Ended up with a 2007 Mercury Montego Premier instead of the Azera Limited w/Ultimate.
Mercury dealer honored our X-Plan discount (supplier pricing) and also added an additional $1,000 in incentives AND low financing. Sticker on the Montego was the same as the Azera, but the transaction price was actually much less by the time the price was discounted. The Mercury dealer was much more accommodating than the Hyundai dealer was being with the Azera. The Azera is a very nice vehicle, but the pricing was just too "iffy".
We also gained some things on the Mercury such as factory installed satellite radio, HID headlights, and reverse sensing system. The higher seating is also a good benefit. It is also an '07 instead of an '06, so we are getting a one year newer vehicle (on paper, anyway).
Thanks again!
NEW FOR 2007
Sideview mirrors with side marker indicators added to Ultimate Package
Enchanced electroluminescent cluster display standard on all Limited models
Steering wheel audio controls with seek up/down standard on all models
Black leather interior receives light gray contrasting stitching
I told the sales manager that if he had a customer who was contemplating an Azera and needed a nudge from a satisfied customer, I would be more than happy to oblige. I think the Azzy is a remarkable automobile and one of the best I have driven, with no disrespect to my Sonata LX.
I got a good deal (I think) on Advantage Plus 10 years/100k miles extended warranty for my new Azera 2006 - $995 + tax from Torrington Hyundai in Connecticut.
They did try to sell me a third-party warranty first (reasonably cheap as well, I might add), but I got the manufacturer's one.
The other reasonably good deals I got - from Florida - all dealers apparently MUST offer the same price as it is state-regulated there - $1118. Other deals were more expensive, and I made quite a few calls to various states and dealerships.
Price is fixed by state insurance department.
It was 9 months ago, so that I am not sure of the exact conversation. Of course, each dealer can move the fees and charges around any way they want to make a deal, even eating their commission on the extras.
This is my first post. I am about to purchase a new 06 Azera SE base model in black with tan interior for $370 / 72 months - $0 down payment - no trade in. Would you consider this a good deal? I already own an elantra so I get the $500 loyalty rebate in addition to the current $1000 rebate. Today I went to the Rick Case Hyundai at Weston, FL and they were almost willing to sell it to me after 2.5 hours of ridiculous offers and at last they got close to my offer but wanted $1000 down payment or $390 per month, I declined and left. Later on in the evening, I got a call from the sales mgr who left a msg saying that he was aware of what happened and that he'll take a look at my deal tomorrow and see what he can do for me and to call him back. Any advice? Am I being unreasonable? BTW, they ran my credit and said it was excellent. I really don't want to go over $370 per month.
Thank you in advance.
I am looking for an '07 Ltd Ult in the San Francisco Bay area but seems that few exist other than black. Anyone else had a buying experience in California, yet?
thanks,
Hank
I purchased my 2006 Azera before release date, and waited about 7-8 weeks before the company released them for delivery. To be the first guy on the block to have one, I paid almost MSRP. The dealers were actually asking almost $2500 over sticker. Now knowing how big the discounts can get after a short period of time, I would suggest waiting awhile.
I used the Edmunds car payment calculator to figure an approx. OTD price:
Price : $22,165
6% Tax: $1,330
Title, Registration, & Other Costs: $332 ( I am not sure if this would be enough)
Customer Cash Rebate: $1,500
OTD: $22,327
APR: 6%
Finance Term: 72 months
Monthlyt payment: $370.02
I haven't seen many replies from people who purchased a SE base model (mostly limited with premium or ultimate pckg). Is this a good deal, or you think it could be better?
Where was purchase made?
We only have one Hyundai dealership within an hours drive. The dealership is wonderful, and if you buy the car there, they will give you a loaner car off their lot for any work, service (even just an oil change if you don't want to wait). But, if you buy the car elswhere, they don't offer the loaner.
They have about 7 2006 models on the lot. How low do you think I should try to get them to go? I mean, how can they make any money and even stay in business if they all sell for the prices that it seems a lot of buyers on the forum are getting. Don't get me wrong, I certainly would like to get as low a price as possible, but how low is reasonable to expect? They've already given me the line that they are a small volume dealer, and they can't offer as low a price as the high volume dealers.
If I wait for the 2007's to come out, about what do you think they will sell for?
Thanks for any advice and input!
Noone is paying 30K. The white 2006 Ultimates in my area code (95111) are going for (according to Edmunds) 28,100 - 1000 rebate= 27,100. This certainly can be lower per reports from recent purchasers. If you want white, tell them you wont pay any more for it than the other cars. If they don't budge, C-YA! They want to sell these cars. Do your homework, name your price and don't give in. Good luck.
The best toys, such as nav system, smart key, lazar cruise control, backup sensors, MP3 plug in etc. are still not going to be offered.
I would not pay too much of a premiom for the 2007.
There are many great deals available on the 2006. Any dealer will be happy to service your car, so traveling further to make the best deal is to your financial advantage.
I bought an Azera in late July just like the one you are describing (Limited, Ultimate Package, Pearl White).
The MSRP sticker on the window was $30,285.
I paid $26,160.88 plus a dealer processing fee, state & local taxes, tags, etc. These additional fees vary from state to state, so they are not negotiable. Well, the processing fee might be negotiable, depends on how high it is. Some dealers try to gough in this processing fee area.
If you are already a Hyundai owner, I believe there is still an additional $500 rebate offered.
If I paid $26,160 in July, I know I can get a lower price today, maybe in the high $25,000 range, particularly if my dealer had 7 Azeras sitting on his lot.
Hope this gives you a comparison with some meaning.
#1: Don't assume to know what the dealer will need or take for selling an Azera. I would find out what the invoice is using Edmunds, less any rebates. That net amount would be what I would start with in trying to make a deal. The dealer will likely have a holdback of 2.5-3% based on the retail price of the vehicle. SO.....if he sold to you at "invoice" he still is making around $800-900. Anything above invoice just increases his profit.
If he has 7 2006 models on the lot, he should be very motivated to move them. He'll make you the invoice deal, not many buyers come through the door each day wanting to buy an Azera. It is a market niche that is new to Hyundai.
#2: Don't worry about the dealer making money and staying in business. He will not sell a car that he loses money on. He will tell you good-bye before he would sell the car. Remember, you buy a car every so many years, he sells them every day......he is much more experienced.
BTW, my wife and I purchased a Powder White Limited (w/o the Ultimate package) back in June for $24500 (after rebate and before tax and license.)
Good luck, the Azera is an awesome car, you will really like it.
I just purchased a new 2006 Azera SE base model Black with Tan for $20,428 OTD: $22,340 with floor mats, lock nuts, 3 free oil changes, and unlimited car wash.
Did I do OK?
I love it! My first luxury car!
Anyway, I'm disappointed that they are sticking so close to invoice. The best they've offered to me for a 2006 Azera and her a 2006 Elantra is 200 over invoice, which may still be good, but not good enough, to me. Not when the 07's are about to come out, they should deal more on the 06s.
They also say that if I wait for the 07s, there won't be the 1000 rebate, etc. and that the price is going up, etc.
I guess I'm getting the usual salesman lines, and it is making me tired!!!
Thanks again to all of you for your advice.
Christy
Get an internet price from another dealer or two that are reasonably close to you. I know, they're more than an hour away. If these dealers know that you're not real close, they'll probably give you good prices knowing that you'll have to go out of your way to buy from them. Show the best offer to your close by dealer and ask them to match it. If they will not, drive the extra distance to the other dealer and save the money.
You'll probably get the best internet price if you do everything by email. Also, doing a twofer with your mom will probably help. Good luck and let us know how you do.
So, at $5500 off an MSRP of 29,075 the selling price should be $23,575. That is a somewhat amazingly low price, but if they're advertising it, you should get it.
With an Invoice price of $26,205 less the $1000 rebate you shouldn't pay anymore than $25,205. They have at least $524 of "dealer holdback", so you could go down to $24,680.
Based on the ad the salesman showed you, I would make them explain to me in great detail what it is that makes them think they should only give you $4000 off rather than $5500. There could be some manufacturer-to-dealer cash that isn't public. That said, $4000 off an MSRP of $29075 for $25,075 is a good deal.
sidenote - If there is a sunroof wind deflector on the car, make them take it off and don't pay for it. There is absolutely no need for one and it ruins the look of the car - imo.
Also, if they have to put inspection stickers on cars in Kansas you might be able to tell how long they've had it. Here in Texas the dealer has to put the sticker on the car as soon as it comes in, so you can see what month the dealer got the car. Dealers are very motivated to move cars that have been on their lot for more that 90 days.

I am within a day or two of going to my local dealer and making an offer on an 06 Limited, with Ultimate package.
I remember reading in some posts that the dealer doesn't program lock/unlock feature automatically, and that the tires are often overinflated upon delivery. Etc...
I am just hoping for some last minute advice before I make the deal. I am going to ask for the lock/unlock feature and limp home features to be programmed, and I am also going to ask that the headlights be adjusted to a higher beam level, to maybe help with the "cutoff" problem I've read about.
Did most of you get the mud guards and floor mats from the dealer, or should I look around aftermarket?
I also want the windows tinted, I'm thinking of asking them to do that before I pick the car up too, if it isn't too expensive. Maybe I can get them to throw that in?
They've given me a price of 26,569 for any color other than white, and I think I want silver. I am going to offer them $26,000 and see if they will tint the windows.
Not sure if they will deal with me, they weren't too willing to deal with me and my mom on an Elantra last week (for her).
I've called around to other dealerships, and no one really has any better prices, it seems.
No one around here has any 07s, yet, and I doubt there will be a $1000 rebate on the 07s for awhile...what do ya'll think?
I'm sorry to make this so long, but I respect everyone's opinions here, and I appreciate your time and help.
Thank you,
Christy
You should wear a white blouse with a pocket when you go car shopping. Get a $100 bill from your bank. Fold it in half and put it in your pocket, looking in a mirror to make sure that the bill can be seen through the pocket material. This was like waving a flag to a bull----that salesperson knows that he can make a deal with you, as $100 down can close a deal.
This might be a better technique on used cars, but I've used it and the salesman knows you can buy with a downpayment.
To eliminate the buying hassle, call the Fleet manager on the phone before you go in. Ask him if he has an Azera in the color and with the equipment that you want in stock. If he does, tell him you are ready to buy and get his best price. Have the Edmunds price sheets printed out so you can compare as you are talking. Could be you can agree on a price over the phone and then just go in to meet him to finalize the deal. Fleet guys are paid on number of units, so they are less concerned with squeezing every nickel out of a deal.
I would avoid asking the dealer to tint the windows. They just call a service to come in anyway, then mark up what they paid. Find the best tint shop in your area and deal with them directly when you own the car.
Last point, if you are planning to finance the car: Try to have this set up already with your credit union or bank. If you buy from the fleet guy, the business manager will likely try to make more $$ through the other methods like financing.
Good luck.
Remember, if you can't make a deal that works for you on one car, there is always another coming down the pike. Don't let them play on your attachment to one particular car----if it's not a good deal, fid another dealer and car.
They have plenty of 2007's so I figure they need to sell those rather quickly. The cars also have some use and depreciation but not so sure how much I should pay. I like the limited with the full package.
Any suggestions?
The dealership in CO. and my friend are still in talk.
If anything goes wrong, I will post the whole story here on Sat.
My dealer (huffines Hyunday) have a couple of demos 2006 left. I wonder how much should I offer them for those. I tried to look at edmunds and the blue book to verify reasonable prices but the car seems to new to have history.

He advised me that there is such a glut of inventory in Florida of 06 Azera's, Hyundai has not released 07's to dealers.
Hyundai has cut way back on advertising and customer promotions.
He checked his computer for US dealers having 07's available for sale, and there are over 1000 presently, mostly in mid west and western states.
This will probably kill resale values for anyone planning to sell or trade.
I then proceeded to do a deal with the finance guy and I have taken a loan with no prepayment penalty. When I pay the loan off in full in the next week or two I will have to pay a little over $150 in minimal finance charges (15 days worth) and for that he dropped another $350 off the OTD price. So in the end my car was about $24,700 + TTL.
I came very close to catching a plane to Baltimore in order to buy the same car for $24,600 + TTL (taxes would be paid in Michigan not Maryland). The trip would have cost at least $150 in airfare, gas and tolls and it would have meant 9 or 10 hours of driving home. I am fairly sure that the best I could have done without a Fitzgerald reference deal would have been at the very least $1000 more than I paid.
Thanks Fitzgerald for being out there and offering highly competative prices. Thanks also to Edmunds Carspace and all the great posters for pointing me in the right direction.
