My dealer called and said that DC would shut off orders for 2000 in late December. Have you or any one heard more about this.

The 2000 model year rams are going to be very limited. Your dealer was correct in saying the orders are going to be stopped in late December.

The 2001 ram will then be availble in january for orders. The reason for this move is that chrysler s cafe limit will be breached for the 2000 model year. it means that the total of all chrysler van and trucks, fuel consumption will be over the allowable limit, so there 's only one way to get around this, without facing a huge penalty, and that is to stop year 2000 production, and bring out the 2001 model. Since they go by year haveing the rams being 2001 models there limit will be back under the max requirements, I think it's 25mpgs, but not really sure.

P.S Just bought a 2000 ram 4x4 qc diesel, an just think people who own a 2000 model truck will be owning a special limited model year truck. So 20 years from now you can say that you were one of only handful of owners who have trucks built that model year, plus it's the millenum model, which if they don't make very many this model year, it going to be a shoe in to being a classic in the future!!! So think of it being a special model year!!!

new 2500 ???? do you need a 2500 ? are you prepared for 12 mpg on the highway and less in the city ? not that a 1500 is much better , at about 12 in town and 16 - 17 on the highway with the 360 ... not sure about the 2500 but on my 1500 there is what is referred to as a surge which is caused by the lockup clutch in the torque converter , it like riding on an uneven road , a slight bouncing if you will , between 37 and 50 mph . if you have 3.55 gears and 265 tires it is really noticeable ... there is NOTHING you or mopar can do about it .... other than that , i only had to have an intake gasket replaced TWICE and little nit picky stuff , a major DO to extend tranny life is to have your fluid changed every 15000 miles ,and do the change that replaces ALL the fluid , not just the pan fluid and filter , my first change was just the pan fluid , when i asked the dealer about doing the whole fluid change they told me that would be very expensive , like 400 ... b.s. only cause they are to cheap to buy the machine to do this , the dealer i now go to has the machine says 99 and thats 1o bucks more than the last one with just 4 qts of oil and the filter and gasket , good luck , and let us know your mileage , it will get better once the engine is broken in ...

i see references to ETC and ETH , i am pretty sure that ETC refers to the 24 valve motor but what is ETH ????
  • biknmikebiknmike Member Posts: 27
ETC is the current 24 valve diesel and ETH is the new high output diesel soon to be released.

By the way, "dodgeram" said he got a 2500 diesel which will get closer to 20 mpg highway and 16 mpg city. I believe you are thinking of the gas engine getting such low mileage. Actually, even the gas engine (V-8 or V-10) gets better than 12 highway. I know two people with the V-10 and 4x4 that get around 14 mpg highway.

Sorry, I see now you were talking about "halifaxx" having a 2500 gas engine.
  • johnrr1johnrr1 Member Posts: 70
thanks biknmike , yes i was refering to halifaxx on the non deisel , and i guess that 14 is better than 12 , i know people with ... god help them ... fords and their 3/4 tons only get about 12 ... but then again would you expect anything different from a ford ? as you may notice i am a little biased against ford ... don't like 'em car or truck , i'd rather walk than own one ...

Well...Here goes ... I have had my order in for a 2000 / 2500 QC,4X2,Cummins,6 spd,SLT+,3:54 axle,Anti-slip,Trailer Tow Pkg.,Sliding rear window, since (confirmed by DC) 8/17/99. I have been in contact with DC and my dealer every week since late Sept. On Oct. 6 my call to DC confirmed that my truck was in D1 status(ready to go down the line) as of today Oct.26 my truck has yet to be built. All I get from DC is "Should be soon"(yea! Christmas is coming soon too). To me this seems lame, maybe it's because my dealers allocation is poor or over booked ? Maybe it's because Dodge can't decide which trucks to build 2000/2001? Maybe this truck, as equipped, is to hard to figure out ?
I would hope that orders are fill in somewhat of a reasonable sence, by date ordered, if all parts are available. I am fully aware of the sitiuation with the 6 speeds(40 a day -1000 a month yea, yea), yet dealers seem to still mis-lead customers and say they can get the truck in 8-10 weeks,no problem.(2 that I've been in contact with gave me this line)
I am a paying customer not a dealer who is ordering 50 or 100 trucks for floor stock,I have been waiting for 10 weeks now and DC hasn't even built it. 2 weeks on average just for delivery(Calif.) and I'm looking at middle of Nov. at best. To me it sounds like 2000 will be the [non-permissible content removed] year where they only made trucks for 4 mo.....
    Frustrated
    Trying to stay loyal !!!!

This is probably coming from the engine vent tube underneath near the bellhousing. Maybe piece a longer hose to it and route it futher back.

Yep, the 2001 model will be out January thanks to government regulations. It's all about C.A.F.E.

All the posts that I'v read concerning the 3.54 or the 4.10 vs 245 or 265 tires have been on the diesels. I'm getting ready to replace tires on my '97 club cab, short bed, 360, 3.54 rear end, 1500. I pull 28 foot 5th wheel once a month on weekend camping trip. So does the same advise stick with the 1500 gas? Which I believe ya'll are saying is that I should stay with the 245's. Or does it matter on the gas models? I would like the bigger tires but if that will hurt instead of help, then I'll stay with the 245's. But they of course will be LT's, not the P's that they put on the 1500. Also, any thoughts on the brand. Who's had good riding conditions with what brand of tires? Thanks!

    johnrr1,

Concerning the 'Surge' feeling from the torque converter locking and unlocking. There is a TSB that is supposed to fix this problem. It's number 18-02-99. I had it done to mine, but I have a Cummins in my truck. Not sure if the same TSB would be used for gas engines also. Just an FYI...

yeah, i need a 2500. i have a 1000 foot driveway that needs plowed and two horses that need trailered.

i'd rather upgrade my truck and plow my own drive rather than pay someone. i'd hate to overburden a 1500 with the work i need to do.

Have you TD owners checked out the TDR Website? It is all new and redesigned with an active discussion forum and lot's of new pages. There are both member areas and nonmember areas, but everyone gets to read the forum. It is a great site and growing rapidly. The TDR has over 15000 members so the expertise in the discussions is second to none when it comes to knowledgeable people helping other diesel owners. The site is at http://www.turbodieselregister.com/

With the news that Dodge may change the Ram to model year 2001 in January does it make sense to wait until then to purchase a new truck? Will the 2001 available in January be identical to the 2000.I've seen some discussions about the ETH diesel being available then, but only on a manual transmission. I'm not interested in a manual. What will the 2001 do to the value of a 2000? Would you wait for the 2001 or go ahead and get a 2000? Any input would be helpful.

I placed my order for a 2000 Ram 1500 SLT QC 4x4, auto, 5.9L, 4.10 rear, off-road pkg, towing pkg, etc. in patriot blue/lt. driftwood on September 7th through www.carsatcost.com.

I've been tracking it through Chrysler and the railroad systems. I just pulled the UPRR status on my truck, and it's reached the end of its train ride. It should be delivered to my door next weekend!

My 2500 4x4 qc diesel 5-speed has been released from the plant and is waiting for a ride to Georgia. I ordered on 8-27. Originally ordered a 6-speed but it wasn't looking so good, so I changed to the 5-speed. I hope I won't be disappointed. Should be able to pick it up by the 13th of Nov.

    littledakota,
Let me know how you like your 5-speed.

Car-truck.com, says it has received confirmation from DC that the next generation Ram will have the HEMI v8 , based on the new 4.7l powertech v8. The first will be the 5.7 litre HEMI.

Sorry about the lack of attention lately, crew. Overtime at the day job, new PC (and trying to restore and reinstall all my stuff) - all add up to limiting my time to my assigned conference (Smart Shopper), but my time is a bit more relaxed for now.

I am a classic victim of Murphy's Law. If I didn't switch I prabably never would have gotten the truck, but because I did switch, everyone else is starting to get theirs. Oh well, just my luck. I hope yours arrives on schedule. Mine was released by the plant on oct 26 and is still sitting, waiting for a rail car.
My Birthday is on the 13th of Nov. and I was really hoping to go pick it up on that day. Now I don't know.

    KCRAM,
Just wanted to let you know that my new RAM should be here the last week in November or first week in December. The delivery date is scheduled for November 5th. The order was placed October 1st. Not too bad. The truck is Black Sport SWB QUAD, SRW, 4x4, TT, HDSG, SLT+, tan leather, CD. I am getting really anncy now. What is this I hear that they are stopping production and 2000 Ram's are going to be collector's edition model's. Is this true or just a myth. Thanks for the advice earlier on what to do when I get it.
    Sincerely, Bob

Does anyone have any information regarding a change in the body style for the Ram? I would suppose 2001 would be a good year for it, but it seems that they may be in a hurry to release in January. Do you suppose that there may be a new style in 2001 1/2? Lots of automakers have done that in the past.

    Comments? Thanks.

I will be receiving my 2000 2500 QuadCab 4x4 v10 4.10 rear this next week. Does anyone have any insight or opinions on adding a K&N filter and muffler such as Flowmaster with dual exhaust pipes? I heard to do dual pipes out the back, the spare tire had to be removed b/c of the heat. True? I've seen several Dodge trucks with the dual pipes coming straight out the back.

Too many Rumors! Nobody has a straight answer. After spending the afternoon trying to find out if the 2001 Ram will be available in January and if it will be available with the ETH auto combination I decided to put my order on HOLD. I called the dealership and they said they are being overwhelmed with questions about the 2001, ETH, upgraded automatic etc. The local dealership said the factory representative would be there next week and they intend to ask a lot of questions about the 2001 RAM. They were very polite and put my order on hold till mid December. Hopefully some answers will be available by then.
GOOD LUCK to anyone else struggling with this.

The 2001 Ram is exactly the same as the 2000 Ram. As mentioned a few posts back, DaimlerChrysler is shortening the model year so that they don't excedd their CAFE rating, because they have no credits this year. On the other hand, the PT Cruiser is a 2001. And very economical fuelwise, being built from the Neon platform. And will offset the 360 V8 used in the Ram, Dakota, and Durango. Thus, after January 2nd, Ram production will be MY2001. (Remember, the PT Cruiser is a truck by law.)

The ETH Cummins diesel will show up with the 2001 Ram. It will be offered with the six speed manual only for now. The 2002 Ram wuill be the new body style, but like Ford, only the light duty platform will be introduced. The heavy duty Rams will wait a year extra. The 2003 HD Rams will feature a brand new Cummins and will offer a substantially stronger automatic for both the diesel and the V10.

Hope that helps some decision making.

I've just got back from my last little trip with my Chevy towing my 27 ft Prowler. We've been off road and without 4x4 I don't think I would have made it. Got my 5th flat with the Chevy. 50K. Almost hate to see it go, but am anxiously waiting for my Dodge. You said 5 weeks, how lucky. My dealer said 10-12 weeks. I ordered it September 14th. I'll call Monday and see what its status is. I believe mine is simalar to yours except I am getting the 4.10 rearend.

I'm pretty new to the 5th wheel business, but if you have the extended pin box you don't need the sliding 5th wheel. Also they are over $2500 where a regular hitch shouldn't be more than $500. The only place the sliding hitch is needed is if you have a short bed and a regular pin box as I understand it. I have the short bed with my Chevy and the dodge I have ordered. Also I have the extended pin box and I have never had any trouble turning sharply.

My trailer has one slide out and weights 7000 empty, 9000 gross. My wife would like a double slide and thats the reason I got the 4.10 . To give me more options than I had with my Chevy in picking our next camper. Problem is I have only been towing a year, and I'm doing much better in tight spaces, but most of those she likes are around 33 feet long. And I can barely make the turns going to our favorite spot in the woods with the 27 footer. I don't know if they make doulbe slides that short. I may have to cut some trees (G).

Looking forward to the Dodge, V10, 4x4, auto and 4.10 SLT+. We are leaving the first of the year for Arizona. Plan to get a few miles on the truck plus a test run before the big trip. Rich

I picked up my 2000 2500 SB in sept. and loved it! I got the SLT+ package with the 5.9 gas. I did not notice any "shimmying" problems with my 265 tires. I live in alaska and have since bought some winter tires. I bought the new Nokian LT's. wich should be excellent tires. I got the 235/85R16's as they are about the same diameter as the 265's only they are about 2" narrower. Since then I have had nothing but problems. Around 45 to 50 MPH I get a shimmy, it kinda goes away if I am in 4WD. I have had my tires and wheels back to the shop for ballancing and they have done their best but I still have a shimmy. Yesterday it snowed quite a lot and I was able to really test out the way the tires acted. I hated it. The roads were hard packed, but since the plows never came the tire paths were actually a little raised compared to the undriven on part of the road. My problem there was the front end wanted to get off the crown bad. It kept wanting to go left and right pretty much for the whole 15 mile drive. Would a wider tire help my predicament a little? Should I go back to the 265 size? Any help or comments?

Can anyone recommend a good Tunneau Cover that will open like a hatchback. Is the one in JC Whitney any good? What should I pay for one of these?

I have heard of a modified K&N Filter for the Dodge Ram. Does this really get more Horsepower and what model number is it? Is it easy to install?

The original word on the 2001 was there would be no significant changes except the ETH would be available. But now there are rumors that other changes may be coming. I called 1-800-4adodge Friday and just got the runaround. They said they could not comment on anything till 1/1/2000. Here is a copy of an article that refers to the possible changes. This can be found at

    http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/buzz/b102899.htm

But here's the big news, an inside source tells me that diesels equipped with an automatic transmission will be bumped up from their current 215 hp / 420 lb. ft. to the same output as the five-speed equipped Rams. Notice I said "an Automatic" instead of 47RE. As I understand it, the 47 RE already has difficulty handling the diesels massive torque output. So how has Dodge solved the problem?

Good question . . . I'm not sure, here are three possible scenarios. The first is that Dodge will introduce a super heavy duty evolution of the 47RE (48RE?) In January. The second, they will debut an all new DC built transmission.

Several months back I told you about a heavy duty
five-speed automatic codenamed "Brute." The Brute has been developed for use with the Charger and Copperhead (if it's built). It's also been considered for use with the next generation Viper (though my source doesn't see that happening). Like the Autostick, the Brute can be shifted manually. The buzz is that DC has also designed a version of this transmission for the Ram truck.

The third scenario has Dodge using a transmission from an outside supplier, the five-speed Allison T1000 transmission seems to be the leading contender. The electronically controlled transmission can handle up to 545 lb. ft of torque, so the turbo diesels output wouldn't be a problem.

I see a lot of questions posted on this board that go unanswered from the other participants that are ordinary Dodge Ram owners (like myself).

We don't have a diesel with problems and we're not in a quandry as to which gear ratio to buy. Unfortunately, the only answers that seem to get posted anymore are about how you can get 15 mpg out of your diesel instead of 14.5 mpg and what the turn radius is if you're towing a 37 ft 5th wheel through a hairpin turn in the Colorado Rockies.

I would like to see more information on the Dodge Ram in general and less on the technical specifications on the diesel engine torque converter.

If you guys are so fetishly infatuated with a obnoxiously loud and nauseatingly smelling diesel engine, then please create your own topic. The last time I checked, this topic was for the 2000 Dodge Ram in general.

Well I am sure that I speak for most everyone here when I say we want to help (hey we drive Dodge's don't we). It is kind of difficult to come up with something meaningful unless in response to a question however.

Sure we could all rant and rave about our trucks, but would that gain much, probably not. Halifaxx if you have observations, questions, concerns or anything else remotely Ram related that you want to share then please do so - rest assured if anyone has anything to comment on regarding your post they will do so.

I though Dodge RAMS also came in diesel? That would imply to me that questions about diesels are general questions. Maybe halifaxx should have his own topic that only relates to his specific truck (the pretty gas hogging, earth polluting beast. No offense to the intelligent truckers.):)....If you do not have the cognitive ability to consume a little technical information change the channel. The cartoon network is just a click away.

Does anyone know a make and part number for a Bug Deflector that will fit a 2000 Ram 1500 QC?

I ordered a Lund Avenger P/N 72067 that was supposed to fit but the mounting holes do not line up with the grille attachment screws. I can't find the 2000 Ram listed on any manufacturer's web sites.

Any help from someone who has actually installed a bug deflector on their 2000 Ram 1500 QC would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Hi, guys, new to the board. Diesel discussions are a bit beyond me, but like a lot of you, I recently ordered a 2000 Ram (last week), and I'm curious to know how my buying experience compared with yours.

Mine in brief: I ordered a 2000 Ram 1500 4X2 SWB Sport, black, 5.9L, auto, SLT+ ("H" package and SLT+ Decor). Nice truck! Invoice was approx. $24,925. I paid $100 over invoice, plus $475 regional advertising fee and the usual crap (tax, title, etc.). The dealer, in Clearwater, FL, advertises itself as the largest-volume Dodge dealer on Florida's west coast (i.e., Tampa Bay). When I first contacted them by email, they quoted me as low as $200 under invoice. He kept going up and down, and when I pretended I was going to walk away from the deal, he came up with an additional $500 rebate, which you get simply by joining Farm Bureau for a year at a cost of $35.

All in all, I think I got a pretty good deal. I dealt with no retail people, only their Internet guy, and with the Farm Bureau rebate, came in at almost $400 under invoice. (Needless to say, there aren't a lot of farmers in Clearwater, but when I called Farm Bureau, they had no problem with taking my $35 and giving me the $500 rebate.) The advertising fee seemed steep, but all the dealers I checked with said they had no control over it. (Another dealer in Tampa wanted $450 for advertising, was willing to match $100 over invoice, but wanted a $140 "delivery fee" -- a pure dealer add-on -- and said nothing about the rebate.)

Anyway, I'm hoping to get the truck before the holidays. I'd be curious to know how others did with pricing, what they paid for regional advertising, and whether they got the Farm Bureau rebate.

A little suggestion. Before reading a post, scan over it looking for any numbers with two integers or the words "diesel", "radius", "torque", "converter", or any other multi-syllable words that might challenge you. Pass that post up and look for an easier one. You can leave that post for us Extra-ordinary Dodge people. Better yet, you should start a new forum titled "Ordinary Dodge Owners" or "Remedial Ram Discussion". You could talk about "how to parallel park" or "rolling up your window".

I have a 2000 2500...you need to be careful if you have a sport because the bug deflectors that fits the standard won't fit the sport. The sport model will fit the standard? Believe it or not the mopar deflector is probably the best bet. You do have to drill four holes under and into the grill. The other drawback is that it is $95.00 bucks from your Dodge dealer (includes all three pcs). It is, in my opinion, the best looking one I've seen.
  • madmackmadmack Member Posts: 39
You got a good deal.....one more trick, if you can get a business license for cheap you may, through your dealer, get and extended warranty on your drivetrain for free. Its a new business partnership program through dodge. I was with my fleet manager as he was being briefed on this new program. I was told I had a month to give them proof on my business lic. cause I let mine expire. Your dealer may not know about this since it is fairly new. That was my understanding.

halifaxx , why so bitter toward the diesel ? is it that you couldn't justify the extra $$$ to get one ? i'm in the same boat , but i'm happy to see all the posts about the diesels , since i'm doing what i should have done when i bought my 98 .... spent the extra and got the diesel , it would save all the b.s. me and the wife are going thru now about me trading in my 18 month old truck , .... have you DRIVEN a diesel ??? its not as load inside and it doesn't smell as bad as driving behind one ... hehehhehehehheheehe ... andy jordan , i didn't know you were a dodge guy , i thought you were a toyota freak , now i see why you jumped all over that tp4unc ... he needs to buy a dodge
