Yes, first month and DMV fees.
If you roll the DMV fees into the payment, you just made them taxable, which they aren't, if paid upfront.

Would i be considered tier 1 credit w a score of 780 but never bought a car under my name?
780 is more than high enough for tier 1.
But, there is also an "auto enhanced" score that puts more weight on your auto loan history. That score might be lower because you don't have any history.
I have an lease offer 36 mos 10k annually from SoCal BMW Dealer 2018 330i MSRP $49645 discount $5145 to $44500 Gross Cap Cost. 61% Residual Value, .00152 MF, and Rebate $3000 Lease credit + $1500 Loyalty = $4500 Rebate Credit. My county tax rate is 7.75%. $0 down payment so the $2167 initial upfront is coming out from $4500. Acquisition Fee $925, other fee $80, Registration Fee $400 and first month is $474,34. Monthly payment is $474.34. 1) First question is this a good deal? 2) Dealer claim that $2167 is the total of (Acq Fee $925 + $80 other fee + $400 Registration Fee + $474.34 + Tax on the rebate). Is Tax on the rebate legal? 3) Do you know if the BMW FS accept full payment of the lease so that I don't have to pay the interest on MF?

10% off sticker price and base MF.
$0 cash due from you at signing, or just the first payment?
hi With your MSRP and net cap cost, I get $449/mo with tax included.
That's an $1800 difference in the cap cost to the dealer quote.
We'd suggest you restructure the deal to add the bank fee and the doc fee into the payment, to lower your up front cash.
The registration fee should be paid up front, as that is a non-taxable fee.
my mistake, apologies. monthly payment of 499 was a typo; it is 449/mo. I will edit my original post so that others don't use it as an inaccurate comparison. I will restructure the upfront cost as you suggested. would you consider this an okay/ good / very good deal? thanks again!

.00152 MF and 60%/58% residual
Are you negotiating with the NJ dealer? I'm guessing you'll have to go get it. BMWFS will assist the dealer on the correct tax treatment and registration.
Howdy~~ I have a question that I cannot find definitive answers by searching.
What is the tax rate in NY for a leasing car. For example, if the residual value is 20000 and the price after 7% MSRP and incentives is 40000, how much tax should I pay for the delta (40K-20K)? Some website says NY requires paying the lump sum of this delta upfront. When I search for the tax rate, many rates pop up without a clean answer.
A relevant question is that would the dealer violates any law if he/she makes up some number for the tax in my contract. For example, tax showed up in my contract = (real tax + extra fee).

Dealers won't make up a number for tax.
(Sum of the pre-tax lease payments + rebates + cash cap cost reductions) X tax rate.
It might not be that exactly, but it's pretty close.
Hi! I'm new to this forum and would love to know if I'm getting a good deal. The car I'm looking at is a 2018 320 xi. The dealership is in Syracuse, NY. I would be turning in my current lease 5 months early with very low miles (I only have 11,300 miles on my current 2015 320 xi).
MSRP is $42,895 10,000 miles per year 36 months $3000 Drive off 61% Residual Value mf .0019
incentives/rebates: $4,500 rebates/loyalty, an additional $1,510. And absorbing 2 extra payments from my current lease that total $687. So for a total $6,697.
There are actually 2 cars (same MSRP--$42,895) The first car they quoted me at $420 a month.
The second car has 1,500 miles on it because it's was a loaner car (but has same options and price as first). They quoted me at $409.67 a month for this one.
My question is: is this a good deal? Shouldn't they be able to take something off the MSRP (shouldn't they be able to take off 7%)? I do not put a lot of miles on my cars, is that factor?

So, other than the rebates that come from BMW, they are giving you about $2200 off. That's about 5%. We usually suggest shooting for 7% off, before incentives, but that's not terrible.
But, they are marking up the money factor from the base .00152 MF. On top of that, you are eating those two payments ($687).
So, a below average deal, and eating payments on the old lease. Why would you want to trade out early for that deal? Seems like a lot of money to only drive 400 miles per month.
This is an excellent forum. Thank you very much for the incredibly helpful information!
Could you please tell me what the MF and Residual is on a 2018 340i xDrive Sedan for 36 months / 12,000 miles?
I also have a 2015 335xi going in for lease-end (due in March/April) which is way under mileage, roughly 10,000 under. Can I use that to play significantly to my advantage with the new lease?
I remember 1% MSRP as the monthly payment is a very useful guiding metric to evaluate a deal.
Could you please clarify:
(1) is this MSRP before 7% discount or after? or even after incentives?
(2) in NY it seems that we have to pay a lump sum for the tax of the total leased value upfront. By saying that, is the monthly payment actually including tax or not? The answer is relevant when we want to use 1% rule to compare with the monthly payment.
Thanks for the unremitting efforts in answering all those questions in the forum~

.00152 MF and 60% residual $3000 lease credit $1500 loyalty
The only advantage to your low miles, is if the wholesale value of the car is greater than the lease payoff, and the dealer takes it in trade, then credits you with the equity.

1) 1% of MSRP is just a general guideline for a great lease deal. But, there has to be a great lease program in place for that to happen. It doesn't come along very often. And, it's 1% of MSRP. MSRP is a fixed number.
2) Let go of the 1% rule.. It's a general guideline to make you stop and think: How much am I really paying for this car. It's more important that you learn all of the numbers that go into a lease payment, and how to get the lowest payment possible.

Thanks man! So I checked and my current least is not due in until July 2018. I got an early email from my dealership, which threw me off a bit. Am I best off waiting till then (vs. an early lease turn in) and the 2019 models, or trying to get a steal on a late 2018 model? Regardless, maybe the residuals and MF will be better mid next year?
Hello, trying to look at my options as my first lease ends. I have 5 pymts left on my 2015 328i and will come in about 3000 miles under the 36k limit for my current lease. Car is in immaculate condition. I live near Dallas, TX.
Looking at 2018 340s. The ones I'm looking at sticker from 57-59K like this one https://goo.gl/1b6dzF
I have $4500 in end of year + loyalty credit. One dealer is mentioning something about tax credits they have, but I have no idea what that means.
Is it realistic to target the between $520-$560 as a new 3 yr 36k mile lease? Looking to do as little down as possible (Likely around $1-1.5k for first months payment and fees) due to advice I've seen on this forum (did about $2.5K down on first lease). With base MF of .00152 and 8-10% off, my calculator has me around $560.
Just trying to get advice on what to target. I'm lucky to have several dealers within 100 miles of me that I hope to be able to find a great deal at. Thanks for the advice and merry Christmas.

If you roll the DMV fees into the payment, you just made them taxable, which they aren't, if paid upfront.

The increase for a more expensive car will generally be a like percentage of the payment, all else being equal.
So, if the $40K MSRP vehicle is $500/mo, then the same model with an MSRP of $41K should be about $512.50/mo. (payment = $12.50 per thousand MSRP)
If the 40K MSRP vehicle was $600/mo, then $41K MSRP should be about $615/mo. (payment = $15 per thousand)

could I please have your thoughts on the following deal?
thanks so much in advance!
2018 330xi
36mo-12k/yr lease
msrp 52,595
selling price before incentives 47,006
gross cap cost 47,206 (200 reg fee added)
net cap cost 42,706 (after 4500 in rebates/credits)
drive-off: 1,861 (includes 449 first pmnt, 925 bmws fee, 395 doc fee, 83 tax on bank&doc fees, 9 title fee)
reg fee 200 (rolled into cap cost)
rebates 3000 holiday+1500 loyalty
mf 0.00152
residual 60%
monthly pmnt 449 (includes sales tax @ 6.25%)
That's an $1800 difference in the cap cost to the dealer quote.
We'd suggest you restructure the deal to add the bank fee and the doc fee into the payment, to lower your up front cash.
The registration fee should be paid up front, as that is a non-taxable fee.

Customer Rebate: - $4,500.00

How much discount percentage I should aim for before any incentive? Thanks!
What state is this, that the taxes are so high?
Also, I don't see reference to the $925 acquisition fee.

Thanks again!
Thanks very much!
(Sum of the pre-tax lease payments + rebates + cash cap cost reductions) X tax rate.
It might not be that exactly, but it's pretty close.

MSRP is $42,895
10,000 miles per year
36 months
$3000 Drive off
61% Residual Value
mf .0019
incentives/rebates: $4,500 rebates/loyalty, an additional $1,510. And absorbing 2 extra payments from my current lease that total $687. So for a total $6,697.
There are actually 2 cars (same MSRP--$42,895)
The first car they quoted me at $420 a month.
But, they are marking up the money factor from the base .00152 MF.
On top of that, you are eating those two payments ($687).
So, a below average deal, and eating payments on the old lease. Why would you want to trade out early for that deal? Seems like a lot of money to only drive 400 miles per month.

$3000 lease credit
$1500 loyalty
The only advantage to your low miles, is if the wholesale value of the car is greater than the lease payoff, and the dealer takes it in trade, then credits you with the equity.
