Did the bottom of the tank pop back into place when the tank was opened?
No, it didn't but you should have heard the sigh of relief when I took the cap off! All I can say is that must have been one hell of a powerful fuel pump to suck that tank up like that. I went to a junkyard looking for a tank and they had just taken in a NICE looking 1951 Chevy. The guy told me ten bucks for the tank. He then proceeded to take a FORK LIFT to that nice looking Chevy. He flipped it up on one side which, of course dented in the doors and fenders (that had been nice). This made it easier to remove the old tank! He was able to just stand there and unbolt it instead of crawling under the car!
Just curious if anyone out there has any recommendation on Collector Car Insurance? The 450 SLC is likely to go maybe 2000 miles a year if that. State Farm offers no break unless I pay some idiot company 400.00 for an appraisal and I'm not impressed with the answers i'm getting from Haggerty. Anyone? Shifty?
For the Mercedes it's like twice that much. So close to what State Farm wants to simply add it without restrictions that it's not really worth the savings. At least with SF I know exactly who I'm dealing with and what to expect. Besides Hagerty got a bit snarky with me on the phone and I didn't need that either. Have you ever had a claim or a reason to "need" them for anything?
OK, Fin Hagerty owes you a Bird Dog fee. Went with Hagerty!
I finally decided to go the old fashioned route and I actually got on the phone and I CALLED them.
Talked to a friendly guy named Kyle who quickly answered my questions and put my mind at ease. 244 dollars a year with a lot of leeway and good coverage including zero deductible for collision and comp. I wanted 500.00 ded. but for 12.00 a year more it would be zero. A no brainer.
Anyway, thanks! That was the info I was looking for!
Are you giving it a value over 10K? I think I did all mine online or over email. I renew online. I just had to send a few pics of the car, and as it is so photogenic, they didn't question the stated value (which is under 10K anyway)
I had to file a towing request through them a few years ago - no issues. Well, the first tow company never showed (not Hagerty's fault, just a disorganized company), but the second was there in ~30 minutes. No problems.

Posting this from a CICU unit hospital bed after getting my aortic valve replaced today. Went well apparently and everything seems to work. Lots of tubes in me tonight but most are supposed to come out tomorrow when they move me to a regular unit. Feels fine to me. Might get out on the weekend!
Look up dedication in the dictionary and your pic is next to it?

I found Haggerty to be a royal PITA. Ended up paying twice as much for regular insurance but couldn't tolerate their nonsense.

AB....glad to hear everything went well. Now, take it easy and do what your Docs say.
Just heard Anthony Bourdain committed suicide. I LOVED his books and his TV shows. There was always a bit of “on tilt” in his personality. A few years ago, he did a show in the Orient (can’t remember the country) where he said he had to revisit as it was part of his darkest days mentally and he had to exorcise himself from that period.
His death doesn’t surprise me, but it does sadden me.
I just heard that too. But I have to say either I am out of the loop or I have widely different priorities but this is the second big name suicide where I have to ask "who is this guy?"
more than half the time some big name celebrity gets in the news I swear I have never heard of them before.
I usually hit Costco on Friday night (avoid weekend), it's on my way home nightly. Currently PUG is .10-.16/gallon cheaper than my other two "low priced" stations on my commute route, and I don't think either of those is top tier gas. Not too long ago, the spread was .20-.26/gallon!
And, yes, I hotdog/pizza (and free sample, if available!) at Costco Friday night before shopping. Sometimes the best pleasures in life are the simplest.
Do you take your wife to Costco for Friday night dinner? The perogies make for a nice meal out.
Just filled up at Costco - $3.19.9 a gallon for Premium. That’s 15 cents a gallon less than any competing gas stations in my area + it’s TopTier gasoline. Took 15 gallons.
It would appear that the upward pressure on gasline prices these past few months has, for the time being, eased. $319.9 is what I paid 2 weeks ago.
So Mike, what do you intend to do with that $2.25? Invest, or just take a cruise or something?
Not to mention.....waiting in line at Costco, taking your life in your hands as you cross the Costco parking lot, driving one gallons worth of gas out of the way.....save $2.25 but spend another $3.19 to do it.
I only go to Costco early in the morning before the store opens and only if I am headed in that direction. This morning, I was on my way to I-95 and there was no waiting for a pump. I don’t go out of my way to buy gas for 10-20 cents a gallon.
It must be nice to be able to do that but I'd go out of my way to buy gas for 10-20 cents a gallon.
jmonroe
You aren't on here until sometime in the afternoon....no way are you going to Costco early in the morning....even if gas is 20 cents a gallon!
Some things are more important than others. If gas was 20 to 30 cents cheaper at 2:30 AM, I'd gladly send Mrs. j out for a fill-up.
jmonroe
Sure. You wish, That move could cost you a new dining room suite.
I won that dining room suite battle a few years ago. Now, waking her up for a wee hours in the morning gas run will certainly keep my rope-a-dope maneuver current.

Stated value is 15,000. No photos were asked for, no appraisals, no credit checks. EZ peasy.
I didn't need any towing or roadside service. I've had AAA since I was in high school and that's been a couple of years now!
A new Maibu with 1 mile for $17,500 seems like a good deal for a basic car. Then you read to the last line and you see the real discount is tied to some lease loyalty reward which excludes 90% of possible buyers. Everybody else pays $2,000 more.
Real turn off to the dealer and the brand.

I'd like to get Classic Car insurance for the Viggen because (1) it is cheaper, and (2) they will do declared value. The barrier I'm running into is that most seem to require I have a primary vehicle. I don't drive many miles (~5000 a year) and work from home, so no need for a "primary" car.
Yep, you need a primary vehicle, you need to garage it, and you may need to limit the miles you drive it.

Yes, that is true. But doesn't your wife have one? I'm trying to remember how diligent they are. I seem to remember them stating something about a primary for each driver in the house but I'm not sure. In any case, I tend to doubt they'll give you classic insurance on that. It is not collectible nor old enough.
16 years old - definitely old enough it seems from talking to them. They're willing to let me do declared value for $10,000 on it.
That would be news to me on both fronts---1) that they'd insure a 2002 Saab, and 2) that they'd give you $10K for it.
But hey, if they go for it and you have it in writing, good for you!
And absolutely you are required to have a primary vehicle with primary use insurance attached to it, and your Hagerty vehicle will be restriced to "occasional use".
I personally don't really see the reasoning for putting the restrictions of classic car insurance on this car.
BTW, ---They may also ask you for an appraisal before they write you up.
I spoke to Hagerty and American Collector’s and they were both willing to do a stated value of $10k with 5,000 miles per year of driving. The primary vehicle thing killed it.
So, I have full coverage on it under our normal policy.

When I see this "Exp. 07/02/2018, $2,000 - GM Lease Loyalty Towards Purchase Private Offer. Exp. 07/02/2018" I say to myself.........There is no way I will pay $2000 more than some other customer....because I am switching rather than coming back. In fact, I think I should get a $3000 discount for switching - that is harder to do. Getting a customer to return should be easier than getting a new customer....unless people don't come back for another Malibu, in which case, that raises some more red flags.
Ab, I was in ICU for 3 days then was put on a regular floor. Ended up falling after a couple of nights so they moved me across from the nurses station since I was a fall risk. Spent 2 weeks in the hospital and needed a walker to go to the bathroom and I went like every hour on the hour! All those damn i. v.'s were making me have to go all the time. Since I wouldn't use anything else but the toilet, someone had to accompany me and the wires connected to me. Think they were happy to see me leave to be honest. The rehab they sent me to was so horrible, I lasted just 2 nights and then went home. Best thing I could've done also. Supposed to return to work today but the vertigo came back on Wednesday so called up and postponed it till Monday, the original day I wanted to go back. Basically took me 45 days from when I went into the hospital to get back to my normality and return to any kind of work. Personally, I'd be happy to retire for good again but the wife has other ideas so will do it a year or two more. Word of advice, don't push yourself, your body will let you know when you can start doing things again. I listened, and glad I did as I wasn't ready to drive much today!

Oh, ok, "stated value". That's not the same as "agreed upon value". In "stated value", the operative language is "we will pay you UP TO the stated value". So in other words, they can dispute the $10K.
These terms are legally precise, so if they told you "stated value", that's what it means.
In any event, you're covered, it's covered, so that's good.
I thought you were independent money? With your injury history, and collecting a pension already, if you are suffering physically, don't work. Not her call. If she wants more money that bad, take on some extra work.
Not bad, technically paying less than me. I assume you paid less than that As my car is likely not in as good condition, and I drive it somewhat hard sometimes and take it on the road, I wanted peace of mind. AAA might be a better option, never had it.

Sandy, it sounds like you are definitely not ready yet to drive with that pesky vertigo coming and going. Don’t put your life in jeopardy by going back to work too early. You are doing the right thing - but don’t let anyone pressure you to go back to work until YOU feel you are ready.
Still in ICU and getting bored because they are keeping me in bed as part of their protocol. I want to try walking around a bit. Meanwhile I am plotting my escape.
Regarding Bourdain, it was surprising but not shocking. He had a bit of a darkness to him, at least I saw it, so who knows what can trigger that. Unfortunate though, not just for the loss of a talented storyteller and chef but for all those he leaves behind.

Imid, I never knew you were a fashion mogul - the things you learn here on Edmunds.
Edmunds asked me to submit an update on my experiences with the S Class the other day. So I sat down for about 30 minutes and then submitted the updated review. 2 days later they sent me an email stating I needed to post it myself - that updates are the responsibility of the initial reviewer.
Hmmm, make a request and then throw it back. Great response.
I thought of many 4-letter words I could have used in my response to them to show my indignity - but I decided to just drop the matter and not respond or even post the update. I’m doing them a favor that helps them - not me. If I am going to spend 30 minutes doing Edmunds a favor, an email “back in your face” response ends my contributions to that department forever!

In college we had Wednesday afternoon coffees with various folks from the University to broaden our perspectives.
One was a clinical psychologist who said that many people live their lives under a dark cloud. To us eager, invincible freshmen that didn't register much unless we were one of those people with the cloud.
The flip side of that coin are people like Charles Krauthammer. Totally paralyzed in the prime of life and went on to finish med school and become very successful. He beat cancer at one time, but now it has come back and he is still fighting. A brilliant intellect and so mentally strong it is unbelievable.

Charles Krauthammer is my hero! He will be sorely missed by so many. They say he has only 2-3 weeks left to his life - what a shame to lose an intellect like Charles - but I am grateful for the time and the insight insight he has shared with our country. A left wing democrat who turned to conservatism and became a Pulitzer Prize winner - not to mention an MD from Harvard after becoming paralyzed.
Great! Don't forget to take that tube out of your neck.
They took that out yesterday - a central line installed into the jugular! I was under anaesthesia when they installed it. The thing seemed to be about a foot long, felt weird to feel it move inside there when they pulled it out.
I saw this while I was having new rotors and pads installed on the Pilot. I remember these when they were new and they didn't seem so small! I'm not tall 5'8" and I tower over it.
