee includes splash guards)
    1,148 ( 6% Tax)
    21 Registration
    $20,813

I am not sure if this is the best price for this model or will the
year end sales be even better like if i can get few more 100 $ off.
  • winston03winston03 Member Posts: 20
do you mind me asking where? That is about 700 less than my best quote. Thanks
  • matrixva1matrixva1 Member Posts: 21
Dealer has 2007s and 2008s EX AWD in their inventory. How much of a deal would you expect on a 2007 at this point. I'm thinking $500 below invoice is that realistic?
  • kiran23kiran23 Member Posts: 4
We just purchased our CR-V for $26,800 so basically $230 under invoice. The salesman also threw in a cargo mat, wheel locks and door edge guards at no cost (over $200 MSRP value). We went in on the Nov. 30th, last day of the month, so maybe this helped?
  • winston03winston03 Member Posts: 20
I ended up getting mine last night here in Atlanta. Got the LX FWD with no add ons except splash guards and pin stripes. Price was 19,599 wich included destination. I believe that was about 200 under invoice.
  • jaynewjaynew Member Posts: 2
Just leased a new, 08 CRV - EXL this weekend (Glacier Blue) and saw the demand on these vehicles first-hand. Was looking for a Royal Blue one, but unable to find (most dealers said that mid-late Dec was more realistic. Anyway. I got a 42 month lease @ $399/mo, with no money down. My original quote (1st dealer I visited) was for $460/mo w/ $1,500 down, so I'm pretty happy. Worth noting is that I'm on Long Island (NY).

    Happy shopping y'all..
  • zeenzeen Member Posts: 401
Isn't this about $800 below invoice?
  • zeenzeen Member Posts: 401
Dash 5. Keep in mind the installation cost of the fog lights. My dealer wanted $550 installed. They say it takes a good deal of time. For that price, I said forget it.
  • jbealljbeall Member Posts: 6
I just bought a new white CRV that was just built on Nov. 13 and hasn't made it to the dealer yet. It is supposed to get there around the 15th of December. I got the loaded CRV EX-L 4WD with Navigation. They said the next car with navigation they can get will be in March. I bought it at the dealership in Wooster, Ohio. I paid 30585 including tax and other expenses out the door loaded with fog lights, mud flaps, day/night mirror, door edge guards, body side mouldings, roof rack, and chrome exhaust. The price beat the next closest competitor by over 1200 dollars. I emailed 5 dealers and told them I was going to buy a car from the dealer who gave me the best deal. It was really fortunate that the dealer in Wooster had a car on order to be built on the 15th of November. This store is also the third best in the country in selling Honda accessories.
  • dash5dash5 Member Posts: 421
Yah I agree. How long could it possibly take, an hour? Two? Even at 100 bucks an hour that's over charging.
  • deschet33deschet33 Member Posts: 1
Where did you get this deal? It sounds like you really got a good one. I would like to know some more.
  • trex08trex08 Member Posts: 6
I purchased one in mid November for $27,100.
This was the actual buy price. If you subtracted the add on BS that the dealer adds, the price on the top of the sale order was ~ 26,600. Basically told them my price and any doc fees that had to backed out to make it look the way they needed.
The 27,100 included the Dest charge, Doc fee, Splash guards, wheel locks, and paint protectant ( if there really is such a thing).
Local Sales tax was added to this so actual pay amount was greater. I tried to get a Cargo mat thrown in, but no luck he wanted to make $$ on it and I knew I could get cheaper. Ordered one from Bernardiparts.com.
Anyway. Was curious if your 26,800 included all the dealer's doc fees etc.

It would appear you came away with about as good or better of a deal then would be expected for such a hard to find model.
  • szerszer Member Posts: 80
Wheel locks and splash guards cost less than $60(including delivery)... I bought those online. Paint protection? hell I doubt that is just a bogus $$

For my 08 EXL w/nav I bought it for 26600 and the taxable amount is 26657 (57 doc fee)... quite reasonable i should say..

And for those doubters... I paid cash... I dont really have much of a credit background :)
  • johkerjohker Member Posts: 3
Just bought an '08 EX-L 2WD w/Navi for the following:
    $26,400 - Base ($800 under MSRP)
    $635 - Destination
$1556 - Accessories(Trailer Hitch, Wheel Locks, Splash Guards, Cargo Net, Cargo Tray, Cargo Cover, Auto Day/Night Rearview Mirror)
    + TTL ($1118.38 w/trade)
    =$29,709.38
  • szerszer Member Posts: 80
Forgot to add that mine is the 08 CRV EXL w/Nav AWD

    Here is my breakdown

    Taxable Total:$26,657($57 document fee)
    Tax(6%): $1,599
Drive away fee(I am an out of state buyer hence 7 day permit) :$10

    Total: $28,266

I have no trade in and paid by cash
  • amukherjeeamukherjee Member Posts: 3
Yes, about $845.00 below than the invoice price. That price included $635.00 destination fee too. I did not do any haggling on the price. Ed, the sales man, send me their internet price via email and stuck to it. The dealership I got this car from is Honda Village at Newton, MA. Paid cash for the car. The car is fantastic and extremely fan to drive. I am enjoying it. I think I got a good deal on this.

I have an offer for an EX-L 4WD without NAV for $25,704.00 plus tax, doc fee ($55) and license (still don't know how much that will be).

What do you all think about the deal? Do you think I can get any major leverage by waiting for Xmas week or after New Years?
  • naborsnabors Member Posts: 26
Is your "LA" location Los Angeles or Louisiana? If it is Los Angeles, could you list what dealership and the contact you are dealing with? I'm looking for an '08 EX-L 2WD w/out Nav.

    Thanks.

I bought a 2007 Honda CR-V EX AWD for $23,900 last night. Traded in my 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid and I LOVE this car. My buying experience was awesome; same guy that my partner bought his 2006 CR-V SE AWD from. I waited for a long time for the car to be cleaned up and brought around, and finally the sales guy came back and said, "I'm sorry but we're going to have to give you a different car. We have another '07 EX AWD that is black with an ivory interior...very same car." Turns out they were unable to get the sticky protective tape off of the top of the one I picked out. I had to quickly sign all of the paperwork, and then I was out the door!

This is the quote I got from a Sacramento Dealer
OTD $23,581 08 EX 2WD. What do you guys think?
    includes $200 tag
    and 7.75% sales tax
  • kiran23kiran23 Member Posts: 4
26,800 included destination but not the doc fee or taxes. I heard the paint protectant is actually really good and keeps the car looking great after several years. I will check out that website you mention for accessories.. I would like to order some all weather mats.
  • pete22pete22 Member Posts: 80
FYI: I am near Los Angeles. Got an 2008 EX-L with No Nav for 24,899 plus 60 doc fee, plus tax and license at Santa Ana Honda though the internet department. Think I asked for offers though this Edmunds site. I did get way lowballed on my trade in but I believe that they would have given me the price anyway. My trade in was a 2001 Honda Odyssey EX with 129,000 miles on it in great shape but they only gave me 4200 for it (though edmunds said trade in should be 7200 with that mileage). Accepted it since I tried carmax first and got pretty much the same offer. And I was too lazy to deal with sellling it myself.
  • naborsnabors Member Posts: 26
    Pete,

Thanks for your message. Could you tell me who in the Internet Department you dealt with at Santa Ana Honda? Did they stand by their Internet quote?

I'm also looking for an '08 EX-L without Nav but am finding very few in the LA area. Did Santa Ana have a good amount in stock?

    Thanks very much!!
  • trex08trex08 Member Posts: 6
You did well at 26,800 esp without any dealer ad-on fees.
Not much any of us can do about taxes and such so I don't really care about the confusion some of the posts have by including the local taxes etc in the amount listed. In your case U did real well.

? about the door edge guards. I wondered if you thought they were worth purchasing?

One additional thing ( and please consider the source). The Service mgr at the dealer here did not like the Honda all weather mats. His preference was the Husky or WeatherTek products. The cost is similar if not cheaper then the OEM all weather mats. I am still in the deciding phase on which to go for myself.

    Thanks
  • pete22pete22 Member Posts: 80
Think this site restricts you from giving names of people so don't want to get in trouble but let me know if I am wrong. Anyway I think he is the only internet person they have. As mentioned all I did was request an internet quote either though a search or more likely Edmunds. He stood by his quote and even mentioned he was doing so even though they already included wheel locks and mud guards. I was disappointed in the trade in amount but he did mention he didn't care whether I traded in or not so maybe it had nothing to do with it.
I had the car for two weeks now, and even at that time he mentioned he had a few for a couple weeks . I was looking for a certain color (Green Tea) and he called me when it came in. When I last looked I saw a least a couple EX-L on their web site. Good luck, they seem good. Santa Ana Honda seemed real honest to me in terms of telling me when none was in. On the other hand both Huntington Beach, Irvine, and Family Honda (Rancho Santa margaretia) all pulled bait and switch where they said they had 2008 EX-L, only to act surprised that they made a mistake and tried to sell an 2007 Ex-L.
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
I have recently bought either WeatherTech or Husky's for three of our vehicles (vendors don't carry products supporting all of the vehicles). After decades of using generic mats in our vehicles, these custom moulded are wonderful.

Update to my original message .

Spoke with sales manager last week. 2008 CR-V EXL Front Wheel Drive with Navigation on order with no build date yet. Deposit was placed the end of October. Dealership has received info on their December builds that will be here in January. Mine is not among them. Probably means a January build with a February delivery. Again, none in the 5 state area.

Dealership is expecting a AWD any day.

Agreed to $600 more for the AWD version instead of the front wheel drive this week.
    MSRP is $1200 more.

    Break down:

    Base List Price 28400
    Freight 635

Agreed to full MSRP on the accessories below with no install fees. Sure you can purchase the Honda accessories online for around a 30% discount, which would be about a $390 savings. This savings does not including the shipping fees, therefore the savings is even less. Then you still have to install yourself or "hire" it done elsewhere. If accessories are installed by the dealer, same 3 year 36,000 mile warranty as the vehicle. If installed yourself, there is a 1 year warranty.

    Tailgate Spoiler 289
    Wheel Locks 54
    Roof Rack 289
    Front Splash Guards 63
    Fog Lights 319
    All Season Floor Mats 139
    Cargo Tray 105
    Chrome Exhaust Trim 50
3M Scotchguard Paint Protection Film 520

    Total 30863
    Negotiated discount -2013
    Discounted price 28850
    Tax +1682
Documentation and Handling Fee +395 (I know, seems a bit high)

Total out the door with installed accessories is 30927

2008 Honda CR-V EXL AWD with Navigation.
  • crvngcrvng Member Posts: 6
The 3M ScotchGuard Paint Protection Film is not an official Honda accessory.
Located a company online called xpel. You can type in your vehicle and pull up coverage kits.
Then, went to 3M ScotchGuard's website for local install/retailers. Turns out, the Honda dealer we decided to purchase the vehicle from is listed as a Authorized install/retailer of the 3M product. I based the price I was willing to pay on xpel's online pricing. The Honda dealership agreed to the product/install for the price I could order the kits online. My purchase agreement with the Honda dealer includes part #'s P0218C and P0218D as a description of desired coverage.
  • crvngcrvng Member Posts: 6
xpel.com gives an option to locate a dealer/installer for your area. Unfortunately there is no one in our area. That fact led me to look up installers via 3M's website. The film xpel uses is manufactured by 3M.
  • szerszer Member Posts: 80
Here is what I think how it is installed
Tailgate Spoiler (may need some help)? or go to to a workshop
Wheel Locks (easy as a pea)
Roof Rack (same as the tailgate)
Front Splash Guards (just putting it on the car)
All Season Floor Mats (easy to "install")
    Cargo Tray (easy to install)
Chrome Exhaust Trim (easy to install)
Fog lights (same as the tailgate)

basically most of the item you listed are non-electronics except for the fog lights, what are the chances of those non electronics things getting spoilt? Close to zero I guess...

    Hi,

I am somewhat new to all this. Wanted to get an opinion on the following lease deal in the San Diego area.

    2008 CRV EX-L, No Nav
    3 yr, 36k term
lease $415/month including tax, $1400 "down"
down includes 1st payment, cap reduction of $639, sales tax $53, 1st year fees of $238, and $45 doc fees, no sec. deposit

other items listed on the printout i got are
Net Cap cost of 26,090, this includes the 639 cap reduction, so gross of 26,730

I think the MF is standard Honda.

So, is this a good deal. If not, what questions should I be asking to get a better deal.

Finally, I was also quoted $467/month for same car, with Nav. Net cap cost of $27,841...

    Thanks for any help
  • thegraduatethegraduate Member Posts: 9,731
I don't know if you can back out of the deal now, but it sounds like the dealer saw you coming. I'd run as far and as fast as I could from that dealership. Document Fees are garbage, just extra profit for the dealer. Any discount the dealer gave you he made right back up on the accessories, and likely came out better than if you had paid full sticker for the car with no accessories. $31k for a CR-V seems nuts.
