Bought 16 Accord EX w Sensing for $23383+$303.27 in doc+extra fee from Grossinger in Chicago (Salersperson Gilbert was great). Thought it was a decent deal. Price offered is $2751 below invoice.

Hi You got a AWESOME DEAL.
I bought one 2016 accord EX with Sensing with hail damage (I found out AFTER THE fact that it was $5500 in body work that the dealership got paid out on from insurance, and they fixed the car for prob 25% of that). I knew it had hail damage but expected it to be 3k, for which I was expecting 1.5k in savings ->

My total was $24K OTD which amounted to roughly $22,222 selling price. It was brand new with 10 miles on it. Title dosent show any damage, looks like a brand new car.

The fact that it was $5k in damage and I am sure the dealership spent maybe $1.5 to fix it (MAX) left 3.5k on the table. Even if I split it with them I should have gotten approx another 1K off the deal.

I am pretty angry about the deal now.

Look at it from the other side .

1- Dealer fixed vehicle it looks brand new

2- You got a better deal than before

    3- Cost you nothing

4- There is no mechanical damage

5- Who care's how much dealer pocketed off INS from paint and repair that savings dealer made If any. Your assuming what dealer paid

End result you got a better deal than before

    True True, cant fight that.
The risk I take is that the panels that were removed, including hood, trunk, and top of car that were removed were not factory installed, rather were installed at a dealership. I could be paranoid, but if any of those weather seals are done with 'less care' I could have a issue down the road. For now, so far so good. My thinking I should be comped for this risk somehow (more than the amount I saved already). Could it be greed?

The thing is - the dealer was pretty happy with the deal, so it makes me think she was making a ton of money off of me.

msrp for ex w/sensing is 28215

the guy in chicago got an awesome deal at ~23.7k pre-tax/tt&l

you paid 22.2k (your number) for a car that WAS damaged yet repaired to "like-new" condition

i think you did very well at 6000 below msrp - stop over thinking it and enjoy your new car!

Thanks! This is in Texas, Fiesta Honda. Not much left for the 2016 models all over the state... searched in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio for those looking in Texas.

You bought yours in SA as well? Care to elaborate on your experience afterwards?

    Thanks!

TERRIBLE Follow up. The car had a few scratches on it was promised it would be fixed post sale. also - car has a shimmy still (needs wheel balance)
Honda considers wheel balahcning wear and tear.
I live in Austin so took it to local dealership and trying to get fiesta honda to pay for it since they didnt do the job right the first time.

my sales lady has suddenly gone silent (by silent I mean intentionally rejecting my calls). and not responding to SMS.

Any recommendations or strategies to get the best deal this labor day weekend?
  • billydocbillydoc Member Posts: 12
Looking to buy 2016 Accord EXL w/ Sensing this Labor Day weekend. I'm in Dallas-Fort Worth area. TrueCar has it at $31, 664. It seems insanely high for the new, but now 1 year old car. Any advise? I'm thinking look in other areas of the country and consider shipping or driving from there if it's not all the way cross-country?

Shipping a vehicle depending on miles could run you $500 plus . Check out prices

I recommend and have used 3 times Direct Express Auto Transport............... No problems

Shipping a vehicle from MD or VA to Dallas should cost you $500

Almost seems too cheap - I figured $800 was about the minimum. I have a sister in VA so I'm just going to do a fly/drive when I buy back there. :)
  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244
Direct Express was cheaper than most of the better rated movers.

Thank You all for your replies. Well, it seems that cars in TX cost more and b/c economy is doing well here and people are are moving in droves the demand is always quite high. So dealers know it and sometimes may play a hardball, but they want to move 2016 inventory for sure. I shipped my current Accord LX from New York to Dallas for $700 exactly 3 years ago when we moved here. B/C we had to fly back and forth and it's a leased car it was cheaper to ship. I used DAS shipping. No problems but it took about 2 weeks.

This sounds like an amazing deal. Can you share dealership name? and location. How much below invoice was this? Ive seen most people go 2-3k below invoice.

NADA says 28,952 with destination. The car came with the trunk tray, wheel locks, and mud guards for 25,302. I wasn't in the market for a V6 EX-L but pulled the trigger because of the price. I had been shopping sports.

Not necessarily true. I bought my car for close to $2000 below invoice here in Houston, a 2016 Touring. So, if you are aggressive, you can pick up a car for a good price. At the dealer I bought my car, they have 22 2016 models left. http://www.gillmanhondahouston.com/new-inventory/index.htm?year=2016-2016&model=Accord&sortBy=internetPrice+desc&

OK folks, It's official. We are in the 2017 Accord EX with Sensing and many other features. $27, 645 OTD. I know it's a 2016 thread but wanted someone to tell us if we did alright. We had 2016 EXL V6 in mind, but after test driving 2017 EXL (4 cylinders) and then 2017 EX kind of liked it better and we think it's not a bad buy. Please chime in and Happy Labor Day to all :)!

wow! splash guards and mud flaps?

i usually don't respond to posts about how did i do AFTER the deed is done.
In this case, i will make an exception

2016 touring has msrp of 35.5k; you paid 29.7k allowing for about $300 of that extra dealer profit making crap.
I don't see any gouging in your fee breakdown. Cali is high with tax/fees.

overall, a great deal at a great time - you did very well, congrats!
