I would not get made at the dealer. They gave you a number based on a description which sounds like you told them it was basically clean and ready to go. And that the # was subject to adjustment for problems they did not know about. So seems more than fair to me.
Stick, it probably is a fair price. My brother said he paid $4000 difference between his 10 year old Civic and the Accent, but, got mixed up. By accident we came across his invoice yesterday....he paid $17000 for the Accent, and he got $4000 for his trade in.

The dealer said $6000, but if you subtract tires, the ding on the side and the bumper, wheel disc and wheel, the fact it was in two damaging accidents.......I think at least $4500 would make sense, but, my brother can't handle the tension. I guess the dealer doesn't have much choice but to give you an offer that gets you in the door, or we wouldn't have gone. When I walked out I didn't know about some of the damage...like the marks and scratches from the brick....so, $4000 isn't unreasonable....and 6 years of driving for $12000 is about as good as it gets.

It was particularly upsetting, that the sales rep told me $6000 on the phone, and then when the manager said $4000, the salesman said "I did tell you it would be between $5000 and $6000, take off the repairs it needs". He never mentioned $5000 on the phone.

Sleazy also making us go back....we can't write a check because it is the end of the month....is this a Mickey Mouse dealership?
Yesterday we delivered some cars to a Ford dealer. Our paperwork said "collect check". Manager said he didn't have one because it was the end of the month. Must be something about the bookkeeping. Maybe payments at the end of the month detract from bonus calculations or something. Just like dealers like to book sales BEFORE the end of the month perhaps they like to book purchases AFTER the beginning of the next month.

OF, I think that is what happens. Bonus's are probably paid on total billings for the month. Because of dealers simplistic accounting and bonus plans, they probably just count total gross dollars for the month to pay out Bonus's. That is what I call really stupid, aggravate customers like me, suppliers like your employer, because of their hare brained bonus system.

What are 5 questions you would like to ask a traffic police officer about his work?

Why don’t you ticket the more hazardous drivers on the roadway such as left lane campers/traffic impeders in the passing lane?
Why the excessive and obsessive attention to “speed” when numerous studies show that it isn’t a causal factor in collisions and fatalities?
Are you satisfied with the results of the US Law Enforcement effort as we have double the collision and fatality rates of Countries like Germany?
How would you feel if your pay was tied to performance (i.e. reducing fatalities and collision rates), rather than on how many tickets you write?
Why do you give off the impression of laziness every time someone needs an accident report or hit & run investigation?

The local tv had a story yesterday, obviously promoted by the state, advocating for the jailing of people caught driving with multiple suspensions. They glossed over that most of the original suspensions were for failure to pay fines the driver couldn't afford.

One thing the state never considers with revenue generation by fines is that it can send people with marginal incomes into an ever worsening death spiral of fine upon fine upon fine from which they can never recover.

On some roads in my area, the left lane car would have been going 55 in a 65 and being passed by the truck

A C280 would be a 90s car or I think a 2006-2007 car. The latter can be fairly fast - governed at 130 mph for the US market, but de-governed, I suspect they are good for 150-160 at least.

The solution for people with marginal incomes seems to me to be extra careful and vigilant so they don't get any traffic tickets or fines. To not give any type of punishment just because someone can't afford the fine sends the wrong message and you will get more and more people ignoring tickets if they know they will not get punished.

It’s been almost 30 years since I stepped into snow or drove in snow. “Currier And Ives” knew exactly what to do with that phenomenon - depict snow in gorgeous winter scenes. That’s as close to the white puffy stuff I want to get - from a distance it’s beautiful - but living in it is a nightmare.

While I was waiting for the guy to get back to me so that I got my facts straight, you scooped me. But it doesn't always work the first time.

About 6 years ago a fellow employee was a member of the town council where he lived and he said they put a woman in the slammer for refusing to pay traffic fines. Of course the bleeding media had to get involved because this made for a good story on the 6 and 11 o'clock news. But as usual the media conveniently didn't tell the whole story. Just told that she was jailed for not paying parking tickets. It turns out the woman was a resident of this borough and got 6 parking tickets of $20 each that she did not pay over a period of about 18 months. When they finally hauled her into court she said she could not afford to pay for them. The borough magistrate ordered her to pay 10 hours of community service as payment for the tickets and she was given two Saturdays to do this service of picking up trash at one of the borough parks. She never appeared for either of those Saturdays so the borough sent her two registered letters, which she signed for, that told her if she didn't appear for community service she would be jailed. She ignored both of those letters and was subsequently jailed for one night before a family member paid her parking fines and fees. She was then released.

That's when the TV station hyped this horrifying incident. And the borough got a black eye because of it. The borough then got the file on this woman which showed how they went out of their way to accommodate this deadbeat and wanted equal time on TV to give their side of what happened. The TV station refused to do it citing it was old news (this was about 6 days after the TV aired the original story). The borough went to the other TV stations and they would not touch this as a news story, citing they did not do the original story so it was not their responsibility to put it on their stations. I guess you can call this peas of a pod or something like that.

The only way the borough got their side of the story told was via a small weekly newspaper in an adjoining community. But a lot of damage was done to this borough by the much larger audience of the TV media.

This all ended by the woman finally agreeing to do 12 hours of community service. Before the magistrate allowed the woman to leave the court room she had to sign several documents acknowledging that she was aware of what the consequences would be if she didn't show up the following Saturday. When asked by the magistrate if she understood she said, "yeah, but I don't appreciate being an unpaid janitor for the borough". The magistrate responded with something like, "I hope you'll be a good one nonetheless".

It took a couple tries but it finally worked.

Have a question, not quite sure where to post this. I bought a 2016 Audi last week after about a week back-and-forth emailing with the salesman (I was out of town at the time and couldn't come in until the day I did). After a good test drive and discussion with my husband, we went ahead and bought it. Pretty smooth process. I thought the salesman explained most of the features pretty well, although there were some things he didn't know, like how to adjust the power headrests. (Controls are on the side of the seats, it turns out.)

So now he has contacted us again, and he wants to come over on Friday evening "to explain more about the car." At first I said "sure, that's fine" but now a little ding-ding-ding is going off in my head. Why would he want to come to my home on a Friday evening to explain a car's features even more?

Is this a usual thing when buying a (used) luxury car, that the salesman would make a house call? His dealership is about 40 - 45 minutes away, but apparently he lives closer to us than that, so he wants to come over after his workday at the dealership.

Is this normal or is this weird?

Yes, it does seem a little weird to me, too. If you're both going to be there, and you want more explained, then fine, but, if he didn't seem all that knowledgeable the first time around, is he really going to help you through anything that you cannot just read in the manual or online?

You could also agree to meet a local public place (parking lot of Wal-Mart, etc.) instead of at your home, if you feel more comfortable with that.

Minor brouhaha in the press locally as the constabulary has reportedly issued hundreds of tickets to people panhandling in traffic at backed-up intersections. I was unaware of this happening as for the last 10 years or so this has become a thing to do here, starting with squeegee kids and then later on people with paper cups working the lanes at said intersections. One of the first was an enterprising young lady who often wore designer-label clothes and sneakers and was seldom seen without a cigarette in hand as she worked the busiest corner in town with a small sign stating she needed the money for university. Maybe it was even true, who knows. In any event I suspect those tickets are largely ceremonial and will never be paid.

Biancar, My guess is that this is an eager young salesman learning the trade, and he wants to get a good review and show his boss how helpful he is. I would decline, as swesx says, if he didn't know where the headrest button is, he isn't going to know too much more.
I would make a list of things you would like to know, and then make an appointment to see him - at least there will be technicians around to help answer questions. Maybe email him the questions ahead of time.

*When I bought my 2015 car the dealer was rushed and they didn't download the GPS information. The salesman offered to come to the house to do it since it was their fault. It was OK but I drive by there all the time so I brought the car to them.

Today we take the 2012 Accent back to pick up our check for $4000. Hope they don't try to reduce it, my brother will take any amount, he can't handle it. If they offered less I would drive it across the street to the Chrysler dealer......at that point I would take it somewhere else just out of spite.

I know the car isn't worth $6000, and it had a few accidents I didn't know about when we set the price. But, the reality is they give you the highest price possible....$6000, just to get you to come in, then they walk around the car showing you every flaw so you think it is reasonable. It isn't a new model so of course it won't be perfect, but if they give me $4000 they can put $1000 into it and they will put it on the lot for $8000 hope to get $7000 to $8000.

I might sell it to oldfarmer for $4000....if that was U.S. dollars!

I wonder too, they say it needs tires and a few dents dinged out. They, of course say they pay the same as I do for those things. My guess is that is an accounting detail....maybe in the books it appears that way, but if they put new tires on it and say they retail for $600 for 4, how much did they pay for the tires....$400? Used car department may get charged $600, but the dealer really paid $400!

I may put a hex on this dealership - remember, I always get my revenge.

Don't forget, my next door neighbor who cut down the 5 40 foot trees. Didn't talk to him for 4 years. Then he got fired from his $200k a year job and moved to the West Coast. I may tell the sales manager what I did to that guy :@

Thanks for the comments, guys. I agree with driver100 re eager young thing starting out and impressing us and the boss with how helpful he is. He's been in the business about two years, with this dealership a little over one.

He was super at actually finding the car. I email blasted all the Audi dealers around a three-state area who were less than 200 miles away describing what I wanted, and he was the only one who found exactly the right color, right options plus one I had only hoped for, one year newer than I would have taken, low mileage, everything just right. It's not that I have suspicions about him as an individual, just wondered if this was a common thing for high-end cars.

Only thing I have questions about is the media system. Do I have to buy an Audi-brand SD card, or will anything work? Manual is explicit about the SIM card but the other two I'm guessing anything.

Other than that, the manual is pretty good.

I was just reading current offers from the telecoms. Seems like their marketing departments were overrun with executives from car dealers. Same BS blowing smoke, just like in the car ads from my local Dodge dealer. My personal favorite is "Save $X on Whatever Superphone", which of course it turns to be a simple trade-in offer on the phone at barely (or sometimes below) market value of the device. It's essentially a variation on "YOU PAY X" ad with fine print that that states 3 grand cash or trade down required. So essentially the barter value of the traded good is not considered payment according to those yahoos. Some bargain :@. I find it truly disturbing how many ignorant people we must have in this world that this kind of advertising is attempted and might actually work. Sadly it probably does.

I always say there are industries, which main effort is to make the product better and sell you on that improvement - other put their main effort into obscuring the price, making you believe it's cheaper than it really is, even if just for that minute you're signing the contract.
