Judging from the basher-bumpers, the Dasher must be a post-73. I believe they went to quad-headlights about that time.

That grand prix is certainly a smooth design. As a fan of simplicity, I hate to say this, but it's almost too plain.

Not IMHO, Billy Mitchell's GM Stylists were on a roll in 1964, the GP, like the Riviera and the GTO were among the best American designs ever offered.

Good morning - sorry I've been away, but actually while I was gone I went to the national kit car show so the above has some relevance although I must admit that the various old kits produced in the backyars of Britatin are a confusing bunch ...

I think the main car is a Fairthorpe Electron Minor - age probably early sixties, but they made this from about 1958 -70 and as with most limited productions, no two are exactly alike.

In the background, the green car with roundel on the door is either a Warwick or a Peerless,
the red car next to it is a mystery, as I don,t recognise it on this lousy monitor (at work), but the other red car obscured by the main subject is a Rochdale Olympic, the Alfa look-alike green roadster is, I think an RGS-Atlanta, but I would have to look it up in a book to be sure, while I am fairly certain that the cycle-winged green car on the right is a Dellow, which is quite a respectable sportscar with a good following in Britain, mainly used for trials work (off-road rallying, really).
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,237
Second thoughts... The cycle winged green car may not be a Dellow, in which case it may be a Buckler...

Well you could've fooled me :confuse: . I've never even heard of a Buckler or for that matter an RGS Atlanta. In fact I'd have sworn the light green car was an Alfa 2000 or 2600.

I think the red car behind the Warwick/Peerless is a 70s era Porsche 911 with the black center Fuchs five spoke wheels.

    About a '76 Civic.

Nope that's a second-gen Civic ('79-'83), artwork by Ed "Big Daddy" Roth the creator of Rat-Fink>

Are you sure? Could be, but the side marker lights on the 2nd gen seem a little different

    image

That said, I remember how similar the 2nd gen was, just a bit bigger all around.
Edit: Actually, if it's a 1979, we're both right. Seems like 2nd gen started in 1980.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,676
Actually no I'm not sure but the car in the photo seems to have the slightly more squared off styling of the Gen 2 cars, and it lacks the hood vents normally seen on Gen I cars>

    image

FWIW this Honda fan site lists 1979 as the intro date for the GenII Civic. IIRC it wasn't intro'ed in the USA until 1980 so maybe that's the confusion there. ;)

The Civic with the graffiti is a first gen Civic. More rounder than the second gen, and you can tell especially by the position of the rear tailights, the second gen Civic's tailights are more neatly integrated into the body.

The grille makes the car seem like a second gen Civic, which it's not.

The one on the right is a Lancia Stratos
  • karsickkarsick Member Posts: 312
    De-lurking here:

The other Lancia models are the early 80's Monte Carlo 037 (a grpB rally car based on the Monte Carlo aka US Scorpion), and also the maroon Fulvia HF (with an "inline V4" similar to VW's VR6).

BTW - The Civic is a '78-'79. The clues are no front turn signals mounted on the bumper, updated red/orange taillights and 'four-hole' steel wheels.

I'm pretty sure that the generation split on US Civics happened with the 1981 model that came out in the Summer/Fall of 1980.. (with the '81 model being the 1st year of the new generation).

My girlfriend bought one... after much gnashing of teeth, etc...

I don't suppose I could convince you that yours is a later model. :P
  • karsickkarsick Member Posts: 312
....Guessing here by the, uh, "cohesive styling" that this is a Ssangyong (sp?) from Korea.

Regardless, I'm certain the design was penned by that famous Italian, Andrea Bocelli.

It resembles an Escalade with a nose-bob and then left in the dryer too long. :P

    Toyota Alphard, huh?

I do see some Avalon-esqe family looks.

Wikipedia has a write up on the Alphard. Very interesting, too.

It's a hybrid (I'm not a huge hybrid crusader, BTW), and has some VERY innovative features: 4wd using electric motors at the rear axle, a "distronic" system, 100V power outlets, etc.

Too bad the body is so offensive, though, at least to my eyes. :(
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Pretty much all JDM vans are tall and narrow which gives them really odd proportions.

The streets are tight so the only way to enlarge a vehicle is to give it height.

    Bentley Continental...nickname "Sleeping Beauty".

NICE NICE car....once it's rolling, you can do 100 mph all day long. Great cruiser. Everything a Rolls sedan is not.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,676
Yep, specifically a Bentley Continental Type R, ca. mid 1950s. These are said to be some of the finest cars ever to come out of Old Blighty and I agree they make contemporary Rollers look like tanks.

    B. They have spent a lot of time beneath hoods.

There's a third way for id'ing that '68 Dodge Charger engine, but it involves a bit of cheating. :shades:
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
I need to see the reverse angle but my first thought was a Mercury of some sort.

After reading the other posts I think yeah it is a 68 Charger and now after cheating I agree too.
