Whoa, Karen, I'd tuned out the sidebar; thanks for pointing that out. It blends into the background because the typeface is a tad small (taking tips from SoA, I see ;) ) Cool feature but since it's updated manually, sounds like a bit of work for you. We appreciate it!

IMO a more helpful URL for the Rendezvous is
    http://www.acanet.org/acanet.htm or
    http://www.acanet.org/SOR.htm

    Just my USD 0.02.

I guess I've been too impatient to let the Subaru flash stuff load up on my meager 56k dial-up connection.

Mike(miksmi): Thanks for the heads up about the Outback rendezvous. I'll start working on the family for the NY location..I might have a way of going as my wife's sister just moved to Utica :)

Thanks for those URLs! I've edited the Rendezvous link.

Yes, it is a bit more work, but hey...it keeps me off the streets. :-)

Heh, the site won't load on my browser at all. Says I'm not Flash enabled, even though I sure as hell am....every other flash site works...and there is no non-flash version to go to. Patti, Puleeeze pull the plug on that thing!

Miksmi, glad to see you are back in the html saddle there, buddy!

Rallycross in Orange VA on 9/16, so I might as well make it a subie weekend and head to Reston the day before!

The number of html links has at least tripled since Mike S. rejoined the fold!

Let me know if you go to the utica one. That's about 30 miles from my place up there and I'd probably show if I'm in the area.

hehe, Frank. You're welcome Brian, Mark, and Karen. You guys know you need my HTML diversions. Thanks Loosh, welcome back, bud. I'm still catching up on the other Crew topics (some have over 800 posts and yes I'm going to read each one).

So let's see so far we have:

Patti- Yes, possibly with a VDC?
Juice- 50/50 depending on if he can convince the wife to go to CT

Anyone else going to come down and show up the Isuzus?

As soon as I know one way or the other I'll let you know. It looks like it is about an hour north of Utica; maybe less at paisan speed:)

Mike - if you read them all, you'll be gone for another month! ;-)

mike - (lower case = paisan) my idea may have backfired. Instead of going up there, her brother and his wife (the pregnant one) may come down here, instead.

Ah, the freedom of being a single with a real income. I've dated since college so I never really had both (time and money). Still, I wouldn't trade the world for a day of fun with my little baby girl.

I mean, they'll be busy with your wife and daughter...so you *could* come :) [twists his arm harder and harder] If not then you guys should plan on making Oct with us.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
You gotta love an optimist. You should go into sales.

The wife is talking about hitting the beach now that we have an excuse to go (guests). Still not sure on the timing of their trip, though. Remember - October is the baby's due date.

It would be a fun getaway. I've never really tested Sandy's limits.

Oh, not us, at least not to my knowledge. Though I'm always the last to find out!

It's her brother and his wife (so we may be in CT in October).

it's almost exactly like mine. It has 7k fewer miles, but is an auto (mine's a stick). Makes you wonder what's "wrong" with it. I will say the bids have been coming in over the last hour or so. There's only 2 1/2 hours remaining. Go see what you think.

If I had the 4500 I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I have 3 cars already and need to start saving for my aunt's SVX :) Also If I could sell my MX6 on a dime, I'd probably buy that one also.

Wow, looks like somone steam cleaned that engine compartment! I wish mine was that clean.

I thought they didn't have to use automatic seatbelts if there were airbags (albeit just one on the driver's side).

I think they had motorized mice for a while, and as they phased in air bags it overlapped with the mice.

The first year Altima was the same way, in 1993.

Like juice said, NC is too far for us married folks. Maybe I could work it out though. Taking a vacation soon and need to do a few home repairs. Maybe I need a second job as a Subaru salesman for extra cash.

mike - I have the bush pinstripes down the side of my car too. I'm dreading trying to buff them out. Maybe I'll just get a detail.
Most of the mud holes had by-passes. You Trooper guys chose to barrel right through it. :-)

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The Forester is pretty narrow, so you go first to clear the way in the Trooper, then I'll follow. ;-)

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Well, I didn't barrel down anything :) I learned my lesson the first time in the pine barrens watching others lose their engines. Well you could make it a family affair, the campground was pretty cool, and Lake Baden is right there next to the campground as well.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Camping is a bit too "roughing it" for the wife. I think even a Motel 6 is, to be honest.

We should do something else a little closer to home, though. I don't want to wait til October and then have to drive 7 hours.

I gotta talk to Gary. One idea I had was to drive to Delaware, and then do the Cape May-Lewis Ferry down into Maryland with all the cars. Talk about a photo op.

You end up at the beach, and there are outlets, hotels, food, etc.

Sept 15/16 there is no auto-x or ralleying for me so that looks good. Maybe we'll try to get a Pine Barrens run in that weekend if anyone is interested.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Let's see, we'll be in Ocean City from August 4-11, and the Sade concert is on the 24th IIRC. Then we're hitting the OBX again from Sept. 1-8. I know, we're beach people.

    So the 15th may work.

Let me know if you're going to autocross (or especially rally) anywhere nearby. It's probably easier for me to do something like that for a day. I really want to check one out before I try it myself anyway.

Here's my Schedule for the rest of the summer/fall:

Aug 4: NNJ Auto-x in Englishtown, NJ
    Aug 5: NASA Auto-x @ Giant's Stadium
    Aug 12: Mo-Hud Auto-x @ Albany
Aug 17-18: Road Ralley in Cromwell CT.
Aug 19: Possibly Phax Auto-x @ Boeing in Philly
    Sept 26: CNY Auto-x @ Rome, NY
Sept 9: CNY Auto-x @ Shoppingtown Mall (central NYS)
    Sept 22: Mo-Hud Auto-x @ Albany
    Oct 5-7: Uwharrie Off-road Trip
    Oct 14: NYR Auto-x @ Nassau Col.
    Oct 20: NNJ Auto-x @ E-Town
    Oct 21: SJR Auto-x @ Camden
    Oct 27: NNJ Auto-x @ E-town
    Oct 28: Phax Auto-x @ Camden
    Nov 3: NNJ Auto-x@ E-town
    Nov 4: SJR Autp-x @ Camden
Nov 10: NNJ Road Rally @ Pine Barrens Express
    Nov 17: NNJ Auto-x @ E-town

I may just setup a Pine Barrens run combined with an Isuzu meet combined with a subaru meet for Saturday Sept 15 or Sunday Sept 16th. Nice thing about that is Pine Barrens is near Philly, so if you guys from MD come up you can stay in or near philly where there is tons of family stuff to do. Let me know if you are interested and if so, how much interest, and we'll work something out.

We gotta think like my wife.

PA. Redding. Outlet shopping. Bingo! We could aim for something like that.

Is Pine Barrens close to Redding at all?

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Reading is further West than philly. I'll see what I can dig up for outlets in the Pine Barrens area. I'm sure Patti will come to this one as well, since it's like in her backyard!

Hey, we're beach people too. Heading to my hometown of Myrtle Beach on Aug. 4. We return on the 12th or 13th and then go to Cape May for four days. I'll just miss you since you'll be in nearby O.C. IIRC, the ferry is around $25 or so per car and then a passenger charge. There was actually an i-club meet in Cape May last winter
with about 25 Subes. Talk about a sight. We even had a police "escort" (must've been the rice invasion). Then a Park Ranger proceeded to kick us out of Cape May Lighthouse Park because he thought we were going to bbq and hang for the day (need a permit for a large group). One of the i-clubbers had a brother that worked with him so we stayed.

mike, there's actually a more open area that I've been to in the Pine Barrens. It also has a lake. Lots of bumps and lots of dirt bikers. I don't think I got any scratches there. My wife kinda freaked out because you go up a hill and on the other side is a huge open pit that looks like an alien landing strip. It looked creepy at first.

Oh yeah, the closest outlets to the Pine Barrens are the Six Flags outlets. Would you catch me within a 30 mile radius on a summer day? Um, no.:-)
Fortunately my wife doesn't gets too shopper crazy and enjoys roughing it once in a while (mother of two girl scouts).

Looking for Pine Barren Info, I found this http://www.sjunpaved.com/ maybe Dennis and I can do a pre-run on a weekday evening this summer, or a quick afternoon, and map out a good course on the GPS for it. Let me know if you'd be interested in helping me organize it Blue.

If you folks are looking for outlets in the philly area there is always Franklin Mills. I don't know how far that is from Pine Barrens, but I'm sure that it is closer than Reading. If I remember right there are a ton of motels in the area as well.

Ok folks, I'm grabbing the bull by the horns on this one. I'm gonna organize the first SIA Pine Barrens Trail Ride!

    Date: Sept 15th
Place: Pine Barrens Area of NJ
Event: Trail Ride, picnic lunch, Trail Ride, Dinner
Who: Subarus and Isuzus from all over.
Rating: Stock Foresters, Outbacks, Outback Sports, Axioms, Troopers, Rodeos, Amigos, VXs, Heck even Legacies if you are adventurous, and Imprezas.

Basically it's gonna be a relatively easy trail ride, if there are any major obstacles, we'll make sure there is a by-pass available. I'm gonna pre-run the trails the weekend before just to verify that they are not too hard. Items to bring?

Tow strap (not with metal hooks, just a strap)
    Water for Drinking
CB Radio and/or FRS (We'll be using the CB band, but hopefully someone will bring FRSs so we can co-broadcast)

I'll try to get more details together, along with "other stuff to do in the area" for those who have families that aren't up for the trail ride. We can also arrange for people who don't want to take their cars on the trail to ride along with others as well.

Any other info suggestions etc. let me know, I'm open to a lot of stuff.

OK, the wife was trying to make plans to hit Sesame Place that day, but I'm trying to overrule that. Sounds like a lot of fun.

She's checking now to see if friends that were going with us have reserved hotels and such. I'll get back to you in a bit.

I may check a map. If it's reasonably close, I could drop her off and go to Pine Barrens. She wanted to spend two days at Sesame Place anyway, so I could join the family on Sunday.

    Mike,

Sounds like fun. I'll know by the beginning of next week if I'm available, as I might have a mini high school reunion/BBQ to go to. I'll see if I can get my nephew to join me. How long a day do you think it will be? Also, silly question- how long a ride is it down there?

    Mark
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Juice: Cool, Ses. Place is probably less than 1hr from there, relatively close

Bat: About 1:15, 1:20 from SI.

The Pine Barrens are about 15-20 minutes from Philadelphia toward Atlantic City.

  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
I'll have to check with my schedule maker (wife). I don't recall any plans in September so most likely I can make it. I have a little battery-operated hedge trimmer. Should I bring it to widen the trails? :-)

    Other things in the area:

Probably meet @ 9:30, first trail ride 10am, lunch around 1pm-2pm, and dinner around 5pm.

Hedge trimmer would be cool, just in case.

juice: There are 3 hotels within a short walk of Sesame Place: the Sheraton Bucks County, a Red Roof Inn, and a McIntosh Inn. A Hampton Inn recently opened off I-95 just about 3 miles north of Sesame Place.

Dennis, mike: Yeah, hedge trimmers would be good. I have a hard enough time getting swirl marks out of this black Subaru paint, much less gouges. 'Course I could take the grille back out and "make it look mean" (movie line, anyone?).

General note: Cell phones frequently do not work in the Pine Barrens. Imagine my surprise driving along near Chatsworth, in the middle of the megalopolis, and seeing the "No service" message.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The wife says she's rather not combine the two events (Sesame Place and Pine Barrens), because she can't handle the "Toddler of Terror" by herself unless she's at home, so we're trying to reschedule Sesame Place with our friends.

The good news is that I'm free for a day to go, as long as we can work out the scheduling.

If our friends can't reschedule, is the date set in stone? What about 8/18 or 8/25? Or 9/22? Does that work for anyone?

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
8/18 I'm @ the NE Div Road Rally in Cromwell, CT
    8/25 I'm upstate, Auto-x @ Rome, NY

    9/22 I'm upstate, Auto-x @ Albany, NY

If you want to go on 9/22 though I can send you maps and what not from my pre-run on 9/8 or 9/9

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Nah, I'll keep trying to reschedule Sesame Place. Elmo's not going anywhere.
