At this point dealers are a dime a dozen. If I new it was the dealer I would just go to a different one. But I am starting to believe the manufacture (Toyota) if to blame because they will not even confirm or denie they ever recieved the order.
According to Toyota's FAQ, there are no special orders. See below from Toyota FAQ
Question
The vehicles available at my local Toyota dealerships have too many or too few options. Can I custom order a Toyota from the factory?
Answer
All new Toyota vehicles sold in the continental U.S. and Alaska are built based on current market trends and demand levels.
A dealership may be able to find your desired vehicle and arrange to acquire it from another dealership. Your dealership may be able to meet your request through the installation of genuine Toyota accessories.
does the seat close up over the subwoofer? it looks like the seatback is removed in one of your pics. but i see it on the back of the seat in another pic. can you hear the sub with the seat folded up? thanks
Go to Toyota.com (Click buy a Toyota)
Enter your Zip Code and see if you see the Build a Toyota tab at the Top
That is how I got in this mess. But Toyota thinks they own no responsibility in this?
So yes you did get screwed. I think your dealership sold "your" truck on you while you were on vacation and doesn't want to admit it. So don't say it's Toyota's fault because it should be all on your dealer.
Now since production of the 2006's should have started, it may be very hard for them to locate a truck like you originally wanted since no new ones are rolling off the line. I'd raise hell with the dealer and make them give you a sweet deal on something equivalent or better.
Toyota Provided the dealer a Build Date.
Toyota Provided the ship date.
But they will not confirm the vehical was built or shipped?
If they would, I would know it was the dealer and go to a diffent one.
At this point I have to believe the dealer that Toyota did not deliver.
You've got a shady dealer, who obviously has a lot to gain by saying "uhh, we never got it?!?" :confuse:
How would Toyota be able to confirm if it was shipped or not? Do you have a VIN number? How many trucks do you think they ship out a day? Just yours?
Go to another dealer or get over it. I suggest you take this to the "Toyota Tacoma: Prices Paid & Buying Experience" Forum.
A: Confirmation of build and shippment. Suggest removing the Build a Toyota tab of thier web page or retitel it Find a Toyota
Q: How would Toyota be able to confirm if it was shipped or not?
A: You must think they are so unorginized they don't have record of what they built or shipped. I think Toyota would have thier act together to know this. They know what they shipped to that dealer.
Q:Do you have a VIN number?
A: NO
Q: How many trucks do you think they ship out a day? Just yours?
A: Don't know and don't care. I am only concerned with the one .
Go to another dealer or get over it.
A: Go cash your Toyota PAYCHECK
Well, carry on with your ignorance. By the way, the people on toyotanation.com are telling you the same exact thing I've been trying to. I have no more patience left. Good luck to you.
It's nice out and I'm going to lunch in my Tacoma. :shades:
Sure your old enough to drive?
A series of questions were asked.
You got what is in all likelihood honest answers.
The answers didn't soothe your anger, so now you lash out at the persons who took the time to reply.
That's not constructive, or even polite.
I understand that you're angry and disappointed, but that doesn't make the response wrong, and certainly doesn't justify the anger thrown at the respondents.
The build your Toyota (similar to other websites) is a Virtual Build.
You don't really think when you click that button that they are going to allow you to personally assemble it do you? Of course you don't. But if you want to break it down to literal meanings of each word, then reassemble, that's what you'll come up with.
After you "build" you'll notice that it shows you vehicles close to your choices, along with the differences in red. That's merely telling you what that wholesaler has in the queue for your area, and the vehicles are subject to previous grabs. Only once the dealer requests the allocation is it tagged for the DEALER -not for you. It's the dealer that owes you allegiance at that point, and I'd say that's who either screwed up and doesn't have the fortitude to admit, or they intentionally screwed you.
[I've bought 2 Toyotas, each time using the website to determine what I wanted, sometimes the ones scheduled for a few days had already been allocated to some other dealer when my dealer looked for it, but she would then put in a request, and once it was allocated, she would contact me to say she got the allocation and the date of scheduled shipment. I can only guess that's what happened w/ your dealer, and then they found someone else that was not as good of a purch price negotiator as you to sell it to in your absence.]
It was good advice for you to go back to the dealer and point out their contract w/ you and EXPECT (not demand rudely, but calmly and politely express your expectations) that they fulfill their obligation as closely as possible, which may mean a few perks at no charge where they can't meet the exact original obligation.
Now, if you want to stew and be angry, that's your choice. If you want to solve the problem, people here -that YOU asked- have provided suggestions.
There are two basic ways of handling a problem - wallow in and even analyze how you FEEL about the problem, or SOLVE the problem, then you don't have to worry about how the problem makes you feel. The choice is up to you.
You must have done a good job of negotiating the purchase when you weren't upset, if it was worth it to them to screw you over, so why not use those skills to negotiate how they'll make it up to you. If not, take those skills to another dealer that you feel you have more confidence in and start over.
The point is don't stew over it! Just go out and find a dealer who will get it done regardless of who's problem it is.

Here's a link to the alarm. CompuStar
The 05 Tacoma does have a chip in the key. There is a sensor near the ignition that looks for the signal from the chip. The trucks computer won't let the engine start without sensing the chip. But alarm companies make a thing called a 'transponder' which will duplicate the signal, and make the computer think that the key chip is acutually in the ignition. The transponder usually costs an extra $20-$40.
Here's mine with the PIAA bulbs, and PIAA 5250 lamps mounted on a Westin Bull Bar.
Is there a consensus about which one of these is the better of the two??
Hope that helps. It is all outlined uder the option tab on toyota.com.

The Toyota website likely labels their specification area "Build Your Toyota" to be in sync with everyone else... would a more acccurate label be "Available Equipment"? Probably.
Bottom line is, Toyota is still technically a Japanese manufacturer despite all the Northg American plants. This is how they've always done business in the US. Unless they drop the entire regional distributor system and operate like the domestics in terms of accepting actual customer orders instead of dealer "requests", getting the exact Tacoma you want will basically be just this side of luck.

Has anyone installed the Pace Edwards retractable black aluminum bed cover? Any trouble?
Your help is greatly appreciated!
toyota will not discuss their policies about/with their dealerships.. un professional
they won't talk about things like that, it's between you and the dealer. the dealers are hindered by allocations.... they can't always get what they want. but do frequently deal and swap between each other. (if you still had a contract, they'd find you a vehicle in a reasonable amount of time. that's what they did for me) if they don't,.... that's when you go to toyota yelling,- this dealership sold me a truck took my money, and you can't deliver..... what's up with that?????
First know dealer costs. Next negotiate a price and lock in with a deposit. (In my case Dealer invoice for base truck, SR5 Pkg #3 and options plus $500. profit.) Next, ask your dealer to call his distributor to inquire what specs/options are available or can be ordered for a future allocation then place a 'special order' for future allocation.
The Taco I wanted (ie. price locked in) was not available stateside for eastern region allocations but the distributor confirmed that one enroute from Japan had the body, engine, color with the SR5 Convenience Pkg #3. . Most options I wanted would be added at the assembly plant/port in CA. Thereafter, it took a call from the dealer to the distributor who contacted the assembly plant in Calif.. Leadtime was 10wks ARO. This resulted in my getting The Acc Cab 4x4 V6 auto with SR5 Package #3, preferred Accessory Package, Bed Mat, Auto-Dimming Mirror, Tow Hitch, Running Boards Cargo Divider from the factory and Daytime Running lites from the dealer. Not available by hook or crook for northeast region was HAC and DAC. My dealer went the extra mile to fill my order and still only charged $500. over invoice. He did charge me for TDA, Dealer Holdback and Whsle financial reserve. Size of dealership matters when dealer talks to the distributor as does customer loyalty and attitude.
Just got my Toyota today. It is a double cab. It took me 4 months to get this truck and the dealer said that because you live in Canada it will take this long. I was not sure if I believed him. Anyway, I have put 200 km's on this truck and 1st impressions are that it is quiet and smooth. I have been listening to anything that may become an issue down the road. I got the bed mat, side visors, 3m plastic for front of hood, running boards and mats. I did not purchase the bug deflector because of problems of scratching the paint. I was concerned about the chipping so I got the running boards as well. The whole package cost me $43,000 plus the roll n lock for the truck which was another $1300.00. I plan to put a car starter and DVD in it for the winter. I will be changing the plug in the box so the truck does not have to be running when you use it. Oh Yeah, make sure that this vehicle will fit in your garage. I had to readjust my stairs in the garage to get it in. I will send pictures later.
If so how hard is it to install them
Go to www.quietcoat.com for an eye opening experience (and ear opening too). I've used this stuff on old off roaders where tire and road noise drown out the finest audio set up. This coating far surpasses any mats or sound deadening materials made. Dynamats are a waste of money. This stuff works, and you can brush it on in several coats...no I'm not a salesman for the company, but when I found quiet coat, I started putting on every surface I could, and it made a huge difference. I have even used it on glass seals for wind noise, though you have to be careful in application. Best places to put it include inside hood, and cab floor boards.
