    I'm pretty sure its the last hurrah of the old Lark chassis, might be a 63 too. I always liked the Hawks, especially the 62-64 Hawk GT.

    actually, the fornt end (especially the lights) greatly resembles a Volvo P1800

    So, I will guess a 1-off 1800 convertible!

    Well the grille looks Maserati-ish so I'll say it's a Maserati of some sorts, and I'll add in that it might be a highly detailed model car too. :confuse:

    Actually it's the REVISED version of the Rolls-Royce Phantom knockoff. It's called the Geely Emgrand GE. Rolls-Royce raised a stink about how closely the original GE resembled the Phantom, so Geely was forced to change the car.

    It most certainly is a Maser, perhaps the most beautiful street model they ever made,
    and from the classic era when they dominated F1 racing. It's a 1956 Maserati A6GS Spyder by Frua

    Before F1 Monaco race qualifications this afternoon, I was watching a TV documentary on Lamborghini factory in SantAgata Bolognese and heard the mechanic that was putting the trunk door on a Lamborghini Murcielago SV saying: "whoever wants trunk space better buys a Bentley!"

    Yup it's a '65 Catalina/421, I'm unsure if the "2+2" designator was applied to convertibles.

    You have to love the vicissitudes of Alfa nomenclature which are so dense that even
    Shifty gets em wrong. Sorry old boy, the Duetto name was dropped after 1968. Take another crack at it.

    Oh yeah, that's right. They decided to call them 1750 Spider Roundtails in 68-69. Some list the '68 a Duetto as well. Basically the quibble is over which engine the car has in it...a 1600 is a Duetto and a 1750 is a Roundtail.

    This reminds me of the silly "1964 & 1/2 Mustang" nomenclature with a generator, as if it wasn't the same car once they put an alternator on it.

    And no, I don't know which one Dustin Hoffman drove :P

    The pictured car has the round tail and the side marker lights that were mandated for 1968 US models where it was known as the 1750 Spider Veloce ("Roundtail" was not an official name). The 1750 Spider Veloce replaced the 1600 Duetto Spider in 1967. The Spider featured in The Graduate (released in '67 but likely filmed in 1966) was a '66 Duetto .

    The square tail was introduced in '69 and the 2000 Spider Veloce replaced the 1750 in 1971.

    I can claim no particular expertise in this utterly confusing nomenclature, my source is the invaluable Cars From Italy.com

    It's interesting that one sees a sudden drop in value once the Kammback "squaretail" came out.

    Actually the name "roundtail" is certainly not official, but now appears in most price guides and even history books as the most popular descriptive for the post-Duetto 1750.

    I still call them ALL Duettos and so do most Alfa people and I will never stop doing that. :P. After all, the name Duetto came out of a contest---it wasn't an official factory name either (at first).

    Why are there vent slats in the trunk lid of all those Vegas? It's not like it had a rear engine or anything.

    Was it functional? Decorative?

    The purpose of the slats was "flow-through ventilation." Didn't work too well, IIRC.

    I think those were just air escape vents, so functional. Can't quite tell if those are hatchbacks or not (I think there was a hatch in this style too, but it has been a long time since I saw one in person!)

    Yep, those are the hatchbacks. Look like '72ish, with the small bumpers. Friend had one, and for 2 years he actually had no problems...one in a million, I guess!

    The '71 Impala also had those 'vents' for flow-through ventilation. There was a patch of foam rubber on the inside to "keep it waterproof"!! I guess it didn't work too well or was just considered superfluous since the '72 impala did not have them.

    Yes, those are all hatchbacks.

    Here's a notchback ("Vega Sedan") alongside the hatchback. Note the subtle difference in the roofline.
