    on base model doesnt fold.
    Anybody have weird experience with the fresh/recirculate air modes? I was tryin to defog the windshield w/outside air and it kept going to recirc. If I went to "face" position, it would allow outside air. Also, the A/C feels like its on sometimes, but no visual indication. -scott

    GM contracts out the freight to the railroad and the trucking companies. As their prices rise they pass the price back to GM who passes it on to the consumer. The reason everyone pays the same amount of freight is to keep prices reasonable for those who do not live 20 minutes from a factory. Fuel prices have gone up anywhere from 50 to 100% depending what you use and where you live in the last year. Everyone is just trying to make a living. Now the trick to this is will GM pass the lower costs back to the costumer when fuel prices decrease?

    The A/C does come on in all vehicles when you select the defrost mode. This is to take some of the humidity out of the air before you blow it on the cold windshield to prevent condensation on the inside. I assume that is why they turn the recirculation on as well.

    On my truck it is just the opposite. With defrost on only outside air comes on, but in any other mode I can use both outside and recirc. air. Don't know if this is opposite of you, but it seems to work fine.

    a certain point on the dial..moving towards Defog...Fresh air only is how it works on my truck.

    I figure it must be How can you defog with the same air that is in the truck that had caused it to fog?

    GM doesn't set the Delivery Price. It is set by the Transportation company that is under contract to deliver the vehicle.

    What's happening now is every car company is getting fuel escalation clauses invoked by the transport companies because the price of fuel is going up. We are all at the mercy of OPEC. This goes not only for new vehicle delivery, but everything we purchase. It affects food, clothing, durable goods, everything. All we can hope is the prices stay stable or start dropping before you get your truck and the prices shouldn't go up anymore.

    Storch: I put the PIAA 100w in high beam slot only $49.99 pr., this way I have some control over what I'm hitting oncoming traffic with, the PIAA low beam lamp was 80w which will get you pulled over by our local town police force & does blind other drivers. Considering the standard set-up is low55w/high65w I went with what I could get away without collecting tickets.

    Jmes: The Sylvania Blue's are available at local AutoZone or auto stores if you go with those, they keep the same 55/65 wattage but put out a white light over the standard yellowish factory. I have them in my car & it was an improvement over standard halogen lamp.

    I recently installed a 180 degree thermostat and have not noticed any change in running temp. The stock thermo ran at about 200. I am still running about 200. It's not stuck open because it warms up just as fast as it used to. It's not stuck closed because it never goes above 200. Any advise would be great!

    180 stat is about 2-3 degrees cooler than stock. Unfortunate waste of money. 160 degree stat is the way to go. If you are trying to lower your running temp. Actual running temp will be about 180 degree with the 160.

    and no hypertech yet. Guess I'm waiting like many here. Interesting on the engine codes, guess we'll see when we get it. Kinda bugs me cause I don't know what kind of fuel mileage I'm getting now. Have the 285's, but have not been able to reprogram for them. Mileage dropped about 1.5 MPG, but suspect it's actually about the same. Nasty power obyone, that's just nasty. Save your money for tires...

    Why can't you calculate your mileage?? You can easily figure out the difference in tire size diameters as a percentage, just adjust you mileage readings accordingly to that percentage.

    Anybody ever figure out if the torsion bars can be adjusted to raise the front end up (is this a good idea)? Exactly what will it do to the front end geometry? ride quality? handling? alignment? I believe "199lt5point3" said it worked for him.

    just ordered 2500 2wd,5.3 with 3.73 locking rear diff.dealer said no more orders for sliding rear window.also told that polished aluminum wheels may not be available.any thought,s or comment,s.when can I expect truck? how about after market sliders?

    I believe someone else posted the same thing last week on the status. I ordered from Truck Performance. They tell they are receiving them - just not many at a time it may be a few weeks. Then I called Hypertech on Monday. They are not even shipping them yet. I hate it when someone lies to me just to get my business. They do have the best price and they are on top of it enough to at least know the right part number though, which a couple of other places did not know - it is changing for 2000. Confirmed with Hypertech - 2000 model 5.3 engine - part number is 30002.

    I mainly want mine to change the tire size as well. But if gas prices will drop a little, I want to try their other computer settings - 17 HP and 35 lbs torque increase. But you have to burn premium gasoline with the changed settings.

    But still don't have the truck yet - built last week though - hope its soon.

    I have almost 1000 miles on my pickup now. I installed a set of Edelbrock IAS Shocks to replace the Z71 Tenneco Shocks. WOW, what a difference on & off road! The Silverado rides like a luxury car, yet handles like a sport car. I am most impressed with the Edelbrock Shocks & highly recommend them to anyone who wants to improve the ride & handling.

    The LT full feature seats are great. I never gave the interior mirror much thought but once you have it, you really appreciate it at night. Other things I like about my truck, the driver's side rear door. I really like the GM soft tonneau cover. I have a ATV & didn't want a hard tonneau cover.

    Why would anyone want to run a thermostat cooler than the one the engine was designed to use? Lowering the temperature just lowers the efficiency of the engine and raises the potential for polution products that the cat converter has to deal with. All modern engines are designed to run hot. Please enlighten a poor old mechanical engineer.

    My order for a 2000 3/4 ton LS 4x4 just went in. With Polished Aluminum Wheels.

    No rear sliding window orders were being accepted. The only other thing I could not get was the Auxillary Battery. Even though the Build your own site says it is available in CA with a manual trans, I couldn't order it that way. Oh well, I have Vince4's details on adding it after the truck arrives.

    I dont have it yet, but it is the same as the SaddleMan brand. My Pep Boys has it for around $230. Have you seen it for less? I like the fact that it goes beside the rails, not over. And it will allow dirt bikes, etc with minor difficulty.

    Low temp T-stat is used in conjunction w/engine mods. -scott

    I think they are trying to prevent the engine from predetonating (pinging and knocking) when they mess with the spark timing and the air fuel mixture.

    Car and Driver did complete dyno tests on a number of 1999 vehicles (including a Silverado with a 5.3L engine and an automatic tranny)using chip upgrades and re-programming tools. They did dyno tests before and after as well as tests at the drag strip. The only one that made any real performance changes was the Hyper Tech in the Silverado. There was no horsepower gains however the tool allows for changes in the transmission shift points and that helped on the street. Plus the fact that it allows you to recalibrate the speedo if you change tire sizes is also a nice feature.

    IMHO most bolt on after market performance mods are nothing more than the hardware equivalent of snake oil.

    You want real significant horsepower gains you need to dramatically increase the amount of air and fuel used during the combustion process. The only way to do that is with either through internal and external engine mods, a bigger engine, supercharger/turbo charger or nitrous oxide. Then the question of how reliable will your vehicle be.

    There is a saying in racing "horsepower costs money, how fast do you want to go?"

    It is my understanding that running a cooler thermostat in todays electronic motors does nothing more than trick the computer into thinking the engine is cold, or colder than it thinks it should be, thus putting it into a cold run mode or choke mode if you will, which does nothing more than give the engine more fuel.

    Now if you have an auxillary computer, like these programmers people are waiting on, or in the old days a new prom. You can reprogram the motor to take advantage of this extra fuel it's getting, thus more power.

    However, to change a thermostat to colder without the other mods to go with it, is a waste of money, time and fuel.

    If you are willing to go to the trouble of removing your thermostat, you can easily modify it yourself in about 1 minute, without need for replacing it with a hypertech.

    Once removed, it comes apart like a radiator cap, press, and rotate. Then just drop in a BB, or 1/8" spacer into the hole, with a small piece of screw thread, and reassemble.

    I did this months ago, and have been delighted ever since. No ill effects. Just a perceived calmer running engine, idles smooth, heater works great, fuel economy unaffected. Runs at about 10-13 degrees cooler if the outside temperature is cool. In hot weather, makes no difference whatsoever, since the thermostat is fully open anyway. Ping has been under control for a long time now, run 85 octane (Colorado regular grade) all the time now.

    This change does not "trick" the engine. The drop in temperature is actual, not perceived. Engines today do run hotter, for emissions compliance reasons. Pre-emissions engines ran colder, not because engineers didn't know how to make them run hotter, it just wasn't desirable. So I don't want to debate. I just want to relate to you my personal experience on this issue, which has been very positive for me, in reducing the occurrence of engine ping. No reason to heed the naysayers...they have not tried this free trick.

    As far as bolt on parts being snake oil...the Granatelli MAF is sposed to increase airflow by a huge amount. But how can the engine handle all this flow w/out a bigger intake and more fuel? I have heard plenty are unhappy with this $300 mod. Now if the lower T-stat does induce "choke mode", this will supply more fuel for all this air. Either way, I want bottom end power, and all these mods seem to rob this. My .02$ -scott

    10-13 degrees cooler from a T-Stat mod is well past the "choke mode" zone. Not even close to acting like a cold engine. The benefit, is that it stops behaving like a "hot" engine, ping, rough idle, hesitation etc.

    The T-stat mod also will not turn on your SES light. Some of those other mods, like the Granetelli, Maf sensor have done this.

    So, adding JBA Headers, a Borla split rear exhaust system and a K&N Air filter only made me think it's has more power?

    Well, still like your airbags? I'm ready to pony up. Got yours at Camping World if I remember right?

    I want the simple, minimal air line setup. You know kinda raggy and plain. How much bucks? How long did it take you to install?

    Went to TX a couple of weeks ago with two guys, two dirtbikes and big trailer, had the equalizer bars cranked way up and rear fender well height was still about 1 1/2" lower than front. I think the bags woulda fixed the problem.

    I know this stuff bores you, but I think the best mod. you can do is to change the tires. I like the 265's, but the 285's look so much better. Ford puts 17" rims on some of there trucks with 265's on them and these 285 16" tires still look better. They really make it stand out.

    17 H.P. and 35 ft. lbs. of torque through the hypertech?? Sounds a little much. Anyone with a 99 done this and noticed a big difference?? Still waiting for 2000 hypertech. Thanks for all the info...

    The part number for your truck is Camping World CW-11551, or Air Lift 59501.

    I think they were around $180, give or take, after presidents club (LOL) discount.

    Took me about 5 hours as I recall, about 1 or 2 of which was consumed by false concerns about how they fit. I had to drill holes through weld beads. I thought they would be hard and brittle, but were soft and easy to drill. Also have to put your hand in some tight places to install the locking nuts inside the frame rail, but they do fit. Somebody good, like you, could do it in half the time. Once installed, you can change an air bag in seconds, without tools, if you need to. I haven't needed to.

    I don't have the on board compressor option, but just ran short lines to (2) shrader valves installed in the fender well lip, and use a bicycle pump. Don't join the two air lines, or air could transfer from one bladder, to the other side during hard cornering, not good.

    Still love 'em and recommend 'em.

    I got my 2000 Silverado last Tuesday, finally got over being awed with everything about it. Sure is a lot different than the ****(classified)F-250 that I had. Man O' Man what a truck. Pure pleasure just to look at it, let alone drive it.
    I hope to settle down to earth soon so I can start dressing that beauty up. It is INDIGO BLUE.

    I havent thought much about the tires i was gonna switch to P265 good year at/s but im gonna stay with the P265 firestone ive come to like em. Maybe when i need to change the tires ill give the P285's consideration. For now ill keep the stock tires. I really like the Alum rims.
