~3.5 hours left on the Integra auction and it's currently sitting at $3,500. I have the wife's blessing and found a decently priced one way flight to Charlottesville via PHL. I wouldn't be surprised to see a flurry of activity closer to end time but there's a fair amount of corrosion on the rims and some of the body mishaps aren't surface scratches either so maybe it comes in lower than what I expect.

    Should I do this?

    YES!
At that price, it sounds okay to pull the trigger. Just don't get into a last minute bidding war.

Usually the seller will mention when the price gets above reserve in the comments of a BaT auction to stir up activity. YMMV, though.

on that BMW Coupe, I am fine without the HIDs. Those are really expensive to deal with if they go bad. My TL had one go wonky (it occasionally went out for a while then came back). Price to fix, ouch. On something that old I am fine with just buying a really good set of bulbs.

Wow.. look at that red leather!

Sport package is nice, but no HIDs is a bummer in a 3-Series with that option level.

But would you really kick a good deal just because of HIDs?
    It's a negative. That's my entire point.

My car is 12 years old. No issues.
Wife has had HIDs for the last 15 years in various vehicles. Never had a repair.

Though, I'll grant that the car in question is older than that.

Ironically, older Acuras and Nissans have the worst reputation for HID repair/reliability.

no sale RNM at $5,900. More than I would have paid anyway.

good luck to the seller, I think he might have missed a deal he should have taken.

In Southern CA since there is no weather other than sunshine, just avoid driving at night and it becomes a non-issue.

My E39 540i had the level adjusters break (common problem on those, cheap but labor intensive DIY fix), then one of the ballasts caught fire. Fun stuff! The VW GLI’s HIDs performed well.

Yeah, I know nice ones of those bring insane money for what they are, but that one looked to be just on the verge of being an old used car for me. Filthy engine bay, lots of dings and marks on the body, parts of the interior looked toasty, wheels badly in need of a refinish. Would take a few thou for it to become something you'd be proud of.

All of those are reasons why I think it went for less than others have recently gone on BaT. However I was okay with all of that for the right price.

I think the seller is going to have a hard time getting more than what it was auctioned for.

That's a nice car. If it were a different color--that's the way you want to buy them. I can't abide black. Never owned a black car in my life, near as I can recall.

I missed a really nice car just last week. It was gone in a flash. It went to Texas, which rubs salt in the wound. :p

Too bad it's not really for sale, at that price. He says "9 out of 10". For this money, it has to be concours, as in "right out the BMW box it came in".

    $29K--$32K if it's magnificent, IMHO.

@28firefighter - looks great!  I’m glad it drives nicely!  Enjoy!  Like I said, I liked my “base” 9-3 Automatic a lot, so I’m sure with a bunch of extra hp (250? 255?) and a stick you will love it!
