I have a 154 foot yacht and am only getting 6 gals per nautical mile. What is wrong with this picture? But my '00 Silverado E/C Short Bed, 5.3l, 3.73 rear, 4WD is getting between 11.5 and 18.0 (city to highway), and it doesn't matter since it is a big truck. FYI
Who can tell me how to get the $1000 Customer Loyalty Coupon that jamesk4 takes about in message #731? I have a '96 Suburban and just ordered a 2001 YXL, and could sure use the coupon.
I have 2000 suburban 4wd that started making a noise inside the cabin. The noise is a humming noise that comes from what I thought was an onstar speaker in the ceiling just above the drivers head. The noise is a buzzing sound. The service manager told me that this is a unit that measures outside and inside temps and that all suburbans make this noise. The noise didn't show up till 1 year and 15,000 miles. I told him I would haven ever bought a vehicle which such a sound. People on this board know more than people at dealerships in most cases! Has anyone else had this problem with their suburban?
I ordered a 1500 LT 4wk. It should arrive on Saturday. I was quoted a price for the vehicle 6 weeks ago. Of course it has now gone up by 800.00 The dealer quoted price increase as the reason. After reviewing the orginal offer he made, I discovered there are 2 prices listed by Edmunds for the 1SC LT Package and they differ by $200.00 - The description is exactly the same. My dealer used the low one for the quote and showed me a printout of the invoice listing the higher one - Anyone know the difference? Lastly his quote showed 0 for Advertising fee and the final invoice print out showed $424.00 fee. Is this legit. Should I pay it? Net a $800.00 increase from order quote. Advice??
Thanks to everyone for the responses on the cold air issue. I've got a new burb coming in this week 2500 8.1 LT 4x4 unfortunately built in Mexico. This is the second 2500 we've had with the big motor. I live in Western New York and I know all the 454's and 8.1's are built in the Tonawanda engine plant (about 50 miles away) and the axles and transfer cases are built by American Axle Corp. (also 50 miles away) so you try to support your local communities and workers and then GM sends everything to Mexico to have it assembled, that really ticks me off. Hopefully with these Buffalo winters we won't have to deal with the cold air problems you guys are experiencing. My brother has a 98 Tahoe with the cold air problem and it was built in the US. We have a 99 burb with no cold air problem built in Mexico. I'm so confused I don't know what to think. Thanks again for the responses I guess I've vented enough. Suburbansrule
rxprbh... Can't speak for the Sub, but I occasionally get a humming / small motor running kind of sound when I shut my '00 YukonXL off and sit in it for a few minutes with no radio on. It was driving me nuts.... I spoke with the service guy and he thought it might be small circulating motor that purged the cabin air after it was shut off to prevent any carbon monoxide poisoning. Doesn't do it all the time, and I rarely notice it now. My guess it is some kind of air purifier fan. Hope this helps...... Brad
My mom just got an '01 Sub, she has less than 2k miles and the sucker doesn't want to start in the morning or after it has been sitting for awhile. It has died twice while going down the road. She went to a dealership (the one closest to home) and since they couldn't duplicate the problem they kept her truck for two days and did nothing. Has anyone heard of problems like this? If so, is there a fix? Thanks, Tami
rxprbh: Not sure, but I believe the noise you are hearing is coming from the little grill (about a half-dollar in size) just above the driver's head in the Yukon/Subs. This grill has a small fan that circulates the cabin air past a temp. sensor to determine cabin air temp. I think the noise you are hearing is the "whirring" of the fan. Possibly the small fan is going bad and louder than normal as it begins to fail.
I ordered a new Suburban from the Janesville, Wisconsin plant only to discover that the one I'm about to receive came from Mexico. Does anyone have any good information on just where Suburbans are made and if indeed some are produced in Mexico how does the quality of manufacture compare with Wisconsin production. The two reasons apparent to me for locating a plant in Mexico are(1) to save labor costs, and (2) to avoid pollution controls. I'd appreciate comment.
Can anyone recommend a good source and style for molded splash guards ? Not having much luck as I recently bought a set from a local car parts store that are specifically for a 01 YXL without flares but with factory runningboards. The coverage seems minimal and they attach by simply drilling two sheet metal screws through the splash guard and fenderwell. I tried to go the dealer route and they indicated that since I have the runningboards I can't install splashguards - which I know to take as gospel because the dealership knows everthing about my GMC product Thanks !
I installed the Husky molded splashguards on my '01 Burb with running boards. They fit well and look nice. I ordered them from Cabelas for $29.95 per pair.
Instead of the Suburban I ordered from Janesville, Wisconsin, I'm being shipped one from Salao, Mexico. I would appreciate hearing from those of you with experience with Mexican Suburbans. I really hadn't intended to spend $43,000 on a Mexican car....In my opinion there are two reasons for an American company building a plant in Mexico - (1) They want to save money on labor, and (2) They want to avoid some of the pollution control measures in the U.S. I don't subscribe to either of those two reasons. What do you think and know for sure...???
Bob, Our new burb came in today. Our salesman was supposed to call us when it did. Drove by tonight on our way out to dinner and noticed the painted mirrors from the road and knew it was ours. Turned around to take a look and found that our LT came through with black flares, bodyside mouldings, and front bumper pad cover. I've got a complete detailed printout showing everything is supposed to be bodycolor so it will be interesting to see what they have to say tomorrow. I don't know what to tell you about the flare colors, it doesn't seem anybody knows whats going on. I'll let you know how I make out tomorrow. Suburbansrule
GM mailed them out, however, in leiu of a coupon you can take your title by the dealership and they will honor the $1000 discount. The only concern you will have to deal with is the fact that this offer may expire before your Burb comes in. It has to be on a vehicle in stock. I was told the experation date but it did not stick since mine is coming in this Friday, can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. A special order becomes a vehicle in stock when the delivery truck drives into the dealership.
Hey is there anybody else out there that has a 2000 Yukon XL that is using excessive oil? Ours has been tested for consumption and found it used a quart every 1400 miles. We have a letter from GM that states it is normal for that engine to use a quart every thousand miles. Am I the only one who thinks that is ridiculous!! If anyone has encountered this same problem lets get together and see what recourse we have.
Sorry, but I fail to see your point. The guy got a lemon, so what. People complain about lemons all the time. Our 2000 'burb is our 4th, preceded by an 82, 95, and 96 (my wife and I have both driven Suburbans the last three years), and I have yet to see any indications that the Suburbans asembled in Mexico are any worse in quality than the ones GM screws together in the US or Canada. Our '00 'burb was asembled in Mexico, and the fit, finish, and overall quality are excellent. Nothing is misaligned, the doors and body seams are straight, nothing is missing, and nothing has fallen off! I'm more aggravated by GM's American accountants who cheaped out on the third row reading light, and the dumb [non-permissible content removed] engineers who designed steering stops that dry out and make a terrible grinding noise when I pull into my driveway.
Its probably made better than something made in Detroit. You would be surpprised (as I was) to the level of dedication that the mexican workers have and they turn out quality product for less $. Many US manufacturers, including GM, Ford and MB make cars (or car parts) in Mexico.
My understanding is, is that your Mexican suburban would not be allowed in this country without all of the pollution controls. It will be just like you bought it in Wisconsin. If it was a grey market car, your dealer would not service or warranty it.

has anyone gotten the word on the next set of incentives for the Suburban starting with Chevy's new quarter beginning April 3rd?? via GMAC .. any 'scoop' appreciated.. looking to Lease a '01 Suburban 1500 or 2500 4wd LT for my wife.. darn lease program they are running now has a 9.3% interest rate with a 52% residual..need it to get the interest rate lower.. maybe 6 or 7% area to be worthwhile.. just can't see that 9.3% in this era of falling interest rates.. they lowered their finance buy interest rate a few weeks ago to 3.9% but only for the'buy' .. never changed the Lease rate.. I guess they just don't want any more leases to get burned with..
rhansen3 Re: msg# 732.. no coupon actually needed ..all you have to do is show the dealer proof of Suburban ownership.. also in a previous post someone posted that GM authorized crossover from the Chevy Tahoe/Suburban special incentive to the GMC Yukon/YukonXL.. the program is good from 3/1/01 thru 6/30/01 ALSO.. see the copy of my coupon in post # 693 you have to be the current owner of a Tahoe/Suburban not a Blazer, etc.. but as I said.. no coupon is needed.. just proof of ownership of a Tahoe.Suburban..
I live in the Myrtle Beach,SC area.. have been getting 16mpg around town in mixed driving.. over the road on trips down to Florida I get 17+mpg doing '5-10 mph over' on average on the interstate..I don't 'gun-it' ...no jackrabbit starts.. those days of my sports cars are long over..I need 'room now'... I have 38K miles on a '99 Suburban 1500LT 4wd 5.3L..actually gotten better the more miles I've put on it..
just had Chevy put new front brakes in for first time this week..did pretty good with originals.. but really hard to compare the way we drive here to actual big city driving with mileage and brakes like up in NY and on Long Island where we transplanted from 11 years ago.. also had Chevy fix a water leak thru the right rear door under warranty.. pretty decent dealer.. did it via a service bulletin I pulled from the NHTSA site on 'water intrusion-rear compartment' even though vehicle was out of warranty by 2K miles..
Has anyone heard what, if any, changes will be made to the 02 XL? I am ready to buy but I really want the 6 disk in dash c d changer (like Envoy and Denali) and a factory TV/VCR. Also, does the On Star system work as an everyday hands free phone like my dealer just informed me or is he misinformed. I want a integrated hands free phone set up but I want to be able to take my phone with me when I exit the vehicle. Any info would be appreciated.
Last year there was much talk about the On Star system and its use with a cell phone. I believe it was quite a project to integrate (against GM's warranty wishes) a cell phone into their system.
I would like to do this after talking to an On Star operator. The system was very clear, and she could hear me without talking loudly.
Our Suburban was assembled in Mexico, and we've had no problems (I'm probably jinxing myself everytime I post this). See post 767 for additional comments I made regarding 'burbs assembled in Mexico.
You don't get a choice on where your vehicle is built. GM schedules the work in the plant that needs it, according to production schedules (numbers being ordered from dealers across the country) and specific vehicles (I don't believe Tahoes and regular Yukons are built in Mexico, just Suburbans and Yukon XL's).
Does anyone know how long the 1000.00 Auto Show incentive is good for? I have seen several ads listing that and the GM loyalty discount but I want to know how quickly I need to act. 2000.00 off is quite a deal. Also can anyone reccomend a So Cal dealer who will sell close to invoice?
My 2001 Suburban LT 1500 2 wheel drive has a very annoying "rumble" type noise from suspension, especially on rough pavement. It's always there except on the very smoothest of roads.Sounds sort of like air compression inside like you get when moonroof is open too far sometimes Dealer test road it, opened window to see if that made a difference (did't) so he must have noticed it too.He said he didn't know what would fix it, if anything Dealerthen checked Chevy tech staff who have gotten some other complaints about this & they're looking into it. Anybody else notice this in theirs??
Sorry I took so long to answer your post. Been on a skiing vacation and just got back. I still don't have the wheelflares back from my bodyshop guy. He's been very backed up recently, and hasn't gotten to them yet. As for e-mailing pictures, I'm not very computer literate, but I'll be glad to give it a shot when I finally get them put on. I'll let you know with another post.
Tried to place order for XL today. Dealer seemed fair except for 10% of total selling price deposit required to place an order. Does this seem way out of line or about right? Florida panhandle dealer selling at invoice + ($500 in advert/prep fees.) Want truck but forking over $4000 on a non refundable deposit is scary and seems unnecessary.
I was reading the owners manual on my Yukon XL and discovered that there is a passenger compartment air filter. It filters incoming air for dirt and dust. It is located on the passenger side right under the glove box. This is exactly where everyone says the problem is. If the closeout panel is missing or installed wrong it may be the cause of all the cold air problems, and would also explain why not everyone has this problem. FYI I found the information in the manual for the 2001 Yukon XL page 6-20. The Denali XL may be in a different spot in the manual, so check the index under filter-passenger compartment. Keep us posted if you find this to be the trouble spot. I checked mine and it is installed correctly, and I have no cold air problem to report. Hope it helps.
Doug, I have no problem ordering a vehicle & putting down a "Good Faith" deposit. This deposit is usually $500.00, or in an extreme situation on a limited production very expensive vehicle even $1000.00, & this is refundable if you are not satisfied when the vehicle arrives. To expect you to pay 10% of the vehicles value in an unrefundable deposit prior to placing your order is ludicrous. There is nothing illegal in this practice, but given that there are 100's of GMC dealers around that do not make this demand, I find your dealers attitude somewhat arrogant. Good luck in your pursuit.
The second trip in to the service dep. wasn't good, after 10 days they finally said they haven't even heard anything! Their explanation as to why it took that long to come up with that answer was that they were making sure it didn't make the ticking sound. When it was picked up sure enough it wasn't ticking.???? But the next morning after driving a few miles there it was again. It was taken back immediately (Friday night) and the service manager finally agreed that he did hear the ticking (clicking) sound. Now he says it may be exhaust. We'll see on Monday when we take it back for the 3rd time. For background info,my 1st post was #679
$1000 Ontario Auto Show Special Consumer Rebate Expires 4/2/01 according to Cars Direct website. This looks like the last auto show in our area (SoCal) for awhile according to GMC website.
Since drb2002 (Dave) wanted someone to pull the manual - here is the printed word. In order to accurately measure the temperature in the cabin a small fan draws air across the surface of the varistor ( sensor ). It is located above the small grill above the drivers head. I have posted this about four times on Edmunds and GMSUV. No problem since I realize that more and more unlucky foke will discover a fan motor with a worn bearing - hence the noise. That fan motor must really get toasted as our trucks sit in direct sunlight - it gets hot up there! Don4341.
Has anyone else noticed a poor cooling design, causing the motor to run hot? I have a 2001 Suburban with the 8.1 liter motor and I have found it to occasionally run so hot that it overheats and this is quite disturbing from a new motor. Any help is appreciated.
I have been reading this board for several months...lots of great comments--thanks. Just yesterday I purchased a 2001 Suburban for my wife. It is 1500 LT/4x4/autoride/trailer pkg/locking diff/lift gate/wheel flares/rear seat audio controls/upgraded tires/skid plate. It was $7500 off MSRP ($6500 dealer mark-down plus $1000 customer rebate). I had been "eyeing" the particular VIN# via the internet for awhile and was amazed at the mark-down... was lucky to have called the dealer yesterday. I purchased it in San Jose CA area. Most of the major papers in the Bay Area and Sacramento area are advertising similar sales of in-stock vehicles. It is a buyers market, think the dot.com melt-down is having an impact. The fleet manager said my cost was about $2400 below invoice. Not sure if you can add the GM loyalty discount to the above savings. Good luck, hope this helps.
Yes, I have a factory installed moon roof. No auto climate control. Have had plenty of cold weather driving and no cold air "leaks". My 2001 3/4 ton Yukon XL was built in GTO Mexico, according to the sticker.
Try asking a guy by the screen name of vinnie6, he has one with a 8.1L engine. I checked on the radiators and the 8.1 gets a bigger one. I have a 2500 Yukon XL w/6.0L and have not had any running warm problems. The gauge reads 2 lines off of 210 degrees and stays put. You will more than likely find the answer to your question/problem in the Yukon XL/Chevy Suburban topic in the SUV menu.
Noticed when I recently washed my '00 Yukon XL that I had small metallic specs on the paint -- lower doors and lift gate. Suspected that it was fallout from when my wife was at the nearby brake caliper casting foundry on business and this was iron filings from the casting process. Spoke with their environmentalist regarding this and he told me they don't use asbestos in the brake pads anymore -- they use metallic filings with a bonding agent for the pads and this was probably the cause of the stuff on my car -- I just don't buy it...Anybody else experience this? No build up at all on the wheels..This is really strange....
I have a 2001 Chevy Suburban 2500 with the 8.1 liter motor. I have experienced running hot and overheating a couple of times. Has anyone else had similar problems? Also, it doesn't have an optional electric fan in front of the radiator, which the old model did have. It also only uses a five bladed main fan. Could this have anything to do with it? Any help is appreciated.
Type in a Zip Code of 95101 in the GM Powerbuyer link at the Edmunds Suburban web page. Carl Chevrolet is the dealer. They had the VIN# my wife wanted, and I used their GM Powerbuyer manager listed. They listed 5 VIN#s at the sale price in the Friday San Jose paper(not sure how negotiable they are on other VIN#s). I looked through Friday's San Jose paper again and Anderson Chevrolet had $7000 off MSRP with 6 VIN#S listed. We are about 80 miles from San Jose, but the drive got my wife the options she wanted and saved about $2500 from what we could get in our area. I kept waiting for hidden charges to pop up, but only a $45 doc prep fee, $5 CA tire fee, tax, and license were added. The $1000 customer rebate is available only in certain counties (based on where you live, the list was quite large), tax is based on the county you live in. The Sacramento area (zip 95682) has similar discounts at the larger dealers. The GM Powerbuyer is very useful; the view "window sticker" really helps.
I'm I doing anything wrong? I have very weak volume out of the rear radio jacks. It does not seem to matter what I am listening to CD/ or radio volume is very low. Looks like a waste of money so far. Any body else have any experiences? Bob S. Fl
