.00130 base MF and 61% residual.

Let's assume that the $1730 upfront pays the acquisition fee, 1st payment and title/registration/doc fee.

To get to the $440 pre-tax payment, the selling price would have to be $40,300, assuming they are using the base money factor. Since BMW is offering $2750 of incentives on this model, that makes the dealer discount from MSRP $2225. That's about 5% off... I'd be shooting for 7% off... that would be another $900 off the selling price, or a pre-tax payment of $414/mo.

Hi, I'm in tx and looking at the 328xdrive, with premium package, navigation, and cold weather. I've been quoted the following or similar from 2 dealerships and think the numbers should be lower, can you help with what would be best counteroffer:

    MSRP-46975
    Cap Cost 43,825
    MF-.00170 (my experian score is 657, tranunion&equifax are 660/670)
    36 mth/15k
    tax-1520
    doc fee 50
    nondoc fee 229?

    trade in 2011 328i 36k, payoff 17321, offered 19500
    USAA member
    Previous bmw owner

    what is residual on 328ixdrive?
What are bmw dealer incentives for xdrive?
do usaa members get 500 off?
    is bmw loyalty 750?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks:)

Oh I forgot to add that the monthly payment quoted has been 533 on the numbers listed above and 495 from another dealership.

Residual for 36/15 is 61% on the 328xi. Using your numbers, I calculate a pre-tax payment of $544.61.

The base MF is .00130, but that may be marked up by the dealer due to your credit score.

Build out cash of $2000 this month; can't speak to loyalty or USAA incentives.

thanks, your comments help. I've emailed many bmw dealers for quotes and also called dm leasing...do you know anything about dm leasing? is it reputable? They say they work differently than the bm dealerships. I'm just leery of not going through bmw for a lease.

Not familiar with DM leasing. I'd stick with the captive manufacturer finance company, just so there aren't any surprises at the end of the lease (damage charges, etc.).

I built my own spreadsheet .. what numbers are you getting? Can you break down the depreciation and finance charges within the monthly payment?

I currently reside in GA and am looking to lease a new 328i and or 335i. From what I've seen in the forum, I should expect to get 5-10% off MSRP for a newly leased vehicle (which includes all deductions from incentives and increases from Acq. and Doc Fees...etc).

Unfortunately, GA has changed the laws such that I would need to pay taxes (~7%) up front on the cap cost of the car (i.e., taxes on a $40-$50k vehicle) and my lease payments will not have monthly tax added to them, but instead the capitalized cost would be increased by the amount of taxes on the car (i.e., add ~$2,700 to a $40,000 negotiated price of the vehicle). I don't believe this increases the residual either.

From an economic perspective, paying taxes on the whole price of the car is terrible, and furthermore, if I decide to purchase, I would need to pay taxes AGAIN on the purchase price (so I'm definitely not purchasing). I cannot lease in another state as the car needs to be registered here, so I'm stuck paying taxes in GA no matter what. I know there's a few other states that have this issue and folks have said to go the BMW Select route, but I'm not interested in purchasing a car, regardless of how low the interest rate is.

Has anyone had recent success negotiating the price lower than the typical 5-10% (in this situation) in order to partially make up for uneconomic lease structure in GA? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Yes, the "ad valorem" tax has really hurt folks who try to lease in GA. Illinois had a similar tax situation, but legislation was just passed to rescind the "tax the whole purchase price" on a lease. However, the new law doesn't go into effect until 1/1/15.

Texas is another state that taxes leases this way; others have discussed how the dealer can offer 'tax credits' to offset this amount. Perhaps Georgia dealers will begin to offer this incentive as well?

BMW Select is designed specifically for these states ... it's a balloon payment program, with a set residual at the end of the term. For the 328i, the 3 year residual is 54% if your credit score is 700 or higher; the 335i residual is 52%. Remember, with the Select program, there are no mileage restrictions.

Why, specifically, are you not interested in a purchase option? Are there business / accounting reasons advantages for leasing in your case?

How long are the terms of the BMW select program? Do you have the residual on 60 month terms? Back of the envelope (assuming 2.9% rate for 36 month Select Program) and $40,000 purchase price (MSRP of $45,000) + $2,700 in taxes, with a 54% residual, I calculate ~$590/month with balance of $24,300 due at maturity.

For the same car, as a lease for 36 months (in GA) with a 63% residual, and a maximum of 7 MSDs, I'm calculating ~$454/month (which is about $50 more than the monthly payment incl. a monthly tax). Given that I'd have to live with the $454/month, has there been any success getting a discount beyond 10%? On a $45,000 MSRP, I'd need to see around 15%-18% off MSRP ($6,500-$8,000) before taxes to get an equivalent price, which at least $1,500 more than the indicative $5,000.

I don't think 15% off sticker is doable. The most I've seen is 6-8%. However, on a lease, you can make multiple security deposits (MSD) to lower your MF from .00130 down to .00081, which will reduce your payment. And, you get that money back at the end of the lease.

EDIT - oops, I see you are factoring in MSD into your lease calcs.

Please help me as I am new to leasing. I have only bought cars previously

I am interested in the following vehicle BMW 328D x drive msrp is 49225 with invoice of 45280. Assuming i can get at invoice and there is a 2750 incentive the cap cost should be 42530. I would like 15k miles and 36 months. I will be attending a bmw event tomorrow which will give me a 1000 coupon whether that can be used or not I do not know.
I think instead of going in and asking for prices I want to know what I should pay per month without tax before i go in.

I am not sure of the resid value I think it is 61 percent and I will be giving full security deposits to get to the lowest MF I assume this is .00081 as above.

I will pay out of pocket any fees required to start the lease. So what should I pay per month with this scenario. I will run the numbers but I am afraid I will mess something up

    thanks so much

    Bill,

Your numbers are spot on - base MF is .00130 (.00081 after MSD) and 61% residual for 36/15.

I get a pre-tax payment of $406.07 with the above and your MSRP and net cap cost. If you can use the $1000 event coupon to reduce the cap cost further, the payment should decrease about $28/mo.

The Select program only makes sense, if you plan on buying the car... It's designed to get a payment closer to a lease. I guess the other advantage is.... if you trade it in, you can get a trade-in credit against the taxes on your next vehicle.

    36% and 34% for the 2015 328i or 335i for 60 months.

Close enough .. I'm getting $365.87 before tax. NJ taxes the entire lease amount up front - you can pay at lease inception or add the tax to the net cap cost. The monthly payment itself isn't taxed.

    Nice discount from sticker!

If the selling price is 7% off MSRP minus the $1000 buildout cash incentive, and you capitalize the acquisition fee, money factor of .00081 (after MSDs) and residual of 63%, the payment would be about $425/mo. plus tax. Due at signing would be 1st payment, title/registration and the 7 MSDs.

Thanks for the quick reply! Sorry, the negotiated selling price is $44,850 instead of an MSRP of $49,175. So how much / mont would I be looking at ?
    Thanks

Base MF is .00130; after MSDs it's .00081. Residual is 63%. With your MSRP and selling price, I calculate a pre-tax payment of $446.69.

I'm looking to lease a 2014 328d xi, MSRP is 49,275 including the destination fee. I think I should shoot for the price at invoice less the incentives. Is that a fair price? I know the car has 1,750 and 1,000 in incentives and I am signed up for the test drive event to add another 1,000. I think I want to use the maximum MSD's to get down to the .00081 MF and I am considering putting $1k down as a cap cost reduction to keep the monthly a little lower. I would like 36 month at 12k per month.

    Is this reasonable?
    MSRP - 49,275
    Sales Price - $45,300
    Incentives - $3,750
    Cap cost - $41,550
    MF - .00081
    Residual - 63% - $31,043
    12k miles 36 months
    Payment without tax - $342?

    Thank you very much

I also included the $1,000 down payment in my scenario

I am being offered the following deal on a 2014 328d xdrive.
    MSRP 47750
    Cap Cost 39975
    Includes 2750 + 1000 test drive credit.
    36 mos 12K
1st payment, bank fee, registration down.
    $367/month plus 7% NJ sales tax= $393/month
    ????

Is the $2750 a down payment (i.e., cap cost reduction) or incentive from BMW?

My numbers are fairly close to yours - I get a pre-tax payment of $350.65.

Putting down $1000 saves you $28/mo on the lease --- but we don't recommend you do that.

What about the start up costs? Acq fee, tags, etc? Are you paying those up front or rolling them into the cap cost?

You might also want to confirm with the dealer that the $45,300 is before any applicable incentives are applied.

    Thank you

I don't have this deal in hand yet. I think that the 45,300 would be my offer before incentives. Is that reasonable or low?

I was planning on just paying acq, tags etc up front

The TMV price was 44,269 but I was not sure if that included the incentive?

The pricing tools should break out any incentives available.

MF is marked up from .00130. With your MSRP and selling price with the base MF and 63% RV, I get a pre-tax payment of $513.43. Quite a bit of room to do better.

The 328xi has $2000 build out cash vs. the $1000 for the 320xi..

.00130 MF and 61% residual for 36mo, 15K/yr for both models.

I calculate your numbers as $367.22 pre-tax, so your payment seems about right.
