Thank you Steve. How about their OTD pricing ? Are they good or should I negotiate more and which one you think is better?
Gwinnett place honda tells me that they cannot remove the $808 accessories they have installed. This includes Pinstriping and the dealer gave me a breakup for the same and it was $199 for Pinstriping- so I assume its not tape
For the same car (excluding the extras), I'd go to Voyles just because they are cheaper. I suppose you can go back to Gwinnett and ask them to beat the price if you prefer them for some reason.
I shopped a Scion xB a couple of months ago that I thought had a big scratch on it. Turns out it was some painted on pin striping with a price of $399. So don't be surprised if the $199 pinstripes really are tape (not that paint is all that expensive either - both applications probably take about the same labor time).
If you're happy with the price, go ahead and start enjoying the new ride. Some people like to grind, but I'd rather leave a few bucks on the table and get on with my life. My problem is that I tend to get hung up on oddball stuff, like Toyota and their mandatory binding arbitration clause or a dealer's indifference to my request to put smaller wheels on a more expensive style
Hello @brian125 and @stever How does the below quotes look in Boston MA 2014 Honda CRV EX AWD 2014 1) 23327. + dealer fee 370 + sales tax Boch honda 2) 23399 + dealer fee 400 + sales tax Honda cars of Boston
Any other good dealer that I should try? Anyone in Boston area who bought recently?
Your dealing with 2 of the better dealers in boston. Boch honda is seliing you this vehicle for 2192 below invoice minus there doc fee's equaling 1822 below invoice price. Im sure you may be able to get a few more dollars but you may really have to work for it. probably not woth the time and effort.
My suggestion..... Take Boston's best price and have a dealer by you match this price for the sale today or when your ready to buy. I would consider a few dollars less from a local dealer to avoid all the time/ travel etc.
If you live in CT, NY or NJ, DE, or PA, pricing this low we cant get around here. 1000 to 1500 below invoice is tops and thats paying the dealers doc fee charge on top of this price.
Boston, MD, and VA, have the best pricing on Accords and CRV's right now.

Thank you Steve. So is $27,000 OTD price good for a 2014 CRV EXL 2WD?
Invoice is $26,994, so you are getting the EX-L for invoice and you're not having to pay any other sales taxes or fees. Looks like sales tax on a $27,000 vehicle in Georgia is $1,823 (more like $1,700 in your case when you look at the real numbers on your deal). Sounds like a good deal to me.
I need help!!
On 6/05, I (think) I purchased a 2014 CRV, LX. After 4 hours at one dealership, I walked out on an almost signed deal because I just couldn't deal with the fact that it was not black. I had a call from a bigger dealership in Charlotte, NC, and decided to go there instead. So, after a few more hours, and a seemingly better deal, I left with the new car.
Here is the briefing: I am a new grad nurse. I start my real job in a few weeks, making significantly more money than I do now. I brought a letter from my employer and my degree. My husband and I have been sharing a car while I was in school, but now that we have a 1-year-old, AND I have a real job, we decided it was time for a new car!
So, I my credit is fair, at best, and I did not have a down payment. Here is what is on the vehicle order form:
Price of Vehicle: 23775
Extended Service Agreement: 1892
Maintenance: 966
GAP: 599
Road Hazard T&W: 499
Car Care: 499
LoJack: 695
Tax on Service Contracts: 279.56
Total Delivered price: 29204.56
Highway use tax: 734.10
Tag/Title/Registration: 69
Expedited tag service: 99.95
Dealer admin charge: 549
Total: 30656.61
I signed all the documents at the end of this long day. The sales woman offered me payments ranging between 581-780, depending on what add ons I chose. I told her the absolute most I could afford would be 580. Then she said if I chose all of the add ons listed above, she could change some numbers around and make my payment 565. I thought that was good considering she first offered me 581 with absolutely nothing added on. She said since it was so late, she would be negotiating with everyone the following day, and that she would call me if there were any issues. She went through my credit report with me asking me to explain anything negative, which I did.
At this point, I have not heard from the dealership. I feel sick about all of this. In retrospect I for one don't think I need all of those add ons. Secondly, I thought I was getting a new grad deal, and I don't see that reflected on the breakdown. The way she was talking when I left, it sounded like nothing was in stone, yet I have the car, the tag, the contract.
I am very open to help and suggestions, ASAP. Thank you so much!!

Yes its a good price for June 3, in NJ. Find out if dealer added any incentive money to get you to 1178 below invoice price. If dealer did you should make them bump up there offer 3 to 500 dollars for a immediate sale.
Can you please let me know the location in Northern NJ. I am also interested in this price
I am a little confused when we say - a deal is good if the quote is 800-1500 lower than the invoice price.. So is the quote - all inclusive OTD price? At Atlanta, GA:
Here are the quotes for CRV EXL 2WD: 1) Gwinnette place Honda: Internet Sales Price $ 24,799.00
+Dealer Added: (Mudguards, wheel locks, trunk tray, 3m door edge, pinstripe) $ 808.00
+Doc Fees $ 549.00

+Title Fee & Lemon $ 80.00
=Total Drive Out $ 28,019.69 (Discount of $200 here and hence cost to me - $27,800 with these accessories)
2) Ed Voyles Honda: $24,500.00 Internet Price $ 598.00 Processing Fee $ 98.50 Electronic Title Fee $ 1,700.76 GA TAVT 6.75% (Estimated) $ 39.00 Title $26,939.26 Total Drive Out Price Factory Equipped
"3 YEAR CAR CARE PACKAGE" Includes 1. Lube, Oil and Filter 2. Clean and Adjust Brakes 3. Multi-Point Vehicle Inspection And: 1 Year Cross Country Motor Club Membership a. 24-Hour Roadside Assistance b. Emergency Towing Coverage
Are these good or should be negotiated further?
I posted a messege on your wall a few days ago .. you did not respond. Please read ..
Your first posted deal is good at 1482 below invoice if that dealer has included the 830 destanation charge in the deal.. Call and find out. I would make dealer cut the $808 package in half or more . Like @Stever posted............... your talking it costing the dealer less than 200 for that package.
deal 2............... is lower in price.
whats the price of the 3yr car care package? you did not post.
G-man.... when you post again leave out the otd numbers for me. Your postings are on top of each other it gets confusing to get threw. All I want you to post is :
dealer selling price ?
did that price include the dest/ fee?
What are the dealers doc fee or admin fee?
All your OTd numbers you could tabulate yourself and figure which deal is best. Most states taxes, and dmv charges are regulated.
OTD numbers are confusing since we all have different tax rates. But telling a dealer you want to know the OTC price usually tips them off that you are an educated consumer and you are focusing on the "real" price of the car. That often wipes out the add-on junk since the dealer knows you'll be shopping the OTD price with the other dealers in your area.
Invoice should include destination, but it does help to mention that.
I live in the Midwest and am planning to purchase a 2014 LX AWD.
I've gotten some Internet quotes, and the best so far is for $22,400.
That includes the destination fee. There are two more dealers left
to contact. How am I doing?
Internet quotes are just that. At some point after you contact dealers by email you need to figure on a target price to buy your model. A Low and high end. Then you call or visit dealers to finalize your sale. Internet quotes only get you so far, some dealers will quote you a standard price.
Your target price to buy should be starting at 1000 below dealers invoice to 1800 below on the high end.. Re- read thru these boards to see pricing and buying tips/ advice..
If dealers wont find you the color and model you want then go to the next dealership. There is still a large stock of 2014 models out there. Dealers sometimes want a small fee 300 dollars etc. to find and bring the vehicle to there dealership. Find the dealership that wont charge you.
Your deal right know is at 1647 below invoice . A excellent price compared to other members price thru out the states... There is no harm trying for a few more dollars. It can be done. I would try to get the dealer closest to your home to either, match or beat this price. This deal is good. So if no other dealers will go lower on the price and if you close on this deal today...... You have done very well.
Post your deal with name of dealer when you complete your deal. Posting this helps the other forum members in your area try for a similar deal
Hi Brian,
Turns out the dealer didn't had the car I want so he had to reach out to other dealers and get me one. Its arriving here on Wednesday. I just wanted to confirm the price once again. Its EX-L w/Navigation AWD. Car price 26976 + destination + TTL. Does it sound good? Secondly there will be few miles clocked < 100, is it a normal scenario?
Dealer is driving your requested vehicle back to the dealership. Yes its normal unless you want to pay the dealer to have it flatbedded 100 miles.
Good luck............... post your buying State, and Name of dealership when you complete your deal. This will help the other forum members try for a similar deal.
I have a quick question. I live in WA and I received an OTD of $22,428 (pre tax, pre fees, etc) for a 2014 honda crv awd. This includes splash guards and all weather mats. Is this a good price? I am doing this through the costco auto program. Thank you! This forum has been really helpful.
Your at 1k below dealers invoice after taking doc fee charges into considerartion. This is a average honda deal right now for June. WA pricing has been higher than rest of country. More in line with New jersey. If you want to lower your price Re-read thru the last 2 months boards on buying tips and how to negotiate better . That will save you a few more dollars.
Bryan, I am looking for advice on 2014 CR-V EXL AWD purchase. working with 3 potential dealers in MN and wondering if I should take $29,198 OTD? Wish I could wait until end of month but need to act soon. Received a price of $26899 + 75 Doc +476 DMV + 1748 Tax. To compare price to invoice, am I getting a price of $1100 under invoice ($26899 vs 28k)?
You pretty much answered your own question. Your 1100 under price is good in MN. Try to get dealer to throw in some freebie's like, cargo mat, splash guards etc. Ask dealer for some free oil changes. Post name of dealer when you complete your deal.
Has anyone used USAA to help them purchase a vehicle? I've gotten a quote from a dealer through USAA for 2014 CRV EXL AWD $26,964 plus TTL and $299 processing fee. Also, the dealer is in another state; I'm in W. Ky and this dealer is in Nashville so I would be having to pay my sales tax once I got home. I also have a 03 Pilot EXL with 153,000 miles to trade in which we will figure in at the end.
I hope this isn't too much to post in this forum, this is my first time posting here.
TIA!
USAA is usually a good way to go (I keep trying to get my brother to join). That said, like Costco and some of the other buying programs, you may be able to beat their price. It's usually a less hassle deal though, and that's worth something to a lot of people.
Your wrinkle may be the value of your trade, so be sure you appraise it. Even with the higher miles, Honda's hold their value pretty well. You may even want to sell it yourself if you have time (but yeah, it's convenient just to trade 'em in).
I'm on the road today and more disorganized than usual but maybe @Brian125 can weigh in on your price.

robinc113,
your hassel free deal is at 1036 below invoice. After paying the dealers 299 doc fee puts you at 737 below dealers invoice. If your not comfortable negotiating further make the deal . Otherwise there is about 300 to 800 dollars you may be able to get. Most forum members here are getting 1k below on the very low end of below invoice price.
Read thru the past 2 months boards to get some tips and advice on how to get dealer to give you a better deal.If You still need more help i will walk you thru the process
Your 03 Pilot trade could net you a few grand off your new car purchase thus lowering the sales tax on the new purchase.. Check out KBB. com Edmunds, and Nada used car pricing. for some idea on price.
Today I bought a 2014 LX AWD for $22,100. The OTD price was $24,030. The dealership was Richfield Bloomington Honda in Minnesota. The salesman was easy to work with and didn't pressure me at all. They also will match prices from the Internet for accessories.
Thanks for the fast reply! I really appreciate it. I have read through the posts which I have found very useful.
The dealer got back to me and gave me this as a breakdown:
Car $26,969
Tax $1,675
Doc Fee $299
Total $28,938
From what I've read on here I can do much better, especially towards the end of the month.
I keep forgetting that, probably because my cars are so old when I get rid of them dealers really don't want them. Most states do give you a break on the sales tax when you trade.

HI everyone.
Just wanted to update my car purchase experience in Houston. Sorry for the long note.
Due to my work and personal situation, I had to buy my car at the start of this month. Ideally I would have preferred to buy the car end of June.
Anyways, I paid ~ 22000 OTD for a 2014 LX 2WD with window tint included fom Russell and Smith Honda - Houston. The selling price was ~19460, dest fee = 830, doc and inventory fee ~ 180. Rest was Tax Title and Licensing/Registration. The price was ~1900 less than invoice.
From Brian125 and stever I know that this is not a bad deal. A big thanks to you both. I know I would have lost at least 1000$ if I had walked in a showroom to buy the car in a conventional way.
I nearly did not haggle with the price as the initial quote I received from the nearest dealer was very competitive ($22350 OTD including tint ). However, when I purchased, Honda had removed their special financing rate for CR-V (all other cars had it - I conformed it from their website). So I bargained a little with the finance guy and reduced the price by around 350$ to offset the high APR. I ended up having a 2.5% APR which is what I had with a local CU.
I spent close to 3 hours in the dealership and had the car. Most of it was spent waiting. Negotiations were for around only 15 minutes.
Helpful tips:
1) Have a credit union loan pre-approved - Saved me at least 850$. I had one at 2.5/3.5 % (based on down payment) approved. The finance person initially quoted 3.5 and I point blank told him I will rather use my CU. He came down to 2.5 immediately.
2) Be prepared with the numbers. Do the math before you enter (how much more you will pay for every additional 1% increase in APR).
3) If possible, get the APR rate before you enter the dealership. I did not do it due to time constraints. But you can say that unless you have the APR you will not step in.
Good luck and have fun with your CR-V
Hi Raam2 you got a really good deal. I need to try find something similar. Also in Houston and looking for a LX for my wife with a newborn.
Hi, I want to share my experience on the purchase of a new 2014 CR-V EX-L AWD w/NAV. I went through one of the online car price site and got an email quote from the local dealer that was a little below invoice. This was around memorial day. Obviously, the price was rather disappointing as Brian had taught us often to expect deals around 1K-1.5K below invoice so I just ignored the dealer emails after the quote and didn't bother pursuing other dealer quotes. Then 3 days before end of May, which I had read is when dealers are most willing to negotiate, I decided to email the local dealer back with what I thought was a very low OTD price and that if they accept the price I can rush over and sign the purchase contract. I had expected a few round of email exchanges where they would negotiate up the price but to my surprise they replied back with an acceptance.
To cut to the chase, I got the vehicle for 27.3K before Doc+DMV fees and taxes. Dealer name is Friendly Honda, located in Dutchess County NY.
Thanks Steve. But I didn't really do any work to get the deal. I went into the deal armed only with information I learned from you, Brian and others at this site. You guys saved me a boat load of greenbacks. Oh, and lest I forget the dealer was super easy to work with.
Sorry if this has been covered but how do you handle other options that have been added to the model you are looking at..Do you add them to your asking price or ask them to be thrown in the deal?
Thank you
Any added accessories put in the vehicle you try to buy from dealer at his invoice price and not full msrp price. If you can't get dealer to come down on accessories you then tell dealer to find you the model you want or you will shop elsewhere. A 800 dollar option package might cost dealer 300 but they will try to get you for the full price..
First, thanks @brian125 for all the info. We bought for $1500 under invoice for an EX-L AWD ($1650-$150 doc fee) in WA state. There were some addons but we basically refused to pay. We had initially agreed on price via email, but negotiation was still tough though because we had a trade and needed them to match the best trade offer too. Best advice is obviously to sell your other vehicle on your own but it is a pain to repair, detail and deal with craigslist flakes.
We also had to deal with the glut of dealer addons on all the cars. We found the dealers in the more affluent cities had higher amounts of addons ($2000 of random accessories), while buying at dealers in lower demand/cost of living areas had less ($1200 of stuff including service visits which could be removed). We were able to get the addon price down to $0.
@fishybass55 you might want to try telling them you want to order the car so that it doesnt have the addons if you can get them to agree on an addon-free price. At the very least, they can't claim there is more $$$ cost in the car
Good job on your sale. Most buyers wont make a deal as good as you made in Wa state. Enjoy that new ride it was well worth the extra time and effort you put in .. A buy and trade is the hardest and sometimes the most stressful Transaction in the car buying world.

In some states, the tax break you get from trading in a car makes up for the extra money you can get out of selling your used car yourself. I recently sold two used cars myself and had no problems, but I'm in a small town where everyone knows everybody and that helps with the flake factor.
Dealers generally don't enjoy the same mark-up on new car prices as they do on used cars, parts and repair and accessories. So they tack on junk accessories to try to increase their profit margin. Capitalism at work.
I'd love to see a simple side-by-side table of how the various brands/dealers all differ with respect to pricing, holdbacks, typical factory incentives, CSI kickbacks, as well as addons/accessories. For instance, I didn't see any junk accessories on the cars at Audi or BMW (of course they still offer the extended warranties and tire protection once you get to finance), whereas I haven't seen a Honda WITHOUT any pre-installed accessories.
I wonder if even most dealer owners have a great handle on the rest of the incentives - there seems to be a lot of them and they aren't parceled out equally to the dealers from the manufacturers. Junk accessories and gouging doc fees vary pretty widely too.
I read through this forum and I still think I am a bit confused. I am looking at a CR-V LX AWD and it appears that the invoice around northeast ohio is $23,718. Would a price at $23,900 otd be sufficient since it includes about $1500 in tax? Thanks!

That includes the destination fee. There are two more dealers left
to contact. How am I doing?
melvin,
Internet quotes are just that.

Hi Brian,
Turns out the dealer didn't had the car I want so he had to reach out to other dealers and get me one. Its arriving here on Wednesday. I just wanted to confirm the price once again. Its EX-L w/Navigation AWD. Car price 26976 + destination + TTL. Does it sound good? Secondly there will be few miles clocked < 100, is it a normal scenario?
Thanks for your help
Mayurj,
Yes this is a good deal.
Dealer is driving your requested vehicle back to the dealership. Yes its normal unless you want to pay the dealer to have it flatbedded 100 miles.
Good luck............... post your buying State, and Name of dealership when you complete your deal. This will help the other forum members try for a similar deal.

Hi everybody,
I have a quick question. I live in WA and I received an OTD of $22,428 (pre tax, pre fees, etc) for a 2014 honda crv awd. This includes splash guards and all weather mats. Is this a good price? I am doing this through the costco auto program. Thank you! This forum has been really helpful.
Need selling price? , dealers doc fee charge?. Is dest/charge included in selling price?
23 Telluride SX-P X-Line, 23 Camry XSE
@brian125: sorry for the confusion. The selling price is $22,428. This price includes the destination charge of $830. The dealer doc fees is $150.
what model?

Vernon,
Your at 1k below dealers invoice after taking doc fee charges into considerartion. This is a average honda deal right now for June. WA pricing has been higher than rest of country. More in line with New jersey. If you want to lower your price Re-read thru the last 2 months boards on buying tips and how to negotiate better . That will save you a few more dollars.
good luck

Bryan, I am looking for advice on 2014 CR-V EXL AWD purchase. working with 3 potential dealers in MN and wondering if I should take $29,198 OTD? Wish I could wait until end of month but need to act soon. Received a price of $26899 + 75 Doc +476 DMV + 1748 Tax. To compare price to invoice, am I getting a price of $1100 under invoice ($26899 vs 28k)?
woodyandpenny,
You pretty much answered your own question.

TIA!
Welcome to the forum - we like all posts. :-)
Read thru the past 2 months boards to get some tips and advice on how to get dealer to give you a better deal.If You still need more help i will walk you thru the process
...................................... Read thru boards first.

Thank you Brian125. I will try my best!
I keep forgetting that, probably because my cars are so old when I get rid of them dealers really don't want them. Most states do give you a break on the sales tax when you trade.
@stever.
lol................. thats why you have alot of money.

lol, and even when I bought "new", as I recently did, I wound up with a 2009 minivan with 125,000 miles on it.
(Camping on the road tonight in Brush Colorado. It's free for the first night.

Hey let us know if there is a big foot sighting................. have fun

@meisan, nice work - congrats!

Thank you vm

Congrats on the new ride!
Here's holdback info.
Thanks!
