I'm changing the subject for a minute. Car&Driver aired a review of the pre-production model (1 only - $250,000 to develop). Overall they liked it, and mentioned that it was expected out in showrooms by the end of this year.
I find that a little hard to believe. But it sure looks like a winner when it does show up. I hope they can get that rear cab opening deal working properly on the first try (wind noise, etc.)
Remember I have seen Zaino on Red...and like My Malms better on Black....black will always look better I'd imagine.
I'm just saying that 17 years (for me at least)before there was the Zaino Buzz on the net....there was malms. They are both high quality wax.
Everybody has their own preference. I have spoken with Mr.Kolinsky (owner) numerous times and he has helped me out with several problems alond the years....Like when the neighbor painted his garage in the wind on a day when I left the Hurst out side!....I can still feel that one in my back bone....GRRRR
I had priced out the Manik and smittybilt at my local dealer, but then i went to the truck show for the summer grand nationals in bloomsburg, PA and talked a dealer down in price and ended up getting it for $500 tax included. You might be able to find a pic of it at
has anyone purchased from carOrder.com? I am looking to buy a Silverado 4x2 with 6cyl. I put my order in Saturday...It seems like it may take up to few weeks, I dont think I can wait that long...

SOrry about the post i wanted to let Todd know what hes in for doesnt seem to hard. It looks easier than it sounds.
What I went thru w/the TPW deal? first I had one then I didn't???? Sounds like......... Stored in a pole barn? I hope you have a cover for it the birds are looking for nesting sites now & LOVE pole barns LOL
First off ray. I described it as a pole barn only thing i could think of at 8am. Its like a small warehouse i guess you can say. Relax why are you more worried about my truck being safe than i am???
Now Tim. Why is me installing my nerf bars so important to you? Tell you what ill have em installed this time and in 5 yrs when i change them ill do it myself ok??? Deal?
Ryan - I don't know who is really right - but I find GM customer service won't give you any dates until they know they are in concrete and it is dried. Two days after I ordered, my salesman called with an order number and a TPW. GM cust service denied it for two weeks - I asked them to confirm it and they wouldn't. Then what do you know - they finally came up with a TPW - exact same as my salesman gave me two weeks earlier. Keep calling em.
On the Zaino - with the weather in TX this weekend I only got the truck clayed, I'll get the other stuff applied this weekend. One note about Zaino - it isn't wax. There is no carnuba (sp?) wax in the product at all. Not sure what it is - their web site gives the details, but there is no wax in it, unlike Malms - they claim 100% pure carnuba.
Zaino says bad things about carnuba over the long term. Truth be known it really isn't as bad as they make it or most every other product on the market, and there are millions of them, wouldn't use it. There are several products that can give that ultimate shine - some are easier to use than others. It is a preference thing and you have to decide how much time, effort and money you are going to spend using it.
Zaino has won me over for now - I'm just starting with it though - ask again in 6 months and I may have a different answer.
Question for you. Why are you using Mobil 1 if you are planning on selling the truck in a couple years? I am using it as well, but I am hoping to keep my truck a long time. Just curious. I've heard it can give you a little better mileage, but other than that the main advantage I've heard is long term protection.
Chill Ryan....you make yourself wayyyyyy to easy of a target. If you don't have the skill to install Nerf bars...so be it. I don't care either way.
Mark, I use Mobil 1 for the faster flow rating and extra high RPM protection. I have used conventional and had no problems. In winter I start it up and am cruising down the driveway right after...2 miles later I am going 75-80 for a good stretch of highway...everyday. I also make several highway trips thru the year and the extra protection while humming at 80 for 5 hours don't hurt. But back to the question...why use it if I am going to sell it in 2 years? Just because it's not a long term truck for me...why does that mean not to use it? I sold the last 2 trucks to friends of mine....so I wanted this truck...The most expensive one to date...to have the Mobil 1 extra advantage so to speak.
It's not that much extra and is a good "extra" thing to say when you sell it....kinda...
Or we can just say - I use it cuz I want to!...LOL
Mainly for the cold weather starts and high RPM for a long time.
Maybe I may be hurt next week and not be able to work or make as much for a long time and I may HAVE to keep it?
Babbler, If you would have listened to me when I said "Just order it" in Silverado VII you would just be getting it now. But no, you wanted to wait till the day your inheritance matured in some sort of CD.
Zaino, hard for me to believe a product is "so great", yet only be available through mail order.
Malms, same as above AND if it's truely 100% carnuba only Superman could apply it.
Gnipper, where in Texas are ya? Just had lunch with Mike and Larry (I'll let you figure out there userids) and maybe we can make the next lunch a 4-some (Austin, TX).
Larry has the nicest spray in bedliner I have ever seen (and as you remember I'm the one that called it cottage cheese, so you know it's not easy to impress me on spray in bedliners).
Both Larry & Mike have a Lund bug deflector, nice, wish I would have bought that instead of the MPC. Can clean between the hood and deflector. and yes Babbler you could install it, its as easy as plugging in you mouse, printer, monitor and keyboard into your system while chewing gum!!
In all of the literature I have seen, they said production would be in early 2001. I have seen several running around work without any camoflauge on, so they must gearing up to start producing them soon. I can't believe that GM did it so quick, but they seem to have!!
like about that Avalanch is the price. Between a loaded Silverado and Suburban - so probably around $37K - ohhh. I was hoping they'd be under a loaded Silverado, oh well. Bluebeast, you crack me up...
You will get your TPW any day now. About 3 weeks after that. Your well on your way! No worries. You will like Indigo Blue. It looks about 12 inches deep after a wax. Good luck!
Good reasons. You're right about the cold weather starts. I use it in my truck and my wife's Grand Am, and we had no problems with cold starts this winter. I'm sure it prevents a lot of wear on those cold starts as well. I also don't mind going to when the computer says to change it with mobil1. Not sure if i'd feel comfortable with that with conventional oil.
well i got a call today that the 'rado was in! quit work early to go see it and get things started on financing. asked if it had everything on it that i ordered and found out it came thru without the plow-prep and the aux. battery! also came with a wimpy top tailgate protector. not the one with the heavy lip on it. ordered 12/18/99 and waiting all this time and still can't get what i want. thinking of letting them keep it. maybe i'll calm down over night. sorry, just had to vent. if i wait 2 more months i can order a '01
Thanks for the information. What kind of long tube headers would you recommend? Do you have problems with the high heat given off or clearance of things like the steering shaft, etc.?
Brought the truck in to show the dealer..he's surprised that it passed the prep, but said they would take care of it. He thinks the buffing (the scratches - all 50 of em- are on top) will do it, but if not, they will repaint. Couldn't have been nicer. Hopefully the boards will go on tomorrow, if the brackets came in. Also, anyone else have to relog in? I'm on automatic, and I think I have it straightened out now, but I had to keep putting in my password. Haven't had to do that in a long time. Cookies were enabled.
I also redid the tire pressure test this weekend. I filled the tires to exactly 80psi just before dropping the camper on the bed (2500lb) and measured again immediately. Result......80psi.
Now the air bags are a different story. They went up by almost 10psi with the camper weight on.
By the way I think I've found the ideal tire pressure mix (3/4 ton only). Empty: 45 front, 40 rear. Loaded: 50 front, 80 rear. I think these are Tim's findings too, this is getting scary!
Drove the truck w/camper this weekend through the Northern California central valley (flat) and into the mountains up to 7000+ feet. Ran with t/h on all the time and loved it. It's so cool how it seems to know when to hang back and wait to shift, like when you let up on the gas a little to go around a mountain curve. Yet at other times it shifts quickly when you want it to. I'm very happy with it for heavy loads except when driving in town where light throttle is used anyway. Then it's more comfortable to have it off.
Agreeing with me is the only way to go man!...otherwise I will chew you apart!!..LOL
My tire theory is same....almost...I leave 50 in front all the time.....I figure those take most of the road abuse and should be at Max for best sidewall protection.....Ya know? Also it makes it quicker when hauling cuz I only have to adjust the rears! The difference between 45 and 50 ride..is so minimal for me...I feel why not have the max?
....Is there any other theory to live by than mine Vince??
Ron, Thanks for the compliment on the spray-in liner. And I didn't even have to buy you lunch to get it. What did you think of the Catch-all floor mats? I forgot to point out that the Fold-A-Cover has a rubber gasket above each hinge to block water and dust. We also didn't check the front of your pickup box to see if it has the same left-to-right offset as mine and Mike's truck?
I was told the aux battery is not available when I ordered my 2500.
All 2500's come with the small tailgate protector, not the whale tail one.
Snow plow prep is a problem, but you can add the 2nd battery can be added. Vince4 did it, and has written up his findings. Either you can get it from him, or I can send you a copy.
about the tailgate protector.....my 2500 2wd SB xcab came w/the whaletail as I call it & I wish it hadn't because when the cap when on, it came off & in it's place they put on the smooth one, so now I have 4/5 holes drilled in tailgate hidden underneath and a tailgate protector collecting dust..........
did you find any in the back? i did not. all told, i found three where the control arms meet the wheel on each side (for a total of six). then two (one on either end) of the steering linkage. total of eight. be interested to know where else you found 'em, so i can go back and hit 'em. anyone want to weigh in on the rear end? anyone found any back there yet?
thanks for coming back and posting about this. want to keep mine lubed up and running good, but i'm fairly new at this stuff.
Does anyone know of any rebates that are now available on 00 Silverados Ext. Cab, 4 dr? I made a note of a posting #518 on 3/21 by Huntman 99 that there was a $300 commercial rebate on a free toolbox or a certificate to use at Home Depot, but I cannot find out anything about it. Huntman 99 are you still out there? Can you give me more information on this? Does anyone else know about this possibility or any other rebate? Nothing available according to GM, but neither does GM tell you about the $500 rebate available for using H & R Block either! Appreciate your help. Thanks. Bob
Anybody else out there get a safety recall notice on their GM truck recently? Apparently there is a problem with the ABS motor. It could eventually fail, and therefore the ABS function would also fail, brakes still work though. Got my notice March 28.
Does anyone know about buffing out scratches? Does buffing out clearcoat always remove scratches and if they're somewhat deep - what next? I heard someone says ya can't buff out clearcoat paint (??) Don't remember the source.
Is it possible to ruin the clearcoat or paint on the Silverado by buffing? Is that something a person can do without having to take it in?
I know, too many questions.
I AM going to order some of that Zaino stuff, sounds awesome.
I'm in Dallas. I haven't been to Austin in a while, would like to make it down this summer. My email is gdn@ix.netcom.com - you can get me there. If you all plan a get together on a weekend some time - let me know. Also if anyone else is in Dallas, send a note we'll get together on a weekend soon for lunch.
IN JULY? Whats the dude smoking? Didnt you see the brochure or hear anything about when its supposed to come out. It says early next yr. They will be lucky to have all the buggs worked out by then. If they are on his lot in july he has some bootleg chevy avalanches. Im guessing hes telling a slight fib.
That would make 12, and I only found 11. I think the pittman arm from the steering box did not have grease fitting, where the idler arm on the passenger side did.
dmr3 and rayt2,
Yours is the first 2500s I have heard of (certainly not the last) with the whale tail tailgate protector. Is yours a 2500 Light Duty (7200 GVWR) or HD (8600 GVWR)? if both are LD trucks, it might make sense that 2500 LD and 1500 models get the whale tail, and 2500 HDs don't.
Otherwise, maybe it is one of those things we are not meant to understand (like women).
Anyone hear anything thats gonna be new on the 2001 trucks? Only major thing ive heard is a few new colors. One being a SILVER a real silver color not pewter but like the old silver. Any new stickers????? haha Im still trying to find out about my order salesman never got back to me i am guessing he was off yesterday.
Champion Chev., Billy Love - Sales Consultant. I kept saying it was next year (2001) and he insisted he had come out of a meeting yesterday and it's gonna be here in July of 2000 as a 2001 model.
when i looked at the truck, i also looked at the other trucks on the lot and it was a mix of both protectors among all models. 1500's & 2500's with both. so i think it is a matter of what they pulled out of the bin when the truck went by on the assembly line. no rhyme or reason. snow plow prep. and aux. battery. when i was with the dealer owner on the last day to make any changes, he said all the options were ok'ed by the factory as entered and the truck should have come in with them. still waiting for them to call me with an explaination. i deffinately don't want any aftermarket add-ons in place of the factory installed. didn't i pay enough & wait long enough to get what i want?
Hope your right about the avalanche it owuld be nice to see em out in july. They are probably gonna pump em out cause of the explorer sport trac (fianlly seen on the other day driving) also seen a tahoe driving yesterday those are very nice SUV's but kinda look like a durango a lil bit
