Why don't you like Paypal? I've used it for years and years to accept payment from clients and it works great. It also serves as a kind of escrow. I tell my clients that we'll keep the money in my account and I won't withdraw it until my work is delivered to them. That way, I say, refunds are easy should they abort the job before I get started on it, or they change their minds before I do any work.

In your case, tell them that you won't withdraw the funds until they send you an e-mail that they've received the shoes. Also tell them that if they don't fit, return shipping is on them but otherwise they get a full refund.

It takes about 3 days for the bank to determine if the check is good. They will post the deposit, you will see it and mail the shoes, then a couple of days later you are told the check is no good. Sometimes the deposited check will be for much more than it should be. The checkwriter will contact you and say he made a mistake and would you please send him the amount that he overpaid. Afterward you find out the original check bounced.

I woke up this morning and could not get up. Getting old, I muttered under my breath. When I checked the time it was 7:30 AM and the outside temperature 47 degrees. Yikes! that's cold.

Come to think of it we did not have much of a summer as I don't remember the temperature ever cracking 90 degrees in August. Some of you here may be right after all, there is no global warming. But these lobsters lobsters caught off the coast of Boston did not get the memo.

Note that local taxes in Ohio rank very high compared to the rest of the country.

He also crows about his having balanced the budget when he was on committees in DC, but he wasn't the only one on those committees, was he? See paragraph #1.

Most outrageous was his taking over the press conference after the terrorist drove the car into students on OSU's campus. A press conference about the incident turned into a crowing campaign speech about what he claimed to have done.

I suspect Jerry Springer could beat him for governor if Kasick could run again.

BTW.....I just read yesterday that there is a group urging Jerry Springer to run for office. Not sure what office it would be....assuming it would be somehow tied to OH given he still has a home here.

Apparently, he's got enough money and backing to pull it off and is considering it seriously.

For the $40 I am getting for them I could leave them at the club and if someone wants them they can have them. The work in placing an ad and going to the post office isn't worth the $40, although it will buy us or at least me a dinner.

Springer couldn't do worse than the garbage at the helm in recent memory.

Maybe a way to force a quicker resolution to the healthcare disaster would be to force all public sector workers to choose from the same packages offered to private sector workers, either corporate or through an exchange. This would include everything from city maintenance workers to the praetorian sector to swamp-dwelling congresscritters to the spoiled kin of (s)elected officials. This would include coverage in retirement. Maybe if those with the finger on the button had to deal with the exasperating choices of actual working people, there'd be reform. Fat chance, I know.

I wouldn't give my bank account # to a total stranger. At least with a restaurant, etc, you can trace the problem to some extent, should there be one.

If the buyer is being evasive, and won't do Paypal and won't even do a money order, then dump him. If they send a check, wait a few days before sending merchandise until the check clears.

Probably good advice....especially about a money order. That should keep everybody happy, unless he doesn't trust me. If he doesn't like it I can find someone at the club who wants the shoes.

Anyone else remember Daewoo? They rode a white horse into town and they were REALLY going to blow the market apart and they tried to elbow their way into an overcrowded market. Kia and Hyundai were building junky cars back then so it was like..." What? another Korean "me too" car?"

I drove one of the first ones---not very impressive but I can't say it was AWFUL like a Trabant. But it was slow, cheap interior, very unsettling handling. I think lots of buyers had problems with them.

I remember driving one of the first Toyota Corollas that came over back around 1970. Very plain simple car but I was really impressed with that first drive, especially compared it to my then current '68 Beetle.

Hyundai brought the Pony to Canada in 1984. They sold well and were really cheap, but soon people found they suddenly fell apart.
Kind of cute, but troublesome:

In 1986 Hyundai brought the Excel to the US. (The Pony didn't pass U.S. emissions tests)

In 1986, Hyundai began to sell cars in the United States, the Excel was the first model sold;

Daewoo chose to take the same path.....really cheap cars. But, people were beginning to see Hyundais were getting better, and Daewoo was where the original Hyundais were....so there just wasn't a market. They were cheap, looked it, and were poorly made.

I wasn't kidding when I mentioned Jerry! Jerry! Jerry! He, or his promoters, have him supposedly thinking about running for governor of OHIO. Earlier he had thought about running for senator and I assume that was for Brown's Ohio seat in the US senate.

Does this seem odd?

Local CL car looks good in pictures but is priced 50% higher than the books say even if you assume low milage. I say assume because seller didn't list milage. Out of curiosity I sent him an email asking milage. He responds "call me".

Now why wouldn't he just answer the question?

There used to be dedicated forum here called Daewoo Leganza and it was populated by a small group of fiercely loyal owners. They were quick to snap back if anyone was to say anything negative.

We once took a Leganza in on trade. It was so nice that we actually decided to keep it. It only had something like 25,000 miles and of course we didn't pay a lot for it. We tried for a month to sell it and I think it was priced at around half the price an Accord would have. We took it to the auction where it bombed. We were instructed by our GM to never take in another one!

I remember I was in school when the Daewoo debuted. The local dealer was funny - also a MB dealer, so MB and Daewoo shared sign space, talk about different worlds. In that college town, they were a common sight, no doubt selling to students employed part time, and maybe to parents wanting a cheap runabout for the kid. I remember some of them could be loaded up with moonroof, leather,etc. Of course, back then the fintail was my DD, and I sneered at something like this.

I remember a friend had a rental car around 2002, and the rental agency received a batch of unsold 2 year old Daewoo Lanos. As this was an insurance rental, she got the cheapest car, this was it. It was purple, and she named it "the Skittle". She cringed at the lack of refinement compared to her 10 year old Legend.

Canada got all kinds of oddballs back then, the Eastern Bloc cars caught my eye. As a I was kind of a Russophile when I was a kid, the Ladas were very interesting to me, even if they were mostly awful.

Translation: The mileage wasn't mentioned because it is very high. If you call me I can explain the reason it is so high. Probably "all" highway miles.

My mom bought a Toyota Corona back in 1968 and it was a terrific car compared to the Beetles my friends had. Lasted forever too.

Wasn't that a little fastback then? Great little cars! Year, compared to a Beetle it had certain small amenities, such as heat, acceleration and visibility.

First Toyotas sold in US...Corona 1965-66

The big sellers started in 68 with Corollas. Quickly became #3 selling car in US. There was a fastback and sedan models.....good memory.

The Corollas that came here in the late '60s and especially the revised model that appeared in 1970 or so were the very definition of "biodegradable" in our salt-air and salted road coastal climate. Between them and the original Civic I never saw a car rust away so quickly. Mechanicals were bulletproof though.

Cheap cars always did well here but even the Daewoo was a tough sell. You saw a few but not as many as I would have expected. A local dealer group snapped up the franchise when it first became available and built a new showroom just down the road from me here as a single-franchise operation. The thing I remember was a massive "DAEWOO" colored neon-tube sign that was very impressive, probably about 5'x20'. Of course the place shut down very quickly and I remember the sign was removed from the empty building and sat forlornly out in the back lot for a long time as the place sat empty. The building was unused for a few years and eventually became a used-car store.

These early Coronas and Corollas were a revelation to a lot of people--they were really the first affordable, comfortable, competent, reliable, economical foreign car that an American family could embrace (along with the Datsun 510). Most of all they were a great value and very sophisticated for their price point.

I had a 1972 Datsun B210, bought used in mid 70's. Great little car. Looked at and test drove a new B 210 for one of my sons around mid '80's. It was a real dog. Finally bought a couple of Sentra's for sons in early 90's and they were great little cars. Go figure. Of course they wanted the SE-R, but no dice. SE only.

Our first foreign was a 1977 Datsun B-210, a manual for my older sister, and it was a pretty damn good vehicle for that time. Only trouble I had was getting off I-95 at Miami Gardens Drive where the exit went up instead of down! Rolled back a bit which scared me to death but luckily, no one was behind me. It was a dark blue hatch and really crude compared to today's Nissans. Shoulda bought the '77 orange 210 sedan my folks friends were selling as it was a second vehicle hardly used with low low miles but the four doors and color turned me off. Dumb move as the first generation '76 Opel I bought was a nightmare from day 1. First year that Izuzu produced it and it was possessed I think. Bought it in '77 with 2K on the clock and a huge mistake, worst vehicle I ever owned.
Went with a '79 B-210 hatch in 1981, a rental I found out later with 16K on it. Served us well for many miles and through the birth of our 3 rugrats!

On healthcare, what is "single payer"? Have heard this could solve upteen problems going forward. What the hell is it and why won't it work? The ACA needs to be fixed, not gutted since the other side can not come up with anything after 9 plus years it seems. If some of their own won't vote for it, sends a big message.
So, again...what is "single payer" and is it a viable alternative here???

PayPal has turned out to be the easiest way to pay for most stuff. Used it when I bought my new iPhone on eBay a few months back and also with an HSN purchase. Easy peasy and nothing to be afraid of. After multiple fraud issues over the last few couple of years involving almost $10K in theft from my bank and credit cards, PayPal has become the best solution for us. Easy to use, easy to set up...just EASY all the way around!
Easiest way we've found to buy and sell things with minimal problems!!

Come to think of it, the Daewoo sign at that MB was around for a few years after the brand folded, too. I have to imagine MBUSA didn't know about this dual signage, as I can't imagine they'd be happy with it (tiny dealer though, maybe 3-5 cars at most in the showroom).

Government-managed care for all. Lots of potential issues - gross inefficiency and expense (it is the Feds after all), incomplete coverage, boostrapper types squawking about the evils of "socialism", and the most important bit, less windfalls for the insurance and pharma cabal, who spend untold sums on lobbying. Probably not going to come to the US in the next generation or two anyway, if ever.

I've never had an issue with paypal either, and I have sold hundreds of things on ebay.

I think the experience with single payer varies greatly between the countries that have it. You don't hear as much griping in many western countries about it as the special interests fill the media here. Don't know if it would work in the US or not, but I think the bigger issue is for Washington to take a back seat in these decisions and structures to the people on the front lines in medicine. Whatever outcome, let Congress lawyer it up and it will for sure be a disaster. Let the lobbyists tell congress the answer and it will be a disaster. A lot of this goes for tax reform too in my opinion at least.

Medicare basically works, but it has more than a few legislative quirks. For example, a doctor is somewhat limited in being free to order blood sugar levels, but this is the source of many medical issues in this country. Medicare will pay for short term nursing home rehab, but not allow payment if the patient elects a cheaper at home approach even if it is viable.

It clears the CEL, not turn it off. They all do it. Will just come back on if the problem has not been fixed, however.

I wonder how many people's first "new" car was their worst? Our '79 Ford Fiesta was just awful. Is it because we were poor and couldn't afford anything good? Or just new to the car game and didn't know how to choose well?
