Called Vetshade, makers of the Bugflector II, to ask about the wind noise. They said that it is a known problem with the Silverados and their engineers were looking into, but a redesign wasn't due for a few months. So, if you are trying to choose between the Bug II and a Lund, you should either wait or go for a Lund.
naw, i worked with josh wheelock hes the BM over there. those guys were great. i went in on a saturday, picked what i wanted and took delivery following thursday am. havent had any probs with the truck at all. ill check out the service dept soon and see if they are as accomodating as the sales. have you had any experience with the srvc dept yet?
Yep, made an appt. to have the trans. cooler that was left off from the factory installed. Showed up, left the truck, got a call in the afternoon to tell me they "ran out of trans. coolers". Second go around was better, part was there, install was fine. Only time I've been there (14K miles).
i do most of the work on my vehicles myself and i dont expect to rely on the srvc dept(except for warranty wk), i just want to know what kind of people ill be working with when and if i do need them for something. ill probly schedule my first 5000k with them to see how they do..... and maybe make up some kind of something to have them check it out. this will give me an idea what to expect if something ever comes up that needs immediate attention and has to be done according to their schedule not mine.
the toolbox is a "weathertite" and the rail caps are dealer install. both seem rugged enough. i have put both to the test and have held up well. no scratches or chips. 1 afterthought.... on the railcaps there is a possibility for water and dirt to accumulate under the lip. i might remove and get a sprayover line-x. any thoughts?
Thanks for the update from Hypertech. I talked to them yesterday as well - they didn't tell me a thing about the new part number, last I had heard was 30002. Mine is on order from Truck Performance. I called them as well, I was a little hacked - got my credit card bill last weekend - I've already been charged. They explained they work with Hypertech very closely and the HPP III's will drop ship directly from Hypertech, won't have to wait on delivery to TP then reship to me. They bill the CC before they pass the order on. That was the line of BS they fed me anyway. I'll take it as long as I get it in the next couple of weeks.
Put on a Gibson split rear exit last week. Sounds good. You can hear it inside the cab some. Nice ruble, not annoying. Got it from TruckPerformance.com. Also put on the 12" Gibson Stainless tips. I would have liked 18" (or so) tips to go further under the truck, but I couldn't find any stainless that size right off (found chrome).
around, just reading and thinking. Haven't been spending as much time in these posts as I did before I got my truck. WOW is that thing a jewel. I know for certain it has it all over the (deleted) F250. Got Lund Bug Deflector on last Tuesday, DeeZee Fx Extruded Running Boards on next Friday, had to cancel the hitch until the installation guy comes back to work. He hit a tree stump on his snowmobile, sort of screwed up his shoulder. Should be back next week. But so far I can't complain about a darn thing, so I won't. Be talking later....
Automotive car wax -> least abrasives Automotive cleaner -> more abrasives Automotive polish -> more abrasives Automotive rubbing compound -> most abrasive
If the scratch is deep enough you can catch a nail, the first three aren't going to work. Too much rubbing with #4, you can go all the way through the clear coat...not good.
Lots of minor scratches I've polished out with nothing more than wax, and elbow grease. NOT ON MY SILVERADO.
thanks for the hypertech update. Will call my supplier to make sure I get the right one also, they also said they would drop ship from hypertech - if the stupid thing would only come...
Cool truck where was that at? Is that a ford truck? Coldnt really tell to great but it looked kinda like an F-150. Looks like the tailgate took alot of time to do. Nice pic
Actually havent spent enough time in front of it cant u tell i havent had that many posts lately? Maybe that grill guard made it look like a F-150 it was kinda shaped like it sorry. Allergies are killing the eyes though very itchy.
you can tell its a chevy by the shock placement on the rear axel, the rear bumper, the fender-flares, the shape of the fenders, the side mirrors, the tail lights.....................
Have you changed your oil yet? I would like to go to Mobil 1 or Amsoil 5w-30 as soon as I can. But not sure how many miles to go before I do. I know that I read somewhere on these posts about this question, but couldn't find it.
Open to any response from anyone that might have a suggestion. Also when to drop break-in oil?
1800 miles so far on factory oil, there is no special oil used from factory on break-in it's the same you by off the shelf only they get it in 55 gal. drums & pump out by metering amount for specific engine applications. I will change oil/filter @3000 mile intervals as I have done on all my new vehicles & never had a problem. Plus I get the first year of oil changes for free from dealer who could not get the allocation on my original order (there's a dealer w/integrity).
Your answers/opinions will vary greatly on this subject, be prepared. If I were to use the Mobil 1 I would change every 10000 but I am not sold on the synthetics & Cosumers Reports did some extensive testing on oils a while back & basically said change @ 5000 mile intervals and make sure oil meets specs.
I also ordered my HPPIII from truck performance. That was in Jan. and they too charged my credit card. I'm not worried about it though. I have done business with them in the past and they were very pleasant and honest. I got my parts the next day, (so. ca to no. ca). I also called them after I talked to Hypertech and they said I would get the latest part number. I'm just anxious for it to be released!
This subject has been going round and round. I'll throw my two cents in. I changed my oil for the first time at 1000 miles and put in the Mobil 1 5w-30. Now I change it every 5000 miles. No problems (12,500 miles). (always use the AC Delco PF59 filter, the serice dept won't even look at the motor if there is ever a problem and the stock filter is not used)
Also, I truely think it doesn't really matter how soon you put in snythetic oil. If it did, why would the Corvettes come from the factory with Mobil 1 5w-30? One would think GM would want to proctect one of those motors more than a truck motor!
Actually its a 2000 Sierra. I took it yesterday at the Minneapolis Auto Show. I thought the tailgate was sharp (the Quality, not the Quantity). Maybe it doesn't show up well on the picture.
There were some cool Silverados, Subs, Tahoes as well. Maybe I'll post some later. I just wanted to test and see if I figured out how to post these properly.
I had to enlarge the pic and look for the details a second before I determined it was indeed a GM. Then the first thing I noticed that hacked me off was the painted fender flares, that is what I wanted. Since the truck is custom, they may have painted them themselves- not factory. GMC (didn't check Chevy) indeed says these will be painted black on a black truck. They aren't - you get the flat black plastic. They look sharp on the truck in the pic - that is what I had hoped for - oh well, pretty minor I guess - the rest of the truck is incredible so far - at 200 miles.
Mine are VERY brite aluminum and should stay that way awhile as they have been "powder coated". They seem rugged enuff. As to the gaps, you could run a bead of RTV(black or clear) to fill them. Mask it and use liquid soap on your finger to smooth it. Or just wait a few years and then cover "dirty" area with the spray-on.
Why do people still get cheap plastic rail caps? -scott
There IS a new part # for the Lund bug deflector for 2000. It is 18064. I called the sales people at Wrenchead.com and was given the above part. They couldn't tell what the difference was between the new one and the older 18063, except that 18064 is for the 2000's. It's still under $50.
I know all about installation of the above bug shied since I'm a Certified Left-Handed Screwdriver Engineer.
HAHA SORRY BOUT THAT SINCE EVERYONE HAS A NAME THOUGHT ID GIVE YA ONE. DIDNT MEAN ANYTHING BAD BY IT. opps sorry bout the caps lock. Nah i didnt look at one before i bought it i just drove 4 of em. I didnt look at the big pic just the small one on the screen already now that i look at it yea its a gm.
but i can't come up with anything off the top of my head that differs between the gmc and the chevy from that angle. major features that distinguish the two (besides the badges - gmc vs. chevrolet, silverado vs. sierra - of course) would be the grill/headlights (not seen), and the wheels (customized). can't really think of anything else that would distinguish the two. so...i'm thinking it definitely would not be possible to distinguish whether it was a chevy or gmc based off the picture alone. anyone?
I've learned a lot of good information over the last few weeks reading this board and yes, I've learned that the Lund bug guard attaches underneath the hood in pre-punched holes. (Just had to take a jab at Ryan seeing as everyone else does. LOL)
Ordered my truck 1500LT 4x4 3rd week in Feb. TPW was 4/3 and is currently in inspection.
In reading this board it seems like some folks get real lemons while others not a problem at all. Anyone know if this is a correlation to the factory it's built at? I found out my truck was built in Michigan (Pontiac East??)
Part # 18064 HAS to fit a 1999, there are no differences on the hood/grill that would make it a "2000" only. This new part # is probably just a "tweeked version" of the "old" part #.
babbler, how's the Silverado website coming along? When are you going to post the URL?
