Yeah the trd sport does have wheels 1 inch larger than my sr5 but that would only equate to 1/2 total in height difference, plus I had 265/70/16 put on that truck shortly after buying it. The 265/65/17should not be much different than a 265/70/16 so the suspension must sit at least 2 inches higher probably 3 inches. Even my girl has noticed a big difference. Would like to hear from anyone else with an opinion on this

i asked this to stereo store back when i installed my sub and they said they would need one of the chips in in one of the keys to install with system to allow it to start remotely, thats if you have the immobolizer with your taco, hope this helps.

based on my calcs, the sport wheel/tire have virtually the same overall diameter as the off-road wheel/tire, and thus should not affect the ride height at all

    Sport: 265/65/17 - 30.56in
    O/R: 265/70/16 - 30.61in

I have the same problem. In fact it is at the dealership today for this issue. I told them not to just throw some grease on and call it a day. Rumor is there is a TSB or some other bulletin coming out for this problem. The first dealer I took it too tried to tell me it was my exhaust banging around and tried to put the blame on my Flowmaster even though I made no change to the stock piping and put a SMALLER muffler in... Anyway, it is definitely the leafs so we'll see what position this dealer takes...

The JBL system has an external one. As far as I know the others have a built in one.

I a special order that since received my money back.If they offered me more then I paid for like you that would be great. But they offered less.

At this point dealers are a dime a dozen. If I new it was the dealer I would just go to a different one. But I am starting to believe the manufacture (Toyota) if to blame because they will not even confirm or denie they ever recieved the order.

    > But I am starting to believe the manufacture (Toyota) if to blame because they will not even confirm or denie they ever recieved the order.<>

According to Toyota's FAQ, there are no special orders. See below from Toyota FAQ

    Question
The vehicles available at my local Toyota dealerships have too many or too few options. Can I custom order a Toyota from the factory?

    Answer
All new Toyota vehicles sold in the continental U.S. and Alaska are built based on current market trends and demand levels.
A dealership may be able to find your desired vehicle and arrange to acquire it from another dealership. Your dealership may be able to meet your request through the installation of genuine Toyota accessories.

    hey rideamtn-

does the seat close up over the subwoofer? it looks like the seatback is removed in one of your pics. but i see it on the back of the seat in another pic. can you hear the sub with the seat folded up? thanks

They are contradicting them selves then.

Go to Toyota.com (Click buy a Toyota)
Enter your Zip Code and see if you see the Build a Toyota tab at the Top
That is how I got in this mess. But Toyota thinks they own no responsibility in this?
  • boone88rrboone88rr Member Posts: 194
It's a little more complicated than that. You aren't "building" a Tacoma. When you enter your zip and then click build your Toyota they are just listing the common packages for you region of the country. Just like toytruck said "...are built based on current market trends and demand levels." Special ordering a car is nothing more than having the dealer locate an existing model from another dealership anywhere in the country and/or being put on the list for the next Tacoma matching your wanted packages that rolls off the line. Then if you want, "Your dealership may be able to meet your request through the installation of genuine Toyota accessories." So for anybody that I've read on here that has had to wait for 6 weeks or whatever, it's just because you are ordering a popular truck that normally isn't offered in your area. Certain allocations of that particular truck have to be sent to the regions they are intended before your dealer gets his grubby little hands on one.

So yes you did get screwed. I think your dealership sold "your" truck on you while you were on vacation and doesn't want to admit it. So don't say it's Toyota's fault because it should be all on your dealer.

Now since production of the 2006's should have started, it may be very hard for them to locate a truck like you originally wanted since no new ones are rolling off the line. I'd raise hell with the dealer and make them give you a sweet deal on something equivalent or better.

Go to the next step and try to locate your vehicle. It will show you how close you can get to what you want and it will tell you how long it will take the dealer to get it. It doesn't provide a procedure for custom ordering. I "ordered" a Toyota truck in the past. All the dealer could do was search the scheduled production for something close to what I wanted and request it. The differences were minor so I was satisfied. Fortunately, my dealer was up-front about all of this.
  • firsttacomafirsttacoma Member Posts: 18
How can you say Toyota is not at fault? They put the build the Toyota Tab on there web site? It does not say find a Toyota as you imply.

Toyota Provided the dealer a Build Date.

    Toyota Provided the ship date.

But they will not confirm the vehical was built or shipped?
If they would, I would know it was the dealer and go to a diffent one.

At this point I have to believe the dealer that Toyota did not deliver.
  • boone88rrboone88rr Member Posts: 194
If they provided a build date and a ship date to your dealer, what more do you want from Toyota?

You've got a shady dealer, who obviously has a lot to gain by saying "uhh, we never got it?!?" :confuse:

How would Toyota be able to confirm if it was shipped or not? Do you have a VIN number? How many trucks do you think they ship out a day? Just yours?

Go to another dealer or get over it. I suggest you take this to the "Toyota Tacoma: Prices Paid & Buying Experience" Forum.
  • firsttacomafirsttacoma Member Posts: 18
.Q:If they provided a build date and a ship date to your dealer, what more do you want from them?

A: Confirmation of build and shippment. Suggest removing the Build a Toyota tab of thier web page or retitel it Find a Toyota

Q: How would Toyota be able to confirm if it was shipped or not?
A: You must think they are so unorginized they don't have record of what they built or shipped. I think Toyota would have thier act together to know this. They know what they shipped to that dealer.

Q:Do you have a VIN number?
    A: NO

Q: How many trucks do you think they ship out a day? Just yours?
A: Don't know and don't care. I am only concerned with the one .

Go to another dealer or get over it.
A: Go cash your Toyota PAYCHECK

I guess I still don't see how this is Toyota's fault and not your dealer's :confuse:

Well, carry on with your ignorance. By the way, the people on toyotanation.com are telling you the same exact thing I've been trying to. I have no more patience left. Good luck to you.

It's nice out and I'm going to lunch in my Tacoma. :shades:

Now, now, kids. Let's work at playing together well.

A series of questions were asked.

You got what is in all likelihood honest answers.

The answers didn't soothe your anger, so now you lash out at the persons who took the time to reply.

That's not constructive, or even polite.
I understand that you're angry and disappointed, but that doesn't make the response wrong, and certainly doesn't justify the anger thrown at the respondents.

The build your Toyota (similar to other websites) is a Virtual Build.
You don't really think when you click that button that they are going to allow you to personally assemble it do you? Of course you don't. But if you want to break it down to literal meanings of each word, then reassemble, that's what you'll come up with.

After you "build" you'll notice that it shows you vehicles close to your choices, along with the differences in red. That's merely telling you what that wholesaler has in the queue for your area, and the vehicles are subject to previous grabs. Only once the dealer requests the allocation is it tagged for the DEALER -not for you. It's the dealer that owes you allegiance at that point, and I'd say that's who either screwed up and doesn't have the fortitude to admit, or they intentionally screwed you.

[I've bought 2 Toyotas, each time using the website to determine what I wanted, sometimes the ones scheduled for a few days had already been allocated to some other dealer when my dealer looked for it, but she would then put in a request, and once it was allocated, she would contact me to say she got the allocation and the date of scheduled shipment. I can only guess that's what happened w/ your dealer, and then they found someone else that was not as good of a purch price negotiator as you to sell it to in your absence.]

It was good advice for you to go back to the dealer and point out their contract w/ you and EXPECT (not demand rudely, but calmly and politely express your expectations) that they fulfill their obligation as closely as possible, which may mean a few perks at no charge where they can't meet the exact original obligation.

Now, if you want to stew and be angry, that's your choice. If you want to solve the problem, people here -that YOU asked- have provided suggestions.

There are two basic ways of handling a problem - wallow in and even analyze how you FEEL about the problem, or SOLVE the problem, then you don't have to worry about how the problem makes you feel. The choice is up to you.

You must have done a good job of negotiating the purchase when you weren't upset, if it was worth it to them to screw you over, so why not use those skills to negotiate how they'll make it up to you. If not, take those skills to another dealer that you feel you have more confidence in and start over.

I was wondering if anyone has replaced the bulbs in the fog lights to some other bulb such as a driving light bulb. Did you receive any benefits from doing this, and if so what is the part number for the different bulbs
  • rideamtnrideamtn Member Posts: 16
The seat folds back, no problem. I removed the seat for pics only. You can hear the sub, it sounds decent. The problem is space in the rear doesn't allow a very deep sub box. The sub hits fairly hard but would sound better with a deeper box. I actually took the back plastic cover off the seat. It will give a little more boom.

I went to the fleet salesman at my local dealer and told him what I wanted. An impulse red, long bed pre runner dbl cab v6 at. He looked to see what was on his next shipment and had a white dbl cab and a silver dbl cab in the next delivery. We made a change of color, added DeeZee tubesteps, changed the interior color and added the locking differential. He made up the change order (preferencing request) on both trucks to my specs and submitted it. 3 days later he called and said he had confirmation on one of them. Three weeks later my truck was delivered. He said the less changes you ask for increases your chances and it helps to go to a dealer that moves a lot of trucks as they get their requests granted first.

What was the model of the amp that you added??
  • lamikelamike Member Posts: 27
It is correct that the dealer should be the one to get your truck for you. It's their responsibility to find it once you order it. My DC was ordered in March and the first dealer gave me 6-8 weeks delivery. When the 8 weeks were up and I had no truck I was upset and demanded that they deliver in 2 weeks. They said that Toyota did not build it and it would be another 8 weeks. Rather than wasting time with them and waiting, I had them return my deposit and immediately checked out every dealer in a 200 mile radius. My truck was delivered in 2 weeks by a dealer who swapped with another dealer and had the truck allocated to him. Best part is that I got it for $2500 less and got free window tint all around.

The point is don't stew over it! Just go out and find a dealer who will get it done regardless of who's problem it is.

I just ordered mine from PIAA. Use HB's for the fog lights and H4's for the headlights. I'm installing tomorrow so I'll let you know how it works out. I'm installing the GTX bulbs.

I have a CompuStar 2WSS-AS remote starter/alarm on my 05 Tacoma. It works great. The remote has over a mile range, and it will page you if somebody is messing with your truck. I really love this alarm/remote starter. Probably the best accessory I have added to the truck.

Here's a link to the alarm. CompuStar

The 05 Tacoma does have a chip in the key. There is a sensor near the ignition that looks for the signal from the chip. The trucks computer won't let the engine start without sensing the chip. But alarm companies make a thing called a 'transponder' which will duplicate the signal, and make the computer think that the key chip is acutually in the ignition. The transponder usually costs an extra $20-$40.

I've done the exact same thing. The PIAA bulbs are awesome. I got mine off of Ebay. They are pretty easy to install. The trucks manual shows how to replace the bulbs.

Here's mine with the PIAA bulbs, and PIAA 5250 lamps mounted on a Westin Bull Bar.

I'm having trouble trying to decipher just what the difference is between the 2 offroad pkgs OC/OG (#1 & #2). I'm sure there is someone out there who is knowledgeable enough to have the answer readily available???

Is there a consensus about which one of these is the better of the two??

Isn't number 2 just number 1 with the tow package...
  • bro45usbro45us Member Posts: 36
That is what im getting at. The sport and offroad wheel/tire combo are nearly the same. What i'm saying is that the suspension must be taller than the suspension on my 05 lb 4X4 SR5 non TRD because my sport sits so much higher off the ground than my non trd did.

How much did the new bulbs improve over the stock ones. Did visability increase or stay the same, and how much did the bulbs cost ya. thanks
  • ruskastudruskastud Member Posts: 34
#2 just has the added tow package with all the extras that entails (Class IV towing hitch, transmission oil cooler (automatic transmission models), supplemental engine oil cooler, heavy-duty battery, 130-amp alternator and 7-pin connector with converter)

Hope that helps. It is all outlined uder the option tab on toyota.com.

As was stated from the Toyota FAQ, Toyota does not actually accept customer special orders like the domestics. When you "order" a Taco, the dealer is simply putting in a request to the regional distributor that says, "if a vehicle equipped like this is built, I have a customer for it." The distributor places actual factory orders, and they just say things like "give me 300 Tacomas like this, 300 like that, and 400 like something else..." - the distributor receives the trucks, they can add things like stripes and other add-ons, then those trucks are allocated to the dealers. When you order a truck from GM, Ford, or Chrysler, the specific order actually goes to the manufacturer, that exact vehicle is built for you, and it's shipped directly to the dealer.

The Toyota website likely labels their specification area "Build Your Toyota" to be in sync with everyone else... would a more acccurate label be "Available Equipment"? Probably.

Bottom line is, Toyota is still technically a Japanese manufacturer despite all the Northg American plants. This is how they've always done business in the US. Unless they drop the entire regional distributor system and operate like the domestics in terms of accepting actual customer orders instead of dealer "requests", getting the exact Tacoma you want will basically be just this side of luck.

The visibility and color is much better. The bulbs are on Ebay for about $60 a pair, and PIAAs usually last about 5 years. It was worth the $, to me.

I'm just got my 05 DC LB Tacoma and am looking at options for the retractable black aluminum types of bed covers. Do you need to remove the existing rail to install? I'll look into the pop-n-lock as well.

Has anyone installed the Pace Edwards retractable black aluminum bed cover? Any trouble?

    Your help is greatly appreciated!

if you didn't accept the refund, you might have had a leg to stand on against the dealer or toyota.... you had a contract!

toyota will not discuss their policies about/with their dealerships.. un professional

they won't talk about things like that, it's between you and the dealer. the dealers are hindered by allocations.... they can't always get what they want. but do frequently deal and swap between each other. (if you still had a contract, they'd find you a vehicle in a reasonable amount of time. that's what they did for me) if they don't,.... that's when you go to toyota yelling,- this dealership sold me a truck took my money, and you can't deliver..... what's up with that?????

Just learning to navigate this Forum. Not sure if my question for rigid folding tonno cover got lost in the shuffle. I don't find any ads for this particular kind of tonno for the wider body '05 Taco Access Cab. Any info appreciated.
  • len888len888 Member Posts: 112
Building it depends on how you and the dealer go about it.

First know dealer costs. Next negotiate a price and lock in with a deposit. (In my case Dealer invoice for base truck, SR5 Pkg #3 and options plus $500. profit.) Next, ask your dealer to call his distributor to inquire what specs/options are available or can be ordered for a future allocation then place a 'special order' for future allocation.

The Taco I wanted (ie. price locked in) was not available stateside for eastern region allocations but the distributor confirmed that one enroute from Japan had the body, engine, color with the SR5 Convenience Pkg #3. . Most options I wanted would be added at the assembly plant/port in CA. Thereafter, it took a call from the dealer to the distributor who contacted the assembly plant in Calif.. Leadtime was 10wks ARO. This resulted in my getting The Acc Cab 4x4 V6 auto with SR5 Package #3, preferred Accessory Package, Bed Mat, Auto-Dimming Mirror, Tow Hitch, Running Boards Cargo Divider from the factory and Daytime Running lites from the dealer. Not available by hook or crook for northeast region was HAC and DAC. My dealer went the extra mile to fill my order and still only charged $500. over invoice. He did charge me for TDA, Dealer Holdback and Whsle financial reserve. Size of dealership matters when dealer talks to the distributor as does customer loyalty and attitude.

len888.... all the tacomas are built for the american market in fremont california. they are not shipped by boat like other toyota models..... any deal you make with the dealer for price, is between you and the dealer. i actually paid less than sticker price, including tax, tag, title, and destination charges.....

I don't know if they have come out with one for the 05 yet, but you can try searching for a Fold-A-Cover which may fits your needs.

    Hey Everyone,

Just got my Toyota today. It is a double cab. It took me 4 months to get this truck and the dealer said that because you live in Canada it will take this long. I was not sure if I believed him. Anyway, I have put 200 km's on this truck and 1st impressions are that it is quiet and smooth. I have been listening to anything that may become an issue down the road. I got the bed mat, side visors, 3m plastic for front of hood, running boards and mats. I did not purchase the bug deflector because of problems of scratching the paint. I was concerned about the chipping so I got the running boards as well. The whole package cost me $43,000 plus the roll n lock for the truck which was another $1300.00. I plan to put a car starter and DVD in it for the winter. I will be changing the plug in the box so the truck does not have to be running when you use it. Oh Yeah, make sure that this vehicle will fit in your garage. I had to readjust my stairs in the garage to get it in. I will send pictures later.

While waiting for my truck to be built, I've been reading this forum for a couple weeks now....what an incredible help it has been and no, it hasn't made me regret my decision to buy this truck (Dbl Cab 4WD, TRD #2) I think all these issues can be solved and here's one I have found works great....

Go to www.quietcoat.com for an eye opening experience (and ear opening too). I've used this stuff on old off roaders where tire and road noise drown out the finest audio set up. This coating far surpasses any mats or sound deadening materials made. Dynamats are a waste of money. This stuff works, and you can brush it on in several coats...no I'm not a salesman for the company, but when I found quiet coat, I started putting on every surface I could, and it made a huge difference. I have even used it on glass seals for wind noise, though you have to be careful in application. Best places to put it include inside hood, and cab floor boards.
