Sweet! That's a Corvette America! They covered that in one of the buff magazines back in the day (C&D, I believe) and there was even a 1:24 scale resin model of it (I had one). Please tell...where did you see this classic?

Proving once again that I am full of useless knowledge, the Datsun F10 was not introduced in the US until the 1976 model year, so this would have to be a 1976-78 F10. The Cherry was introduced in Japan in 1974, but it did not go on sale in the US (badged as the F10) until years later.

I'm guessing your VW rally car is based on the Jetta/Bora or Golf because it doesn't look tall enough to be a Touareg.

A participant in the Paris-Dakar Rallye which did not go to either this year, they held it in South America for security reasons. :confuse:

A big yes, indeed. Carlos Sainz, #303, was the winner of the Dakar Rally last edition, which ended two days ago.

South Sahara Desert in North Africa (Mauritania, Mali) is plenty of Al-Qaeda-related kidnapers nowadays. This makes the original African race very dangerous. (For instance, among many other people in last years, a group of Spaniards belonging to a N-GO were kidnapped two months ago, and there are they badly wounded.)

Haha, against the prevalent winds but shocking, isn't it? It is like 'bolids' with the wheels bended forward as seen in old pictures taken with slow cameras. :surprise:

I really hadn't thought of it that way...that is one powerful turbodiesel engine! The head wind is so strong that the tree is blown horizontal yet the Touareg is speeding by! The decision is made...my next vehicle will be a VW diesel!!!!

Mostly I think you're right but the number 1 car on the right looks like a Tri-Chevy to me, it has the type of wraparound windshield the GM's had from '55-'58.

#2 is definitely a Bel Air, you can read the lettering on the fender.

#3 Again you can see the designator on the fender for a Fairlane 500

#7 Is a '49-'51 Mercury or Lincoln, just to the left of it I can make out the tail of a red
'53-'55 Corvette.

FYI the still is from Where The Boys Are (1962).

Yeah I think #1 is a 56 Chevy.

I think #5 is a 52-54 Ford.

I agree #7 is probably a 49-51 Mercury.

Maybe not, there's something about the rear windshield that sez '53-'54 MoPar to me but I guess it could be a Ford

What about car # -1 (third one on the right)?

What an oddball! A 1960 Ford Falcon with a weird grill known in Canada as the Mercury-Meteor 'Frontenac'.

That's correct except that in looking at the brochure there is no mention whatever of "Mercury" or "Meteor", as if the Frontenac was a make rather than a model.

There is a lot of adspeak about how "Canadian" the car is and there are maple leafs sprinkled all through the copy. The last page of the brochure references the
Ford Motor Company of Canada Limited.

Anyone know if this sucker sold well in Canada despite it's fugly grillework?

Apparently it did sell rather well (although I went to college on the Niagara Frontier and I don't remember seeing any at all either in Ontario or this side of the border).

From Wikipedia:
In 1960 Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited introduced the Frontenac in order to give Mercury-Meteor dealers a compact to sell. Produced for the 1960 model year only, the Frontenac was essentially a 1960 Ford Falcon with its own unique grille, tail lights and external trim including red maple leaf insignias. Despite strong sales (5% of Ford's total Canadian output), the Frontenac was discontinued and replaced by the Mercury Comet for 1961.

White car is a Mercedes-Benz 450SL. The police car is a 1979 Dodge Monaco. The red car parked by the Mercedes is a 1979-1982 Ford LTD or LTD Crown Victoria.

On the left side appears to be a 1962-64 Corvair Monza, mid-late 70s Camaro, 1966 T-Bird, yellow VW Bug.

If I'm remembering this correctly, it's Gomer's fault. He parked Sgt. Carter's Dodge directly beneath an iron wrecking ball.

Sgt. Carter was very particular about his car. I think the construction company wound up buying him a new 1966 Coronet to replace it.

Unless I'm remembering a different red Dodge from a different show. . .

Correct, it's Sgt. Carter's 1960 Dodge. It wasn't the only Dodge Sgt. Carter owned that Pvt Pyle wrecked. He rear-ended a truck with Carter's 1955 Dodge when the brakes failed.

On the same side as the SL, I also see a ca. 77 Celica fastback, an 80-82 T-Bird, what looks like a K-car wagon, and a ca. 80 Celica fastback. At far left looks like an early 70s Econoline, too.

Not to nitpik, but I believe the white T-Bird is a 1965 Landau. (The '66 had the ugly roofline with the rear side widow removed).

A friend of mine has asked me to identify two cars appearing in family photos that she has. Both are pre-1935 which is outside my area of expertise (so to speak).
Perhaps some of you old car mavens can figure out what they might be.

Here's the first>

I'm guessing this car with it's crude top and wooden spoke wheels is pre-1925. The long nose denotes a sizeable engine (@ least a six?) so possibly a luxury make of which there were dozens back then.

and the other>

I'd say this car is ca.1928-31. There's something about the shape of the windows
that reminds me of a Hudson/Essex/Terraplane.

It's nearly impossible to tell without seeing the grille or headlights, isn't it? :confuse:

Those are really tough.

First car is a middle class car maybe 1919-22 or so, the more flush cowl narrows it down. Kind of reminds me of a period Buick.

I agree with your dates on the second car, but couldn't say what it is. It is also a middle class car. Hub script looks ornate, like an Olds. The cars in that old ad both have front suicide doors, while the old image does not. That could be a clue. The AACA "what is it" experts would know these in a few seconds.

Yeah the top one does not strike me as a luxury car. I think you are right, about 1918-1922, phaeton style.

Buick is a real good guess.

Oh, that bottom one IS a 1929 Buick. I can tell by the "starburst" hubcaps. They are the same as my 1929 Buick. The top one is definitely early to mid twenties, but not sure of the make.

I bet you're right.

When I saw the arched tops of the windows on the newer car, I thought "pregnant Buick", but I didn't have anything else to go on.

I think my instinct on the first car is right, especially if that second car is a Buick. Buick had a very good rep as a solid slightly above middle class car in the 20s...so it had some brand loyalty no doubt.
