Right you are on that, dealerships are like casinos --the house always wins!
No doubt as the inventory of 2007's increases the prices will come down accordingly. Hopefully my experience can help someone else save money as well.
Happy RAVin'

You really have to shop a price around to see if it's any good. For all you know the next dealer might undercut it by a few hundred bucks and throw in free window tint. Check out my previous posts on OTD pricing, it takes a lot of the math out of car buying.
Good Luck!

As far as prices, they will vary depending on options and dealer fees.If I had to doit allover again, I would insist on OTD pricing (the actual out the door price).

Cost = $22,300 OTD (tax, title, reg) and got them from $5200 up to $6000 for my '03 Elantra, an NYC car with all the wear on the body, brake system and frame you'd expect from the mean streets
MSRP was $22,214 before tax, etc. so I saved almost $1300 over the asking price.
sound really good, I'm in nyc too could you tell me which dealer?????
A good Philly dealer is Faulkner Toyota on Route 1 right before it turns in to Roosevelt blvd. Ask for Patty, she is friendly and polite and gave me a great deal on my 06 Rav sport 4x4. It is not your normal car buying experience there with the haggling and b.s.. So good luck on you purchase.
Jim
The MSRP was $24557 I got it for $22500. The doc fee was $200 and registration was $85
I bought it from Ira Toyota in Danvers Massachusetts, they were very good as they did not pressure me into buying anything. The gave me a good quote over the phone, after I submitted a quote request using Edmunds
I shopped the RAV4 against the 2007 CRV 4WD EX which me and my wife liked better but we bought the RAV4 because of the 3rd row seat
I wish Toyota would package their options better so that I could get an upgraded JBL audio system on the Base SUV
After seeing so many people on the forum getting the V6/4WD configuration I was wondering how my 4-Cyl/2WD would handle the altitude and winding roads of the Smokey Mountain National Park. I can't say I was disappointed.
The first two days we had great weather but on the last day it was fog, wind, rain and leaves blowing around, not ideal driving conditions on twisting mountain roads with 300 ft dropoffs.
My RAV held the road like a sportscar, never broke traction or hesitated on the inclines. Being the driver I enjoyed the "circuit" of the motor trails while my wife had to close her eyes now and then.
One thing I didn't like was when I was using cruise control on the approach through the Appalachians the engine would noticeably surge on hills to maintain the speed setting. It didn't simulate real world driving in the sense that most people don't gun the engine on a hill just to maintain a steady speed.
I tried to keep the speed down but I don't think my break-in period was "ideal." What the heck, it's a Toyota.

bought for 28200.00
from what i'm told this is a good deal around here though it sounds like others have gotten a better deal on this site.
now we start negotiations on platium 7 year 100,000 mi warranty so far 900.00 any opinions? I've been told that the extended warranty needs to be purchased before the car is titled (or a few days after) is this true?
With ford and Gm you can purchase it any time before the 12 month 12000 mi. time period and it is the same price as the day you bought the car. I'm told not so with Toyota, price goes up after it is titled so it is to my benefit to get the best price before taking possession. Taking posssesion first part of the week. I just got back from driving it no problems as listed on this board.
Noise (road) = no, no different than 02 explorer, JBL = no

Now I am waiting for a silver in the same configuration. The dealer told me it could be up to 6 weeks wait. I am in the S.E region. It is hard to find v6 around here. Maybe I will have it before de end of the year.
It was an advantage knowing what to look for, ask for, and get. As I already posted the $28200. I felt was a good price. I commented, (I didn't expect them to go for it) that I've been checking prices on the platium extended warranty. I only want Toyota plan not some 3rd party. They say ok we sell some but the 3rd party is cheaper. What price did our competitors give you? 855.00 for 7 yrs 100,000 miles no deductible Toyota platium plan. Finance person says that's a good price and if you like I'll match it. I state that's ok they did the work already and I'll just take a check into them in the morning. Wait, he states if I beat it will you buy it from us? What's your offer I asked stating the cost I'm told is $705.00. He checks his book in front of me and says yes your info is correct. He then asks is 825.00 a fair price? I said yes print the papers for a 120.00 over cost that is a deal. So the out come on the platium $0.00 deductible 7 years 100,000 mile is $825.00.
Rav4 cost 28200.00 the extended warranty costs 825.00 total is 29025.00 for car and warranty not bad. thanks for all the previous posts maybe this info will help someone still looking.

1. I located the invoice base price (not incl. options) at consumerguide.com for $24k (updated 11/2/06) for this model/make/trim. A dealer I spoke to said their invoice base price was $25k before options (we didn't get far enough into it for me to see the factory invoice so maybe that included extra fees/line item costs). Question: where can I get the most up-to-date invoice prices so that I can properly negotiate? Do they vary by region?
2. Posters have commented about special ordering particular colors/options, but the dealers here act like they just have to wait for their random shipment to arrive every 2 wks to see what they get. Or they can search other dealers. How do you go about special ordering? Are there extra costs for this?
3. I understand how to negotiate costs, but am I at a disadvantage since it's so hard to find my particular color combo, esp if it is coming from a 3rd party dealer? Any tips? If one dealer finds the car, how is the profit distributed between the two dealers (ie, who do you negotiate with)? Is it better to give a firm OTD offer?
4. In this particular case, would a broker make sense in order to have someone constantly scouring dealerships on my behalf? I've heard of a good one.
Any help appreciated...
The way it works in Florida is that any dealer can access the inventory for the next month or so before it arrives at port, they refer to it as "sea stock."
It's a simple matter for them to divert a particular RAV4 to their dealership right off the boat. All they have to do in terms of reciprocity is to allow the other dealership (that originally ordered the RAV4) to have a similar vehicle that was earmarked for their lot.
Southeast Toyota is the sole importer for the entire southeast region: FL, AL, GA, SC, NC. That's five states worth of inventory to choose from. It might not be as favorable for you.
I would recommend negotiating with multiple dealers since they can all obtain the vehicle you want. Lowest price wins!
OTD pricing is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned. Otherwise you'll finally settle on a price for the car and then the price will go up dramatically when they hit you up with all the fees and additional profit markups. An OTD price levels the playing field from the start, all the cards are on the table and the price is fixed. Check out my previous posts for more info.
Good luck!

1. I am not familiar with comsumerguide.com but it probably has the same numbers as edmunds.com. You can price a car there with whatever options you want and get the invoice and MSRP. The dealer's invoice will be about $400 more than the Edmund's invoice because of advertising costs the dealer has to pay to the manufacturer. In general, Fitzmall on the eas coast sells the REAV4 for $200 over the dealers invoice. This works out to be about $2000 under MSRP, depending on the model and options. Whether you look at invoice plus, MSRP minus or OTD pricing depends on your strategy. If you are talking to three different dealers and just want to know which one will let you drive a car off the lot for the lowest price, OTD works fine. If you want to walk into a dealer and make him an offer, you should use the MSRP or the invoice numbers to determine your offer. There is another strategy some use which is to fax or e-mail about 10-15 dealers and tell them what you want and ask them for their best price. If you send your e-mail on the last Tuesday of the month, you may find a dealer that needs to sell a vehicle to meet a quota and they might give you an outstanding price just to insure the sale because if they make their quota it could mean many thousands of dollars bonus money in their pockets. Be sure to contact the fleet manager or general sales manager and not just a salesperson. MSRP and invoice don't vary by region. Well, maybe in the SE and Gulf regions but that is a different story that you don't need to worry about.
2. Getting the exact vehicle you want can be difficult, depending on what you are looking for. For example, last I checked there were over 1100 RAV4s in the SE region but only six Limited 4WD 6cyl RAVs. There are a lot of things a dealer can do to try to find you the right vehicle and it really shouldn't cost anything extra but most dealers are lazy. You can "special order" a RAV but it might take several months to get what you want. This shouldn't cost anything either.
3. Dealers swap cars all the time so that isn't even something you should be concerned about. It will all even out in the long run for them.
4. I have never used a broker but I can see where there would be some advantages. It is just an extra cost, though, so it all depends on personal factors.
Happy hunting.
$24400 (+ Taxes,Title and Registration) for Base V6 4x4.
No other dealer 'fees'.
Besides standard features, it comes with option A. I have
been told that the option A is something all Base 4x4 V6
'come built with' in my region. Seems to be true from the
configurator on toyota.com for my zip code. Is this really
the case?
This option A contains:
Cargo Net, Tonneau Cover, 6-CD Changer, Roof Rack,Aluminium alloy wheels (17 inch), Day time Running lights, Towing package, floor mats
In addition to this if I go for:
after market leather seats, Clear Bra, Toyota offered Security system (Dealer installed,
not factory) and Driver/Passenger window tint, then I have to pay another $2400.
How do you all think this price is? It will be helpful.
Anyway, I shall disclose my information once I actually buy the car. I think it will then be more solid info for everybody to use. Keep an eye on this space.

I'd been looking for a 4Cyl 2WD Limited with sunroof and JBL (for BlueTooth). The JBL isn't available yet here in Texas.
Anyhow, I stopped at Byers Toyota in Delaware OH. They had (get this) the exact one that I wanted on the lot. Ended up leaving that afternoon with the car at about $1500 off sticker, no fluff or hanky-panky on the deal. They even had someone come in to help me shuttle my rental car back to the Columbus airport 30 miles away.
I suspect that I did better because it was the last weekend of the month and I wasn't "pushing" to buy the vehicle.
Anyhow, I figured that, with a 22 hour drive back to Texas, I'd love it or hate it.... I do REALLY like the car!
The thing runs like a rocket. Saw somewhere it supposed to do 0-60 in 6.7 seconds
option:
3rd row seat
cargo net
black roof rails & crossbars
17 5-spoke styled steel wheels
carpet mat
mudguard
MSRP is $23032 and we got it for $21285.45 plus tax and license.
Doc $45
State tire fee $8.75
Tax $1759.76
License $201
total $23300 (OTD)
Did I get a good deal?
I felt like I could have done better.
I am interested in a RAV4 07' I was told there are no more 06' models in our neck of the woods (Jacksonville, NC) that would be a better deal than the deal being given for the 07', I am wondering if this is true...
Dealer is giving an us the number 22,700 (MSRP is 22,250 base)for a 4WD, V4 engine, basic model no frills. And about 1,000 more for V6 (what I wanted, but he says much harder to find).
What do I need to ask in particular to understand the nuances of making a deal? Should I say OTD what is your price? Should it be below MSRP? I have very good credit, and wonder what APR to negotiate for. I told him that my bank already approved me (which of course they would but I have been lazy in filling out the forms) for 5.99 rate (which is what my credit card is with them... NOW I think maybe in reality I could get a better rate....(my score is 750).
I need some help, I am a savvy woman, but I worry about making a mistake.
Thank you so much!

usually the price difference between RAV4 4 cyl and V6 is
around $2000, from what I have seen.So, 23700 is a good price. I have been offered a quote of $24400 in CO for 2007 RAV4 Base 4x4 V6
with following factory installed options:
Roof rack, 6-CD changer, Cargo Net,
Tonneau cover,
17 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels, Day time running lights and
Tow prep package.
This price includes all charges and fees. I will have to pay
for Tax, Title and registration fee extra. OTD price is a good way to get the idea of how much you really gonna pay.
