This is, of course, based on my observations and nothing scientific. But I've been around long enough to read plenty of data.
If you have a dealer you trust, just ask them what the invoice price is. Right now the invoice price is pretty irrelevent though seeing as how demand is quite high for the CRV and most dealers can command MSRP for a while anyway.
I still havn't got my car, salesman called, I can wait another 5 to 10 days for new shipment or I can take the demo with 64 miles today. I choose to wait. My price is $500 over invoice.
Demand for the new V is lukewarm at this point while Honda has 11000 new Vs heading this way every month. I think smart shoppers can tell the saleman to call when he has the car at $200 over invoice. I think he will call in a week.
CR-V. Which ones look best?
Saw a new V with grill trim today. Ugliest thing I ever saw on a Honda. the new V already has a pointed facia. the grill trim makes it really really long.
The people that buy them are certainly not buying them because of the 'buzz' they are buying them because they like Honda and the CR-V.
I've stayed quiet for a while now reading all of the people that cant wait to say how bad Honda is doing...by the way, Honda sold 12,000 MORE cars in October 01 than they did in Oct00...hmmmmm...so Honda is hurting? If that is so, WHY do we sell cars? and at a profit?
Jerry
Do your dealership receive the CRVs a few per week or in one lump sum per month when the ship comes in ? I've seeing the CRV count at dealer I go to grow by 25 cars in one week.
I'm waiting for my car, the salesman promised early this week, now he says 5 to 10 more days. I have no idea when he will deliver.
Until you can point out who was doing the griping, I think you owe us all an apology.

That should make installation easy, compared to Honda fog lamp kit.
I know I am not in the minority on this interior color. It's mentioned repeatedly in this board as well as others. Its hard to believe this made it through production with out them realising its a bad color.
The posts that I was referring to are 3824 and 3826 from yesterday afternoon.
And sorry if I sound testy, but you made it seem as if the dealers are angels while we the customers are trying to rob them.
I went to a dealer last night who said they still hadn't gotten an OK from Honda to start selling the new CRVs even though they already fixed the seatbelt problem and had 3 in stock. They had no idea when they would start selling them. Another dealer around here said they are selling them fast. Kind of bizarre.
I really liked what I saw -- the same things I liked about the 1st generation but with better safety features and more interior room. The one thing that really disappointed me was the small amount of adjustment in the front seats...my fiancee is 6'4" and he had enough headroom and room under the steering wheel but had to keep his knees bent because the seat barely goes back at all. I don't understand why they couldn't have put in a longer track. My Saturn has less headroom and steering wheel room but a ton more seat track!!

which dealer did you go to? here in the south end of town, only elk grove honda had any of the '02's. mel rapton only had 2 as well. i'm thinking of heading to davis or vacaville, but was wondering if you knew where i may have some better luck. i'm thinking roseville and folsom will be pricey.
thanks, jeff
They were uncomfortable and obviously did not know what to do or say.
It is now the 20th and we have heard nothing from the dealer or Honda. I registered on the ownerlink and it says that there are no safety recalls on the 2002 CR-V (?). I checked with other dealers and they, also cannot deliver them nor test drive them.
Are they delivering them in some areas? We expected honda or the dealership to contact us.
I feel Honda should contact the few owners who actually drove one home before the recall with some explanation (and an offer of something). I paid cash for a car that I now do not have (after two days) and am paying insurance on. As well, it is not good adverstisement when my friends ask me about our new honda and we say--they took it back?
The Honda owners link on the honda site says "There are no safety recalls on 2002 CR-V's".
We liked it for the 85 miles we had it!
I fully agree with many of the contributors to this forum who feel it is outrageous that dealers are artificially and prematurely inflating a vehicle's price BEFORE the marketplace has had a chance to determine supply and demand. May those dealers see many lost sales to dealerships who understand that customer satisfaction is still the key to good business.
And by the way...my wife and I think our new CR-V is an amazing vehicle--roomy interior, fast and responsive on the road, powerful on hills, tight handling, great visibility. I believe this will prove to be one of Honda's benchmark vehicles. But please...we all must take a stand against greed. Don't pay more than MSRP! Do your research, shop around, and together we can keep the price where it should be.
Jeff
I have major problems with dealers who clumsily disguise their bump-up in the form of grossly overpriced and unwanted "options", such as rustproofing or paint protection. If they just say "$x dealer add-on", take it or leave it, at least they're being straightforward capitalists. I don't have to like it (hey; I'm probably going to buy a CR-V too!), but at least I can understand it. Would I ever pay more than MSRP? Probably not, but some people obviously want the vehicle enough to pay it... otherwise the dealers wouldn't charge it.
Like I said, if the model doesn't sell, they take a price hit. That's just the way these things go.

The '02 is better in every aspect...the only thing that would take a little time to get used to is the radio controls...they feel kind of far from reach (I'm 5 8"), but I guess I'm still used to my old car.
Hope you too start enjoying this outstanding vehicle.
I'm still sending my letter to Honda - they owe us something (those of us who bought cars and had them taken away), an explanation and apology at the very least. But the car is soooo cool - I am happy to be driving it again. My roof rack is on, my lo-jack is installed, my mud flaps are on...I;m ready to go!
By the way - I picked the green color - definitely a good fit for me. Kind of darker than I thought I would get (my last 2 cars were Saturns and both were champagne color, GREAT color for hiding dirt and dust) - but I am very happy with it.
Happy CRVing, everyone! I'm going to visit this site frequently to keep up to date on the latest. Thanks to everyone who responded to me.

I suspect that Honda isn't selling any bright "youthful" colors because they don't sell well enough. The Electron Blue color offered in 2000 didn't last long. Up here in NE I hardly ever see one.
Honda knows that they are going to sell every one of these for the first year without offering anything other than the basics. Later in the design's life, they will probably bring back an SE model and possibly more exciting colors.

Based on the installation instruction for the factory fog light, the fuse box is somewhere behind (and a little lower) between the steering and the center control (a/c, etc)). To get to the fuse box, it looks like you still have to take everything out (center control dash, etc). Is there another fuse box that are easier to get to? Can anybody who currently has the new CR-V check on that?
You would have to keep the diameter (height) of the tire about the same as they are now.
Many people confuse the wheel size being directly proportional to tire height. This is incorrect.
You can get 35" high tires that will fit on 15" rims. (of course not for the CRV). You can also get 24" high tires that will fit on a 16" rim.
Honda probably decided to go with a smaller tire to maintain efficiency and "peppyness" at the cost of a "sporty" & "tougher" appearance.
Thanks.
This from the Liberty board, roll over. And here I was wondering if I should gotten a Liberty. Felt more substantial and heavy duty on my test drive.

We weren't able to test drive b/c of the "stop sell" issued by Honda. However, got a good chance to look at the vehicle. My wife thought it looked so much bigger than the old CRV and was surprised to learn the actual increases in dimension were very modest. They've really managed to fill out the space a lot better IMHO, which gives it the bigger feel/look.
The sticker prices on the vehicles were about $1000 over the MSRP prices released by Honda Canada. For example, the sticker on the floor model EX was 30,550. Canadian driver posted that Honda Canada had announced MSRP at 29,550. Looks like a bit of price gouging on the part of the dealership. Hmmmm...
We're leaning towards getting the LX, and just adding keyless entry. The brochure says that this is an option on the LX, so that pretty much confirms it's like the previous model and just requires the new remotes to be programmed for the vehicle.
Delivery doesn't take place here until Dec. 1st. Yes, Canada sucks at times
Heh, heh... my trusted honda dealer even agreed that this was a scam. If you're worried, do what most people do: after your purchase, go buy a couple of cans of scotchguard fabric protector from the hardware store. Bring the cans home, and go crazy. Voila!!! Interior protection done the value way!
The point is, I don't see yellow cars on the lots, they're sold quickly, so I only see them on the streets.
On colours, I notice that we do not get either the white or green, but instead something called zircon blue metallic which is a light/medium blue.I haven't seen one of those yet but it comes with the black interior so I may be interested.
Likes...solid feeling,ABS standard on low end model, good cargo room, exterior colours!
Dislikes...no VARIABLE intermittent windshield wipers...almost a necessity on the wet coast.cannot fold down front pass seat to accommodate very long items, beige interior, fuel economy(yes I know its almost best in class but I still feel it should be a bit better).
I went to Mel Rapton where they had 3 2002 CRVs and they said they would be selling at MSRP. I called Autowest Honda in the Roseville automall and they said they were selling fast (and online are priced like $5K over MSRP!!!?) My stepdad talked to Vacaville and they also said they wouldn't go under MSRP. I haven't checked Carmichael Honda or Auburn Honda yet (I live in Antelope so those are closer to me)
Have you talked to Elk Grove Honda yet? I don't know if the ones who claim they won't go under MSRP will change their minds when you walk out with your check
Rebecca
To me, nothing's worse than feeling like you paid too much for a vehicle. I'd much rather have a salesman say "Hey, it's a popular vehicle, this is the price, no negotiating" than feeling like I got taken and paid too much.
I paid MSRP for the Odyssey in Nov. 99 when they first came out and it was a bargain compared to what they were going for a few weeks later.
I can't imagine any vehicle worth more than a Tercel/Civic HB not having variable...
And ofcourse, as expected, DCX spokesperson comes out in defense blaming it on aggressive driving.
http://www.autoweek.com/
who would think that a car that costs more than $25K cdn wouldn't have true variable intermittent wipers.
wow, any other major shortcomings??
Intermittent wipers are standard on the US models. I think what you are looking for are variable speed intermittent wipers. FWIW, the rear wiper also has an intermittent function. It swipes across several times, then settles into a pattern with a single swipe every 7-10 seconds.
If the Liberty rolled in a test, it would be the side impact test. I don't understand how DCX could blame it on aggressive driving, though. The car is stationary until the sled hits it. FWIW, the 1st gen CR-V flopped on its side during the side impact. It did not roll on its roof which is why they may be calling the Liberty's rollover a "first".
