Update: I just picked up my new 2005 TSX for $27,784 with navigation and the accessory package (+ $216 for TTL). MSRP was $30,059 including the silly price of $499 for the accessory package. The silver/ebony was gone so we went with the carbon gray/ebony and received a $200 discount off the original deal. As it turns out, I think we like the Carbon Gray better than the Silver Metallic. Also used the Honda financing deal to lower the rate on my bank loan by 0.25% (although that only really saves me $200 over the next 60 months). Overall, the experience at Kendall Acura in Eugene was a very positive one. And for those in the market who want to skip the sales person and deal directly with the internet manager, I suspect you could shave another $200-300 off the price. According to our sales guy, they just moved into a bigger space and are trying to build volume.

I purchased a 2005 TSX, auto/non-navi at Leith Acura in Cary, NC for $25,500 (about $330 above invoice). In North Carolina many dealers rip you off with a non-negotiable $398 document fee, so you've got to counter this by negotiating the sale price down even more. With 3% tax, $62 registration, and $398 doc fee, the total out-the-door price was $26,725. I contacted about 10 dealers in NC, VA, and SC, plus 2 car buying services and got a broad range of offers. It took several rounds of negotiation with the dealers, and sometimes different salesmen/managers at a dealer to get the price this low. Most other dealers wouldn't come close to this price. Performance Acura in Chapel Hill and Flow Acura in Winston-Salem both offered $25,600, but I ultimately went with Leith Acura since they had the color I wanted. Performance also gave a ridiculously low offer of $1900 on my trade-in (Leith offered $3500, I ultimately went with Carmax for $4300). A previous poster here had a similarly low trade-in offer from Performance, so beware.

If you are in the area and would like to know more on my negotiation experience, please post here and I will share what I can. Hopefully this information will be useful to others in the area. Now that the 2005s have been on the lots for a few months, deals should be possible!

Thanks everyone for the input. I finally made my purchase. I went into the dealer and they sold the color I wanted (Carbon Gray), but I went ahead and bought a black on black one. Price before TTL was $26,025, which is $853 over invoice. Southcenter seems willing to negotiate with you and for the most part the buying experience was decent.

I will start working this summer and that's when I will need a car. If I lease, between now and June, how is the price going to change? When can I get the best deal? I heard that the car price is usually lower in winter and higher in summer. And also will the 2006 model of TSX be available before June?

Bought one for $26,600 in the Chicago area. Non-navi White.

Thanks for your post and welcome to Edmunds. Is this price(26.6k) the total except for tax, title, and license or are there other fees on top of this yet? Was there a trade-in involved?

Please let us know how the vehicle is doing as you get some miles on it, e.g. mpg, trouble, or complaints. What other vehicles did you compare the TSX too?

"Bought one for $26,600 in the Chicago area."

That must be about what they go for then. I see that Kelly BB has their "new car blue book" at $26,682. I think this is their version of Edmund's TMV.

You guys that are getting them for under $26K are either really good negotiators or there's not much competition in Chicago (even though there are at least 6 Acura dealers).

    Carsjwin,

What that your price out the door? What other additional things did you get with it? How long did it take you? I'm here in Charlotte and am wondering if I can get a similar deal. There's only one dealership in Charlotte and no competition in a 75 miles radius of here. Let me know if possible.

Blue, Auto, No Navi w/ Splash guards, wheellocks. 28,100 out the door. 25130 + 570dest + Tax/Lic=28100 from Acura of Pleasanton. Love the car! Got quotes online and bargained with lowest bidders. Customer service was about par. Did not really like the sales people in Stevens Creek Acura. Didnt pay attention to us when we first got there and not very helpful. Had to go inside to ask for someone to show us a car eventhough salesmen were standing outside talking amoungst themselves. Otherwise, cant complain.

Keep working it, I think it will loosen up a little soon. Acura originally budgeted 15,000 units per year out of the plant in Japan. In 2004, they sold over 30,000 units in the U.S. It's tough to drastically ramp up the supply chain quickly when you're talking about a plant in Japan that makes vehicles for several international markets that are 30 days away. However, Honda knows they have a hit on their hands and knows how to make money. They will continue to ramp up production to take advantage.

    fredvh,

Yes $26,600 was the total excluding TTL. Paid a doc fee of $52. No trade in. Current gas mileage is about 21 city. Only have about 1100 miles so far. I was originally looking at a Subaru Legacy GT.
  • carsjwincarsjwin Member Posts: 12
Savio - Here's the breakdown of what I paid:

$25,500 + $765 3% NC tax + $62 registration + $398 doc fee = $26,725 out-the-door. This included wheel-locks. The deal originally included trunk tray and splash guards for $25,600, but I did not want these things, so I was able to knock down an extra $100.

After I had made up my mind on the TSX ,it took me about 1 month of active negotiation to get the price this low. I visited the two local dealers and spoke with or emailed about 8 others in NC/VA/SC, plus read this forum and other Acura webforums to arrive at my target price. The two local dealers rejected my offer initially, so I walked...I ended up getting my deal by talking directly to the general manager on the phone, rather than the salesman who previously rejected my offer, and asking them to match my best price (from internet guy at Winston-Salem Acura). At the other local dealer, after one manager rejected my offer, the salesman called me a few days later with a different manager who was willing to make the deal. So patience and persistence worked for me.

I did talk with the Charlotte Acura internet guy, and they were only willing to take $500 off MSRP - I didn't pursue them further, so I don't know whether they would have come down further. I understand what you are saying about the lack of local competition, but I would still drive a hard bargain -- 75 miles is not that far. It may take a few visits of negotiation and then leaving the dealer if they don't accept your offer. Time is a powerful tool here--make it clear that you know what others are paying, are not in a hurry, and will give your business to the dealer with the best price and are willing to drive to do so. Knowing what I paid helps, but would be helpful to obtain as many phone/email quotes from other dealers. I was very picky on color, so that made things a bit harder--I ultimately made an offer/deposit on a car that was 2 weeks from delivery. I suspect that if you are wanting to buy a car off their lot that they might be more motivated to negotiate.

    Good luck...keep us posted!

Hi all. I'll be picking up my new Carbon Gray Auto Non Navi TSX on Saturday! I'm pretty psyched! I did a very extensive search for this new car. Looked at Mazda 6, InfinitiG35, AcuraTSX, and decided on the TSX. I'll be paying $27,996 out the door, with fog lights and wheel locks. I am so excited to get it!

I live in Raleigh and have been in the evaluation phase for a while. Did you have to go through dealing with different salesmen/managers at Leith? If so, could you tell me who to deal with so that I may be able to reduce the amount of wrangling?

A good trick to use. Find out if a Credit Union or somewhere similar offers a certain percentage over invoice to it's members at the dealer. I found out that a local credit union (that I don't belong to, but am eligible for) offered members a few percentage points over invoice. So, I went into the dealer and acted as if I was already a member, and told them that I can get it at that and would pay (x) amount. Went much quicker and easier.
  • carsjwincarsjwin Member Posts: 12
I am not sure if you *have* to go through different salesman, but the first guy who I sat down to talk numbers with was clearly not interested in my business and insisted they could not go down to the price that I eventually paid. I did not like the guy at all. I was set to dismiss Leith entirely, but I called later and was referred to the general manager (I believe there is only one), and he was able to make the deal.

    carsjwin,

I'm in the Triangle area as well. I've been looking for a 2005 Automatic w/ Nav. I haven't been terribly active in my search yet because it doesn't appear as though many models have been in stock thus far. Any tips you can give me about how you worked that deal would be great!
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
For the sake of consistency, I would suggest sale prices be quoted less tax, title, & license. Since sales taxes and title/license fees vary considerably from state to state, the "out the door" price isn't meaningful for price comparisons.
  • surfrat45surfrat45 Member Posts: 5
In Rockville, MD - $26,000 for auto, non navi, carbon gray 2005 TSX. $392 for fog lights. $1604 for tax/tags/etc. $27,996 out the door.

Does this sound like a good deal? From what I've read, for this market, it's fair.
  • carsjwincarsjwin Member Posts: 12
    Hi jsg22:

I was in a similar situation b/c the color combo I wanted (carbon grey/quartz, auto, non-navi) was not in stock at most of the dealers I worked with. What I did was to negotiate price with the dealer on a car that was scheduled for delivery in about a week -- we agreed on a price, I left a $500 deposit, and then I picked it up when it came in. It was sweet to pick up a car with 9 miles on it! The stock is constantly changing and new cars are always coming in...You can start engaging the dealer in discussions/negotiations, and if they don't have the car you want in stock, then it's easy to walk away...if you let them know you're ready to buy when the price is right and when they have a car scheduled for delivery, then you can agree on a price and leave a deposit.

I'd also try calling around to dealers outside the Triangle -- Winston Salem gave me a good offer on the internet and try Greensboro and Richmond too. The other option if you can't find the car you want in stock is to do a dealer trade, but I think there are some charges the dealer incurs (for car transport), so you're less likely to get a good deal.

    Good luck!

WRJOYCE - My price of $25,500 *does* includes the destination ($570, I think). However, Leith does charge an additional $398 doc fee, which I was unable to negotiate out of, but this is why I set my target price of $25,500 so low. See previous post for the exact itemization of my prices paid and out-the-door price.

Hello... I am new to this forum, but I recently have joined and used the information gathered to make my buying decision between a Legacy GT, Accord V6 and a TSX. I can say that i was able to get $25,700 out the door with all weather mats, mud guards, nose mask and wheel locks. I received the carbon with black interior, non navi.

I am looking forward to driving this car!

ps- I went to the credit union and got 4.5, but the dealership was more than willing to meet the rate. I had to drive 2 hours to Reading to get it, but it was well worth it and about $1000 cheaper than the dealership 5 minutes from my house.

JUST WANTED TO LET THE FOLKS IN CHICAGO KNOW THAT TSX NON NAVIGATION CARS ARE SELLING FOR INVOICE!!

I HAVE GOTTEN SEVERAL QUOTES FROM LOCAL DEALERS AND THESE SEEM TO BE PILING UP!! HAPPY MOTORING!

Can you give me some specific dealer names? My quote from Continental Acura was less than $1000 under MSRP and didn't even get a response from another I queried.

You think you could have gotten it any lower than what you paid total?

How much was your down payment and your loan (rate)?

You have a list of your itemization?

    thanks

an extra $10/mo on a 42 month lease for a tire warranty? Sales claims the tires and rims are covered in case a tire pops and/or rim cracks. Any REAL chance of that happening with this car??
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
This sounds like $420 of pure profit for the dealer. The mfr's warranty should cover the wheel and chances of having a tire problem needing more than a simple patch are probably low.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
At that price, I'd be finding myself a nice pothole regularly every few months to ensure I have a fairly new set of shoes on my vehicle over the 42 months.

I'd pass on it. But still be careful - 17"+ rims and low profile tires can be damaged more easily than other sizes
  • fredvhfredvh Member Posts: 857
It is not that I do not believe you but let's hear why you say this about 17" tires and 17" rims. Where do you get this information?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 262,499
17" rims have 1/2" less sidewall height than 16" wheel/tire combinations of the same height..

It is simple physics.. less sidewall cushion means a greater chance of damaging a tire or wheel..

That said, I'd rather take my chances than pay over $400 for tire/wheel insurance..

If you need anecdotal evidence, google "BMW forums" and check out a few posts about it..

Perhaps my explanation was a bit short. When tires and rims start sizing up, it is typically done for performance reasons. Most performance tires tend to be low profile. Low profile tires provide less cushioning against potholes and other road debris. Hence greater chance for damage.

    edit - thank you kyfdx

    Savio,

Sorry for slow response. I don't think I could have gotten it for much lower than I paid...I paid about $330 over invoice which I consider pretty reasonable, and most of the dealers in the NC/VA/SC area would not match it. I put about $20K down and got 3.69%APR on my 36 month loan, which I was pretty happy with (they beat my 4.75% rate from my credit union). My itemized costs are included in a previous post which you can find if you look back a few weeks.

    Good luck!
  • carsjwincarsjwin Member Posts: 12
I'll vouch for this, I just hit a curb on my 2 week old TSX and hacked a nice scratch into the rim...

    Hello folks,

I'm looking to lease a car, and today stumbled on the TSX at a local dealer (closed unfortunately). Looks like a nice car for a good price, but I haven't seen anything on lease offers on the forums.

Has anyone here lease the TSX recently? looking for a 24-36 mo lease to keep initial 2 year cost down, after which my financial situation will improve and buyout won't be a problem.

    cheers.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
I was recently quoted about $430/month for a 3 yr, 12K mile/yr lease including my states 6% sales tax. Money factor was .00245 and I think the residual was about 60%. Selling price was about $800 under MSRP.
  • maxillomaxillo Member Posts: 12
do you remember if there was a down payment included?
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
"do you remember if there was a down payment included?"

That was $0 down. The lease experts at Edmunds don't recommend putting any money down on a lease.
  • ccrellinccrellin Member Posts: 2
Has anyone purchased one in the Boston area? I saw one post from quite a while ago at $25500 and I'm wondering if that price still holds or if it has changed in the last few months. My lease on an RSX is going to be up in a couple months and I'm interested in buying a TSX.

    Thanks!

I bought a 2005 at the end of Jan '05 for $26,300 out the door (this includes dealer fees, tax, tag, and title). TSX was black w/ parchment interior, wood grain dash, leather steering, had additional accessories for mud guards/flaps, 17in" wheels (don't know if this is standard), and wheel locks. Is this a decent deal?
  • pinoyboypinoyboy Member Posts: 1
i bought my 05 tsx black on black non navi for $500 over invoice in chicago with splash guards, trunk tray, mats, and cargo nets all included. i shopped all the local chicago dealers and none that i know of was able to go less than 500 over invoice. i recommed shopping at the largest/volume dealers and bring you credit financing stuff with you. because i thought i got a good deal i may have been stiffed with a 5.99 for 60 months with excellent credit. local credit unions can offer me at least 1% less. so now im in the process of refinancing. i also recommend getting email quotes as several dealers asked to see their competitors quotes in writing. mcgrath in westmont is the largest chicago area dealer and will have the most leeway. mcgrath in morton grove tried to sell me one with 200 miles on it as if it were new.

Hi everyone....I was hoping for some feedback. I purchased a TSX today - Carbon gray w/black interior for $26350. The deal included AUTO trans, floor mats, trunk tray, wheel locks, and FOG lights. Did I do well? Also, I traded in a 2002 Accord that had roughly $1000.00 worth of body damage - they gave me $11,500 for it....it was worth $10,300 w/body damage.

If you can, please send your feedback.

    Thanks in advance!

  • kenji4861kenji4861 Member Posts: 16
    I'd say you did well.

I just hope the dealer didn't trick you into thinking "auto trans" or "floor mat" was an option that usually costs something.

I never think trading in a car to the dealer is a good deal, but maybe it's worth not going through the hassle of selling it privately.
  • punklesspunkless Member Posts: 3
Thanks! The $26350 price included wheel locks, floor mats, truck mat, splash guards, and I was able to squeeze in fog lights w/installation. As for the trade I could've gotten more privately but I would've had to pay for the damage since my deductible was 1000.

    How well did you do?
