real quick. last night i got my '00 LS, Z71, 4 door ext cab 1500, et al. no problems whatsoever in the first 70 or so miles i've put on it. obviously i haven't seen the change oil light yet. but here's some interesting news that i know people have been asking about.
1. you can reprogram the daytime running lights and automatic headlamps if you don't want them on.
2. you can reprogram the way the door locks work.
more to follow as i figure it all out...

Ryan,

Deep Thought:
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed.
Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might
be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come
true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Have a nice day....
Roger.
Seat warmers don't help the people in the back seat, but the remote start has been very enjoyed by us..especially when traveling in the Adirondacks, when it hits the -40 wind chill! I have never run into someone who owned one, who wasn't very happy to have it!
...as for rear seat passengers....you should have been quicker to ride shotgun!

Silverados. I read somewhere it is June. That
seems very early to me, but I think they arrive in
about late Aug or Sept. When could one first order a 2001? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Also posted in topic 555 by mistake.
Also, Viper seems to be good unit(Circuit City?), and some come with added capability like Valet parking, etc.
HNIELS: 4th door is about $300 more, but will be standard option, N/C.
scottay hit it on the head. be careful when purchasing a remote starter if you get one. according to my owners manual the PASSLOCK system on the chevy's now does the following. it requires the key to be in the ignition before it will turn on the fuel-pump-cylinder-thing (can't remember the terminology right now). if not...no fuel to the engine. obviously prevents someone from hotwiring your vehicle which hrspwigr8 stated is what a remote starter basically does. long story short...ensure you get a module to bypass the passlock system. o/w...no remote start.
hn: 4 doors should be hitting the lots soon. i just got mine friday and i love it. no vibes, etc. see my next post ref my initial impressions...

i just got a '00, 1500, LS, Z71, 4 door ext cab, with many options. (virtually everything but the heated, power, leather seats). my first impressions are as follows:
i've put over a hundred miles on it, with absolutely no complaints. solid truck, solid feel. rides more like a truck than i expected, but i also got the z71 off road package, so i'm not too disappointed. it's HUGE. thought i needed to throw that in there. the roof of my wife's altima comes up to the bottom of the windows on my truck. anyways, i had one small problem with wind noise - until i realized i had failed to completely close the door. you gotta pull pretty hard to close the doors when you get in, but once you do, you achieve remarkable silence for how large the vehicle is. i got the 5.3 L v-8, and engine noise is minimal unless you WANT to hear it - basically when you stomp on it. no complaints whatsoever though. everything i expected it would be. all four doors work very well. i understand what others were saying about open front, open rear, close front, open front, close rear, close front, etc when disembarking the vehicle in a crowded parking lot. but, i don't really care, because if that's the issue - say at a movie or something - i drop everybody off at the front before going to find a fairly remote spot to protect my vehicle. i installed a $40 (pep boys) bugflector II bug guard the day after, very simple install...5 screws and washers...no drilling. didn't cause any weird sounds when driving. had it up to 70-75 a couple times...no vibes or anything. got some sleet today, so i'm going to go test the autotrack (good excuse to do some doughnuts in the parking lot if you ask me). any questions...feel free to email me at kwerking@aol.com
if you can't tell, i love this truck!!!

I'm not sure if anyone has June "2000" truck or not though.

When I called about the remote starter, the guy did ask me if I had the passlock system, I told him yes, and he noted that he would need to bypass it. He also mentioned they used Viper brand, and that if I wanted to (which I didn't) I could have the power locks and the remote starter incorporated into one controller (more $$).
So, I understand what you say, Tim, about messing with the Silverado wiring. I still have been deliberating this - but when I got up this morning, it was -8 (not windchill, mind you). And my husband leaves an hour before I do, otherwise I WOULD make him start the truck for me. He does brush it off, though.
We got into a debate about the snow brush he just bought, though. (We debate...er.. argue about almost everything). I say with the stiff bristles you could scratch the clear coat if you use it to brush the snow off the truck, he said he doubts it. I said, the people who make snow brushes don't give a darn about your new truck. What do you think? I didn't think it was worth it to find out the hard way.
Hey, let's cover all the bases here, OK?

New record low fuel economy last tank. 7.7 MPG. Towed my 5,000 lb travel trailer from PHX to Flagstaff, up and down ranging from 1,000 ft elevation to 7,000 ft elevation. Tryed to go 75 everywhere I could. Ran in 3rd gear for about 20 minutes at around 4,600 rpm. No change in the coolant temp gauge.
Usually get around 16 to 17 running short trips here in Flagstaff.
Headed to Yellowstone for a week long snowmobile trip. Will be running unloaded around 60 to 56 mph and will probably put some 0W-30 Mobil 1 in it as I will be parked outside for about a week in temps as low as -20 or worse. This should be a new best fuel economy record.
Still think yawl are running your tires too high most of the time. I'm currently running E range studded tires, drop the rears down as low as 28 in ice and snow for best traction. Still not much bulge at that pressure on a 1/2 ton. Run around 50 to 55 psi when towing fully loaded. Will make the Yellowstone run with 40 in the front and 35 in the rear.
Tim, got underneath and looked at my rattling transfer case shift linkage, looks like a really easy fix to quiet it down. Thanks for the heads up.
Oh ya, call me a dumb***, have been running 89 or 92 octane since the last memory flash as I thought it was still occasionally pinging. It was the transfer case shift linkage. If you suspect ping, reach down and put a little load on the transfer case shifter, if the noise goes away, it ain't ping!

They all do damage to the paint....the darker the color...the more haze you will notice. Good thing i didn't get the darkest color you could!..DOHHH!!
I'm lucky to park indoors at home...but do get covered while at work. I just use the brush for the windows and let the rest blow off. I know this is not nice to the people behind you...but oh well...it doesn't last for that long.
Black and dark colors show haze marks too easy...and I'll be damned if some cheapee brush is going to touch my paint.
To each his own.
Would the brush actually ruin the paint??....I doubt it. Just make more marks you have to polish out.

Re: $500 coupon, I'm still looking for one. I filled out the brochure request on GM webpage indicating iminent purchase, so hope they shoot me out one.
It is great to hear about those of you who have theirs and have NO problems. Thanks to all for the useful info.
A nice person forwarded me their $500 coupon, which is transferable, but their address was on it, and they are from Tenn.!
On the bright side, I did recieve a coupon from GM! I indicated interest in a purchase recently, thats probably why I got one. As posted earlier, you get choice of maintenance plan, extended warranty, or $500 off.
Would anybody choose the warranty over the $500?
-scott
Chances are you will never need it...hence you got nothing from GM. Or take the $500....you know will get something for sure.
Up to you
