Easy story - old style, pre-facelift, old engine, old ICE, not a full option car. Too old to be new, and way too new to be old in a cool way. This is a case where the original owner messed up by not driving it, as the low miles aren't a huge plus. I wonder why it was used so sparingly.
Lots of styling, busy details, leering menacing lights make suburban clones feel active and exciting. Lift it a few inches and they become rough and tumble nature enthusiasts on top of it.
I was in traffic today surrounded by a pair of new Civics, both painted black. I think about half of the ones I see locally are black. Dealers may feel that it helps hide many of the black plastic faux-scoops and vents these are festooned with, and in truth it does make it look a bit better. One thing I noticed at a stoplight that I hadn't picked up before: even the mirror housings are overstyled, with little fins or strake lines molded into them. It is like the modern-day version of a Virgil Exner design of the 1950s.
Someone I do business with recently purchased a CPO 2015 X5 ///M-Sport . Carbon Black/Black Interior. 39,000 miles. Great shape. His wife noticed after after they were in the car for 1/2 hour or so with the windows up & the AC cranking that it smelled like stale cigarettes. Turns out the person who had leased the car previously had been a smoker. He brought it to the dealer's attention & they are steam cleaning the interior as well as replacing the cabin filter which was BLACK.
They gave him an X1 as a loaner to drive. I checked it out while he was here. White with Brown Interior and those 18" Soccer Ball wheels. Sharp looking little SUV.
Guess CPO doesn't really mean much in terms of dealer pre-conditioning. You would think the 259 point inspection would include the cabin filter.

I think they gloss over the newer ones, if it has normal recent service history, and just assume a lot of things are fine based on the maintenance schedule.

Most of ours come out of the loaner fleet or short term leases. As far as smoking goes, the owner of my M6 was a smoker; I put dryer sheets under the seats a couple of times and cleaned the interior thoroughly and it was fine.

ab348, I haven't had a chance to read all the recent postings, did you do the deal with the new ATS? I have to agree that the styling on the new Civic is too busy, otherwise a very nice car. An EX-L seems decently priced and well equipped. I just hope Honda doesn't apply too many of the styling cues on the new Accord.

No, not yet. It is strange. The dealer had me call GM Financial to advise that I wanted to end the lease early thanks to their buying it out and to schedule a lease-end inspection. I can sort of understand my having to do that instead of them, so I did that last week. In the mail Monday I got the GM Financial lease end paperwork, but still no contact from the inspection company after a week. I was talking to my sales guy on Monday, he was going to get their manager to contact someone at AutoVIN to expedite that process, but as of right now still nothing.

That doesn't make sense. If the dealer is buying it out, no lease end inspection happens because it isn't going back to GM financial.

I have no idea what the inner workings of the deal are. Maybe there are some incentives from GM to pull ahead the lease end date. If I don't hear anything today I'm going to start pushing. It's not like I'm desperate to do this.
Received this email from the sales manager at the Ford dealer I am visiting Friday. After doing some research on the car I've cooled on it a bit so we'll see if a test drive brings me around or eliminates it from consideration.
Steve,
Bryan let me know you will be here Friday morning to look at one of our Fusion Sports. We are very proud of the Fusion Sport and think you will be very pleased with what you see and drive. Bryan explained to me you are just starting the process of looking for your next vehicle and that you would not be prepared to commit to a purchase. Assuming the vehicle meets and exceeds your expectations, and I believe it will, I want to take this opportunity to let you know I will do whatever I can to get you into the Fusion Sport. I am aware your current lease does not end for another 3 months however I think we can make a very competitive offer for your Audi. We are very appreciative of the business your parents, and most recently your brother from what Bryan tells me, have provided to us over the years and I am pleased you are giving us the chance to earn your business as well.
Please make sure you ask for me on Friday morning when you arrive as I have a genuine interest in seeing you leave in a Ford vehicle and I'm confident in our ability to convince you that is the right decision. In the interim please do not hesitate to contact me at the number below if you have ANY questions, concerns, or need additional information on leasing.

Interesting .. I'm guessing the Ford dealer doesn't get a lot of current Audi owners (or leasers) interested in their product.
The tone of the email is slightly pushy, but not offensive (to me).
Best of luck with the test drive on Friday; curious to hear your thoughts.
Quite frankly I was surprised by the sales manager's interest in the matter altogether and thought it was a little pushy too but I think it also has undertones of desperation, especially given the state of Fusion sales and the sedan market in general...aside from the likes of Honda or Toyota. My parents are very loyal to the Ford brand and to this dealer in particular so maybe that's the reason. They didn't get a shot in 2011 when I bought my last and only Ford (also a Fusion Sport) because they didn't have any in stock.
I doubt they get many Audi (or BMW, Mercedes, Acura, etc) owners cross-shopping too but on paper the Ford looks like a budget Audi that comes in around $10,000 less than a comparably equipped A4. There's probably a reason for that and I'm looking to flesh it out on Friday.

Nothing wrong per se, but it is a final run W203 - a car not known to be the zenith of MB quality. I am not aware of any glaring Achilles heel. Spec looks fairly basic. Condition looks good anyway.

@jpp5862 and I are making tentative plans to test drive some stuff on Saturday. Might hit up the Mazda dealer -me to drive a 6 with a stick shift and @jpp5862 to look at the CX-5.

You'll have to let me know how it goes - I'll likely be tied up with boys' baseball games but otherwise would join in.
I'm starting to see a couple of the new CX-5's on the road - really sharp.
One of my neighbors appears to have traded their Lexus hybrid (one of the ones that is a Prius clone) for a Mustang GT with a manual. Quite a departure!
@pensfan83 good luck on Friday! cant wate to hear all about it and what the outcum will be! haven't had the chance to sit in one of those the regular one sat in back in October think it was nice car!

They probably thought due to the looks it was going to be fast (The Lexus Prius copy), and perhaps also because the speedo probably goes up to 160 MPH (can't believe people fall for that).

well, I don't think I can see myself driving this, but if you want a drop top, this one based on year and miles seems to actually be a pretty good deal. Cheap enough.
Comments
They seem to depreciate well into the mid $20s which would make them an excelllent CPO buy.
