    larry,
as i said in my earlier post, "i can only speak for my experiences. greg stancill's done right by me." what that translates into is, "i can only speak for my experiences." - and mine have been nothing but good. as for the published 8-10 week lead times for the silverado, yes, that is true...now that the 4 door has gone into full production. before, nobody really knew how long before it would go into production, and therefore, how long till they would get it. i tell you though, it's nice to have your oh-so-bright insight into these things. if you look at post #97 you'll see that roger stated, "And he will probably tell you how he got ONE (1) in a couple of months. Just one though, and it was a 1500." THAT was what i was referring to when i said not everybody can be lucky. if you try to follow these conversations, you might be able to keep up.
the only reason i make posts on here is to attempt to help some folks out - share my experiences if you will. if you take a jab at me...yes, i will retaliate. look at the rest of my posts though...they aim to assist those going through the same process i spent the last year of my life going through.

    roger,
i'm sorry to hear about your wife, i hope she pulls through just fine. my old man had the same deal, and he's doing just great now. what i said above goes for you too though, bud, look above each of the times i posted about the deal i got, usually you'll find someone asking a question about how to get a good deal. i got a good deal, i'm going to try to help them do the same. for those of you who feel you've been shafted by greg stancill, tell everyone on here you have. better yet, email his boss at Carmgr1@aol.com. until he does me wrong, i'll be here to tell people what a great deal he gave me.

next week, i'll be posting pics if anyone's interested.

Why would you need 4 Wheel drive out there? In case you run over a Garbage can and get hung up!!
Just kidding,This truck should run in any weather condition thats what its for. However your right i think they will have a tough time trying to find it. Anybody having a problem with the DRL's?
My Parking lights front and rear are on all the time With the day lights. (Sensor Problem Maybe?)

Go to GMC.com or Chevrolet.com...(any gm site can take you to any other Gm site)

There is all kinds of info on both trucks...including a cool webcam that shows instant shots from the Auto show in detroit...

I don't think I like all that crap on the Avalanche?....I must say...the GMC is better looking..(did I say That??).but these are just concepts.
The New silverado at the show before it came out had a bunch of similar crap too...and it never made it to production..

I appreciate the fact that you took time to post one for me. And I know you got a good deal. It is just the advertising was for 2500's, and I was told that I had an allocation for the pickup. Later was told the Regional Marketing Lady had the order#, which she didn't. And besides all that, I wanted a 3 dr model , which were available I believe in early Nov. '99. But as things turned out, I'm glad that I didn't get it for the time being. Maybe in the future.

Good luck on the 4 door, I know that you must be pretty proud of it. I know that I would be. So I will quit with that.....Good luck to everyone that is waiting for a 2500.

    Ryan,

Why don't you order yourself a truck? I know a Silverado X/C 4WD. I have just the color for you too!

Indigo Blue (trust me, you will like it) with Black fender flares! I think it will be sharp!!!!!

    Oil minder reset problem:

First - nothing wrong with it. I push harder.

Second - only resets after it has tripped. I push harder.

Third - I'll get the guy who knows more.

Fourth - after trying it for himself he understands the problem but has no idea. He's going to call the GM tech line and ask.

    Final - ????????????????
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
Tim you are right, my Accord only weighs 2100 lbs. That's lighter than the camper I carry around! I'm ready to replace my 18 year old car now and have no interest in another Japanese car but I can't argue with success. It has been a very reliable and solid vehicle which still runs great at 200k. I'm just sick of it.

What is the problem? The oil change light has just started with my truck.
  • rshornsbyrshornsby Member Posts: 200
about the problems that GM is having. It appears that my Guardian Angel is still watching over me.
I had to cancel my order, but now I'm glad of it.
Guess GM is trying to prove that Ford isn't the only one that made an EDSEL. Sorry guys, hope it gets better before it gets worse, if that is at all possible.

Roger :) Have a better day tomorrow.....

Thanks to the guy who corrected me on the manual bucket seats. Indeed, you can tilt the seat cushion via a little lever on the right!

Thanks to PlaneJane for the lunar eclipse notice. My friends drunk wife called me last night. She said it had started, so I went out and looked. Nooo....Keep your shirt on honey! (Saw the eclipse tonight though.)

The first two oil changes I coudn't get the light to flash. Now if it only resets when tripped??....I have about 4900 miles since I last tried to reset it...and no light comes on. Wouldn't you think it would have come on by now?

    No oil light
    No headlight bybass

Don't need the oil light....wish I had a headlight bybass sometimes though...(factory..not an aftermarket)

    - Tim
  • bob259bob259 Member Posts: 280
I have changed the oil in my truck 3 times now and the light has come on at different times/mileages on the last two as I have been trying out this feature. Note: I changed it early for the first oil change and successfully reset the light before the light had come on, so I believe it will reset at any point, if you do it correctly, All the way to the floor 3 times within 3 seconds.

Bluebeast I think your right Ryan is all talk no guts and probably will never order a truck.
  • werkingwerking Member Posts: 431
    guys,
just a thought...many folks change their oil every X miles or X months...has anybody kept track of their engine hours meter when the change oil light comes on? people been saying it's 2500 miles to the first time...then 3500, then 3000...maybe it has more to do with engine hours than mileage? just a shot in the dark...

werking, according to my GM guy it has to do with a lot of different factors, temperature, length of trips, etc. all gathered and stored in the computer.

OK, I have a '99 - 3/4ton Ext.cab LS, blah blah (as some of you know)

I get different answers all the time...

Yesterday, I went to have my tires rotated. This guys at the Mobil Station says, your tire pressure was at 30psi - (I hadn't checked in a while, I guess he must have thought I was a dumb chick with a truck I knew nothing about). I admit it was pretty low, so he tells me - they're 80# tires, so I filled them all to 65.

    I'm thinkin... and I said...

"OK, when I bought the truck they came with 40 all around. I filled them to 45 all around for everyday driving"

    He says:
"Just imagine this, say you have 30# tires, and you kept them at 15, would that make sense?"

    I thought:
    Dammit, I don't know.. I AM SOOOOO CON_FUSED MAN!

So, I drove around with them at 65 all around, and it rides like [non-permissible content removed]. It felt every bump, every wave, and it felt like if I keep driving like this, I am going to rattle the truck apart.

SO, who's got the good word on this? I am going to let some of it out and see how 50 all around feels. It's so darn cold out today (west suburbs, Chicago).

    Quad,
Tell me more about astrology... and the west.

    planejane@att.net

(I am trying to get hubbie to take me to New Mexico or back to Montana this summer in the "tank". I said, aw come on, we haven't gone anywhere SINCE Montana in '94. He is obsessed with finishing the house in Wisconsin and says that the trip will take away from construction - He says I'm spoiled).

How do you like the autotrac in the snow we got? I think its great. The past 2 days while using it i havent felt one slip or slide.
  • planejaneplanejane Member Posts: 167
    VINCE:
I know how you feel about having to get use to the idle. Especially seeing as how your other vehicle is running smoother.

When that other person (sorry can't remember who) said about the top of the bed being higher about 1/4 in. on the driver's side, I checked it out and thought, how is this going to effect the truck structurally in its older years? Maybe it is fine, but how lame is that?

Forgot to mention, HOW COULD I FORGET? A couple weeks ago, I got up one morning for work, got out of my truck and turned back to look at it (in admiration) and found someone had scratched my passenger-side bed. It was a 3 foot long scratch with a nice long dent behind it. Looked just like someone in a minivan was parked next to me and backed up - hit my truck and kept on backing up. No telling who it was, and the note must have 'blown away' in the wind... ;-)

I was devastated. The damage was $468 & my deduct was $500, so after being nearly drained after Christmas, now I have to wait a little while to fix it. I told myself when I got it, that it wasn't going to be new forever, so after baning my head on the wall for 6 hours, I got over it.

It just goes to show ya, people are *(!&#*(&(*$&(*^$ (disrespectful).

Anyways, after that incident, I lowered my deductible to $100. Lesson learned, huh?

The autotrak is more awesome than I realized. And to think, the one I originally ordered had the floor shifter.

I know you will get your truck.
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
    Planejane,

Your tires are rated to carry 3000# each at 80 psi. For 4 tires that equals 12,000 lbs. Your truck only weighs about 6000 lbs unloaded. That is about 1500 lbs per tire.

If your weight was equal front to rear, you could run 40 psi all around and the tire would deflect the same as if they were at 80 psi/3000 lbs. But your truck probably weighs more on the front than the rear. So run 45 front, 35-40 rear when empty. Just be sure and pump the pressure up when you carry a load, or you run the risk of tire failure.

    Good Luck,

    Mike
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Thanks for believing in me. I bet your glad you didnt get the floor shifter its so much easier with the auto push a button and drive.

That sucks about your truck getting hit. People are disrepectful. Next time park a mile away by noone and next to a pole so they cant park next to you or take up 2 parking spots. I cant even count the number of dents to the wheel well chrome on my S-10 it drives me crazy. I could go on forever about how people dont care but ill quit now.

    Ryan
  • bluebeastbluebeast Member Posts: 258
Well, took pictures of my truck with the new wheels on!! Anyone know who and/or where I can send'em to get posted? I don't have a web page of my own.

Ryanbab, remember, yer just a hot air blower until the truck is in the driveway. Then I will believe it. Hopefully when you go to purchase other "stuff" you don't research for a couple of years before you buy. Wife wanted to know if you have black or blue flares mounted on your bedposts?
  • mdw1000mdw1000 Member Posts: 171
Sorry to hear about your truck - that sucks! I live in the western suburbs of Chicago as well (Aurora) - maybe we can hunt them down! I want to get them before they get to mine.

The one thing i like about 4hi over auto 4wd is that it helps you get around corners better in the deep snow. I've had times where the rear wheels weren't spinning, but the front wheels weren't getting traction, so when I'd turn, i'd still go straight a little bit.
  • powerisfunpowerisfun Member Posts: 358
Don't let these guys bother you. I'm the same way about buying things. I research the hell out of anything that costs over $100. I enjoy it and it's served me well over the years. In my opinion, you SHOULD wait as long as possible based on the problems people are having the the '99s and '00s.

As a side note to everyone: Remember, saving X-amount of dollars on a purchase can be equivalent earning 1.8X dollars or more (depending on your tax bracket, your state tax rate, your city tax rate, and your local sales tax rate).

    Cindy,

Keep in mind that maybe you did have 45 in the warm weather....but temp effects the pressure.

    Colder temp..lower pressure.

I wouldn't got below 40 with this type of tire. 10 ply tires hold more of a load...but can be like riding on empty for the sidewalls if you go too low.
The rear is going to take all the bouncing too...(thus adding to stress)...for me 40 is the lowest for the rear. If you toss something light back there..it's fine...but anything heavy - 80 psi.

Fill them the most you can handle.

It calls for 50F/80R in the door...but that's for fully loaded. I know I tried that...but a 2500 Firm Ride will shake your guts out dry with that PSI.

I keep the fronts at 50 as stated...that does not feel uncomfortable for me...so why not keep it at what the max they say is....that way when i do load down...I only have to change the rears.

and yeah....I think Ryan is all hot air too...just another teeny bopper wishing he had a new Silverado!

    LOL

    - Tim

(Ryan...if we had a truck bash...you would have to take more abuse than this...trust me)

I dont usually researh things out but 30000 is mucho dinero and i would rather be prepared then be in the dark u know. Its cool u all can say what you want hot air or whatever. Doesnt affect me.

Whatever happened to the truck bash???

  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
Didn't you get whacked by a door ding a while back also?

Mike said it better than I can about the tire pressures. Let some air out. If you have too much, they wear more towards the center. Too little, more wear towards the edges.

Hubby is taking on too much stress, but that's what you get with a cheese head!
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721

how fast these posts add up geez this is great you guys love to talk most of the other rooms have a new post once a day!!! LOL anyways I agree with above having the autotrack is very nice. A day or two after the storm (when its not snowing and theres just that packed snow everywhere) are the worst for rear wheel drive espescially having to put it 4 wheel drive each time you want to jet out into the road. The autotrack does it by itself so ya dont need to worry about it, i like that :^).

I finally (or luckily) got an order number. I had ordered a 1500 Ext Cab, Z71, mostly everything else on 22 DEC. I called the truck manager a couple of times, but no luck. I called again today and he said my truck was not accepted by GM. We talked for a few minutes and I finally asked why it did not get accepted. It was because of the WOL tires I had selected. I guess GM did not have enough to go around. The stupid tires were holding up my truck! Needless to say my truck is now on order with blackwall tires. Who knows what the problem may be if I wait until next week (not gonna take the chance). When the truck arrives I'll see if I can get the dealer to swap the tires (and I'll pay the difference or so). Else I'll find a tire dealer to swap with me.

No TPW yet. Probably find out next week.

Sorry to hear about your scratch. I did my first damage recently when I let the door fall open into a brick pillar. Small dent but on the driver door so I see it every time.

For tires it is simple: 50 psi front, 45 psi rear empty, 80 psi rear loaded. Just do this and don't think about it any more.
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
m1685 - the problem is that it doesn't confirm the reset operation as the manual says.

bob259 - you said yours works, what year do you have?

I noticed an interesting word in the manual, it says: "IF the system is reset it will flash..." note the first word. Hmmm
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
rshornsby - you implied we were having so much trouble with our trucks. It's easy to get that idea reading all these complaints but remember that's a major reason for this board. I am very happy with the truck, have had only a few trivial problems and am enjoying it every day.

So, it seems, that we all agree that 65 all around is too much. I will let some air out tomorrow morning before I hit the highway on a 1-hour journey to the boonies to visit my sister.

Thanks for all your input, I am going 50 front and 45 rear.

About the damage to my truck...
Now I know where to look for genuine sympathy.

    Anyways, MDW1000:
We could start hunting them down, but there are too many of them.

    Quad:
Yes, I did have that little door ding on my wheel flares, but that was plastic, and I actually forgot about it until you reminded me. Hey, Thanks a alot! :P
Actually, that was just a little ding. I don't even care about that one anymore, this "THING" on the side of my truck ruins the whole side (they way it looks).

    Vince,
I bet you have to look at it everyday (your door) and pretend like it doesn't bother you, right?

It is nice to see some positive information on Chevy's. I was first sold on Chevy's then I started reading all the crap that has been going wrong. So, I started looking at Fords. Now I am leaning back to Chevy's again. I really like the options and feel of the LT. Plan on ordering around September.
