Seems pretty consistent from front to back. Have not rotated them. The last time I took cr-v to dealer they upped the psi to 32 psi without me asking but I had them do a 4 wheel alignment. I lowered it to 28 and try to keep them at that.

    Wyoreb,

I would like to know which dealer selling the CRV for slightly under MSRP? I am tempting to get a 2003 LX CRV. I live in Westminster, Colorado.

Thank you in advance for the info.

Hello all. I've been reading this board for the past couple of weeks and have learned a great deal. Thanks to all. My new 2002 Silver CRV EX arrived last weeks. The 5 weeks I waited went by fairly quickly. I paid MSRP-$23,740. The dealer I bought it from offered an extended warranty 5yrs, 50K miles if I have the vehicles warranty service performed aty the dealer, which pretty much amounts to oil changes. They also offer 24hr roadside assisstance and free loaner cars. I was pleased with the entire buying experience.

As for the CRV, I really like it. I'm enjoying the peppy 4 cyl engine, 6 cd changer, and moonroof the most. I also like all the little cubbies to stash things - well engineered! I went the way of GG and traded in those factory tires for 5 225/70R15's with white raised letters. They look GREAT on the CRV, very little road noise and handle well. I have them aired at 29 psi at this time but may deflate a little more as time goes on. The tires are needed for beach cruising down the Cape-can't wait.

I have not had any of the issues that others have experienced. My VIN does start w/ a "J". No strange noises, no stalling, no streaks in the rear window, no problems whatsoever. I hope it stays this way. Yakima and Thule both now have rack systems for the 2002 CRV. That is my next addition to my CRV. I think I'm going w/ a basket. They're quite versatile.

Anyway, I'll keep you all informed as the mileage racks up on the CRV.

UptonJohn - Welcome to the forum! Upton, MA? If so, you're about 30 minutes away from me.

Juice - They've been flats, more than blowouts. No real danger.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Glad to hear that. I haven't had a flat - now that I think about it, ever. Knock on wood.

My wife gets them all the time. In fact for that exact reason I swapped her "donut" for a full size spare.

I had the misfortune of getting a flat last week.
Now I can see the advantages of the CR-V's full-size spare being on the back.

tomjerry - try tyrrell doyle in cheyenne...a little over an hour from you in westminster. they were by far the most reasonable price wise that i found, except for add on accessories, and i can get those on line. ask for richard heiser.

arkydog - agree with you on tire pressure. my crv came from the dealer with 38 psi, i lowered to ~ 33. the ride got marginally quieter, but i find the noise varies significantly depending on road surface. if you drop to 26, you almost certainly give up some mpg too.

muckyduck - let me know how you get your rocking seat issue resolved. (and how have other '02 owners had theirs resolved?). what was the vin range for this issue? i would like to get the TSB # if you get it. thanks. btw, i had a rattle noise above my drivers side visor as well, fiddled around in the headliner area, and it seems to have gone away.

haven't tried the rear wiper yet, but the picture sure tells the story...odd.

try Team Honda in Colo Springs. When I bought mine in Feb. They were selling $400 under msrp. No Hassle price, only added fee is $249 for dealer ad/handling yada yada. Relative to other honda dealers, a good place to buy hondas IMO.

Took my '02 EX in for some problems. Report from service department

Drivers sear rocks back and forth

    >Ordered parts
    >HON 81139-S3N-003 *LINK, FR.
    >HON 90502-S3N-013 BUSH A
    >HON 90503-S3N-003 *SPACER

Drivers side front window makes a scratching noise going up and down

    >Ordered part
    >HON 72250-S9A-A02 *REGULATOR, L.

Headliner squeaks just above the drivers side visor

    >Test drove w/advisor no noise heard at this time

Check front tires for abnormal wear

    >Normal wear at this time

    Questions -
For anyone that has had seat fixed - are these the parts that were replaced on your crv? My crv is outside the VIN range given for the TSB seat rocking issue.
Does anyone else have drivers side window problem?

Did not expect headliner to be fixed - does not happen all the time.
As for tires - I've never seen (or at least noticed) wear pattern on my other cars that I see on crv.

Steve: Subaru pulled that bunny ad! I heard it from an inside source. It may still appear in small markets until the order to cancel it get around to them.

Juice, yeah, I saw that. Much ado, etc. Let's hope the ad agency doesn't replace it with one about fox hunting, although the image of CR-V's and Foresters running through the woods jumping hedges is somewhat appealing :-)

I've been using Mobil-1 in an 01 V without problems. I plan on switching the 02 over to it at the 5k oil change or if after, whenever M-1 releases the 5w-20, which is supposedly soon. (Hopefully I'll be driving the vehicle by then.) I still have a hard time with 20 weight oil. Maybe I'll just run the 5w-30 I'm currently using in both.

does anyone know what the wattage of the 2002 crv ex/exl stereo is. I was just trying to compare my specs to the new pilot.
  • tomsrtomsr Member Posts: 325
What is the advantage of using Mobil 1? What little I know is it protects under extreme conditions which average people don't encounter.

East Coast CRV's come from Europe, specifically Great Britian. Check your VIN. If it begins with "S" it is British..if it begins with "J" then its Japanese.

The EX CRV's stereo is 120W (4x30) w/6 speakers...I think the Pilot EX is 160W?? (4x40) w/ 7 speakers (adds subwoofer), the LX is 120W I think w/4 speakers. The CRV has the advantage of the 6 CD Changer vs Single for Pilot. The 02 CRV EX stereo was rated one of the top 10 (Vehicles <$30K) by Edmunds.

Does anyone know if Canadians will be getting CRV's from the U.K.? My dealer didn't know. Do you folks trust the workers over there to produce a high quality product?

Thanks to Wyoreb and Seguy for the info. I will contact both dealerships for quote when the 2003 CRV is available.

My dad's '02 CR-V which he got just about a month ago came from Japan. He got it in Calgary, so I'm not sure if there's a difference between the East and West Coasts of Canada.

Have anyone try the Ziebart rust protection? I like to apply underbody rust coating before winter. Don't know which one is the best to prevent early rust. Any recommendation.

Has anyone noticed how soft the dash area is right above the passenger airbag? I have these lines that go across that you can see when there's a reflection in that area. Is this normal?

hey all - i have a 2002 honda cr-v EX with about 4500 miles on it - recently, about 500 miles ago, i noticed that now, every time when at idle or in reverse, there is noticeable vibration that can be felt in the steering wheel and even the seat(practically the whole front end of the car). This vibration was not felt when the car was brand new. Every time the car isput into neutral or park, the vibration within the car is gone. does anyone know what the cause could be?! and has anyone taken their cr-v to the deal for this problem and what were they told. Thanks to all in advance!

"East Coast CR-V's come from Europe" ... I'm in Southern New England and my 2002 silver EX 5-speed came from Japan - dealership kept me posted as it acquired its VIN, travelled by boat to the West Coast (Wash. state I think), by train to Albany and then by truck to me. Kind of like tracking a UPS package!

I love everything about it except the rear visibility - thought I'd get used to it but after a couple of weeks I still find it difficult to back out of parking spaces, parallel park, check my blind spot when changing lanes. It's a combination of the small high rear window, the privacy glass and the pillars between doors and windows. (Not the rear headrests - I've followed your suggestions on those!) Any suggestions? (No problems doing these things in any of our previous cars - Stanza wagon, '87 Camry, '98 Civic.)

One other question - the transmission (manual) isn't as "buttery" as our Civic, which slides into gear like silk. The CR-V sort of thunks in and out of gear, more like my son's '90 Camry. Is this usual, or is it my car? Should I have their service people drive it and see what they think? The clutch is fine. (I've been driving sticks - pretty much only sticks - for 30-something years, so this isn't inexperience...)

There's nothing in the manual about the foldaway sideview mirrors - do I just push them in? There's no release button or something? This is important to me because my son lives on a narrow one-way street in NYC and I'm afraid to park there when I visit - he's had his side-view destroyed by a passing truck.

don't waste your money.cars today have rust protection, by adding rust protection could void your warranty.. just try to keep your car clean, wash the hinges and bottom of doors. keeping these parts wax will help prevent rust.
  • h1vch1vc Member Posts: 295
"foldaway sideview mirrors - do I just push them in?" Thats how our ex's works.
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
Htowncr-v - Let the dealer take a look. I'm no engineer, but it sounds to me like a motor mount.

Quark - There are aftermarket mirrors which can be installed (rather inexpensively) to help improve rearward visibility.

Hey all, this pic was taken earlier today at the Withlacoochee State Forest in Fla. The Real Time 4WD system (and my camera) got a nice workout cuz conditions on the trails were rather muddy at times :) I was very impressed by the CR-V's capabilities. I'll post more pics later.

    hi all,

I'm about to buy a new CRV and have been asking around for price quotes. I got one that quoted a price at MSRP (which includes the destination charge) plus a "DEALER FEE of $499.00 ( This charge represents costs and profit to the dealer for items such as inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting vehicles, and preparing documents relating to the sale' )".

I was under the impression this is what the destination fee is meant for. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks
  • davisdogdavisdog Member Posts: 99
...he's trying to screw you over with a "dealer fee'..As far as inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting vehicles that's part of his job and he's already getting paid for that by Honda. The only legit charge is most dealers charge you a documetation Fee for submitting your paperwork to the state (title/license stuff)...Mine charged a fixed fee of $45 bucks and that's the only fee that he added on for the Dealership...Destination is a legit charge (Honda charges $460) which is on top of MSRP, although you can always negotiate that (I got my EX-Auto for $22300 + Govt fees...basically paid them MSRP and they picked up the destination fee.)

    ...Steve
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
IMHO, documentation fees are also added profit for the dealer. It's a convenience for them so they don't have to run down to the local tag office to register the vehicle, and that they can deliver a vehicle on the weekend.

I've had better luck negotiating an out the door price after doing my homework to determine what a reasonable price should be. The invoice is usually written up with a few "fees" but the bottom line is what I negotiated. On the '01 Accord I bought, the dealer charged the wrong amount for sales tax and had to eat the loss.

Hi folks -- I have a 2002 silver CR-V, and I am considering picking up a hard spare tire cover for it. On the Handa-Accessories site, there are 4 different hard spare tire covers -- the body colored one at $376, a black one at $85, a black one with a white "CR-V" on it for $74, and one that is painted dark gray for $86.80. My question is about the dark gray one -- it looks a bit greenish gray in the picture, and I was wondering if anyone has bought one, and whether or not it goes well with the black trim (and the silver color of my CR-V)? I have not been able to find one at a Canadian Honda dealership, so I cannot get to see one before buying it. I would hate to order one, go through the customs hassle, have it delivered, then have to send it back because it looks crummy. Any help would be appreciated.
  • bodydoublebodydouble Member Posts: 801
I didn't know Handa delivers to Canada?
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
I've seen the gray spare tire cover. It does not have a greenish tint to it, though I can understand why you'd think that. However, does not match the other gray plastics on the vehicle.

I am considering ordering one anyway. Then I can buy color-matched paint from Paintscratch.com. Slugline did something like this. I've been able to get enough paint and primer to do this job for about $70.00 (US dollars).
  • trilliumstevetrilliumsteve Member Posts: 35
Bodydouble -- you are right, they don't deliver to Canada. But I am cooking up a scheme to pick one up in the US while on holiday there in July. I'm going to Maine, and if I decide to get one, I'll see if I can get it delivered when I am there. Alternatively, I have found a couple of US-based on line dealers who will deliver to Canada -- however, I do not know if they carry the gray hard spare tire cover that I am interested in. Always complications!

Varmint -- do you think the painted plastic will hold up over time? How would you go about painting it to make sure it adhered well?
  • scnamescname Member Posts: 296
I test painted a small patch on the bumper with Duplicolor brush on in January. Only surface prep I did was wipe with the palm of my hand.

Adhesion is very good after 6 month, doesn't come off when I rub my finger on it.
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
Paintscratch sells paint with an additive for increased flexibility. Both the primer and paint are designed to be used on hard plastics. I know that Slugline has had his for a few years, but I don't know what he used to do the job. You can probably contact him through his website if he doesn't post here soon.

Does anyone know if Honda will offer any new color choices on the CRV for 2003? As usual Honda offers a only a few basic choices... too boring and tired for my taste. The mohave mist is the only somewhat interesting color.
Honda definately needs to look at Nissan and see the nicer colors they offer on their cars and trucks. The CRV needs to be offered in a light metallic green (not clover green from a Civic) and a silver aqua-blue or a copper color.
I know.... this is Honda wer'e talking about... you get what you get.
  • varmintvarmint Member Posts: 6,326
Honda has offered more exciting colors in the past, but none of them have sold well. Electron Blue was offered back in 2000, but sold poorly and they cancelled it. This doesn't mean that they won't do it again. I just wouldn't hold my breath. :-(

There's also the fact that trendy colors like lemon yellow do nothing for resale value. Fashion trends change and make it hard to sell those vehicles.
  • sluglineslugline Member Posts: 391
To set the record straight, while Electron Blue Pearl was probably not the most popular color, Honda did not cancel it immediately and carried it over into the 2001 model year. When the 2002 model came out, it seems as if they wanted to shift back to a more subdued palette, like they did with the 1997 launch. So along with Electron Blue, Honda declined to bring back vibrant hues like Milano Red and Naples Gold. Surprisingly, the Taffeta White is the most eye-catching color offered for the '02 model IMO.

As the model years progress, I would expect a repeat of past history, where head-turning shades are re-introduced to the lineup to stir up interest. I'd be curious to see what a yellow one would look like, but I think it's likely that Honda would decide that it's a fad that has passed.

Just picked up my Black EX Auto. Love this car! Much quaeter and smoother then my Nissan Altima. But one thing I'm starting to notice: the sound that a lot of people describe from somewhere between steering column and brakes, but unlike others I hear it when the car is about to stop: I apply to the breaks, car is slowing down and in the last moment I hear a short "bzz" I happen only when I 'm driving from moderate and + speed (25+mph) in lesser speed I don't hear that sound.
I didn't go to the dealer yet, so I don't know if this a common problem or it just my car. Does anybody have similar thing?
    Thanks
  • freeberfreeber Member Posts: 116
Honda has done a light metallic green on the Accord years ago. As Varmint said, trendy colors hurt resale value also. While you may like to see a V' in yellow, most people (not all) wouldn't. That makes it a nightmare for a dealer to put on a lot in hopes that somebody will buy it. I've seen a thumbnail of an orange metallic (obviously not a Honda color) that looks sweeeeet, but I'd hate to be the guy trying to sell it.
  • muckyduckmuckyduck Member Posts: 219
is probably the reverse lockout noise. When in gear, the transmission is locked so that you cannot accidently move to reverse. When you stop there is a click sound, which then allows you to switch to reverse if needed. You should also hear the click when accelerating (about 3-5 mph) which indicates the reverse lockout is active.

I bought one of those marked 86.80 because it is styled like the same cover that came color coded on the 2001 SE models for 376.01. I took it to a local body shop that specializes in Honda repairs and had it painted with the factory paint (Chianti Red) for 75.00. It looks great!!
