2013 and earlier Mazda CX-9 Prices Paid and Buying Experience
I just purchased a 2008 FWD Platinum Grand Touring for $26,800 + TTL ($29,350 OTD). Black interior with Lojack, Retractable Cargo Cover, Splash Guards, Cargo Net, and BSM. I was really insistent on Platinum Silver GT and very few options, so I couldn't negotiate more since I could not find another CX-9 in California that fit my specs. If you took any of the special financing incentives, the price would be higher by a few thousand dollars. Galpin Mazda, Van Nuys
From another dealer, I had a quote for a 2008 FWD Platinum w/GT Assist, Rear Ent system, wheel locks, no Lojack, It was $9500 off MSRP. It wasn't the right car for me, but it sold within 3 days of my initial quote. Tustin Mazda, OC
Even though the second option had more savings off of MSRP, I just thought the options were overpriced (even with discounting).
I am trying to get a 2009 Touring with moonroof/Bose package for at or under $25k. Has anybody received this deal or think it's possible? I am in the Dallas area. I was looking at used, but if the deal is right I could be persuaded to buy new.
I was originally looking for a 2008, but I think I'm too late in the game for that. There are only a few left in the area and they're all loaded, and unfortunately more than I'm wanting to pay for a vehicle, even with the discount. Thanks for the info.
Hello Purchased 2009 Grand Touring, AWD, 1MC moonroof/sirius package, 10 speaker bose, roof rack, remote start, leather, 20" wheels, all of the grand touring stuff. No toe package or DVD. MSRP $39,700 Sale price $32,760 before TTL. Hope it was a good deal! Sounds like it so far based on what I have read. Not many 08's left.
looking at buying or leasing a 2009 cx-9 Touring with leather. quoted right now at 29,019 which includes a 1K rebate. any suggestions. can lease for 1K down and 404 out the door for 36 months.
You may want to double-check to make sure that it's really an 09 ~ the dealer tried to pass an 08 as brand new without telling me that it was an 08 and I'm glad that I looked into it!
Hi, Thanks for the info. I was wondering the same thing, but the sticker is still on the window and it is for sure a 2009. Unless they forged the sticker! If they did that I might have a free car!
This deal included the $1k incentive, and they would not let me use the special APR financing, only the $1k. I had secured financing through Capital One so I was good there and did me no harm really.
i agree.. you should triple check that 2009 gt for that price since the 2009 gt has the towing package STANDARD... the 2008 gt towing package is an option!!!
This forum helped ALOT in negotiating our cx 9. Thanks to all who post! We just purchased an 08 CX 9 AWD Grand Touring with GT assist(nav) Moon roof/Bose package, Blind spot monitor and much more......MSRP 39785. We did alot of homework and went to several dealers.....our offers were rejected at first. Here's the deal we received 10900 off MSRP plus TTL. We traded our car in 2009 Honda Pilot EXL w nav with 146000 miles on it. Dealer gave us 6K. I thought that was fair price for her( she was very loved but well worn LOL) We are OTD at 25K even. We are so happy with such a beautiful car at a great price!! We drove several other --Lexus, Acura, Honda , Toyota ect....and this car impressed both my husband and I the most. I really thought I wanted a Lexus, but after driving the cx 9 there was no comparison! There are true deals out there--have to be persistent on what you want. Several of these deals left in Tampa. Our sales person was always great! Would definitely buy there again! Hope this helps someone else in there search. Good luck
Thanks Zoom4fun for the information. I am not having much luck getting that kind of deal in NC. Best I have is $9000 off if I take mazda financing else $8000 off a 36k 08 Touring. I will keep trying. Can you please tell me the name of he dealer? Thanks.
Just did pricing on 2009 CX-9 on Cardirect.com using a northeast zip code. For the three models, their "target prices" are always $2400 lower than the invoice. So there must be some secret large dealer incentives ongoing for the month. I liked CX-9 GT the most after test driving it against Highlander sport, Acura MDX, and a 2008 Audi Q7 3.6 over the weekend.
The 08 CX-9 GT FWD I got has Nav, DVD, blind monitoring system, satellite radio, wheel locks, roof racks and tow package. MSRP was $40505 and bought it for $30505 (plus tax, fees) which is exactly $10000 off. The buying experience was good, took about 10 minutes to make the deal done and about 40 minutes to sign the papers.
The sticker is still on the window and I have it to drive over the weekend. Would they have the stones to put a 2009 sticker on a 2008? I doubt they would get away with something like that.
I did not have to do a lot of negotiating. I just got lucky I suppose.
Run your VIN on any VIN decoder you can find on google. It should confirm whether yours is 2009 or 2008. VIN does not lie. Forging VIN is probably a federal offense!!!
I haven't checked online yet but I will. FWIW the VIN on the sticker matched the VIN on the car. When I picked it up I found the battery test ticket, and the dealer got it on the lot on 9/18/08. Maybe they were just tired of it sitting and decided to move it.
My final paperwork did not have bogus fees and junk, only $189 doc fee which one could argue is high. The F&I person really did rake me over the coals trying to get me to buy everything under the sun. I turned it all down though.
We are in Tampa FL. We shopped several dealers here with plenty of 08 inventory. The negotiating took alot of work and homework. They knew the other dealers had inventory, and the 3 in our area kept giving better prices. We (I think) were down to the bottom line with 2 dealers, and the color made our decision. Hubbie liked Black Cherry color. We closed deal on Sunday night and they came 1K off other dealer price if we signed "now" . We were very happy with price, car and dealership.(Also closest one to our home) The dealer we ended up purchasing with laughed at where we wanted to be the first time we went in. All negotiating took about 10 days and 4 dealers Couldn't be happier, and have to say so far it is the most luxurious car that we've ever owned. LOVE IT!! Hope this helps......are there several dealers in your area??? I did also use online quoting with several dealers to give us a starting point. Good luck! Hope you get your deal!! IT is an incredible car!
We purchased at Mazda of Wesley Chapel (Florida) our sales person was the best. I would definitely ask for Glen---he was non pressure, very professional and spent an hour with me yesterday showing me all the features and how to use. Thought this was awesome because our sale was complete and he still took time with me. Even helped me set up my bluetooth. We financed through Chase 3.9%APR. Thought the rate was good...... May be worth drive down???? Or can give comparison to local dealer in your area. think they had another Black Cherry one just like ours.....Also think there is big push to move the 08s CX 9 by end of the month. Maybe your dealers will come down. My advice take the time to go to several dealers if you can. They can see you are serious. Then negotiate toward the pricepoint you want over the phone(or close to it) Finally go in when they are close and ask for what you really want to seal deal. We saved an additional 1K that I didn't expect by doing this.
25K OTD pricing. This price included all fees and TTL. We also traded 03 Pilot w 146K miles that the dealer gave us 6K for. MSRP was 39785 on our cx 9. Feel like we got a great buy! Thrilled with the car!
I was quoted (without negotiation) Invoice - $3K (before TTL)on a 09 CX-9 GT. The salesman admitted that for the month there is a $3K manufacturer to dealer rebate for cash payment on the 09 CX-9 models, or $1K if combined with 0% APR for 36 months. Very tempting now...
That is correct $3K rebate if you dont take the special financing of 2.9% or below. They have a 5.75% rate which if you take the cash is just the same as 2.9% but you have a lower prinicipal (which could work to your advantage)
In my case, I received an extra $1k by closing the deal on Presidents day.
This is not the best deal I got. But I figure I rather calculating the percentage instead of money off. The MSRP of this car is about 41265, this is like 23.5% off. I got one dealer offer me better percentage, but he mentioned his car has "very slight hail on it". I decided not take it, no matter how cheap it is (Oh, well, unless another 5K off). I searched the whole 250 miles around, there are not many left (Midwest), especially I don't want black, so that limit a lot of choices. Also, this is the dealer that's just 40 minutes drive, compared to other dealer that give me similar offer are 3.5 hours away.
Another dealer, Scott, told me honestly he can't beat those price I got from other dealer, but he is very nice and remind me that when we ask for new car price, always ask if 1. If it is demo. 2. If it is factory (program) car. 3. If there is any title issued before. We all know there are some bad dealers just choose to not tell you something until you get there, if I have to drive 3 hours just to find out that, I will be more than angry.
This Ramsey dealer is no hassle to deal with, straight forward and they only charge about 60 for documentation fee, no other fees involved. Very pleasure buying experience.
I want to thank all of you posting here, as this help me a lot about how to negotiate, and what's within a good price range.
ps. Where can I go to purchase good cargo mat/car sear protector for my cx-9? Any suggestion?
Quick question: Does CX-9 invoices (shown on the Edmunds.com) include Dealer advertisement fee? I know Honda's factory invoices include it, Toyota doesn't but dealers always want to add on during negotiation. Never bought a new Mazda, not sure.
The invoice I saw did have a $200 fee for SF BayArea Mazda dealership on it. However, I don't think that invoice was from Mazda, though. Is there even an "official invoice" at all?
I went to two Mazda dealers in Connecticut. The "Invoices" they showed all included a fee of $440 as "County Assessment Fee" or something like it (I don't remember the exact name). When I questioned, they admitted it's advertisement fee. One said it's charged by Mazda and the money goes back to the manufacturer (which I don't believe), the other one said every Mazda dealer in the state charges it, which makes me think that those dealers might have "unionized" and setup this fee. If this is the case, it sounds like an anti-trust lawsuit is on the horizon. But what do I know. Connecticut is one of the most corrupted States in the country, thanks to our former governor Rowland. You want to be a proud resident of the state then just live with all these bs.
Been looking at these beauties for awhile - first started looking last August! Finally decided to try to find one on close out. Been tinkering with our local dealership ever since Valentine's Day. Finally came to terms this afternoon and will p/u on Saturday. Our Grand Touring had an internet price of $40,490 and we are going out the door with it at $25,500. This does include trading in our Mazda 6 Sport Wagon with 87K miles on it but I feel we still got a GREAT deal. Installed Options:
* All-Weather Floor Mats * Blind Spot Monitoring System * Bose Audio Package w/CENTERPOINT * Cargo Net * DVD Navigation System * Grand Touring Assistance Package * Heavy Duty Transmission Cooler * In-Dash 6-Disc CD Changer * Moonroof/Bose Audio Package * Power Open & Close Hatch * Power Sliding Glass Moonroof w/Interior Sunshade * Rearview Camera * Receiver & Cover * Towing Package * Wheel Locks * Wiring Harness
And they are throwing in the homelink mirror gizmo and a first aid kit! All in all I feel we got a GREAT deal. You just have to keep at it. Will be in 7th heaven come Saturday.
You have till your original manufacture's warranty expires (3 yr/36K miles) to decide whether you want/need to buy such ext warranty at all. A 7yr/100K should cost about $1500 to $1700. There are many different levels of coverage for different cost to you. See an ext warranty thread on CX9 started by me. Know this: by probability, one loses money on ext warranty unless you have a much less than average (reliability-wise) CX9. Besides, the ownership of 3 yrs should be able to give you a hint of how reliable the CX9 is before you decide on buying ext warranty. Make sure you buy ext warranty BEFORe your OW warranty expires (not 1-day after!) if you should decide to do so eventually.
We just bought a new 2008 CX-9 AWD GT. The internet build price was $38,802.
We paid $31,279 ($7,523 off MSRP) before receiving $1,300 for our 1996 Toyota 4Runner ($1,300 was KBB trade-in value with 165k miles). Our goal was to pay less than $30k with the trade-in, before 6% tax (now tax deductible).
We also purchased a set of Blizzak winter tires and 18" third party rims which the dealer sold us at their costs, about $220 less than we would have paid at Tire rack.
Located in the Philadelphia area....just took delivery of 2008 GT AWD with back-up camera, all weather mats, wheel locks, roof rails..... MSRP was $36.6k.....paid $28,050 +TTL. Fantastic car!

The "regional assessment" is Mazda's advertising fee that Mazda charges to the car. The first dealer was correct. It is charged to the dealer, and is not profit for the dealer. Edmunds.com's pricing structure clearly states this in their pricing section under "advertising fees"
I just purchased a 2008 CX9 GT, with RES, backup camera, wheel locks, retractable cargo cover, roof rails for 31k OTD. It was 28.3k before fees and TTL. It was 29k before TTL. Sticker was 38k. I really pushed them to the limit as I walked out two times before finally agreeing to the price. As you can see, there was 900 in fees. It was a consolidated fee that I tried to chip out, but could not do it. It was pre-printed and I was told it represented dealer fees/prep fees, etc. Though they should make SOME money off the deal, I wanted to cut that 900 in half. All and all, I was satisfied though.
My advice, aim for 10k off of MSRP and hold their feet to the fire. Ask for mats, cargo cover, cargo net, and everything else you can before signing your name on the dotted line. Ask for free fill-ups, details, and oil changes too.
We are totally sold on Mazda! I bought my first Mazda, an MPV, '02 model. It gave us 148,000 trouble free miles before I traded it for my CX-9. I have had it for 11 months and have yet to see another Copper Mica Red CX-9. Btw, I bought mine at Auffenberg Mazda in O'Fallon, Illinois. That, for a change, was a very pleasant experience. And their service department is top notch. Anyways. Now my wife drives an '05 Mazda 3, and we're very happy with our vehicle choices!
I am about 15 miles north of Philadelphia and I am in the market looking for AWD cx-9 touring. The quote I got was for 36k (out of the door). The dealer basically gave a break of 6k. The catch is I can use the special financing (0% apr for 36 months or 2.9% 60 months) or give 2k back and use the special apr.
So does it seem reasonable that they are giving 4k break from MSRP plus special financing? Also, do u think you could let me know where you bought ur cx-9 from.
Love the Mica Red. Navi system a little tricky - still have not figured that out. Garmin much easier. And they gave us 2009 manuals rather than 2008 so we're struggling till we get our real manuals for our car.
Also awaiting Satellite radio installation. Salesman told us the car was equipped with it and it was not - so we're pushing to the issue to get it put in.
We bought ours right outside of Cincinnati. Loved the huge discount

Are you referring to an 08 or 09. The person you were asking bought an 08. If it's for an 08, it is not a good deal at all.
If it's an 09, it may be ok. I would need more info to make the determination. Essentially, I need the involce. Actually, you can do it yourself. This is what you do. Use the edmunds TMV pricing /w options calculator and get the invoice for the vehicle. Now, the 09s have an unadvertised 3k dealer cash (incentive) if you do not get the special financing and 1k rebate + no payments for 90 days if you get the special financing. FYI, the holdback is about $660.
So what you do is take the invoice - incentive (3k or 1k) - holdback and that should be your best case scenario. Use that number as your starting point. I usually go below that, personally. The goal is to eat into the holdback as much as possible. In this financial enviornment, it can work.
Depending on how much you put down and your non-special financing, you'll need to decide what is more cost effective: special or regular apr.
Thanks for your quick response. Here is how I have summarized your info. Does it look right to you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------- from edmunds.com (2009 CX-9 AWD with options)
Hi viewmasterlady, I am in Illinois as well and looking for an 08 GT AWD. Can you please tell me what you paid and what were the options. Also if you financed and at what rate. Thanks
difference of $1074. --------------------------------------------------------------
I guess I have to keep looking around. Just in case if somebody is interested in my options
RSES w/Bose Audio/Sirius Package Touring Assistance Package Remote Engine Start Auto-Dimming Mirror w/Compass and Homelink Splash Guards Cargo Net
I wouldnt necessarily walk away from this deal, but you should try to chip into that 1k as much as you can. It is a pretty good deal. I guess the 1k is the hold back plus about $400 in profit, give or take a few hundred dollars. If you cut the 1k in half, you should think about pulling the trigger on the deal. At some point, we must all concede that they need to eat too.
I would seriously urge you to find an 08 though. You could get a GT with the same options for several thousands less. Remember, 08 won motortrend SUV of the year. Do an inventory search on cars.com with your zip and you may find a few.

And they threw in the homelink mirror gizmo and a first aid kit! Awaiting word on the Sat. Radio they said it had and doesn't.
Can you share what the price was you received before trade-in was (or, alternatively, what they gave you for your trade and the year of your Mazda6)?
It's hard to compute the actual price of the CX-9 you bought without it. Most folks will want to know what the actual discounted price was on the CX-9 not including any trade allowance. For example, you could have traded in a $10,000 car (with no loan on it), received a $5k discount on an '08 CX-9, and stated you got $15k off which isn't exactly correct.
Regardless, sounds like you have a great car and are pleased with it and that's what counts. i have an '08 CX-9 I bought in late Jan and couldn't be happier.
Both Mazda dealers at Milford and Thomaston showed their invoices having the regional assessment fees. Finally pull the trigger on a 09 CX-9 GT AWD, MSRP $37800, sold price $31900+TTL, nearly $6K off MSRP. Not bad. I didn't traded in my old car (2001 Accord), instead sold it myself for $1100 higher than the best dealer trade-in offer. Not bad either. Have been driving my new CX-9 for only a few days, so far so good.
Comments
Looks like Mazda has a $1000 cash back for financing through them but if you take 0% then you do not get $4250 (?) incentive discount.

What incentives/rebates did you use to get $7K off msrp. I am in the market for '09 and the best I can do right now is invoice + $1K incentive.
I would love to hear from you the details of your deal...thx
For everyone...what is the going rate for Sport and Touring for the 2009 in the Northeast Region.
thx
Thanks for the info. I was wondering the same thing, but the sticker is still on the window and it is for sure a 2009. Unless they forged the sticker! If they did that I might have a free car!
Even with the 1k incentive, I hope you realize they gave you $3k to $4k under invoice from what I could gather.
Please provide me tips how you got this deal or did they just handed you the deal you couldnt refuse without negotiating

I am in Houston but will be driving to Austin to pick the vehicle up. Seems like I got an ok deal considering it wasn't an option packed GT?

bestCase_2 = TMV - 1000 - 660 = 34821 (special apr)
with tax and the rest (assuming it is 2200) the OTD can possibly be around

bestCase_2 (OTD) = 37041 (special apr)
my dealer was giving

I am in Illinois as well and looking for an 08 GT AWD. Can you please tell me what you paid and what were the options.
Also if you financed and at what rate.
Thanks

We paid $25,500 cash out the door.
