plainjane, Tire pressure, 50psi front & 45 psi rear seams high when the sticker on the door says 35psi front & rear.

werking, what color did ya end up with? Oh, and Ryan will want to know if it has flares and what color they are.

mprince3, Ryan is the flaremaster so if he says its pewter , ITS PEWTER!

dthompe, 12K miles here also!! three problems at the begining: 1. leaking PS pump 2. blown passenger speaker 3. resume on cruise would not work. Everything else has been great, as a matter of fact I'm impressed how the motor has really come on with HP since breaking in.

ryan, think Nike, think nike...Nike...Nike (just do it).

The $500 loyalty coupon states that it is transferrable to those with the same address only. I doubt a dealer would allow you to use a coupon with a different address on it. I have Three of them and I think it would be a waste to send one to anyone else.

My 4dr LS 2WD loaded Silverado was built in Ft Wayne Indiana on 1/4. According to the dealer it was loaded onto a railcar in Naples, Fla on 1/20. On 1/18 it was being tested, so I do not know if they ship it to Naples (which would not make much sense) to test it, or wether Naples was just an interim stop on its way to Phoenix. I will keep you posted.

BTW the shortest time that I have read here from build day to delivery is 22 days. If that holds true for me I should see mine on Wednesday. .....I won't hold my breath. ;-[ )

    Thanks for the props.

Nike just do it? What buy some shoes? I have to many of those.

Hopefully today i will find out if i can get the tires changed to goodyear then hopefully soon i can make a decision on which place to go with.

Blue dont worry u will be the first to know when i order and finally get it.

Hey does the 2000 1500's still come with the big fin tailgate protector????? Thanks

    Ryan
  • werkingwerking Member Posts: 431

yeah, they have the "big fin" tailgate protectors.

    blue,
i ended up with onyx black over light pewter two-tone. no flares...don't care for them.

Don't worry about ranting about your truck. I waited four months for mine, and all my friends and wife were sick of hearing about it. But who cares? You are right to be excited about this awesome machine! And to be able to pay cash for it!? Wow, I wish I could get rid of that payment and still keep the truck!
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Im close to be able to pay cash. I only want insurance and gas and maintenance (hopefully nothin major) costs. Everyone is sick of me talking about it. I dont care.

Thanks Kyle for the tailgate info im happy i really like the fin. Are you gonna add an accessories? Let me know if ur putting on nerf bars or anything ( i know u added a bug deflector) id like to know how u like em. Thanks

    Ryan
  • rayt2rayt2 Member Posts: 1,208
Regarding that bug deflector, you said it comes with five screws but no drilling required? huh?
Is there any effect on the windshield washer function while traveling at 60-70 mph. The bug deflector (GTS)I used on my 88 pick-up would deflect the air to the point of sending the washer fluid the opposite way, away from the windshield, once I got up to 40 mph or more so it was totally useless when needed.

  • bluebeastbluebeast Member Posts: 258
Ryan, MPC deflector- smoke color, don't like it cause ya can't get your hand in between the hood and the deflector. Bought a bunch of xtra parts for mine only to take it off after a month. Don't really need it in Austin. Do ya want to buy it so you can have it ready when yer 2000 comes in?
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    Blue,
2500's with E rated tires are 50/80 PSI.

    Vince,

I've seen the gas light come on many times..even the washer fluid the other day. But today I was driving and it came on...I said..what?...gas already?..Nope. "change engine oil"...Holy shnikes boss....finally.
Now if it's true that you can't reset it until it goes off....then I guess My first oil change should have been at 9,028 Miles. If you calculate when the last time I tried to reset was...It comes out to 4,827 miles. who knows...But at least I know it does work now...I guess?

    Ray,
My old GTS on the 88 did the same thing. The one I have now on the 00 has enough room for your hand as well as a towel around your hand and does not spray the fluid on the hood. It messes up the flow a little bit...but it goes on the windshield at 80MPH.

    Ryan,
Don't let them dog ya...when you get it....you get it...never mind that MGD guy....DOHH!!

    All,
I stopped at the dealer tonight to price out a Silverado Z71 LT for the wife (like I'm gonna get her to switch).
We know the 1500 has been standard 4 door for a while...but he said today they just announced the 2500 is standard 4 door as well. So basically there is no 3 door Silverados.
He also mentioned that he has told customers to expect a 90% chance they will not get a 2500 this model year. It may be different in your part of the Country...but here it's damn near impossibe.

When I ordered mine in March...there were 8 other 2500 orders waiting. In May they cancelled all 2500 orders and had to re-order a 2000 in June. Me and 2 other guys came back to re-order. I'm the only one who stuck it out.
Since last May...his dealer has sold 2 2500's that happened to come in....and has not has a single 2500 order come thru. Nobody will wait.
This dealer is one of the top dealers here for truck sales as well....you think GM would be able to suit them? This new VOM system sux.

So we shall see what happens with the wife and a 1500 Z71..( I can't let her be on the same level as me..).He said it shouldn't take long for that truck.

I also noticed the destination charge went up $25.
    It's always something man...

    Good Luck

    Ryan,

I would be careful with wanting Goodyear tires. I just (about 3 months ago) put a set on my truck. Two of them were out of round; one side to side and the other up and down. They made the truck shake and bounce worse than a washing machine. Luckily, the place I got them warantied them. I replaced them with BFG's. I will never buy a Goodyear tire again. My suggestion would be to get the cheapest tire you can on the truck and then replace them with a good set of BFG's. You won't regret it.

Yes, my door sticker says, 50/80 PSI, since I do have a 2500. Sorry, I have been on "vacation" from Edmunds, so you may not have known what I drive ('99 - 2500 Ext. cab LS).

Since I have had it at 50 all around, I have really noticed its handling the bumps alot nicer. Maybe you think I'm imagining it, but going from 40 to 45 to 65 back to 50 made a difference.

I talked to a guy about the remote, now he tells me he has to special order a "module" from GM costing an extra $60.00. Making the grand total to install the remote starter = $260 + tax. I might have paid $200. This changes everything.

Then he tells me originally, its going to take 3-6 hours, the latter if they ran into problems. I said, "what kind of problems?". He just says, well, when people put him on a time limit, something always goes wrong. (he was trying to be sincere). Said he had 7 problems, 5 alarms and 2 remote starter in 10 years - several hundreds of installations - all his trucks and employees have them and love them! So, I am to call him tomorrow and let him know if I am bringing it in on Wed.

I'm leaning on not getting it. Anybody out there have a 99 Silverado with a remote starter?
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    I'm telling you...don't get it.

One day something will fail....and you won't be able to start it with the key OR a starter.

    Don't mess with the theftlock.

    - Tim
  • planejaneplanejane Member Posts: 167
    I know, I know..
I won't do anything until someone with a Silverado with the remote starter TALKS!

I rarely get cold during hunting season, I sometimes literally walk miles & miles when its zero or below, but I'm dressed for it. But after January weather, and sitting a cozy office to jump into a cold, frigid truck to go to lunch or anywhere sucks. I won't do anything right now.

We went to a really nice camper place tonight, looked at a A.R.E. cap especially made for Silverados, the display was pewter, he said if we order, in 2 weeks we'd have one custom Z-Series (med. charcoal grey metallic) for $1235.00 + tax installed. IS that a good price, I thought it was about right. Real nice looking cap. The CH-Series was about $900 (I think).

Thinking of a spring installation. AL-MOST put 1/2 down tonight, but we better wait and take care of other business now.

I am curious; How many of you are experiencing the vibration when your truck is in "automatic 4WD"? Please entertain my curiosity!
  • blove1blove1 Member Posts: 2
I have heard rumor that there is a problem with the engine blocks cracking on the 5.3L. Is there anyone that has experienced this or heard of the problem? That put aside, WOW what an improvement over the old 350ci.

My truck was built January 11 and while my wife and I were out today we happened to drive to the dealership. Driving around back what do we see, our truck being unloaded from the hauler. Not often you can see your truck get delivered to the dealer. My problem now is that the salesman did not order the vehicle as a GMO purchase so the invoice does not have the GMO pricing on it. The salesman found out today that he should have done it that way. I have a 2000 4X4 4dr LT, with G80(locking dif, Z71(off road), Z82(trailer tow), QGD(265/75/R16 OWL, KO5(engine block heater, NV8(cell phone provision). Has anyone ordered a like vehicle through the GMO program and if so, what was your cost?

To keep dealers and the regulators from getting ticked, destination is a flat rate whether you go to the factory or a distant dealer.

I think only the early LS-1 motors had casting problems, with the aluminum blocks (camaro's, firebirds, vettes). I haven't heard of any new Vortec cast iron blocks cracking.

    Anyone else?
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
I've never read anything about it on http://www.LS1.com

Those guys racing them, in Camaros and Firebirds and C5's are the ones who would know.

In fact, the only LS1 problems generally reported are bent pushrods from engines over-revved due to a 3 to 2 downshift at redline. (Rev limiter will not prevent an over-rev on a bad downshift, if you have the M6.) At $8 a piece, pushrods are a cheap "fuse" for the abused engine.

Is the salesman telling you you can't buy it and have to re-order?
If so....he may want to sell it to someone else and hopes you will re-order?

I purchased a 2000 3/4 ton LS through the GMO plan and I paid 17% less than M.S.R.P. on the base price and every option. The GMO was also carried over to the extended warranty, 17% off. When I first ordered, the salesman placed the order on the computer and it made a printout with both the M.S.R.P. and the GMO prices side by side. It sounds like he found a new buyer for your truck who is willing to pay full, or close to full price and figures that you will reorder. I know that my salesman seemed to be put out by the fact that I was not paying more for my truck. In fact, when he told me that the price had gone up by $230 from when I first ordered and I questioned why I had to pay when I had a contract. He told me that he could sell my truck all day long for 33k and that I had no reason to question the increase. BTW, after further investigation I found out that when you buy with GMO, if the price goes up before your truck is made, you are responsible for paying the increase even though you have a price quoted from the original order. Doesn't sound fair but the people at GMO told me that the price is discounted from the M.S.R.P. at the time the truck is built. That's all I have bout' GMO.

I have a 2000 Silverado LS 5300 all options but the Leather seats. I live in Boston and use it every day. It has been a life saver with all the cold weather we have had over the last couple of weeks. Also great in the Ski country starts the truck from the ski lodge. I have a Prestige system with remote starter and power locks. The remote has one more option on it but there is not much more you can do. I bought my truck off the lot and it was already installed so I do not know how much it cost. The dealership forgot to add it to the invoice.

Have not had any of the above mentioned problems with the so far. I bought it in October and have 6200 miles on it. Only nuisance so far is a little rattle with the back seat in the up position, fixed by readjusting the gasket on the back clip

    ray,
yeah, no drilling. there are already 5 square-shaped holes in the underside of the hood that you use. the "bugflector" comes with 5 plastic/kevlar/nylon insert-thingies that you pop in the 5 holes. then, you put a washer (provided) on each of the 5 (provided) metal screws, and zip it on with a nifty little power drill or screw-driver and voila...yer done. took me about 5 minutes. no drilling. oh, and i haven't gotten up to 80 yet, but at 65-70, the wiper fluid works fine, no annoying wind-noise or vibrations caused by the bug guard either. i got it to protect the front part of the hood from getting chipped up.

    ryan,
yeah, i think i'm going to go with a rhino spray-in and westin cps nerf bars. i'm just waiting for them to produce them with two step pads on each side for the silverado four doors. oh yeah, i'm waiting to save $450 for them too. that money thing always gets me. i think that'll prob'ly be 'bout it then for accessories, with the exception of maybe tinting the side windows some time down the road.

    all,
we had about 6 inches of snow/freezing rain here in columbia, sc last night. in a state like this, with very little snow removal equipment, it was a great chance to go out and try to make the truck slide around. i can't tell you how impressed i was. anti-lock breaks were great...they give you a little shimmy if you press to hard, so you just pump them to stop then. auto-trac and 4-hi performed great too. i love this truck. fyi, i got the 265's on mine...they're firestones. no complaints yet. came from the factory with 40 psi all around. the four doors all work great too. got 13 mpg on my first tank of gas...mind you 25% of that was spent in auto-trac and prob'ly 50% of it was in 4-hi. hopefully that accounts for the low gas mileage. i'll have pics to post as soon as i get them developed.

    sorry for the long post...

He can easily build another truck exactly like yours and get the price you have to pay its as simple as that. I have asked a salesman to build a truck different ways (different options and stuff) and give me the gm supplier deal 3% added to the GMO i believe. Its simple it seems like something is up. Did u put a deposit down? IF you did get a lawyer or seek some advice from one. The salesman seems to be up to something sneaky. Hope ya get your truck soon.

Could you please keep me up to date on your Rhino spray in bedliner how you like it and stuff. Let me know how the nerf bars are too if u eventually get them. Are u going with chrome? I might just get the Rhino nerf bars. I am definitly getting the rhino spray in liner. Ive heard bad things about spray in liners lately (cracking peeling) but they repair it if it happens so it shouldnt be a big deal.

Just a few words about Rhino Liner. I had my old 76 Chevy Longbed sprayed with Rhino Liner a few years ago (just sold it and bought a new Silverado.) I got a medium grey color, thinking that out here in Arizona black would fade fast. The grey actually faded also, but I used some Armor All and pretty much brought it back to original color. I did not have any cracking or peeling for the 3 years I had my liner, but I have seen some out here in the desert that were cracking and peeling - maybe a bad installation. I used the truck to work on some rental properties I used to own. I had some cleaning supplies in the bed and some fluid leaked out of one of the containers(probably bathroom cleaner) and this caused the Rhino Liner to discolor - I never could get the color back in these areas. The Rhino Liner is supposed to be resistant to chemicals - but it is not resistant to all chemicals. I did like the fact that you could put something in the bed and it would not slide around like a regular drop in liner. I believe the owners manual is right when it states that drop in liners will rub the paint off the bed and expose you to a potential rust problem. I see lots of new trucks with sprayed in liners, but I think you would have to keep after them if you want to keep them looking good. One other note, I actually had the cab floor and inside back cab wall sprayed with Rhino Liner on the old truck to reduce maintenance. It was a good idea, except that the transmission hump got awful hot in the summertime with no insulation on the floor. My current solution to keeping my bed nice on the my new Silverado? I have an old 73 Chevy pickup I use as a beater with no liner when I need to haul something, and have no liner in the new truck. Unless you are constantly hauling stuff in the bed, this works out well for me.

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, THE DEALERS IN MY AREA ARE GOING WITH THE LINE-X SPRAY IN. IT LOOKS FACTORY, IS WARRANTIED FOR LIFE. I ONLY SAW 1 RHINO LINER, BUT IT LOOKED LIKE COTTAGE CHEESE TO ME. THIS DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT'S NOT A GOOD LINER THOUGH. I JUST RECOMMEND LOOKING AT LINE-X IF YOU CAN. GLAD TO HERE YOU LIKE THE TRUCK. HEAR YOU GUYS ARE GETTING POUNDED WITH SNOW. GOOD TRY-OUT WEATHER. BILL.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
They supposedly have a solution like armor all to restore the color to the bedliner now. I like the looks and that things dont slide and also it will be outside in the rain and snow (No desert here) and i figure itll help agaisnt rust. Another big plus is the dealership can get it for $150 cheaper than i can.

EVERYONE i found out about switching the tires to Goodyears. Itll cost me $230.00 not bad for a tire thats $118.

    For the remote start info.
It is a luxury item, for sure. No, I don't really need one. This morning it was cold, but not bad, and the truck does warm up quick. So, still deliberating.. Anyone else have one on a Silverado that had problems?

Does anyone have a picture of Line-X they could post? Installing Rhinoliner this spring with new cap, but may consider the alternative.

Hope this goes thru ok. first timer here. been hiding in the background copying the mail for a few weeks.
you got a good price, no doubt. i think i got a good price too. 2% over invoice on silverado LT, LB, Ext. Cab, 4x4, trailer & plow package w/aux. battery.
ordered 12/99. I'll call today to see if the dealer has heard anything yet.
Have an 87 ford lariat now with 175,000. no complaints. been a good truck. used for work every day. new one will be used for work too. i know i'll miss the ford because now i'll be worried about getting my first scratch again!
P.S. This is a great site. Very informative and eye-opening.
question: what does GMO stand for?
  • number1number1 Member Posts: 71
Also GMS is General Motors Stock. These are simply the acronyms for GM or Hughes employee purchase programs. Current employees or retirees can purchase at a special price or they can sponsor their relatives for the same deal.
  • kantonkanton Member Posts: 142
When I decided to put a spray liner in my truck, I looked at four different companies, including Line-X and Rhino. The Rhino looked like "cottage cheese," and rubbed away when rubbed with the Line-X. In fact all the liners rubbed away when rubbed with the Line-X. How do I know, I got a sample of the Line-X and then took it to the other dealers and rubbed it against a sample of theirs. Nothing was as strong as the Line-X. Also, the look is not gobby like the others. Looks very clean, and holds everything in place. I could not be happier.

    Kyle,

Glad to hear you received your truck!
    I have TBW of 1/31 on my 1500, 2WD, LS, ext.-cab.
It will be my first "new" vehicle and truck. Needless to say, I'm very excited.

Regarding your post on the anti-lock brake system:
I understand you were just testing the truck’s ability, but I would hate for people to get the wrong idea about how to effectively use ABS brakes in an emergency situation.

    You wrote:
    "anti-lock breaks were great...they give
you a little shimmy if you press to hard, so you
just pump them to stop then."

I've never used an ABS equipped vehicle, but I have done some research on the subject. For everyone’s safety I would suggest reading up on the proper usage of anti-lock brakes.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "In many vehicles, drivers may experience a rapid pulsation of the brake pedal--almost as if the brakes are pushing back at you. Sometimes the pedal could suddenly drop. Also, the valves in the ABS controller may make a noise that sounds like grinding or buzzing. In some cars you may feel a slight vibration--this means the ABS is working. It is important NOT to take your foot off the brake pedal when you hear noise or feel pulsations, but instead continue to apply firm pressure". "You should not pump your brakes if you have ABS. Just hold your foot firmly on the brakes pedal and remember that you can still steer".

The following link has concise and informative information on ABS brakes.

DONT PUMP THEM! They are supposed to cycle automatically. When they feel the wheel stop spinning they release.

Got surprise call Monday eve, truck is in!

Here is my idea on liners: use the truck, after a year or so when bed shows wear, then put in a liner. Or just before you sell it. Why cover a perfectly good bed? It will still dent with a spray-on, right?

Question on bedrails: can you use them with a hard/soft Tonneou (sp?)? I like the railcaps, because of dirtbike riding. But I want a cover for safekeeping goods on roadtrips. Any suggestions?

Planejane: search here for remote starter info, its an excellant site.

Tires. I have the Firestone 265 tires (or should I say Bridgestone) and they are good tires. If you don't plan on chewing up the mud and rocks I would stick with them. They are quite on the road and have good traction IMHO. However it is your money.

The pumping feel usually happens when the brake are applied and you hit some or a bump.

It's wierd...and sometimes the vehicles feels like it launches?

    thanks fellas,
the feedback i got when pressing down hard on the brakes was exactly what drafter described, "drivers may experience a rapid pulsation of the brake pedal--almost as if the brakes are pushing back at you". that's exactly it. i was TRYING to make them lock up (with plenty of space around me of course) in the snow and ice. i've never had ABS before either, and i wanted to know what would happen if i panicked and hammered 'em. now i know. now i know to keep steady pressure on them too. thanks. yeah, we've gotten some serious snow down here lately - for south cackalacky anyways. i'm from pennsylvania, so i'm used to this kind of weather - three years removed anyways. it's the other rocket-scientists on the road that scare me. especially with a brand new $30k truck! but...i'll have to go try to lock 'em up again and see how it works.
thanks for the info on the liners, too. i've always equated rhino and line-x for one reason or another. i was picking rhino cuz they're about $50-$100 cheaper down here. i'll check the line-x out again though. thanks again...

take a look at Robertson's in North Aurora for A.R.E. covers. I got my sportmaster tonneau from them, and they were real good to work with.
