rockabout - I'm based in So Cal as well and the best I have found was 500 over invoice, after much, much haggling. That is on an ordered truck from Ford, which the dealer told me could take 3 months! What dealership did you score your deal from and how high over invoice did you finally nail down? I get the sense that these dealers are all willing to wait for buyers to go for their available stock at way, way over invoice (1500 plus) then order one from Ford at a substantial savings to the customer. In other words they know demand is high and aren't really interested in selling units at a big discount. This may change with time, but...BTW: I was shopping for a Dakota Quad prior to settling on the Ford and it was the same story there for So Cal dealers. Terrible price quotes.
Curious how many dealers you shopped before taking delivery? Did you order or buy off the lot. thanks
Asta - I bought my SuperCrew from Ken Grody Ford in Buena Park (Beach Blvd and the 5 frwy). I paid $1400 over Invoice. Yeah, yeah, ok, well I was sick and tired of waiting. I have been shopping for this truck for about 3 months going to every dealer in southern Orange County. This vehicle was on the lot, and setup about exactly the way I wanted it. I was interested in getting a better deal, but not having to wait any longer. At the time, I was impressed that I got him down that far. They knocked off $2520 from list price. I got the impression it was just as you said, they didn't have to deal at all! So, once I got him down in the area I wanted, I just jumped in and bought it. To me the extra $1400 over invoice was just satisfaction knowing it was over and done with. I GOT THE TRUCK! And by the way, there were tons of people there looking, so I really felt at the time like I got a deal. We must think alike, cause I too was previously shopping for a Dakota Quad Cab before settling on the F150 SuperCrew. I have no regrets at all! Good luck to you! Let me know what you end up with and what kind of deal you get. -Rockabout-
Check Mossy Ford in San Diego as well. There are the "one price" dealer in town. I was looking at the 4X4 Lariat there for $30,154...I think that was $3600 below sticker. I know their regular pricing is to sell at $450 over invoice...though I can't say that is what they are doing on the Supercrews. They have a great selection as well. I think they said they had over 80 Supercrews in their inventory 2 weeks ago when I was there. Good luck...
thanks k2rider - I'll check out that San Diego dealership. Rockabout - I was checking out Orange County dealers as well - well, actually just Tuttle Click in Irvine and Ford of Orange. The guy at Orange went down to 1K over invoice on an ordered vehicle after checking with his manager and I told him he was not competitive at all. Already had a 500 over invoice on the same truck. My sense with these dealers is they must deal with a lot of buyers who do not properly arm themselves with all the great info available on the Web. One dealer, in Costa Mesa, told me that I have excellent "Self-control" after we had haggled for about 30 min on the phone. She said what can I do to sell you this truck and I said: lower your price. It ain't brain surgery. As for the self-control - I guess she must encounter a lot of people who plunk down 30K plus without thinking about it!!! These dealers just piss me off to no end - they will bargain and hide fees down to the penny, but when you the customer try to haggle, they take offense. As if they're in total control and we have nothing to say about it. What a weird way to make a living....
Will keep y'all posted on my deal. BTW: anybody out there seen the "chestnut" color the Supercrew is offered in? Is it brown? Reddish brown? Or what?
If your looking for floor mats for your supercrew or any vehicle. Check out, http://www.foxweatherboots.com/ We bought a set for her Durango, excellent product. Each mat is a custom fit for that vehicle. I ordered a pair for my supercrew. I called the company on the phone and the gentleman told me that the mats lisited under (Ford Expedition/Navigator part #298) will fit the front of the supercrew. It will be two to three months before the rear mats are available.
I don't have any interest is this company. I just thought I would pass along an excellent product.
I was frustrated at my saleman playing games and his salesmanager overheard me telling him how full of ---- he was and that I had thought the old school method of selling cars was over. The Salesmanager told me" Well you can't blame us for not trying to miss a stupid one"..Meaning: some people will cave in and pay top dollar for a vehicle,,I told him that was the first honest word I'd heard from his dealership..i then ordered my truck at the price I felt comfortable in paying.
4000 miles and all is well. No problems other than the front window weather stripping. My Super Crew still runs as well as the day I got it off the lot. I've made two trips to the land fill. Sure nice to have that bed back there. MJohn
Has anyone had any luck locating dealers in Oregon or Washington with Supercrews on their lots? I've only found one and they only had 2 trucks. If you have bought a 2001 F150 in the Northwest, did you order or buy off the lot and would you share what you paid for the truck (above invoice?). Any info would be appreciated.
clshaw17 - thanks for that tip. I actually had the same idea as you - I live in LA and my neighbor down here always buys his vehicles (ram truck, old Jeep, chevy truck) up near Bishop, CA, which is a small town in the Eastern Sierras, not far from mammoth mountain ski area. He drives a lot from southern to northern cali and this town is on his route up north. anyway I griping to him about all these greedy so cal dealers and he said to call up some dealers in the small towns. Well, I called his dealer in Bishop and the guy quoted me 2500 over invoice! I was shocked! He did follow up with me and was super cool and easy to deal with, but he said because there in the boonies and get such a tiny allotment from Ford, they don't have much wriggle room on price. I told him I'd be ordering direct from Ford, and he couldn't really do much better. Now, maybe it's just this guy at this one dealership, but it threw me for a loop. I'm back to dealing with the big city LA dealers and hoping to find one that's not a greedy you know what.
I broke down and got mine last night at Mossy Ford in San Diego at $450 over invoice...and that was the no haggle window price. I bought the XLT, 4WD with all the "Lariat" stuff except coded doors and leather. I'm going to get "Line-X" tomorrow and "Lojack" next week. the only other thing I want is the chrome side-step bumpers instead of the cheezy black running boards Ford offers. I called Off-Road Warehouse and "Smittybilt" is working on tubular chrome steps now. they said it will be up to 90 days before they have them in.
congrats on the new ride, k2rider! Was that a vehicle you bought right off the lot and drove home? If so, that's a good price. Anything under 500 over in So Cal is a good price, for sure. You might check Pace-Edwards, the guys who make the rolling bed cover, about chrome steps. They sent me a catalog and in there was a nice shot of chrome and/or color keyed steps. Not sure on price as they did not list it. Check out their website: www.pace-edwards.com for more info. Let me know where you find those steps as that's what I want for my truck as well as the line-x (I think) Did you investigate other bed cover applications beside line-x?
azordway--glad you were able to check your screw status...mine is in the book, which I was told meant going through assembly then another 8 days to winston salem via rail then delivered to dealer...im amazed you got yours so quick,,was it already on order by the dealer?
I was all set on the Rhino liner but then got talked into "Line-X" by a couple guys. I've never liked the cheezy plastic looks of the regular bedliners. Both Line-X and Rhino have websites you can check out too. I'm paying $339, it goes in at 8:30 and they say 2-3 hours tops for the whole application.
"k2rider" Look in the Ford Trucks Accessories catalog, they heve several types of steps, rails etc available for the Super Crew including Chrome Tubular Steps, good luck.
k2rider - I've heard better things about the line-x, mostly on this board regarding appearance and slippage factor. I'm not crazy about the fact it's semi-permanent. I wish they made custom-fitted bedliners that could be pulled in and out out of multi-purpose surfaces, i.e. outdoor carpet, rubber matting, and something more durable for rough loads. I see that you're located in Oceanside - one of my good buddies from high school lives in Encinitas. We surf together down there quite a bit. I told him I was considering the Supercrew (he drives and Isuzu Rodeo) and he was like "I don't get it? Who wants a truck with such a small bed? Why not just get a big SUV which is already enclosed! Like a Suburban"
Guess there are still quite a few disbelievers out there with regards to the short-beds. I'd love to hear from any other posters whether they are using the cargo cage for longer loads and how it affect gas mileage, if at all.
BTW k2rider: I just got quoted 200 over at a dealership up in LA (Chatsworth) on an ordered truck only. He also said he would sell me a Ford Premium Care X-Warranty (5 yr, 75K or 5yr 100k) for his cost (965 and 1450 respectively). Is that a good buy on the x warranty????? Anybody out there shop around on 3rd party warranties other than Ford? Thanks.
Just to reaffirm an earlier email. Mike Buckley at Al Bilton Ford in Holly Hill, SC (between Columbia and Charleston) is offering 2001 F-150 Supercrews at $200 BELOW invoice. Just put in my order for a 4x2 Lariat. His detailed invoice matched exactly to KBB and Edmund's websites. There were two additional charges for gas ($18) and regional advertising ($130). I called Mike and told him the options. Ten minutes later he faxed me the quote. He then mailed me a bill of sale and ordered my truck. Delivery in 10-12 weeks. Whooppeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
150dad - I ordered mine from scratch. Berge Ford has an extremely high priority code for dealers here in AZ. As of 5/7 the truck is supposed to be at the rail yard here in the Phoenix area. Hopefully, delivery will be within few days.
k2rider- Congratulations on the new purchase. You definitely got a fine deal on your purchase. Question about your Lojack, Can you tell me what price you are getting quoted? I am serious about getting Lo myself. Also, about the chrome running boards (or tubes as they are), be careful about buying some of the aftermarket rails. Check the warranty on the chrome plating. If its not at least five years, forget it. There are some real cheapy running rails out there. I ended up buying mine from the Ford Dealer in Tustin CA. $400 for the pair, but they are a FORD built product and garenteed not to peel. By the way, got 500 miles on mine now, and I love it more than the day I bought it!
asta: They offered me a 5 year "bumper to bumper" for $975 but it already came with 3 year for free so I figure I was paying the $900+ for just 2 years. I never buy the extended warranties but may check into after-market policies. This is only my 2nd "American" car and 1st since 1986...I haven't found a need for the warranties with my Toyota's and Honda's. I figure if Ford is good enough for Mark Martin, then I ought to give it a run. I didn't get the bed extender yet but my friend does have one and I've seen him use it when he loads his dirt bikes in. His is really sweet...it's actually an after-market brand and not Ford's. it looks cleaner and lighter.
rockabout: Thanks. I may go by that Tustin shop. I'm always up there since I grew up in Irvine and my parents still live there. I haven't seen those chrome step tubes/rails at the dealers down here.
I only have 50 miles on mine so far...going to rack up the mileage on the 93 4Runner until it gets sold.
Picked up my vehicle this evening - all is perfect. Ordered 1st week in April and took delivery today - Not Bad! We traded a 97 Expedition which drove nice but this vehicle shames that ride.
Ordered mine yesterday. $600 over in San Jose. White with Med. Graphite interior. For any business owners out there, with the 5.4, the Screw GVWR is 6600 lbs., which allows you to write off the whole enchilada in 5 years instead of 10. According to my tax lady, the first year you can write off 17,000 instead of 2,000. Amazing. 6500 lbs. is the cutoff point. Any body else heard of this?
XLT 4 X 2. 5.4. Towing. Sliding Window, Power Dr. seat, ltd. slip, cargo cage. Plan to upgrade the stereo later.
Smith24- I shopped around at quite a few places. What I found was most truck accessory stores either didn't have the running boards, or what they did have was junk. I ended up ordering the chrome tubular boards from Joe McPherson Ford in Tustin (talk to Tim McQuillian). They arrived in less than one week. They sold me the boards for $400 which was the same price I was quoted from some of the after-market places for cheaper stuff. And these are a FORD built product with warranty. Can't beat it for quality. If they peel, you get a new pair. You can find cheaper stuff out there, if thats what you want. Good luck.
Rockabout - is that Ford dealership the one inside the Tustin auto center?? Pretty close to ordering my supercrew - I keep seeing Dakota Quad cabs around Orange County and I suddenly get confused about which vehicle to go with. Haven't seen many supercrews on the road yet. also, did the tustin dealership install the chrome steps for that $400 price, or did you have to do the install yourself? thanks.
Anybody know of any shops/catalogs that have stuff for the Supercrew? I don't really have anything specific I *NEED* but I may run across something I *WANT*!!!
Check out www.f150online.com. I was interested in a Tonneau cover that wasn't listed. I wrote them and they do carry it for the SuperCrew. There are also message boards. It's a pretty cool sight to browse. My SuperCrew is due in any day now.....I CAN'T WAIT!
asta - Yes, the Tustin Auto Center is the place. Just off the 5 frwy. No, that $400 was cash and carry. I put the boards on myself. They fit perfectly and look great. It was a piece of cake. Had it done in about an hour and ahalf. Would have been done sooner, but had my 4 year old "helping" me. Ha! Well, he loves the truck too! I see you are going back and forth between the Quad Cab Dakota and the Ford Supercrew. Well, so was I before I got my S-crew. I have no regrets. Actually I enjoy rolling up beside one of those smaller Dakotas now and looking down on them and smiling. I know I bought the right rig for me. My S-crew is only a 4x2 but it sits up so high, it looks like a 4x4. You probably sit a good foot higher than you would in the Dakota. And you don't feel stuffed in either. My eight year old has enough room to change into his baseball uniform without kicking the seat in front of him. ITs the right truck for me. Good luck!
I went to Home Depot tonight and loaded 4 sheets of 3/4" cdx plywood in the back. It stuck out about 6" past the lowered tail gate. This will probably be the largest form of lumber that I will put in my truck, and it fit just fine. I can't tell you how good it felt, not to have to put it in the back of my blazer. This confirmed my choice of buying this truck. Plenty of room for friends and family, and a decent size bed for my Home Depot projects. I'm approaching 2000 miles and haven't had any problems. I couldn't be happier with it :-) PS (asta) I parked next to a Dodge Crew Cab. Watched the guy get in and out of it. It just looks too cramped , for me. PSS (I know I'm going on & on)I'm Driving down the street today in Hunting Beach, when my exact truck is heading in the opposite direction. It felt like a John Woo film, slow motion as we were passing, checking each others truck out. We gave each other the "nice truck nod" and went back to normal picture speed. I thought it was kinda cool. Later
Asta, still thinking of the Dakota? I had decided on it. I was real disapointed when I read Consumer Reports. One of the used cars it said to avoid was the 1999 Dodge Dakota. Then, I saw one (it was an extended cab Model) with a for sale sign and it looked new. At the light, I asked the driver why he was selling it. He said the ride was real rough and that the auto transmission was always shifting. Then I checked out the consumer reports crash tests. I'm getting the four doors for the family. 'Nuff said.
I saw a truck with a hard, lockable tonneau cover with small, removable racks mounted on it. anyone know who makes those or where to get them?
I seriously considered the Supercrew myself, before deciding on the Quad Cab, basicly because the additional overall width of the Supercrew was not a real advantage for me. Otherwise, I thought the two trucks were very close. The bed sizes were the same, and the cabin leg room & head room were the same. I compared the 4x4's with the base v8.
to those ordering...i ordered mine on 03.20.00 priority 10..im still waiting...over 8 weeks..its at the final ramp at railyard and has been since the 23rd....ive asked the dealer, to pick it up railside but they wont...ive tried elsewhere today to just buy off anothers lot but cannot find exactly what i want...dealers are saying that new orders are not being processed until july...i guess ill keep waiting...i also talked with al binton ford, himself, and you must order to get $200 below invoive..hes a good guy
mine too was ordered 3-22-00. It's been built, shipped and is at the ramp since the 25th. If I don't get it Monday it will be another 7-10 days as I will be out of town. Good luck to you...
Just picked up a washer and dryer and had no problem getting them in the back. Even had room to spare with the tailgate up. I could not even feel the heavy load while driving at speeds up to 65. I have the 5.4 liter engine. The line-x worked very well with no slipping or sliding. I'm at 5000+ miles now and absolutely no complaints. MJohn
local dealer had the first add I have seen for the Supercrew. Not much detail except it said msrp was $28,405 and price in the add was $24,995. Doing some quick math to determine the spread between invoice and msrp on Edmunds' website, it appears to be about $300 above invoice. Not bad for a printed ad. Definitely gives you a negotiating tool. Hope this helps someone get a good deal.
Called the commercial number and spoke with Mike Buckley. $200 under invoice is the deal. If you live in the southeast, you can't beat this deal. Compared to the $500 over invoice deals, you can pay for a flight to Charleston, a cab to Holly Hill, a night in a hotel, and the gas back to your home town.
Has anyone ordered with the TV/VCR option? Just wanted to know your thoughts. Also, anyone have a decent dealer in the nashville or surrounding areas (clarksville). Returning from Kosovo in October any ideas on an ordering time frame. Thanks to all for some great info.
ps. Has anyone checked into zeibarts version of the spray-in liner?
I read in some mag that ford will bring out 2 new diesels a 4 and 6 liter the 6 to replace the powerstroke. Anyone have any information on the supercrew with the new diesels? A friend has a f250 supercrew with the powerstroke and loves it. But i heard that the powerstroke would be replaced.
Glad that Mike at Al Bilton in Holly Hill, SC could help you out. After talking with Mike and reviewing this site, there are a lot of very happy Southeastern F-150 Screw lovers. Congrats.
Hello Everyone...just picked my SuperCrew Lariat 4X4 last night! It's great! They really did a nice job! It was well worth the 10 week wait. I hope all of you enjoy yours as much as I will mine. Thanks for all the advice and comments here.
I have a 2000 F-150 Lariet 4X4. Its not a supercrew but it is an extended cab. I hope someone can answer this question. I have the nice stereo with the 6disk changer and all, but i cant fix the speed sensitive volume thing to work. The manual says to push the volume button in untill it comes up, but all that does it turn it off. I even hold it down like it says, any suggestions?
got my 4x4 xlt after about 9 weeks. The 5.4 is strong! The dealer knocked off $200 for the wait. So I paid $500 over invoice. Im not certain how the speed sound works either...maybe go by and ask dealer...also like the solid running boards...any advice on liners and soft cover for bed?..glad i waited on the F150 "the dodge quad eater"
I took my Supercrew 4X4 on it's firts "exteneded" trip to the mountains and it was unbelievable. I've always owned Toyota trucks (which I never had a single problem with) but needed more interior space for the family. My 4Runner had a 3.0L and it "got there" but had no real power. It's didn't matter where I was on the mountain, if I pushed the gas on that 5.4L...IT WENT!!! As far as going down, we weren't driving out of control but I had no problem keeping up with my brother in his V-8 T-Bird. As I fixed up my 4Runner to sell it, I began to have 2nd thoughts because it looked so good...and still drives well. But after that mountain trip, those 2nd thoughts vanished.
Hey guys, if you talked to Mike at Al Binton Ford in Holly Hill, SC, please let me know. I was the one that found his deal and posted it on Edmunds. I'm trying to dicker with him on a set of running boards or something. Your help would greatly be appreciated, it might save me a few bucks.
I had my SC in the shop the other day. The wiper motor had gone out. I hope this is not the norm. I had a 92 F-150 and it never seen the shop, 120K on it. Also, check the plastic molding on the inside bottom of your doors. There are little plastic inserts that hold them on. I was missing a few and the others were coming out. Just push them back until they click and they should be ok.
Anyway, for the people who dealt with Mike, you can email me at cshaw9@home.com.
I didn't believe the newspaper ad of a dealer in the Boston area approx. 1 hr. from my house. After having a deal fall through on a Dodge Dakota Quad Cab, I decided to give this Ford dealership a try. Turns out that I really got a 2001 SC 4.6L 4X4 for $60 under invoice. Now all that's left to do is get some accessories when I take delivery on Friday. Anyone have a suggestion on steps? I am only 5' 3" and have quite a time getting in and out of the truck. (I originally wanted a 4X2 for that reason)
"flamingo26" FOR Cab Steps for the F-150 check the Ford Truck Accessories Catalog at your dealer, they have several kinds available right through your parts department, and you might be able to work them into the deal, and have them on the truck when you pick it up. Good Luck
