Are you in the market for a new or used vehicle and having difficulty finding something in your budget? Or are you finding yourself making trade-offs to find something you can afford (i.e. less cargo space, lower trim level). You're probably right, that the truck version of the G8 probably won't sell that well in V-8 form with the way gas prices are today. In its defense though, the thing is probably more versatile than the SSR was. That thing was basically just a trophy. Something to buy and show off the fact that you have money (or credit). It was pretty quick as I recall, and you'd look good in it with the top down. But as a truck, it was pretty useless.
At least the G8 ute should be about as useful for truck-type things as a 1987 El Camino. I'd guess it would also be more economical than the SSR was. I pulled up the fuel economy ratings, and the SSR is rated at 14/18 with the automatic. The V-8 G8 is 15/24. I guess though, it's possible that the ute version is beefed up, and not as economical. For example, a 1985 El Camino with the 305-4bbl/4-speed automatic is rated at 14/20, while a 1985 Monte Carlo with the same setup is rated at 15/22.
I've heard them called "quinhentos", which means Five Hundred, for the 500 kg payload.
That's 1100 lbs, not bad for something so small.
Did you drive the V-6 G8? If so, how was it? I'm trying to keep from having to buy anything else for awhile, and if I do, it'll probably be something sensible like a Civic or a 4-cyl Altima. But I have to admit, the G8 is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me! Haven't had a chance to drive one yet, though.
I thought 22 was pretty good when compared to the Vibe's combined mileage, which is about where I usually fall, was only 28. The sticker was about $26k pretty well loaded. I may have to at least drive one before I decide.

I'd say it dates back to '84 but the paint doesn't look like any I saw over here on this side of the pond.
I don't think that iteration ever made it to the US .. only sold here from '77 to '80 (?).
My dad had a friend who owned one ... orange (weren't they all?). Seemed like a neat little car.

Indeed they do. You're very observant, only the tiniest sliver of the headlight enclosure shows in the photo. :shades:

I'm sure Miki Biasion, Juha Kankkunen, Didier Auriol and Carlos Sainz are having a tough time swallowing the news that "their" beloved rally machine, the Delta, is now a fat, pale imposter.
Geez it's not as if the original Lancia Delta Integrale was a thing of beauty>
The last good-looking championship Rally car was another Lancia, the awesome Stratos>

I'm not sure it is registered in Russia - the plate looks Romanian or possibly Bulgarian, but it could equally be former Yugoslav, or one of the ex-Soviet republics like Armenia, or Ukraine. I note the blue Moskvitch or IZH in the distance. If it is the latter, that would point to ex-Soviet area, as they didn't really export the IZH.

I think the early ones were called P1800s and the P was dropped around 1970(?).

Yup, now you said it, I remember having seen one around 1965. I was a teenager then and I watched the car in astonishment. She belonged to a local soccer player. Moreover, Roger Moore 'The Saint' enjoyed one of these Volvos.
