I want to hear what you think of this concern. Any thoughts are highly appreciated!
James
But I don't think the CR-V looks anything like a hearse.
I bought 2002-CRV-LX 3 weeks ago. The manual says that for the first oil change wait till 10,000 miles.
I was told that , during break-in period , lot of tiny metal parts gets chipped away and it is not good for engine to run with such particles and it is better to change the oil after first 1000 miles.
Now I am confused due to Honda's recommendation. What is the advantage of changing oil at 10,000 instead of 1000 miles ? If I change the oil at 1000 miles itself is there any harm ?
Thanks,
Ramki
I'm one to follow what the manual says - after all Honda designed the thing - they know what is best for it.
My Dad plans on changing his at 5K in his 02 CRV.
Varmint: Yes, Upton Mass. Howdy neighbor.
For the gas mileage guys: Average mpg 24.1mpg and 23 mpg for first two tankfulls with mixed highway and city driving.
Do you like 02 CR-V look? Especially its flat roof line and big rear part, kind of wierd design, I think.
Anyway, what is your general opinion for this car?
Thanks,
James
UptonJohn - Sorry neighbor. Can't help you with the roof rack. I have the OEM one on my "99 model.
If you're ever near Mansfield or romping up and down route 95, keep an eye of for a Silver '99 with custom red tail lights in the back and a skidplate up front.
Hv1c - Yeah, I like the look of the Tribute, too. IMHO, that's the best looking of the bunch.
I like its roomy, but for the bike, we can always put it in the roof.
I also think it would've been neat if, instead of having the spare on the back, Honda could've lengthened the back to match where the current rear spare protrudes. And then move the spare into the cargo area, like that of a passenger sedan and throw away that picnic table

I agree though, I'd rather have the tire inside and also have a real bumper in the back.
Frenchiee - Yes, they should have specs for your car. It wouldn't hurt to remind them, though.
h1vc - Correct. The length and width of the cargo area are big enough for a full diameter spare tire. It's the depth that would be a problem. The Fullmark (JDM model) without the rear-mounted spare has a space-saver donut. This is apparently thin enough to fit under the picnic table, but is still a full-diameter tire.
I noticed you changed the color of this CR-V. Are you using Photoshop or others related program?
James
Of course looks are completely subjective. I prefer the front end of the old model, FWIW.
Nice photochop.

It could also be that the slower one was heavier, did it have more equipment? Like a roof rack? Was the A/C on?
Other possibilities: fouled plugs or a lack of maintenance on the "slow" one. Maybe even non-OE wheels and tires.
Still, since you felt a difference, buy the 2000! Sounds like that other one was built on a Friday at 5pm. ;-)

Is the Fullmark only a 1st Gen. Vehicle? Can any of those toys be ordered from a foreign dealer and installed in the US versions?
It's essentially a CR-V without the spare being mounted on the rear. I think its selling strength is in the aesthetics, although it still employs the swing out tailgate instead of a lift up one.

Keep poking around, and you'll discover a bunch of Honda species we're likely to never see. Personally, I think something based on the Fullmark would slot in very nicely in the Acura lineup. (Is Land Rover having any trouble finding buyers for the Freelander?)

Cadillac's Night Vision is such a tease. They give you a targeting system, but withhold the armaments. <GRIN>
I have the Thule roof rack for my 2002 CR-V and am trying to find out info on installing: there was a post(#7533) stating the screws stripped installing this same rack- any advice on installing with the screws so they don't strip? Also, a picture I saw of this rack on the CR-V shows that the channel is open to elements where mounted. I'm concerned about water laying in here and causing rusting problems? Any feedback?
Also, on post #7916 about having part ordered to fix window scratching noise when power windows go up and down: What's part going to do to fix problem? Do you have any scratches on the window being fixed?
When cleaning my power windows the other day, I noticed verticle lines on all my windows, and when it wouldn't clean off figured it must be scratching in the windows. The tinting in the back ones looked scratched off. I've never had power windows before, so when I had car in for servicing a month ago I asked if they were to rub going up and down. I was told they needed silicone put some where, and they would do it. Not sure if they did it since it wasn't on invoice after having everything done. Thanks!

I have not noticed any scratches on windows. Will look more closely.
Thanks,
James
I haven't had any responses from this forum on it yet though.
FYI: I checked Kelly Blue on a 2001 with about the same options and it came with a 23,000 + retail value (that seems high) and a 20,200 trade-in value.

I think if you stayed in the ballpark of MSRP for the car without the aftermarket goodies, that would be a good place to start?
What are you considering as a replacement?
honda uses an additive sort of like a break in oil to that new oil and to leave in that long.
any advise would be helpful. thank you
The suggested oil change interval is 10K for normal conditions and 5K for severe conditions. According to Honda Ownerlink, your new CR-V is using a special oil and is recommended to keep it for the suggested interval. I think I am going to follow that. I have 5.5k so far. Since we have a relatively "cool" summer and have not had any 100F days yet, I am going to keep the oil until the weather gets hot.
thanks a ton!
