Wasn't bad at all. Cotter pin and a couple of washers to put the one back together. The other just needed to be slid back together. No clue how it would have come apart in the first place. Oh well.

Just think positive, imid and wife - I believe that has a lot to do with it. My dad had prostate cancer just before he hit 60 . He went in for a lot of treatment, and beat it - was cancer-free for 10 years. From day one he said he would beat it, and expressed no doubts in treatment. Sadly, like what abaco says, you never know what might happen in the future, and he was claimed by an aneurysm around age 70, came out of nowhere. All of this talk reinforces the idea of being sure to enjoy something today.

My mom has had to go in for some check ups and removals, I can't recall if it is ovarian or somewhere else in the body, but according to her, the doctors have been able to remove everything. Her results time was more like weeks than minutes, not sure what it is costing her, but she's said she can handle it. Turnaround times might vary between procedures. Some might be willing to trade slower analysis results for no risk of medical bankruptcy or having your savings destroyed over medical care, if all else really is equal.

It’s a riot. Basically, it’s an ADM, but the website template interface has only word “savings”, so they insert the marked up price and it shows up as negative savings. This dealer is not only arrogant (ADM), but also stupid.

For those with a metal thumb... and into appliance repair... there's a forum I've used through the years.
    https://www.applianceblog.com/
    https://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/

The forums are divided by type of appliance, then by brands. The people who help are real repairmen. They sometimes post service manuals and sometimes I've gotten videos on how to do certain things.

To post a question, they ask for $5 via paypal. Lifetime. I've donated twice because I've gotten so much help from my answers and answers when others with similar refrigerators got answers.

OH now I get it. I thought it was a dealer markup but I figured there was something else going on.

I've seen something similar on dealer websites where they show your "savings" over market price and occasionally their price is higher than market and they show negative savings.

How would this work? I put an ad in the newspaper for a Accent...low mileage, perfect condition, give a realistic price. I give a number to call.
I ask them a few questions and tell them if they are serious I will call them back with a time and place when they can see the car.
I let them know it is open bidding, and the first one to offer the closest price gets the car.
Then I meet say at a mall.
I can take a photo of their license if they go on a test drive.
Maybe make them sign an agreement that they are responsible if in an accident.
Will anyone show up? I don't know if I would, but, what does make me like the idea is if someone sells a car this way, it is probably a well looked after car. They'll think I am so OCD it has to be a good car.

I don't think you'd get anyone to sign such an agreement. What if your car had some unknown defect that caused an accident? The buyer would be open to all sorts of loss.

If you were worried you could make sure your (or your relative's) insurance covered test drives.
They would probably be covered by my insurance...I have to check their licence though I would think.
But, I assume, if they have an accident, my rates will go up.

A test driver having an accident is something that every car seller (including dealers) has to worry about. Few people will buy without a test drive though.

I was looking at Mustangs like mine on Autotrader and saw an ad which said specifically "no test drives" which was interesting. Wonder if he'll sell it.

When I sold my Mark VIII to a guy at work I took him out and at one point asked him if he wanted to take it out on the highway and open it up. He declined.

That's the kind of buyer you want.

Had some good laughs last week while driving to the Smokeys and Pigeon Forge, TN, for a brief getaway.
We planned it to miss spring break traffic. Southbound traffic was light midday Monday; return traffic northbound was excellent on Wednesday--few camping/Florida trailers being pulled by suvs or pickups and few semis. The combination leads to blocked lanes while the elephants try to pass each other at far below posted limits.

Kentucky must be full of really careful drivers who the transportation cabinet (dept) think are ultra careful.

I know a guy who came back from Florida last weekend on I-75. He said it was busy with lots of cars and lots of construction, especially Tennessee where they are making I-75 3 lanes from 2 as well. He had to drive until 1 a.m. both nights instead of until about 7 or 8 p.m.

I wish I was in Florida. Ice pellets and strong winds yesterday....500 car accidents in the Toronto area with not many people out driving. Today could be much worse, strong winds and freezing rain. That is worse because it clings to trees and power lines.

That reminds me of the time I was helping a friend check out an E24 6 Series; I popped the hood and saw a Ford starter solenoid had been bolted on to the inner fender well. I closed the hood and told my friend to forget the car.
Then there was the E36 3er I looked at that had the inner door panel secured with sheet metal screws. The idiot owner couldn't be bothered with buying a handful of OEM plastic securing clips.

Well if the price is right, these things are easily correctable. It's not like they are expensive exotics. Many E24 and E36 cars are very cheap to buy, so they fall into the hands of incompetent people. But of course, you don't want to buy a fright pig either.

Some cars have been so tormented you just can't make them right again.

Having a Ford part wouldn't bother me if it worked.

As for the door panel, it is quite possible the cardboard backing ripped, making stock clips useless. Either way, not a great thing to see on a not-so-old car.

In both cases it was a hack job that told me that the whoever "repaired" it was more concerned with saving money and convenience than repairing it properly.

In the case of the Ford solenoid the wiring harness would have to have been cut and spliced to remove the BMW solenoid from the starting circuit.
As for the door panel "fix," on an E36 the panel can be repaired to allow clips to be used.

And that's just what I could see; who knows what other shortcuts might have been perpetrated on the car?

Well that's true. I'd hate to see a 6 series coupe treated that way, but an old common 3 series car---I don't know--no harm done. It's neither collectible or rare.

Oddly enough, sometimes fixing it right doesn't cost that much. You can buy a replacement starter motor/solenoid for an old 3 series for $60 bucks.

The door panel hack job was probably done because the door panel material would no longer hold clips. Here again fixing it right would have been less trouble than drilling all those holes.

    Oh yeh, well how about this;

That is what happens when a shoemaker does plumbing work. The best way to fix that mess is with a match or a grenade.

    A book salesman actually!
I was going to say a shoemaking book salesman but I didn't want to lay it on too thick.

Probably not registered with BMW either! :s

Can't say as I have. I think the last exhaust pipe I had fixed was on a 67 Ford in about 1971. If I could fix it with beer cans I would have....couldn't really afford getting it done at the garage.

Back in the '60s I remember my brother and his buddy fixing the exhaust pipe of the buddy's Austin Healey 3000 with a tomato paste can. :s

Haven't been outside for 2 full days now. Frozen pellets this afternoon, freezing rain this evening. Temperature is going up, and the freezing rain will change into regular rain....lots of regular rain.
