I am shopping for a price on a 2007 4runner SR5 4x4 with moonroof. I cant seem to get a price quote below 29k, with cash back, 30k without, list is 33k. Am I missing something, or do I need to play hardball with the dealers. Thought I could get a price more like 27.5/28 without incentive. Still off by 2k. Cleveland, OH
    Any advice?

You're looking at 5-6k off msrp with all incentives, etc.
Try 10-20 dealers towards end of the month via email and see who is most eager.

    Can anyone confirm this?

On the home page for edmunds.com in the New Car Section, clicking on "Deals of the Month" then selecting
    2007 Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

    shows:

    2007 Toyota 4Runner
    Sport Edition 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

    MSRP $29,975
    Invoice: $26,642
National Base Price (excludes destination charge)

    What does this mean?

Does it mean someone actually bought a Sport Edition for $26,642?

    or

Does it mean that Toyota is offering that as a company incentive?

    Any confirmation appreciated!!

    Disregard this post please.

This pricing is for a RWD 4Runner.
I thought it was the pricing for a 4WD 4Runner which would have been super.

I really don't understand the post but its not unusual for the 4 runner to sell for $5000-6000 off MSRP. A $33000 model selling for 27000-28000 is about what you want.

I wish I had come here before I bought my 4Runner today.

I thought I did my homework on a 2007 4Runner Sport 4WD. MSRP $32,500 and with the optional equipment (6 CD audio, double decker cargo system, the extra airbags, spoiler, running lights, moon roof, tow hitch, and preferred accessory package) and $645 destination, the total was $35717.

I researched Consumer Reports, Edmunds, KBB, Carsdirect and Cars.com. Each came back with different dealer invoices and suggested target prices. Cars.com said $31,884 invoice and $32,656 target price. Edmunds had $31,498 invoice and TMV was $32,492. KBB said invoice was $29,319. CarsDirect said target price should be $30,985. Consumer Reports said MSRP was $32,250 and invoice was $28,674. Their bottom line price was $27,174 + dealer cost for options, which ended up being $29,388.

I went to several dealerships offering the same $35,717 price and no one would budge under 32K. The lowest original deal I got was $32,141. One of the dealerships showed me a car at $35,440 and when I proposed $31,500 they balked and said the lowest they could go was $32,260. I said no thanks and they let me walk out the door.

So I got it for 32K w/o the $1500 rebate as I chose the financing instead (it was only one or the other and not both).

I tried to figure a good price with 6% profit for Toyota (I thought 6% was fair) but was surprised no one would go under $32,000. Maybe it is the area I am in (PA) - ???

I was happy that I got the car under the TMV and cars.com target prices but not happy that I couldn't negotiate under 32K. After reading several pages of recent posts on this thread I really feel like I screwed myself over.

So go ahead and tell me that I screwed myself up because I sure feel like I did. Can anyone tell me what I should have paid??

On a separate topic has anyone bought the extended warranty? I didn't buy it but don't know if I should or not. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
32000 for a 35700 car with good financing (2% or so if your credit is good) is about a 5200 off msrp deal. This is pretty good for someone who did it hit or miss. Check out my message 14394 in the Accord prices paid forum for useful information on how to buy a car for next time. Try to avoid dealer "cost" figures (or calculating how much profit you think they should make) as invoice has been a nominal figure for many models for over a decade. I prefer competitive bidding.

Try to keep the extended warranty to about 1200-1400 for something in the 8yr/120000mi numper to bumper range or about 300 for a 5yr/60k. Interpolate inbetween. Any more than this and it becomes a bit uneconomic. Go to the Toyota website and look up the terms of the warranty. You may be able to call the finance manager at the end of the month of 8-10 dealerships and see who can compete and give you the best price.

Hello! I just returned from my buying experience in Northern Virginia for 2007 4Runner Limited 4x4 V6 w/ FE, GY, NV, RF, RL, SR, TO, S0, E5 (MSRP $42,158.00):

    Price $37602.00
    Proc Fee $369.00
    3% Va Tax $1139.13
    Bus Tax $75.94
    License $56.50
    Total Delivered Price $39242.57
    - Rebate -$1500.00
    Balance Due $37,742.57

No doubt, a GREAT price. However, when I start with the Internet quote of $35,990 + TTL and Proc Fee, I come up with $37,642.21, so the balance above seems to be ~$100 too high. If someone can help me and MS Excel sort this one out, I'll be more than happy to mod this with Dealer Info. Otherwise, I highly recommend Shadow Mica. Happy trails!

    I've been offered 2 vehicles. 2007 Fully loaded 4x4 limited 4Runner. MSRP= $44,979.00. Cost/invoice= $40,409.00.
    Their offer is invoice.$40,409.00.
I will offer him $500.00 less. Any better?
The other deal is 4Runner with same equip. The owner's son has been driving it and it has 6,700 miles on it.
They offered this up @ 1500 below invoice.
I will offer them 2000 below invoice and a full coverage extended warrantee @$1,200.00 At zero cost to me.

The average 29-33k 4 runner runs about 4000-6000 off MSRP. For the higher end models I would think this would be more.

Run your model used 06 model year with all the options with 15k mileson it on kbb.com. If it wholesales 12k or more below MSRP (the lower end models depreciate 10k from list) you want 6k+ off.

Add 15-20% to the price of your vehicle's used wholesale price. This is a practical price target range for a new one.

$1200 should provide you with something in the 7yr/100kmi-8yr/120kmi bumper to bumper range range. It would definitely not be no cost to you as your deal would (and should) be cheaper without it.

    Good luck

I've been tracking the rebates Toyota offers on 4Runners the past 3 years and it usually follows this pattern. If you hold out til the end you get the best deal. Hence the best time to buy in my opinion is September-October and get the outgoing model so you get the $2500 rebate. If you wait til mid-October you'll still get the deal but colors and trims will be limited as inventory starts clearing out. Some people balk at buying at this time of year saying 'but yeah the new car I bought is now a year old'. I say so what. All cars depreciate to zero eventually so why not get a new car with the steepest discount. That's the time to buy.

October through March - $500 rebate on NEW models
April through May - $1000 rebate
June through August - $1500 rebate
September through December - $2500 rebate on the old model - only available after the NEW model year is in

I am looking to buy a 2007 4runner SR5 V6 in the next month. Somewhere down the road I may want satellite radio in the car. I have asked a dealer about getting the 6 disc changer w/ satellite radio capability and he cannot find any models with that radio (its just a basic radio for an extra $200). I am now looking at paying a little more for the radio and getting the JBL radio with satellite radio capability. However, I cannot find any models in the southeast that have the JBL radio and don't have a sunroof. (I really don't want the sunroof) My question is how hard is it to install satellite radio with the basic Toyota radio? I would really like to be able to use the radio controls on the steering wheel to adjust the satellite radio. I am assuming I wouldn't be able to do this unless I had a factory radio with satellite radio capability. Can anyone help? Should I special order the car with the JBL or other radio that is ready for satellite radio?

    Hi Frankil,

Thanks for your really useful info about 4Runner rebates. I wonder if you also tracked the special finance deals of 4Runners from Toyota. Also which region(s) do you keep track of? Different regions have different rebates. I am in PA, and now PA has worse special finance deals than NJ.

Hey everyone - just noticed Toyota increased the 2007 rebate now to $2000 for the 4Runner so if you've gotten a price quote just recently and are considering buying soon make sure you get the extra $500 off they just released.
  • frankilfrankil Member Posts: 5
I live in Chicago. I just go to the www.buyatoyota.com website and plug in my zip code and then see the rebates and offers for each car. The pattern is always the same I see. Once we get to September/October this year the rebate will jump to $2500. That is the time I'm buying.
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Don't wait just because of an extra $500, especially if you are picky on colors and options. The machine will depreciate $280/mo 1st year if purchased correctly and probably 200/mo for a few years after that. So waiting 3-4 months is probably a more than a wash.

    Good luck

I'm looking at the Sport edition 4x4. I don't need to tow anything and am thinking the V6 should be fine. I know the V6 is AWD only at speeds less than 25mph whereas the V8 has permanent all wheel drive. Anyone have the V6 and what do think of the power and AWD? Is it okay or do you recommend the V8?
  • frankilfrankil Member Posts: 5
Anyone know what the purpose of the Hood Scoop is on the sport edition. I know it's the lip on the hood but does it do anything (i.e. air ventilation) or is it just decoration? I envision leaves, snow, and ice getting stuck in there. Anyone have this and what has your experience been?
  • ucscucsc Member Posts: 48
    Hi Frankil,

I have testdriven both V6 and V8 Sports 4Runner several times. I personally think the choice of V6 or V8 largely depends on your driving behavior and your fellow drivers. For sure V6 is not as powerful as V8, but V6 has more than enough to pull 4Runner to 90+ mph. (In Asia, Toyota even puts Tacoma's I4 2.7 engine in 4Runners.) If I have to merge onto highway with cars going 75+ mph, I may have to choose V8.

I plan to buy V8 for its performance, towing power, and less confusion around the driving modes (H2, L2, H4 and L4). But H2 does save gas.

About the hood scoop, I checked it out last year at the dealership. It is just for decoration, but it really looks COOL.

    Hi Frankil,

Thanks for your reply. I live in PA, but plan to buy 4Runner in NJ, as Jersy has better Toyota promotion than PA. It is interesting to see IL has $2000 back/0% APR for 36 months/2.9% APR for 48 months, while NJ has $1750 back/0% APR for 36 months/1.9% APR for 48 months.

I may have to wait until Aug. to see 0% APR for 48 months.

    Hi,

I now own a Camry (my first car) and would like to get a new 4Runner SR5 4x2. I never done a trade-in. What is the best way to get a 4R with the rebates and better price less than invoice?

Should I get a confirmed quote from a dealer through the internet or phone, then go to the dealer to trade-in my camry? Whether I have to meet the same person from which I got the deal fro 4R or I can trade-in my car and show the confirmed quote for the 4R.

Please somebody help me to find a solution since this is my first car deal in my life.......

    thanks

    Hi Guys,
I needed your opinion on a price quote I received. The car is a Black SR5 V6 4Runner with the following options:

    17" Aluminum Wheels (AW):
    Tonneau Cover (CD)
    Carpet Floor/Cargo Mat Set (CF):
    Double Decker Cargo System (CM):
Roof Rack and Cross Bar (DR)
    50 State Emissions (FE)
    Leather Steering Wheel (NE):
    Power Seats (PE):
    Daytime Running Lights (RL)

The total MSRP is $30,300 and the sales rep was saying that his lowest offer is going to be $27,000. I wanted to negotiate lower but he wasn't even willing to go to the manager to see how much better the deal could get. I walked away from the deal but I wanted to know what your suggested offer price would be for such a vehicle with those options. Thanks!
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
These vehicles are regularly advertised for $5000-6000 off MSRP. They wholesale 1st year used for 10000 off msrp so you want about this much or more off. The Honda pilot sells for about 7500-8000 off msrp in now and in August for comparison.

Thanks for the information! This is a brand new one and I figured $5000 - $6000 off MSRP should be a good deal. Should I aim for that or should I try for a bigger mark off? Also, I am guessing that the $5000-$6000 off includes the $1500 cash back right? Thanks again for your response!
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Email 10-20 dealers last week of the month for bids on several colors and your general specs. (toyota website) Let them know in it you are emailing 20 dealers. You are buying before the end of the month. After round 1 give the best 4 or so your cell and work the top 2 iteratively if possible for the best deal. Sometimes last 2 days of the month get interesting.

Yes that includes the 1500 cash back off. What the unadvertised incentives are is as usual, anyone's guess. Only the end of month gig usually smokes most of it out.

    Good luck

Thats what I had planned on doing but most of the dealers are stuck on the idea of "invoice minus rebate" and for them further negotiation seems like a burden. Is that how it usually is?

    1. Went shopping yesterday for a used 4 Runner -- found an '06 Sport 4WD V8 with 13,800 miles Toyota Used Certified, has spoiler, base stereo, power seats, cloth, power sunroof. Toyota dealer is asking $30,991. I was thinking about offering $28k based on pricing off edmunds's estimator, but if you think I should start lower, at what offer should I start? Would wait till the end of the month as well. First used car purchase, so any help would be appreciated.

    2. In Illinois, one dealer offered (on a NEW 4 Runner) 0% financing for 36 months, then after 36 months, 2.9% financing for up to five years. I've never really done a 0% financing thing, so wanted to find out more about it.

Alternatively, instead of the above financing deal, they offered a $2000.00 rebate (also mentioned in recent posts).

Which one would be better to go for? Presuming my credit is as good as I think it is, would it be better to go for the rebate then shop loans to get a better APR off the bat?

Or is the 0% 36mos/2.9% thereafter up to 5 years better? If so, any caveats or loopholes to look out for? What is the advantage for the dealer/Toyota (other than moving inventory -- sluggish SUV sales with gas prices being high?). Basically, is this offer a good one, or should I beware?

Either way, will wait till the end of the month, but if I decide to go new, will play dealers off one another as previously described to find the best deal.

    Thanks!

I am still looking for my 4Runner and it seems that dealers aren't willing to go more than $3900 off MSRP with the rebate included. I am wondering if Gulf States Toyota (the distributor) for the Texas region has price control. Every dealership I have been do stops at the same price. How can I get the car for cheaper than that? What have been your experiences and is there a reason why they don't go more than $3900 because I have seen people here getting anywhere from $5k - $6k off. Thanks!
  • c5t4rc5t4r Member Posts: 13
I can't speak for any price controls - but I'm in Texas. I bought a 4x2 SR5 V6 and only got $4300 off mine including the rebate. However, in addition to the $4300 off sticker they also "threw in" window tint, hood protector, and wheel locks. THis was my first new vehicle purchase and I may have been able to do better because they jumped at my deal pretty quick - I'm not a big haggler, but would have like them to fight a little - but I must say I'm happy with it.

Try to get 10-20 bids end of month via email and work the top 3. Flexiblility on colors and approx MSRP is useful.

Walk-ins are too valuable a commodity for some stores not to yank around and work for top dollar. Walk-ins are 5-10x as likely to pay near msrp than internet buyers (those that get even as little as 3 competitive bids) and are usually treated appropriately.

    Good Luck

I'm in Sacramento, CA and I'm looking for a 4Runner Sport 4x4 6cyl. The best price the current dealership is offering is $200.00 over invoice 31,992.00. I asked to see the invoice because of a price difference with Edmunds.com for $564.00. They are charging a fuel fee of 10.00 and a TDA fee 554.00 (advertising). Has anyone found a better price in the area? I was hoping to do better. This price did not include the rebate because I plan to use the current 3.9% interest rate.

For those of you who have used the Bluetooth setup on the 4Runner, what are your impressions?

What are the impressions of people you talk to regarding call clarity, background noise, etc?

Does the system sync with your cell phones phone book?

I'm interested in this option wich is included with the nav system (actually, more interested in Bluetooth than the nav system but can't buy one without the other) but can't find much information about it on Toyota's website.

Anybody know if there is any way to get some insight into the August cashback/leasing offers? I am lining up a deal on a 4Runner SR5. My wife is terrified we will lose the deal (and the car) if we wait past tomorrow. But Im going to be really mad at myself if I buy a car tomorrow and the current 1750 cashback jumps up to 2500 on Wednesday.

BTW, I dont get any sense that the deal I worked out today will be gone on Wednesday.

    Not positive about this.

I don't think the incentives carry over automatically.

I thought I saw the new/updated incentives come out only

toward the last two weeks of the month.

Have you been checking the Toyota web site for them?

Look up a used 06 model similarly equipped with about 16000 miles on it (kbb.com and nada.com). About 15%-20% more than the wholesale price of a used one should be a useful target range for a new 07 especially this time of year. That should be a bit more than 7000 off MSRP. You may have to pay more if the model is hard to get or you are picky on color.

Hey guys, just picked up my Black SR5 V6 4Runner and heres the deal I got. I want to know if you think it was good or not. Options:

    -Powers Driver & Passengers seat
-Leather Steering Wheel & Shift Knob with Steering Wheel Audio Controls
    - VIN# Etching
    - Window Tint
    - 17" wheels
    - Tonneau Cover
    - Cargo Net
    - Double Decker Cargo System
    - Black roofrails & Crossbars
    - Daytime Running Lights
    - Stainless Steel Door Sill Protectors
    - Vehicle Lusterizing Shield Package
    - Carpet Mats

I paid 25.5k + TTL. I think I did pretty good considering the dealer had a few extras added on that I wasn't charged for. The MSRP on the Vehicle was around 31,9. Thanks

I have inquired at several dealerships both in CNY and downstate. All of the deals seem to be pretty lousy. One deal I received was this MSRP 35007 Sale Price 31755 Residual 55% and money factor of .00181. I want to lease was going to put 2500 down and the payment I was quoted was $435. Seems high to me since I know I can get a RX 350 for 489/month. I think 3500 off msrp is kinda weak considering this is a 2007 vehicle.

Send out several e-mails to the local dealers and one to Carsdirect.com, got e-mail back range from $600-2000 over invoice. Carsdirect was at the invoice(before $2k rebate), so I went with carsdirect w/o negotiation. I have learned that take the quote from carsdirect to a dealer, and they will beat it.(I didn't do my homework).

Here is the deal: Black 07 4Runner 4x2 SR5 with (bought on July 31 for the $2k rebate)
    a)3rd row seat
    b)tilt mooonroof
    c)Black roof rack
    d)Tow hitch
    e)floor mats

    $25,300+TTL, $27,700-OTD. MSRP: $30,800
I think Toyota has increased the rebate to $2500 in August, oh well.....no regret, didn't want to take chance since color selection is going to be a problem as inventory goes down.

Does anyone know if the TMV price includes sale tax? I search all over and nowhere mention tax.

    Thanks for any help.

No. There are too many different tax rates in the many states for that to be useful. You want about $5000-6000+ off an 07 $30k-ish 4runner in any event.

    Good luck

Thanks jfritsch. I got one quote offered at 6k off MSRP but one of the options is Toyoguard Plus so the invoice is a lot less than the MSRP.

So, we went to the dealership last night to test drive and look at the 07 4-Runners. We drove a really sweet silver sport edition and liked the vehicle but still not sure.

The sticker price was 32,500 and they knocked off 2,000 for some deal they have going and then they gave us 4,000 for the trade-in (which was supposedly worth 5,000 on KBB).
So, the price was still 26,500 and that was before TTL which I can assume is around 2,000 plus or minus. When I told them we weren't interested in the vehicle for that price I really expected a counter offer but it didn't come.

While I really like the vehicle it seems to be more than I am willing to pay right now. I flat out asked the guy if he thought a note of around $350/mnth. was realistic and he
said yeah that it was possible but the numbers they came back with would be no where near that. Over $400 for sure.

Is this the best deal I can expect?

In case you haven't seen it, the '08 4Runner is on Toyota's site now. Side curtain airbags now standard and a couple other minor changes. Anyone know of the rebate on '07's is going to increase in Sept and to how much? I'm hoping it'll go up another thousand to $3k.

About 6000 off msrp and if your trade is under 4 years old and in excellent shape (check their guidelines) close to kbb excellent wholesale is a good deal. Check your credit union on financing rates and see what your monthly payment would be for the difference.

    good luck

Sent for a few quotes via web. Got a few back. But none seem to show the invoice price. They just state the MSRP, $40,800 and the internet price $36,840 + Tax and Tags, minus any applicable rebate, which was $2K for August (come and gone). I did give a dealer a deposit, but the car has too many miles on it for me to consider it new. Seems folks are allowed to drive off in the car, then if financing falls thru, the car must be brought back. Since no title work was done, the car is still new per the dealership. Not to me. Been viewing the 2008s and the Navigation System is now portable and much cheaper so I may just wait for things to calm down. But does anyone know how to really calc savings? Would you use $$ off MSRP or Invoice, if you can really find that true cost? Thanks for reading.
