Might be one of the Hi-Po dusters with the turbo 4 cylinder.

Sorry, but you're both wrong on the T-bird. It's a 60 due to the chrome things on the rear fender. The 58 had chrome things on the side torpedo on the doors, and the 59 had a chrome point instead.

bumpy, is it a Dodge Durango ? :surprise:

No, but keep that icon handy.

The Durango being a icon ???? I wouldn't go that far, eh ?

That's gotta be sme euro hot hatch with shaved license late holder.

I'll take a shot and say it's a Seat Ibiza.

The little car icon in your post. You'll need it when I tell you what that vehicle is (and it's not a Seat Ibiza).
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
This and the hatch share a builder.

GEEZ--can you imagine what those tires and wheels do to the chassis? And next he'll complain about rattles and water leaks?
  • rockyleerockylee Member Posts: 14,017
It looks pretty cool but I agree with Shifty. ;)

    Ok, that's better, thank you.

The blue car is a Kia Sephia late 90s. The C Pillar gives it away.

I take it the black one is some sort of Kia too.

Geez, why in the world would anyone modify a Kia, especially a Sephia?

I mean start off with a better platform.

You should see the interior.

    image

The blue bomber is actually a Timor: a controversial Indonesian badge job on the Sephia. The black one is a Kia Picanto (Euro-style supermini) with the license plate alcove flushed off and the plate mounted on the wiper.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
This is not the black hatch I posted earlier.

The dashboard looks like it's got a bad case of mould on it.

I hope he didn't have to pay extra for that.

I like the caption "add more hp" How about get a better car.

Wild guess - Daihatsu Copen? Looks Korean to me.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Sunday only driver, owner claimed it was original (hint #1).

Remember it's Darien, CT, i.e. old money (hint #2).
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Old Bentley Estate Car....yeah, if an "original" car, it was made by a man named Harold Radford (well his company I mean).

But it doesn't quite look like a Radford, so it might be some weirdo renegade one-off. I don't know enough about it.

This type of bodywork was done so as to classify the vehicle as commercial and thus avoid the punitive British purchase taxes.

I'm not convinced it is a particularly valuable car,but if it's a Radford, Mr. Radford did have RR and Bentley approval for his work, so the car is thus as officially "original" as any other specialty-built coachwork of the era.

Of course, some coachwork is much more desirable than others. I always found the Mark VI chassis very clunky and not conducive to customization.

Still, a charming car in its own "period" way....

Here's all you ever wanted to know about Radford:

    http://www.austin-rover.co.uk/index.htm?radfordhistf.htm

Value? I think you'd be hard pressed to top $40,000 for it.

Bentley Mk VI, shooting brake, ca. 1950. That kind of material seemed to be imported a lot in the 60s and 70s.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Sort of, the owner called it a 1949 Bentley Estate.

Too bad I had the kids in the car, else I would have gotten out and asked him all sorts of questions about it.

Just $40k, eh? I figured it was a six figure car.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Korean it is. Kia Visto, a rebadged Hyundai Atos.

This is a British woody remember, not an American woody.

A textbook case of where rarity does not equal value.

Also anything built on the clunky Mark VI chassis is bound to be an awkward looking car.

I suppose a pristine drophead coupe built on a Mark VI by a noted coachbuilder might....might...break 6 figures. But this oddity....no way...it's more of a "I have what you don't have" kind of thing rather than a car that commands any great respect in Bentley circles (it doesn't).

    Hyundai Genesis ?

Is that an Opel logo? I do not recognize the car.

Lexus is doing intakes that look like those on the lower front bumper, though.

China Strikes Again! It's a Ssangyong Wz

According to this SSangyong is based in the ROK, not the Peoples Republic of China. ;)

Ssangyong is Korean, but they're owned by SAIC (Shanghai Auto something-or-other).

Toyopet, by Toyota, late 50's (1957?) the forerunner (no pun intended) to the Corona, then the Camry

Mitsubishi Triton. Despite the styling, it is a conventional compact pickup.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Thanks - now the $64k question would be who made the canopy. Usually truck caps aren't an OEM item, but that one is pretty curvy for an aftermarket effort.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    ZOIKS!

Now that is a whole new level of ugly.

Looks like someone drew a grossly exaggerated sketch of a Tundra, then let it melt in the sun.

Yep, it's a Toyopet, the only 'Yoda that was unsuccessful in the US, unless you count this one>image

The echo was unsucessful as well along with the original T100.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,676
Yep, it's a Paseo ca. early 90s. And you're correct Rover, neither the Echo nor the T-100 was successful, even Toyota can bomb now & then.

That was the 2nd gen Paseo, too. They had an earlier model.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 269,362
I'm not sure there was a true 2nd Gen... I think just a bumper, trim refresh. (which that one has)

    So.. prove me wrong.. lol..

Just curious - what makes it a 12 instead of a 6? This is one of my favorite Jags.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
This is one of my favorite Jags.

You are alone in the wilderness on that one :P

I believe it is the only historical instance of a hardtop coupe not being worth one penny more than a sedan version of the same car. That is very curious, and really only explained by a lack of interest from collectors.
