Well, I guess we need to send the domestics through Taco Bell training because it's obvious they ain't doing it.

Like you said, that negotiating session for the final sale kept you on the edge of your seat. I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen a better one.

    Hey GP,

Where do I pick up my Altima 3.5 Coupe?

Black on black, CVT, Premium, Tech, VDC, Mats, kickplates, please

For a while there, I thought I was going to have to find a home for a Versa :surprise:

That is what I have been waiting for... I was starting to think people felt bad for and didn't want to take any shots at me...

I can appreciate a good shot every once in a while. I think this business has programmed me to expect it. ;)

How does Saturday sound for delivery I will even throw in a free "touch of class" Or as you call it " Mop & glo"

Consumer reports March 2008 issue picked the 2.5 S Altima as the best car in the $20,000-$25,000 category over Honda and Toyota.

    In the $25,000 - $30,000 They picked the 3.5 Altima .

These two picks were on the top of the list for that money.

In the $30,000 - $35000 category The G35 was top pick.

"...There has to be some more drama and detail...Any expletives, violence or nudity?..."

No not really, everyone kept their tempers down and their pants up. The only time there was any drama was when the owner came out as the closer. He told me that he could only do a dealer trade because they had stopped making the 2008 version of my car so there were none left from the factory. I told him that I knew that there was a 120 day supply of that vehicle so I was sure that there were a few left at the factory lot. Of course I checked and found out that he was lying. I supose I could have made a big scene but by that time I had decided that I didn't want to wait weeks for delivery, so I let him slide on that.

I didn't check for cannibalized parts but I did notice some shrunken heads hanging from the mirrors of the service loaners so maybe I should have. ;)

    "...What did you get..."

I got a Mitsu Eclipse GT. Like I said, a girls car. The girl I'm married to likes it so I guess it's OK.

"...I feel one salesperson made a mini..."

I guess it depends on his pay plan. I hope he doesn't depend on the back end gross because I couldn't see the value in what they were selling. I'll give him a perfect CSI even though his boss tried to slide some fast balls past me. He was above board all the way. I'm pretty sure there was enough gross on the front end to give him more than a mini but you never know. You guys seem to get screwed by the dealerships on a regular basis.

BTW, greanpea68 I want to thank you for the help you gave me on another board. In my opinion the Altima coupe is superior to the Eclipse in almost every performance category. Sadly, the end cost for the Altima would have been thousands more than the Eclipse. If I could have afforded it, I would have taken the Altima.

I had the Desk on Sunday, we work a skeleton crew so when it is my Sunday I pencil deals and do the F&I portion also.

So yesterday we are working a guy, well we didn't really work him, he told me what he was willing to give and not a penny more, I had a feeling he was serious, and he had offered $1100 profit on a used F150 so I took it. The negotiations lasted about 3 minutes.

The funny thing was that he had told me he had been trying to buy a used truck from the Prima Donna's (his words not mine) at the Toyota store for 3 days. He went on to tell me that he felt like he had stepped back into the 80's.

His salesperson told him that his manager wanted to talk to him, and he told this cat on the phone, and I quote "I don't want to talk to your Manager, if you are so inept at your job that you need your manager to close a cash deal with no trade then they need to fire you"

The only reason I found it funny was that the guy wasn't talking to me. :D

I was just joining these boards as you were getting out of the car business so our interactions were brief. I enjoyed your level-headed advice and it helped me when I went shopping. In my opinion, you made a mistake when you left the car biz. They need more salespeople like you.

As far as the T-shirt venture I have one that will sell real well. Print this: MY WIFE SAYS I NEVER LISTEN TO HER....AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I THINK SHE SAID.

My wife will be good for a gross.

It's just been crazy at work and i've been stressed coming home from a job i hate...so i haven't been myself. its nice though, because i've given my notice, and i can see the light at the end of the tunnel. hopefully, i can make something in the design world work! we shall see though!

thanks for the warm welcome back all! :-)

and moo - do you KNOW how many posts i've missed? its A LOT! I don't know that I'll ever get through them :P

old farmer, thanks for the kind words. i love cars, but i didnt like feeling like the bad guy everytime i took a customer. unfortunately, that's a stigma that car salespeople have to deal with, but it just got a little rough for me.

anyways, i always love reading the stories of wacky customers and salespeople alike...so bring 'em on!

You are so correct. In my 12 years in Human Resources, my wife came twice to my office. One time was to tell me that her mother had had a heart attack, and the other time was to pick me up to go to my surprise retirement party. Also, I never invited friends to drop by the office. I was too busy to entertain them.

My wife and I taught in the same high school for several years. We never saw each other during the school day. We even drove separate cars due to different schedules after school. Business is business and home is home. She does travel with me at times when I do consulting work. Even then, she goes to the mall or stays at the hotel while I do the seminars.

Same here. My wife dropped me off at the showroom back in 1999 on a Saturday morning. And the only reason she went in the showroom was to use the ladies room. She rarely calls at work unless it's something that needs immediate attention.

The stats are misleading. The way the media wrote is made it seem like Toyota sold 999,900 and recalled 1 million so every car they sold had a recall. Not true. I believe this was published in 2006

Ever had anyone ask about recalls while car shopping?

I have people ask me about them on used cars but not so much new. What some people will ask is if there are any reoccurring problems with a particular model.

Back in the late 90's or early 2000's I can't remember I got so tired of talking about front brakes on Windstars I could have puked.

It was when ever the EPA came out and said we could no longer use brake pads with asbestos in them. For some reason that first year the Windstar would eat brake pads like a fat man with a free Shoneys breakfast buffet coupon.

I was just poking fun at Mack. Everyone has recalls it comes with the business. Their is no way that so many companies can mass produce a product and not run into problems now and again.

For the most part everyone makes a good product these days, it is the only way you can survive. The consumer is to informed to try pass off anything but.

Yeah, but the Pats won't have a shot at 19-0 next year. I can't imagine seeing that again from any team. May be worth it just so we don't have to hear from Mercury Morris...

Really a great game. Two very evenly matched teams. With two and a half minutes left, either team could have won. The best team that day did. Had the Pat DBs intercepted any of the chances that they had, 19-0. But, "if" is a rather large word for having just two letters... And again, that Tyree catch: All World Super Bowl Highlight Reel.

For some reason that first year the Windstar would eat brake pads like a fat man with a free Shoneys breakfast buffet coupon.

Oh, do I have a tale about a fat man at a Shoney’s. No, make that huge and at least 6’- 4’’ too. This guy had to have come in on a flat bed, not sure how he got through the door (regular or sideways) and I’m serious.

When I lived in South Carolina in the mid 90’s we had a Shoney’s in our town (not the typical type found at an interstate exit) and it wasn’t bad; almost like a real restaurant. Anyway, I’m going through the breakfast buffet and as I’m about to pick up a sausage link this beast behind me reaches in at the same time and bumps my tongs. He says, “I had my eye on that link, are you sure you want that one”? :surprise: I’m thinking to myself, ‘all those SOB’s look the same to me, what the hell could be so special about that one’? :confuse: Since I ain’t going to mess with him I said, “nah, the one next to it is ok by me”.

I’ve often wondered, where did he get those tongs since I had the ones that were in the sausage bin? Finally, I just reasoned that people his size must come in with their own.

    Now back on topic.

The consumer is to informed to try pass off anything but.

This particular discussion is lucky to get a post every 3 months, but all of a sudden it is booming. Kinda strange don't you think joel?

Not really, facts are always embellished in these circumstances, and when people start yelling lawyer I loose interest because it is out of my hands. When I try to help people and they start talking about lawyers I go from 100 to 0 interest real quick.

Maybe they can band together with people in the Chevy, Honda, Toyota, KIA, Subaru, Buick, and Nissan threads that are threatening to sue some one and they can all get a group discount on a lawyer.
  • epineyepiney Member Posts: 462
In reguards to the Ford "Turdstar", the people in the, "Ford Freestar Transmission Problems" discussion are massing for an all out assault on Ford. Seems their transmissions have been failing in high numbers and they are banding together to form a class action suit.

I had one of those 95.5 model year vans. In seven years of ownership, it really wasn't that bad. Other than oil changes, brakes, tires, tune ups, only had a water pump and exhaust fail. Lots of recalls though, including one for a head gasket. It could have been a lot worse given the reports and history of the vehicle. I considered myself lucky.

It was the most gutless 3.8L Duratech engine. Handy vehicle though, as I was doing a lot of home renovations at the time and it made many a trip to Home Depot and the dump.

We used to have a Shoney's at the Beach. It's gone now but the food was actually pretty good. I guess it had to be since it was in the ritzy part of town.

Anyway, since most of you know sales have been slow this year as compared to last year and the year before. We had a one hour lecture on the 09 Corolla and as it ended I headed out to the lot. The temp today was an unbelievable 74-76 degrees! It's supposed to hit 78 tomorrow. So as I look out the lot there one salesperson with a couple looking at a Camry and a couple walking by themselves. Hmm, looks like they need some assistance. I see them zig-zagging through the FJ Cruisers and then I lose the female. I walk to the front of the cruisers and I find her.
She's a good looking woman in her mid forties but built like Pam Anderson.
"Hi, I see you are interested in the FJ Cruiser." I tell her. "Yeah, I been looking at them for a while." she replies as she keeps looking inside the window of the Cruisers in the line. "Why is the black one on the end $33k and this one is $29k ?" she asks.
"It's probably the special edition or TRD edition." I reply as we walk to where the vehicle sits. It is a special TRD edition with all kinds of goofy stuff on it.
"It's too much." she says. "Let go back and look at the one you were at first." by this time her husband comes over and I introduce myself and I ask if they would like to take one for a test drive. "No, we really don't have much time." he replies. "Aw C'mon, it will only take 10-15 minutes." I respond." He looks over at his wife and asks "What do you think honey, you want to take it for a drive?" she looks at him and says "Alright." they get in the vehicle and I ask him for his driver's license. I notice it's a South Carolina license but say nothing. "I'll meet you in the front of the showroom in the meantime I just need to make a copy and get my dealer tag." They drive off and as I'm walking back I see one of my old customers looking at a new Camry. I stop by to say hello as she is having the one that I sold them 9 years ago serviced. She has the itch and I'm ready to scratch it. I tell her to give my best to her husband and I'll be waiting to see them again.
I get my tag and meet the SC couple back in front of the showroom. I put the tag on the vehicle and ask them if they want me to come along or if they want to go by themselves. "It doesn't matter, you want the keys to our car?" he asks and points to a Kia Sportage. "No that's ok. Are you familiar with the area?" I ask. "Yeah, I'm from here originally." the wife replies. With that they leave on the test drive.
They take their time and I begin to get a little worried as the KIA has VA plates, he has a South Carolina license and she sounds more like a North Carolina girl than a Virginia girl. About an hour later they are back from the test drive. I can see they went and did some shopping as the wife gets out of the FJ with a 12 pack of A&W root beer and some other things.
"So how did you like it?" I ask them. "Oh I love it! But we're probably going to buy it in South Carolina. I have a friend that sell cars." she replies. "Really, well do you know that you can actually get this vehicle for less if you buy it in Virginia." I tell her. "Why is that?" she asks. "That's because in SC you are in the dreaded Southeast Toyota district where they add whatever they want to the car and make up their own stickers. You've hear about TOYOGUARD, the extra mile package and things like that?" I ask her. "No, I didn't know they did that." she responds. "Ok, now that you know that are you ready to take it home?" I ask. "We have to go pick up my grandson and then we're are going to dinner. It's my husbands birthday." she responds. "Congratulations and Happy Birthday" I say to the husband. "This would make a great birthday present."
"Thank you for your time and if you would do me a favor and run some numbers and call me. Let me know what you'll give me for my car and what you can do on the FJ."
